On Sunday, the internet was treated to what would become its new obsession, the trailer for Godzilla Vs. Kong starring Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and, of course, King Kong and Godzilla. Did you get a chance to check it out? Here it is:
Obviously, there is just so much to love here. I don’t watch many monster films, but I did watch Kong: Skull Island, because Tom Hiddleston can get me to watch just about anything. Above and beyond my Tom love, I really liked the film, so I appreciate that Kong looks to be a continuation of the complex character they introduced us to in that. I did not see Godzilla: King of the Monsters but reading a few articles is making me think maybe I should prior to seeing this film. The Godzilla vs Kong rivalry is almost as famous as the Giants vs. Dodgers (sorry, West Coast native). The lore has cropped up in mythology from cinema to comic books to cartoons. And I love when someone says, “Look, I want to take a giant lizard, and a giant ape, have them fight – probably in the ocean so we can blow up a boat – and I want it taken as serious as Shakespeare, okay?” and the response they get is, “Sure. But I’d like to add lasers.” That’s a good time right there.
Above the cast taking this dead seriously, this trailer just plain rocks! Godzilla is clearly a bad@$$. That first punch from Kong had me on my feet, not to mention when he throws Godzilla’s laser breath back down his throat! And then there’s the ominous question of, “Godzilla’s out there hurting people, what we don’t know is why?” why Zills? What’s wrong, boo – who hurt you? And then the whole mythical giant monster war. They showed us the players in the post credit scene of Skull Island, will we get to see them all in Kong Vs. Zills? This movie did not come to play. It has t a great cast, it has a ton of stuff getting blown up – in the ocean, in the air, on land. It has mythical wars with dinosaurs and dragon-like creatures and little girls taming beasts in luscious, verdant surroundings. Once Skarsgård takes off his shirt, it will collect all the medals.
As for the other questions you didn’t know you had, don’t worry, sleuths are already on it. Like the fact that Kong grew over 200 feet between Skull Island and I assume Tokyo. Turns out, he was just a teen in Skull Island and hit a growth spurt. And I guess the movie will fill in the time gap between Skull Island and when this film picks up. And how he ended up chained to that ship. So much to know. Here’s my concern: I fell madly in love with Kong after Skull Island (sorry Tom, we had a good run). If I go back and watch Godzilla: King of the Monsters, am I going to grow an affection for Zills? Will I become tortured watching my boys duke it out in the Pacific as those other idiots sit back and watch? I don’t know if I can handle double monster love.
Godzilla vs. Kong streams on HBO Max starting March 26, which just happens to be my son’s birthday. Who said 16 was too old for theme parties?

This was the entirety of what I was going to say in my post, lol. I haven’t seen the new Godzilla, though, so not sure if I’ll be checking this out or not. My interest kinda started and ended with Tom.
Was it worth it? Not even Tom Hiddleston was enough to get me to watch Kong: Skull Island, but if people who wouldn’t otherwise watch liked it, maybe I should give it a shot.
Personally, I really liked it! It was an interesting take on the monster movie. I’ve watched it more than once.
I really enjoyed Kong: Skull Island! Brie Larson is also in it playing the Jessica Lange role but she’s much more competent and scrappy. At the very least, it’s mindless entertainment for two hours.

I saw the new Godzilla, ironically while flying home from Tokyo in 2019, and I can’t really remember much about it other than someone obviously had a huge budget to spend on monster special effects. Like practically everyone showed up at one point – Rodan, Mothra, etc – except for Kong. I remember liking Kong: Skull Island way more than G:KOM, for what it’s worth.
Is this a sequel? I was wondering why Hiddles isn’t in it? I am very confused. I would always choose Skarsgard over Hiddleston, I’m not complaining, just curious. Did they write his character out or is this a recast?
Kong: Skull Island took place in the 70s, so present-day movies won’t include anyone from that movie. At least not the same actors.

So wonderfully bad, which is the tradition for King Kong & Godzilla movies. Try watching Godzville vs. Mothra, just try it.
Lol, actually I do prefer the old school originals.. but these updated ones, trying to be cool with hip music just isn’t doing it for me.
With the huge budget that’s the best CGI they could afford? Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” had amazing CGI, the second Godzilla was just crap, you couldn’t properly see the monsters! WB needs to spend more money to fiz this crap. Pass.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters Is bad, like difficult to finish watching on a plane bad. It was entertaining though, but they definitely didn’t Make Godzilla sympathetic or misunderstood, he’s just a giant monster.
I hate myself for this, but I can’t not comment about the aside about the Giants vs. Dodgers rivalry being a West Coast thing. Their rivalry began when they were both NY teams. One of the reasons the Giants moved to California was to keep their rivalry going when the Dodgers moved to LA (the Giants were moving anyway, but not necessarily to California).
I couldn’t care less about the monsters, but Skarsgard is yummy, so I’m in.

Same here, I’ll watch pretty much anything he’s in. He’s hot, plus a very good actor who chooses interesting roles.
I sat through many, many monster movies growing up because my brother loved them (and still does) and in my head it’s all still a guy stomping around in a rubber suit, LOL.
If you havent watched any of the originals or aren’t a fan of course it’s going to seem hokey. That’s the whole point-thats the style of it. These classic monster movie remakes give good glimpses of the monsters which is good because CGI gets dated easily. Cant wait to see this!
This looks bad, but I hope it does well for Skarsgard’s sake. He needs a win, and we need more of him. Also, I’m sure Gaetz would be out there accusing Godzilla of being Antifa, and Congress couldn’t reach a consensus on whether this is bad or not. That’s just the new reality. I’m

All I’m saying is that no monsters better have been harmed in the making of this movie. I am so down for this!

When I was really young, I regularly went to my local cinema to see the latest Japanese Godzilla movie, I loved them and pretended that it wasn’t a man in a rubber suit but the real thing.
I’ve still got a soft spot for Godzilla and probably always will have. I also enjoyed the American Godzilla film from 1998 at the time, but the version from 2014 didn’t really do it for me, so I haven’t seen the sequel. This trailer surprisingly doesn’t really blow me away, but I like seeing these two, so I would definitely watch the movie if I had HBO Max.
Team Godzilla here 🤓 he’s bad but it’s not his fault and all will be revealed 😉 I’ve seen just about every Godzilla movie ever made but I do like Kong so I don’t want either of them to bite the dust. These are two icons and I am sure there’s a third party involved. My bet is on Mega Godzilla. Although based on the teaser from king of monsters we might see some version of monster zero.
