Are you into centaurs? Introduce yourself to Adam Driver’s Burberry campaign.

adam driver burberry ad

Here is the Adam Driver discourse some of you asked for. While I find Adam Driver attractive, I can go months without thinking about him or writing about him. But I like that too – he’s never in-your-face about anything. Which makes it special that he agreed to be the face of a new cologne: Burberry Hero. The ad campaign was shot by Mario Sorrenti, who seemed to be enchanted by Adam’s completely ripped torso. For the commercial, all they had to do was make Adam stand in front of the camera shirtless while he dabbed some cologne onto his naked torso. That’s all it would have taken. Instead, we got this:

Don’t you understand? The man was a horse the whole time. You can be a horse too, if you spritz on some Burberry Hero. Burberry Hero: A Horse Is A Horse Of Course. Honestly though, do you think they first pitch for the cologne name was “Burberry: CENTAUR”? Clearly, the man was always a horse but if you are a man and you wear Burberry Hero, you become a centaur. My guess is Marc Jacobs already trademarked a cologne name of “Horse C–k.”

Of course, perhaps this is some high-level trolling? Adam Driver is attractive to me, but I acknowledge that he is unconventional-looking, perhaps even a little bit equine in his features. Were they making a joke? Or are they really trying to appeal to people with centaur fetishes? Deep sigh.

  1. Darla says:

No I’m not into them and I find the thought gross, and I think you really nailed it with the horse c*ck thing. I can see it appealing to men. It makes me want to cross my legs though.

    • Tom says:

      A “Zoolander” outtake.

    • BooyahB!itches says:

Forget the ad, why aren’t you all outraged at the EAR STABBING we were exposed to by that PATHETIC panting/whining noise they’re passing off as “singing”?!?!??!?

      TURN IT OFF!!!

  2. damejudi says:

    That is profoundly disturbing.

It looks like one of the SNL parody commercials at best.

    • Lucy2 says:

It really does, I can’t imagine who thought this was a good idea. I expect a lot of parodies of it soon!

      • Lightpurple says:

I expect John Oliver to lose his mind over it.

      • ClaireB says:

Driver was such a good sport about John Oliver’s weird bit that I wonder if he partially agreed to this insanity just to mess with Oliver.

    • D says:

I said the same thing, total SNL skit. If they had just kept it to him running on the beach it would have been fine. It goes on sooooo long and then it’s just such a weird end that makes no sense.

      • ElleV says:

see, I think it would have made sense if this AT ALL reflected the scent of the perfume – for example, leather and salt notes with maybe something feminine mixed in

BUT NO! it’s a spicy bergamot and cedar perfume??? WHY WASN’T HE A FOREST CENTAUR THEN? WHY DIDN’T THEY CAST JASON MOMOA TO EVOKE SPICY???

make a perfume ad as insane as you like but so help me god this is FALSE ADVERTISING

  3. D says:

Did they show him the concept before shooting because I can’t believe he agreed to this. And I find him super attractive but it’s like an SNL parody.

  4. Jillian says:

Really, it seems like a joke! I know that isn’t the intent (or is it?), it’s just so bonkers. WOW, also no thank you. Geez. Too early for this mess.

  5. Louisa says:

    Wow. That is…… something.

  6. Queen Meghan's Hand says:

    Wait…

    Hold up…

    I…
    Um…
    Like an actual centaur…?

  7. Lizzie says:

Maybe my calendar is wrong and it’s actually April Fools Day? That is the only explanation that comes to mind.

  8. Becks1 says:

This is so weird that the only thing i can think is that its meant as a total joke and to get people like us talking about the ad. Like I just watched the ad on youtube, I don’t usually watch Burberry ads on youtube and we don’t usually talk about them here – but for this one we are. Right? It’s just about getting attention? It’s not meant to be serious or legitimate? Please tell me that I’m right lol.

    • Lightpurple says:

The only thing I can think of is how John Oliver is going to react to this and how he’ll work it into the next episode of Last Week Tonight.

      • Becks1 says:

I feel like he’s going to be a centaur himself LOL.

      • Jane Wilson says:

Absolutely! This has John Oliver’s ongoing worship of Adam’s manly vibe written all over it. I don’t think it’s a troll, so much as a tribute with a smile.

      • cassandra says:

If John Oliver doesn’t bring this up I will riot

Edited to add: It’s already on the show’s twitter.

      • milliemollie says:

I’m just going with John Oliver is behind the whole thing. Anything else is too disturbing

      • Splinter says:

That was my first thought – this ad was made solely for John Oliver

      • smcollins says:

OMG yes! JO is going to have a field day with this and I. Can’t. Wait. It’s going to be glorious and I’m so here for it. But, really….call me crazy but I find the ad kind of hot. AD is so sexy weird and this ad suits his sexy weirdness so well.

      • Liz version 700 says:

John Oliver’s reaction will be epic lol

      • ElleV says:

@smcollins – both my sister and I find AD hot and I find it interesting how incredibly divisive that is – like people are either ALL in or ALL out

based on a random sample of my girlfriends tho, I have concluded that finding Adam Driver hot is strongly correlated with anxious attachment and possibly daddy/bad boy issues – your mileage may vary but it CRACKED us up and i am convinced it could be a diagnostic tool

like does a fraught, hot-and-cold romance with a tortured musician whose heart only you can heal appeal to you? are you embarassingly team Edward? i present adam driver for your consideration

tldr: John Oliver has daddy issues

  9. Katherine says:

    Wow, this looks very good

    • Kelly says:

I liked it too. At least it’s creative rather than yet another David Gandy or other pretty boy staring into space while their oiled by a waif with big lips.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Seems derivative of that insurance company ad campaign that hybridizes a hot guy and a motorcycle, a cycletaur, if you will.

      • North of Boston says:

Yeah that was what I thought of when I saw this. Which I don’t think was what Burberry was trying to evoke.

Then again if I try to ignore the Geico ads that leaves me with zero idea what Burberry was trying to evoke, much like the perfume ads that have a woman with billowing clothing looking troubled while running through a crowd of people or falling from great heights through glass, or even fashion shows where all the models are wearing expressions that scream “why are there tacks sticking up on the inside of my horribly fitted shoes? Why?!!!!”

And all I am left with is “I don’t think I’m the target audience for this ad … and I hope and pray I am never forced to spend large swathes of time with the people who are “

  10. ItReallyIsYou,NotMe k8 says:

I like Adam Driver a lot, but this is a cheesefest. But no man that would buy this cologne would ever get how cheesy this is, so it will probably sell well.

    • Sigmund says:

I 100% think the ad is targeting women to buy the cologne for their significant other.

      • ElleV says:

agree – this is for gag gifts and people who find adam driver hot and no one else

  11. girl_ninja says:

Lolololol! Arod is gonna be jealous. Doesn’t he have a whole painting of him as a Centaur?

    He stays loosing 🤣🤣

  12. Digital Unicorn says:

He looks hot in the ad – that is all i have to say. Burberry must have waved a lot of money at him to do this ad.

  13. stephka says:

Maybe the cologne smells like wet horse.

  14. Nev says:

    HOT.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Hot hot, like Javier Bardem. Or that cradle robbing French guy, Vincent Cassell. Yum!

  15. Sigmund says:

This commercial cracks me up. It’s so ridiculous and over the top. That being said, the man is 🔥 and I’ll likely buy the cologne for my husband, so I guess it worked.

  16. Hillbo Baggins says:

ARod over here wondering why he didn’t capitalize on the centaur fetish first

  17. SarahCS says:

I don’t know what it is about him/his look but I saw the headline and thought ‘yep, I could see that’.

  18. WithTheAmerican says:

Why is he pulling the horses hair so hard his skin is pulling up?

    • fluffy_bunny says:

He likely didn’t want to fall off. You can see the horse’s head and it doesn’t look like there is anyone controlling it. The horse doesn’t mind.

  19. BW says:

    ARTAX NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  20. Venus says:

Horses and centuars don’t wear pants, so why is he?

  21. Maria says:

I think I must be the only person in the world who doesn’t find him appealing at all, lol.
That said, the ad is not as over the top as I was expecting. It’s just a random silhouette at the end after some weird montage. I thought it was going to be full-blown Animorphs LOL

  22. Christine says:

    What

  23. Meredith says:

I saw a headline about the ad yesterday and, not realizing it’s for Burberry, I assumed it was a funny Doritos or Old Spice ad or a complete joke.

I finally watched it. So he and the horse become one? That ad is awful but I still love him.

  24. thaisajs says:

I’m 100 percent here for this. We haven’t had enough naked Adam Driver shots for TOO LONG. Even if he’s cavorting with a horse in a cheesy cologne ad. I geniunely don’t understand why he agreed to this video concept but I do appreciate that when he commits to something, he’s all there. No irony. He’s acting like he’s shooting a Scorcese movie or something.

  25. Merricat says:

I think Adam Driver has a sense of humor. Lol.

    • AmyB says:

Oh he definitely does – have you seen him on SNL??? He is sooooo FUNNY!!! I just love him haha! Loved him as Kylo Ren and it just grew from there

    • Deering24 says:

How he shot this and kept a straight face, I don’t know…🤣

  26. Pamspam says:

I mean…I enjoyed the FKA Twigs song. That’s all I got.

  27. Case says:

I feel like they definitely knew what they were doing my making this so ridiculous. I mean, they HAD to know, I hope? It blew up on social media, it will spawn memes, it will be parodied, John Oliver will lose his mind over it, but hey, you’re talking about the scent, lol.

As for his looks: I was introduced to him through Star Wars. I thought he was the weirdest, most unattractive person I’d ever seen. But then I saw him in interviews, and then I sought out more and more interviews (lol) and I can very easily say now that I’m extremely attracted to him. His personality kinda takes over his face and he becomes hot. He’s very literally the only actor I’ve ever genuinely enjoyed hearing speak for extended periods and not feeling any sense of cringe or performativeness. TL;DR Love me some Centaur Adam.

  28. Lizzie Bathory says:

Hahaha. I love it. Frangrance ads are usually bonkers, just more commonly things like Keira Knightly waking up in a trashed apartment & running into the street in a Chanel gown. Or Natalie Portman running away from her own wedding, taking off her wedding dress in a field to reveal a little black dress & getting picked up from the edge of a cliff by her paramour in a helicopter (yes, that’s an ad).

This is crazy in a different way. And it got people talking, so I think Burberry’s happy.

  29. SusanRagain says:

Adam Driver is hot. Ripped and the dark hair looks great.
    This commercial is lousy.
Almost as bad as Depp in his Savage cologne ads, in which he is grubby looking and posing so hard his face might fall off.
I hope Adam Driver made a truckload of money to agree to this schlock.
It does look like Zoolander. lol

    • cantdoattitude says:

i think the difference is (at least to me) that depp was completely serious about his and how he probably thought it was a great homage to his bad boy image, but seeing driver in other things and interviews, i think he very much was in on the joke for this. as someone said above, all perfume/cologne ads are bonkers. this actually makes as much sense as anything else.

    • fluffy_bunny says:

Is that the one where Depp digs hole in the desert for some unknown reason?

  30. Gina says:

I like this ad. Adam Driver looks hot, water is amazing and horse looks good. Very masculine add. Not in a cheesy way, IMO.

    • Dierski says:

Agree, Gina – Adam Driver is apparently the centaur I never knew I needed…

I really want to hate this whole thing, because it is kind of insane and bizarre… but I don’t.
TIL that for me, AD really can do no wrong. 😂😂😂 Good for him for getting PAID.

  31. Elbal says:

This is a beautiful ad. Love it! This analysis is extremely basic, perhaps you can accept that artistic imagination is actually allowed? This blog is becoming increasingly judgmental and uneducated, and I am not here for it.

    • Driver8 says:

Eh, my life sucks right now, so this blog is a welcome reprieve from my stress. I love the ad too. Adam Driver is super sexy and so yummy 😋

  32. supersoft says:

Well. Cocaine is a helluva drug. I can not by the life of me extract another explanation out of this. This is one of the weirdest perfume ads, or ads in general, i have ever seen. And i do not know many gay men but i guess they are not into horses in general?

  33. Bettyrose says:

The ad itself is hilarious but the stills from the ad, like the ones in this post, are smoldering. Well hello there horse c*ck Adam. 😍

  34. Size Does Matter says:

I think Adam Driver is hot but horses … do not smell good.

  35. Elo says:

    Something something…
    Joke about riding Adam Driver
    Something something.

I actually like the ad. It’s beautifully shot and creative.

  36. MsIam says:

Its better than the Brady “Look at me!” ad. But it doesn’t make me want to buy the fragrance either so….

  37. Marigold says:

I’m here for all the weirdness! Let the parodies begin.

  38. Ersatz says:

That was literally the plot of a Don’t Trust the B. in apt 23 episode. I miss that show so much…

  39. Twin falls says:

Haha! I love it. Only Adam Driver could get away with this and be hotter for it.

    • Bettyrose says:

IKR? He’s hot in such an unusual way. He was military and has the bod to show for it, but he’s also like a total emo geek boy that appeals to our inner adolescent. I’d hit it no question but would also be weirdly confused if I’m into his bod or his poetry.

  40. Barbie1 says:

Oh my lol. Anything for a paycheck.

  41. Kc says:

    Ummm….
I think this ad should be called “how to seduce a horse” and I’m not sure that’s the vibe they were going for. The music combined with the lighting was definitely a mood. Not a mood that encourages me to buy Burberry for sure.

Adam driver looks great. I have no doubt he could seduce a horse.

  42. L4frimaire says:

I like the ad. The music and the visuals are good. Not a big Driver fan but he has a quirky handsomeness and ripped body. Who knew centaurs would be a thing but those who like the classical world know they have sex appeal. Anyway, everyone is talking about it so they got the job done. Now I need a sample of this scent.

  43. Sue M says:

This ad is truly ridiculous. What kind of man would ever be persuaded to buy the fragrance based on this?

    • fluffy_bunny says:

Do guys buy their own cologne? My husband doesn’t wear any because I’m allergic but I buy his deodorant and buy what I think sounds good. He has one that he swears must be what Ron Swanson wears.

  44. DCLite says:

Why can’t I stop laughing at how bored the voiceover guy sounds…..did he not just witness what we just witnessed?!!!

    • Boxy Lady says:

See, I thought the voiceover was Adam Driver. I’m probably wrong though. Although that would explain the flatness in his voice like, “What the hell did I just film?!” lol

    • JanetDR says:

It sounds like Adam to me. that voice is one of the reason I loooooove him!

  45. Muffin says:

They did great! The internet is loudly discussing this, and it’s Burberry! That is an old brand, that has seen it’s customer group steadily aging. Now look at this (estetically pleasing) craziness, talk about standing out from the crowd. Bonus points for creativity (perfume ads are…well, often “yawn”), and for, possibly, poking a bit of fun of a lancome campaign a little while back. -chefs kiss!

  46. K says:

Why wasn’t he holding his lightsaber? That would have been awesome

  47. Anna says:

    I love it. Super hot.

  48. CROOKSNNANNIES says:

Do we know for sure he saw the final edit? Idk how it works but I think it would be hilarious if he signed off on the first part and did not realize a shadowy centaur would be included. Honestly, the silhouette is similar but we don’t even know if it’s him.

  49. LeaTheFrench says:

Ha ha, that ad makes zero sense, it’s hilarious. Who would turn to a horse – of all things – for inspiration for a scent 😂? Have the people who shot this ever stood next to an actual horse? 😅 The smell is pretty…overpowering 🤣

  50. Marigold says:

    Merman. MERMAN!!!

  51. Mcmmom says:

WHAT was that??! He is a horse? He becomes a horse? The water is magic and it turns him into a horse? It’s an evolution and his head will become horse-like next?

    This is so weird.

He’s got a good body, but I think he’s odd looking. The horse-torso doesn’t help.

  52. DC Gal says:

I never found him attractive or got the appeal and this . . . does not help.

  53. SNF says:

Someone send this to Jenny Nicholson

  54. Cellmate says:

He is an amazing actor and seems like a great guy but he has some absolute shitty fans. I feel sorry for him since he and his wife have crazy stalkers who sent death threats to his wife and child, wishing that they both die in childbirth just because they want him to divorce her.
They tried to keep their child a secret but people stole private pictures and send them to tabloids.

They got doxxed and people showed up on their doorstep and sent them explicit fan art and other stuff. He even spoke out abut the harassment his wife faced in an interview, really disturbing.

  55. Margo says:

OMG! I AM STILL LAUGHING. I love Adam Driver – he is a fine actor and a very sexy dude, but this ad is just too much. Running and swimming with a horse? And the background music! I think this is going to be my go-to viewing when I need to have a laugh. I’m a little shocked that he agreed to do this – seems out of character, but the payday must have been sweet. And I bet this ad gets more play in Europe and Asia than in the US. I think I’ll watch it again to keep my giggle going!

  56. Drew says:

This is a no for me. In my opinion is he not attractive or handsome. These fragrance ads just need to do better.

  57. Grant says:

That commercial was way sexier than I anticipated. Today I learned I have a centaur fetish.

  58. detritus says:

I’m not a complicated gal, so I’m here for it.

  59. Dss says:

    Ok that was stupid

  60. Brasileira says:

How strange is it that I actually foung it interestingly strangelly… hot? It’s disturbingly exciting. I was breathless. Completelly forgot what it was supposed to be about.

  61. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Hey, (I mean hay), it’s a scent ad. Animal masculinity, salty ocean spray, strength, endurance and passion rolled in nori. Better than McConaughey fer sure y’all. 😁

  62. Dee Kay says:

omg that ad is hilarious. thx Burberry!!!!

  63. Bendy Windy says:

    I like it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

    • Thirtynine says:

I don’t know anything about Adam Driver or fragrance ads in general, but when I watched this my first thoughts were ‘what a nice horse’ and ‘he doesn’t look comfortable running like that’. That’s it.

      I don’t think I’m their target market.

  64. Ange says:

Weirdness abounds lol. Also I can’t get around how he runs, if anything required some artsy slo mo that part was probably it.

  65. MaryBeary says:

This is the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a long time. And I work for an advertising company so I’ve seen some really stupid shit.

  66. Sarah says:

The commercial is dumb but this is the FIRST time that I have ever though that Adam looked good.

  67. You Know Me says:

Nope. No ma’am. Picasso did his face. I don’t understand why he’s meant to be hot. Yeesh

  68. elle says:

He has murder face when he comes up behind the horse – I was expecting to see the horse head wash up on the beach or something. Hard pass.

  69. Lotta says:

I think the whole video is so sexy that I dont care if it makes sense or not.

  70. North of Boston says:

Someone elsewhere posted a comment like “hey it’s Kylo Ren-taur!” Which cracked me up

  71. K says:

I mean, underwater horse swimming is kind of interesting to see, and he’s got a nice physique, obviously, but no, I don’t really find him attractive. I feel like I’m always getting the message that I SHOULD find him attractive, but something gets in the way. Maybe it’s his deep Kermit voice. He kind of creeps me out. So I can dig him playing a conflicted villain, but that’s kind of all I want from him.
