Is Mary-Louise Parker a cougar homewrecker?

90922x3_parker_b-gr_01

Last Friday, People posted what I considered a rather innocuous little “New Couple” piece about how 45-year-old single mother of two Mary-Louise Parker has started dating musician Charlie Mars, 35. I’m sure some people were like “Go get ‘em, Cougar!” but I didn’t really see the big deal. Sure, Charlie is a cute guy. But Mary-Louise is really cool, so she deserves all of the hot pieces she wants. I was actually more excited about the prospect that Mary-Louise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan had finally broken up for good – that man is fine, and it’s interesting to know he’s single. Cough cough I’m plotting cough.

TV’s hottest mom has a cute new boyfriend.

Mary-Louise Parker, 45, has been dating musician Charlie Mars, 35, since early June, sources tell PEOPLE. Parker and the Mississippi-born singer and songwriter were all but inseparable last weekend when the Emmy-nominated Weeds star was in Los Angles to attend the awards.

Before they started dating, the mother of two was a fan of the up-and-coming artist. Last year, she appeared in the video for “Listen to the Darkside,” the first single off his record Like a Bird, Like a Plane.

Parker had previously been linked with her one-time Weeds costar Jeffery Dean Morgan.

So, nice story, right? Mary-Louise has found a hot piece/love, and good for her. Not so fast! Defamer and the NYDN are questioning whether Mary-Louise “stole” Charlie from his girlfriend of three years, journalist Lindsey Brown, who works for WTOK, a local Mississippi station. The source of this “homewrecking” charge seems to have come from an e-mail sent to Defamer titled “Cougar Goes Too Far”. The e-mail references the whole Billy Crudup dumping MLP for Claire Danes thing, if you find that relevant. Here’s the e-mail:

Readers may find it interesting that actress Mary Louise Parker who was dumped late in her pregnancy five years ago went on to rip apart the three year relationship of her new boyfriend Charlie Mars and his then 25 year old Mississippi girlfriend.

Early June Mars was still in a relationship with news anchor Lindsey Brown who is a journalist in Meridian Mississippi. Mars and Brown met while Brown was finishing up college at the University of Mississippi. It was Brown who helped Mars move through his substance/drug abuse problems he has battled for the last decade.

You would think a woman who suffered so greatly at the hands of a man would work to make sure other women aren’t betrayed the same way…

[From E-mail sent to Defamer]

Uh… right. So, this e-mail was sent by Lindsey Brown, correct? And Lindsey comes off as a bit… crazy, yes? No, I won’t go there. We don’t know what happened. It’s totally possible that Mary-Louise isn’t as cool as I think she is, that she’s some prickly homewrecking cougar who goes out looking for young men that have already been “fixed” by other women. Or Mary-Louise could be so cool that when a “taken” guy meets her, he’s becomes all “Oh, I don’t have a girlfriend, no way. Your hair is pretty.” Or Charlie and Lindsey were already broken up when he began dating Mary-Louise. Whatever.

Here’s Mary Louise Parker making a quick dash to the security line at Los Angeles International Airport with Charlie Mars on September 21st. Images thanks to BauerGriffinOnline.

Hmm, me thinks it sounds like a woman who was dumped, trying to place the blame on someone else. Odd that the “source” isn’t named!

Years ago, MLP was with her baby daddy, Billy Crudup, who eventually left her late in her pregnancy when he was lured away by “the other woman”, Claire Danes. Now, it appears MLP has played the Claire Danes villain to some other unlucky woman. Just some important background info this story failed to mention.

I don’t think this qualifies as failing to mention it.

I find the situations dissimilar. Couple dating (Charlie & Lindsey) vs. couple building a family together (MLP & Crudup).

Whose home is she wrecking? A couple comprised of a 25 year old and a recovering musician/addict is hardly a “home” even if they cohabitated.

It sucks and Lindsey is rightfully hurt, but this is NOT homewrecking.

    Time to move on.

God, I hate the term cougar! It is stupid and so over used!

They don’t have that kind of name foe men. They just say that an older man with a much younger woman is “lucky”!

Maybe I will coin a new term for men. Is lecherous bastard too obvious?

I find people’s attitudes here rather callous. It’s sad that people see relationships as expendable. A 3 yr relationship still means something even if there isn’t a ring or a child. And, calling the ex bitter is really sad.

How come people see Jolie is considered a homewrecker, even though there weren’t kids and that relationship sounded like it was over? Aniston even said she didn’t know if Brad was her soulmate? You married someone you were unsure of? Why? People
who dislike Aniston portray her as bitter, while others defend her as the innocent one.

It seems to me a lot of people have very convenient double standards about Hollywood relationships. They pick some celebs to champion and some celebs to demonize based on tabloid depictions, rumors and their personal feelings.

As for me, I think most celebs are narcissists and they don’t care about other people that much. It’s all about their own immediate wishes and desires. These people become actors so they can be the center of attention and see their faces on-screen. They certainly aren’t people worth idolizing or feeling sorry for in the least.

“no ring + no kids =/= home”

    Exactly.

And Karen…it’s different with Jolie/Pitt because Pitt left a MARRIAGE for her. It IS different.

Girlfriends/Boyfriends have no reasonable expectation of commitment. They just don’t.

So…no ring, no kids…not a tragedy in my book.

There’s that word again; odd- she doesn’t look anything like a tan-colored North American breed of great cat. I recommend electroshock therapy for the trend-babies who think cougar is slang for something else.

Who knows what happened, but unless MLP drugged him and tied him up and locked him in a basement until he gave into her, No one can be stolen.

Why isn’t she trashing her former boyfriend, just as Pitt should have been held responsible for that mess.

It always seems to be the woman’s fault and it’s just wrong.

Right, Aspen–a commitment is a commitment in my book. I’ve been in a relationship for over 12 yrs, and some people I know were married for 7 months. So, their marriage is worth more than my relationship because they had a cheap Vegas wedding that obviously meant very little to them? What sorry standards people have.

If you make promises, you should keep them. If you can’t keep them, then you should be a decent human being and say so. I don’t believe in being unfaithful and dishonest like those Hollywood types. Obviously, that’s ok with the rest of you.

Aspen & karen – THANK YOU. I agree. “No ring or no kids =/= home” dismisses many women I know who are in extremely committed relationships, sans a wedding ceremony and sans children.

Three years sounds like a plenty long time to me, enough for me to say the couple had a homelife together.

No ring or no kids =/= home

100% agree. He had a girlfriend, not a wife. Apparently there are no kids involved, so it’s no big deal. Noncommitted dating couples break up all the time; dating does not imply a lifetime commitment. Neither does living together; that’s just playing house for most (but not all) couples.

  26. Praise St. Angie! says:

excuse me, but a piece of paper and a rugrat does not a commitment make.

so, basically, some of you are saying that a couple who has been together for 20 years but don’t have kids and aren’t married are NOT committed enough to have a “home”?

there are some seriously close-minded people on here.

  27. e says:

We have no idea how committed he and this Lindsay person were. Three years does not mean they were in a committed relationship and neither was the fact that she allegedly helped him get over drugs. I never even heard them associated with each other before now.

I have been in intense relationships that lasted a year and not very committed relationships that lasted three.

Maybe she thought they were more committed than they actually were? I am not saying I don’t feel sorry for her but I am not ready to rake MLP over the coals over this e-mail.

Is it just me, or does that boyfriend look a lot like Stephen Moyer? Should we reference his slightly messy romantic history here, too, just to complicate things further?

Let it be, people. Sure, his ex is upset, but she’s also coming across as a little nuts. This is not how reasonable people handle a break up, issuing emails to gossip sites.

@ Firestarter – LOL!! Yes, that’s obvious, but it works for me!

@ princess pea – No, you’re not the only one, that was the first thing I thought when I saw the pic of these two. Did she steal Stephen Moyer away from Anna Paquin? But alas, the dirt wasn’t that good.

Regarding the relationship issues discussed here, for me just speaking from a purely legal standpoint, marriage is a formal legal commitment with the expectation of fidelity. Living together is not. Period. And that’s not to say that I wouldn’t live with someone, I have. I just knew we weren’t married. There is a difference.

  31. Praise St. Angie! says:

    sorry, Tia C, I disagree.

the only thing that’s different there is that there is a “formal LEGAL commitment”…however, who’s to say that living together for 20 years (with no piece of paper making it LEGAL) is any less of a commitment than a couple that’s been married for a year?

I’d say there’s an expectation of fidelity in that case, too.

(note: I’m not talking about the MLP case here, just in general.)
