Production has been temporary stopped on super-corny comedy “Cougar Town,” with ABC issuing a statement that star Courteney Cox needs time to deal with a “private family matter.” It all sounds so mysterious, and let’s hope that everything is ok for Cox, her husband David Arquette and their five year-old daughter, Coco.
Production on Cougar Town has been suspended for now while star Courteney Cox attends to a family matter.
Neither reps for Arquette, 45, nor the show disclosed what the issue was.
In a statement, an ABC rep says: “We can confirm production on Cougar Town has been temporarily shut down in order for Courteney to deal with a private family matter.”

There’s a lot of divorce speculation, and some are wondering if Cox is adopting or if she could be pregnant. It could really be anything, and I know I’ve used the “family matter” excuse when I wanted to get out of work for whatever reason. A couple of weeks ago, the National Enquirer reported that Courtney was very domineering and rude to crew on the set of “Cougar Town” and that she’d earned the nickname “mother hen” from fed up staff. She is also said to regularly demand last-minute script changes in order to present her character in the best light. Maybe she’s having some kind of conflict with producers and that’s why she’s stopped working.
The show is doing well in the ratings and has been picked up for another full season. I’m not a fan and had to switch it off midway into the second episode. I just don’t find it funny and seems like they’re trying way too hard. Sadly, ABC canceled one of my favorite new shows, “Eastwick,” while ordering another season of this mess. It’s making plenty of money for them so unless Cox doesn’t come back for whatever reason it will probably be on for a while.

I have to say, I really do like this show! Its sooo silly, and I am a huge fan of Cox. She can do no wrong in my eyes.

Eastwick is cancelled?????? Noooooo! Yeah, it was kind of bad, but I actually liked it! If they had just gotten rid of Lindsay Price’s character, that would have been all they needed to up the ratings! Her character annoyed the hell out of me!
I have never seen Cougar Town, so I cannot say whether I like it or not.
As for divorce rumors, that would surprise me.

Like her, hate her show. Watched a few min. of it this week…its Monica, only more annoying. Still want to see how she is on Dirt. (someday)

Problems with the producers? She is the producer. I’m also not buying the rude to crew rumor at all. A decade of Friends and not a word about her being rude and now all of a sudden she’s Christian Bale? Don’t think so.

I really like Cougar Town, I think it’s fun and silly and I love that it’s paired with my favorite new show, Modern Family (but couldn’t they give these shows better names?)
And I actually think its funny that you disliked Cougar Town so much while you loved Eastwick, because I had the total opposite reaction, right down to switching in the middle of the second episode! Eastwick was atrocious to me, I couldn’t get through it.

Couldn’t agree more, Celebitchy. That was exactly my experience in trying to watch “Cougar Town.” They are trying WAAAY too hard, Cox especially, with her overinflated, ridiculous lips. Of course they always cancel the good shows and keep the stupid ones around.

RobN, it could be that the pressure of trying to both act in and produce a show that’s not yet a smash hit has brought out more negative, stress-related behaviors in her than working with a dream cast and dream writers on a huge hit like “Friends” would.

I would hope its not divorce- seems way too selfish to put the shows entire crew out of work for a divorce. can’t see Ms. Cox doing that. Unfortunately, now that I say that it makes me worry that its something huge… I really hope all is well in the cox-arquette household.

There has been speculation lately that she is pregnant, it is heartbreaking enough if she lost a baby without having to face co-workers or the public. Maybe since they can afford it, surrogacy?
