Last night, glitterati flocked to Marrakesh, Morocco for the opening of a Chopard boutique at the La Mamounia Hotel. They got some huge names for the opening: Gwyneth Paltrow, Salma Hayek, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Jennifer Aniston, and Juliette Binoche were all in attendance. I guess no one celebrates Thanksgiving anymore? Also, note this: Orlando and Aniston flew in on the same plane, and there was some minor gossip that the two of them were hooking up. Orlando made sure to pose with his girlfriend Miranda Kerr the whole night, and Jennifer Aniston was solo. Aniston wore a black halter dress with a slit up the back. She favors the halter dresses quite a bit:
Salma Hayek wore black too - her dress was a one-shoulder gown that I find pretty boring. That pin ages her too - it makes her seem like a lady who is all about scarves and gaudy pins:
Most people are declaring Gwyneth the fashion victor - which I kind of agree with. Her dress is very pretty, but it does wash her out a bit. Gwyneth attended the event without husband Chris Martin, and it happened to be the anniversary of her father Bruce’s death, which she memorialized in this week’s GOOP newsletter. I do hate Gwyneth’s hair like this - I hate the style, and I don’t think it does anything for her.
My other favorite from the event was Juliette Binoche. She wore a really pretty red dress to the event. I could do without the added little puff of fabric at her neck, but it still works. I think she looks amazing, and totally ageless. Damn French women! No, seriously, how much would kill to look like this at the age of 45? She manages to be both cute and beautiful.
Sigh… I love her. I need to watch The English Patient again. She’s one of my favorites of all time, quite honestly. She always comes across as such a sweetheart too, never snooty. It’s a shame people will only to be talking about Gwyneth and Aniston and Orly from this event.

OMGoodness.. are they all doing paid appearances now.. Boy for Jen I think that Friends money has run out.. Orlando and Gwenny both seem to be in a slump.. not counting Iron Man Gwenny has had nothing much going on.. Well money is money.. Welcome to the land of Paris Hilton

Aniston and Bloom share the same agent hence why they were together on the plane and rode together. The press is just creating garbage.

Juliette in the film Chocolat was so lovable.
Aniston’s style is so bland. I get her love of classic styles but there are some beautiful colors out there and yet it seems like she always chooses black. She should take a fashion risk one day… it’s not like it will make or break her stardom. I think she would look gorgeous in a dark, rich emerald color.

I love juliette binoche too, beautiful and truly talented without taking herself too seriously. We don’t really see that with American actresses.

Considering Selma is married to a billionaire, Gwennie has money from her modeling and acting roles, she’s also married to a successful musician so forgive me for thinking they don’t need to be paid, but I think the gift bags must be awesome..I don’t think too many of the folks who attended this event could be considered financially strapped.

I am kind of curious and jealous at the same time, curious because aside from miranda kerr, who is a model and they make these kinds of appearances, i am surprised that these acting people, high profile ones at that, are at the opening of a hotel..maybe they are very good friends with the owner or something..jealous because morroco is a dream destination for me, but i am kinda poor even though i am closer, geopraphically speaking to morroco than they are…well, t’is life

And regarding the others there. Yeah none are “broke” but none are burning up the box office either. This kind of event is one as I said you would find a Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and such. So I stand by my comments. I agree with one of the posters. this does sound cheesy and something that is done just for the cash. Now why does Jen who you said makes lots of movies. needs to do this kind of gig

Juliette looks like Audrey Hepburn at the same age. The dress is VERY Audrey. Goopy’s dress looks like she’s going to the prom (*gag*) in icky pale salmon polyester. Jen is in her generic look, but Salma, now that she’s married to a billionaire, looks matronly. Winner? Binoche!

Her hair is pretty as ever, but jeebus that dress is boggin’! It makes her look hefty as well as it’s other crimes.Salma’s dress is fine. I’m assuming she’s wearing the jewel because it’s a Chopard shindig. But it would be much betterif it wasn’t a garnet (or the largest ruby known to science) and was all diamond or perhaps sapphire. Her hair and makeup is quite unflattering, which is very unusual for her.

And oh how much do I <3 Juliette Binoche. I really like the dress, the ruffle at the neck adds a bit of interest.

I love Paltrow’s dress but that color does make her look washed out. I’d like to see her wearing dark green or maybe a deep purple.
Hayek’s dress is very flattering. But that orange eyeshadow gotta go. WTF was she thinking?

There is nothing wrong with the color of Gwyneth’s dress ya’ll. If you look at her skin, she has similar tones. This dress is just a darker shade of her peachie skin tones and that means it is a good color on her. She is just pale because our Gwynnie is pale, not because the dress is washing her out.

Orlando and Juliet were the winners here, both look gorgeous. The rest - very meh, especially Jennifer Aniston, she does not look good there at all. Yuck.

Beth, Morocco is not in the “middle east.” It is in North Africa, just a short boat ride from Spain.
And, Kaiser, why would any of these stars be celebrating Thanksgiving? The only American pictured is Jen Aniston (Gwynnie lives in London). Why would Thanksgiving weekend mean anything to them?
As to why these stars are at an opening . . . remember the story a week ago about Brad Pitt turning down $5M to be at a hotel opening in Abu Dhabi? Well, these stars were probably paid, at least, a million (or more)each, along with first class air fare and 5 star hotel and other expenses, to appear at this opening. Look at all the publicity Chopard is getting. It’s worth what they have to pay these people to attend.

I think Gwyneth looks healthy, and rather beautiful.

@ jessica: Read Lisa’s comment before talking. She didn’t say Aniston’s money had run out, she said the Friends money had run out. She’s quite right. This is the last year Aniston will be receiving residuals from Friends. You’re right that she was the second highest grossing actress last year, but at least half of her gross came from Friends residuals so her income next year could take a significant cut.

This is a rather odd group of pay-to-appear celebs. None of them seem the type to usually do that sort of thing, but who knows.
I actually like Goopy’s dress, except for the sleeve part. But yeah, her hair always looks so blah.
I saw better pictures of Jen, and the dress was nice. I like her classic style, but for someone who is photographed so often, I do wish she’d add some oomph to it.

For a PARTY? Do they need the CASH that bad? Or, is it the FAME? They all seem so greedy and self-absorbed. I don’t like any of them at all–just my opinion.

@karen. The non-Americans don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. Duh! But, Gwyneth and Aniston are Americans, so it’s sad that they don’t want to be with their families for the holidays. They’d rather get paid, and hob-nob with the rich/famous. No wonder both ice princesses have had troubled relationships. These pics say it all.

Chopard is a high-end jewelery and watch maker, which they probably all wear. They weren’t there for the opening of a hotel. I’d prolly take a free trip to Marrakesh if offered the chance.

Miranda Kerr reminds me of a ferret, which is a cute animal, but it’s not the best look for the face of a human being. Orlando deserves something better. A girl with some meat on her bones, probably.
Juliette is fantastic, a very beautiful woman (I had the privilege to see her in person once. She’s very pale and delicate. A doll) and great actress. But I don’t like that dress very much.
Gwyneth looks drop dead gorgeous. Too bad she’s such a pompous ass. I wonder how many groupies her whiny husband must be banging while she spends so much time away.

@Karen - not everyone thinks Thanksgiving is the be all, end all family get together moment. Aniston’s mom and dad are divorced, she has a tenuous at best relationship with her mom and her dad is Greek. So maybe they don’t do Thanksgiving.
I don’t know if I’m alone here, but I HATE those stupid one shoulder dresses. It’s been what, two years since people started wearing the whole goddess-inspired look and it sure would be nice to see some symmetrical fashions again.
The really Grecian ones, with no sleeves, I can live with. But this one gigantic sleeve look is getting silly.
And yeah, for heaven’s sake Jennifer, pick something other than black or gold. Color can be your friend!

You can’t see it in these photos but a closeup of Aniston revealed heavy breakage on the top of her head. I was shocked since she always obsesses over her hair. Looks like breakage from hair extensions.

I have noticed in the last two months that Jennifer has gained weight on her “famous figure”. She looks heavy in this dress, because she is heavier. She needs to hit the gym asap, she isn’t pretty enough to get away with a few extra pounds. Gwen needs to do a section on Goop about when to get your “roots touched up”. Considering Salma is married to a billionaire that dress looks awfully cheap and doesn’t look like a couture gown.

TwinkleToes: Hair extensions + coloring + blow-drying = trouble. Aniston is a natural brunette who has been dying her hair blonde for over ten years now. It’s bound to cause some weakness and breakage. Blow-drying can stress out the hair and cause breakage if it’s done week after week. Add hair extensions to the mix and you’ve got a hellacious mess to deal with.
A lot of places attach the extensions too tightly to the hair. One of my co-workers had extensions and they pulled out all the hair all around her hairline for a good two inches. It never grew back. Her hairline now starts somewhere near the top of her ears. It looks like the front half of her head is bald. Now she has to wear a wig.
If I were Aniston’s hairdresser I’d advise her to take out the extensions, let her hair go back to its natural color, and lay off all the blowdrying for at least a year. So what if she shows some gray? At least she will have a healthy head of hair if she leaves it alone for a while.

She has a SECURITY BLANKET. Is she a toddler??? And, RIPPED jeans are for 13 year olds, not 41 yr old women. GROW UP, you little child. This outfit is like a cry for help! hahaha
