Dean Sheremet files for divorce from LeAnn Rimes, wants spousal support

46th Annual ASCAP Country Music Awards - Arrivals

Surprising no one, Dean Sheremet has filed for divorce from his estranged wife LeAnn Rimes. When asked for a comment, LeAnn stopped grinding on Eddie Cibrian for ten full seconds to say “meh.” Not really. LeAnn and Dean separated back in July, just three days after Eddie and his wife Brandi Glanville formally filed separation papers. While Brandi has been speaking about Eddie and LeAnn to anyone who will listen, Dean has been keeping a very low profile, only appearing a few times in the past few months, after he moved out of the home he shared with LeAnn and moving to New York. Oh, and Dean mentions in the divorce papers that he wants LeAnn to pay spousal support and all of his lawyer’s fees. Which I kind of think is fair.

Dean Sheremet filed papers on Thursday to divorce LeAnn Rimes, UsMagazine.com has learned. In the petition for divorce, Sheremet asks for Rimes to pay spousal support plus all attorney fees and costs. His lawyer Stacy D. Phillips also requests the court not to grant spousal support to Rimes. The papers were made public on Friday.

Sheremet, now 29, married singer Rimes, now 27, in 2002. They separated in July 2009. Reports circulated that Rimes had filed in September to end her marriage, but no court records exist to support the rumor.

The singer did release a statement announcing their split. She said, “This decision was amicable and we remain committed and caring friends with great admiration for one another.”

Us Weekly first broke the story in March that Rimes was carrying on an affair with her former Lifetime movie costar, Eddie Cibrian. Cibrian, 36, was also married, with two children, to Brandi Glanville. His divorce from Glanville is ongoing. Cibrian and Rimes have stepped out together recently, attending events in Hollywood as a couple.

Sheremet is currently taking classes in Manhattan at the French Culinary Institute. In August, when asked about the extended Rimes-Cibrian affair that ended his marriage, he fought back tears and told Usmagazine.com, “It’s bizarre. It’s surreal. But I’m doing OK.”

[From Us Weekly]

I give Dean a lot of credit for the way he’s handled the LeAnn situation. Perhaps it was just about the money for him, or maybe he and LeAnn just handled their split with more maturity than most because they really do care about each other, and just didn’t want to be married anymore.

Oh, and now that I’m looking at these older photos of LeAnn Rimes, I’m getting more convinced that she’s had something done to her nose. It used to be bigger – I don’t think it’s just a shadow.

OF COURSE HE WANTS SPOUSAL SUPPORT. THAT WAS THE PLAN ALL ALONG. A GAY GUY FINDS A RICH YOUNG GIRL AND GET MARRIED, WHY? HIS PLAN IS ABOUT TO COME FULL CIRCLE.

  2. diva says:

Leann should have stayed with her husband, he seems like a nice guy. Eddie will just use her and move onto the next girl as soon as he gets tired of getting gifts. Eddie does not strike me as the type that is going to stick around Leann for very long, he treated his wife like dirt it’s just a matter of time before he does the same to her.

    you go dean sherbert! lol.

  4. Lway says:

    She looks like Shrek

  5. CandyKay says:

You know, they could be just good friends who got married because they enjoyed each other’s company.

I don’t think there had to be a dastardly plan on his part to cash in.

It seems to have been more of a brother-sister relationship, and maybe with Cibrian she felt a grand passion.

In my experience, it’s often easier to feel a grand passion with jerks than with sincerely nice guys.

  6. Bonfire Beach says:

Regardless of his sexual orientation, he really does have an extreme case of gayface.

  7. Green is Good says:

If Dean was in this marriage solely for money, he could have blabbed to every news outlet, entertainment magazine and t.v. show and gotten paid for his interview.

Nope, this guy got it right between the eyes with this affair.

  8. Iggles says:

Wow, my first reaction is what a wimpy move. What’s why these guys filing for spousal support? Like KFed, this dude should get a jump! It’s obvious this wasn’t a real marriage. I do believe the reports that he had an affair with the pool boy..

  9. princess pea says:

Funny, I don’t see you folks moaning about how Brandi Glanville should get a job. Or Elin Woods. Interesting.

    Anyone want to explain why?

  10. Feebee says:

@Princess Pea, maybe because they have young children to look after?

What did Dean do before he met LeAnn?

While I think Dean’s entitled to spousal support, when there aren’t dependents involved it should only be until that person (male or female) is back on their feet (unless of extenuating circumstances)

  11. Oi says:

Dean works in the music industry. Low level, but he does some producing, and works on music videos. He had/has a real job. He was on tour with Leann when they met.

@Princess Pea: I know what you’re thinking and I’m with you on that one. If he had the money and Leann was divorcing him (even with no kids) people would be screaming for her to clean him out because he’s an a$$

  12. Goddess711 says:

Go big or go home, Dean! Get what you can from her!

  13. Obvious says:

I like Dean. And I truly believe they still care about each other which is why they are handling it better, even if it’s just Dean who has feelings I respect him immensely for the way this is being handled. Brandi gives me a headache-yes you are the wronged wife, yes you’re upset-now shut up!

I thin Leeann and eddie should be more discreet until both marriages are officially over, but hey, to each their own.

    Team Dean.

  14. *Lee* says:

Spousal support has nothing to do with child support, having children wouldn’t affect it with way.

  15. lucy2 says:

Unless they had some sort of pre-nup, I would assume that as the lower wage earner, he’d be entitled to some sort of support. I doubt it would be a huge amount and it would probably only be for a short amount of time, but I’d be surprised if he got nothing.

Does she still even have much of a career, besides the Lifetime movie or whatever that was? I remember she was a pretty big music star at one point, but haven’t seen much of her in that field since.

  16. Wresa says:

I agree Oi. “Get that money, honey!” goes both ways.

  17. Mann1 says:

Leann/Dean married so young; young girls often like the girly-looking boys before they grow up and start wanting a manly man. Dean maybe wanted to be straight and gave it a shot.

So they married and there wasn’t a lot of passion there, but they were best friends and comfortable that way for a long time. They were always adorable together in pictures, like two best girfriends. I don’t see this as a case where she broke Dean’s heart; they just couldn’t carry on their marriage that way forever.

  18. Cat says:

ITA princess pea! I never understood the theory behind spousal support. If you want the $$ and lifestyle so badly, just stay married.
