Radar Online is calling out Ben Affleck for drinking vodka while at the Sundance Film Festival. According to eyewitnesses, Affleck sat down beside Tommy Lee Jones at one of the parties, and Ben grabbed a bottle of Absolut and poured himself a drink. This is a big deal because Ben is an alcoholic, assumed to be in recovery since he attended rehab back in 2001, although if memory serves, Ben fell off the wagon a few times since then, and admitted as much. But this is the first report of Ben drinking in public that I can remember in years and years. Radar has photos of Ben allegedly drinking, but I really can’t make out what’s in his hand – but there are alcoholic beverages on the table in front of him… which still doesn’t mean anything. Here’s more:
Ben Affleck has fallen off the wagon and is boozing again despite swearing off alcohol for good when he checked into rehab in 2001, RadarOnline.com is reporting exclusively.
Affleck was seen drinking vodka at a Sundance Film Festival party this past weekend.
The actor flew to Utah to attend DirecTV’s The Company Men after party at Village at the Yard. He had just finished participating in the Haiti telethon, which taped in Los Angeles.At the party for his new movie, Affleck “immediately sat down at a VIP table and grabbed the bottle of Absolut in front of him and poured a drink,” a source told RadarOnline.com.
Publicists, staffers and others were stunned because they know that Affleck is an admitted alcoholic. They got rid of all the photographers near the area to protect Affleck.
Affleck checked into Promises rehab in 2001. At that time his publicist said: “Ben is a self-aware and smart man who had decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol. He has chosen to seek out professional assistance, and is committed to traveling a healthier road with the support of his family, friends and fans.”
But Affleck has cleared veered off that healthier road. The source told RadarOnline.com that there was a lot of whispering about Ben drinking again, as staffers watched him toast with Tommy Lee Jones and pour down the vodka while they talked.
Affleck has been married to Jennifer Garner since 2005 and they have two children together.

Of course it could all be crap. I want to believe that Ben has won the long-term battle with his alcohol and substance abuse, and with his gambling problem. I want to believe that he’s happy with Jennifer Garner and their two beautiful girls, and that he’s no longer that old Ben, the one that overshared and loved the limelight and ruined his promising career. We’ll see.
By the way, after publicly calling his wife out on her overshare, Ben and Jennifer were snapped together yesterday afternoon, both looking very happy and comfortable. So maybe there’s no trouble in paradise.

I hope he stays on the wagon. He’s not just responsible for himself now, but for those two little girls. Plus I think he has a decent career as a director ahead of him, but if he slides back into old habits, it won’t last.

Battling an addiction is a lot of work and you never fully recover. Plus just because you don’t drink it does not mean the people around you are going to stop doing it infront of you.
Plus he looks happy and so normal with his family.

Ben’s been drinking for years, alcohol was never the problem the rumors were he really went to rehab for coke addiction.

i don’t mean to make light of his addiction, but there are plenty of people who continue to drink even after going through treatment. this does not mean that he’s back to his old/bad/destructive ways or that he’s drinking to the extent he used to.
i think that some people feel that they can’t have alcohol in their life at all and want to learn to live without it. others just want to learn to have control over their drinking.

um, just because a celeb goes to rehab doesn’t mean they seriously have a problem and need to never drink for life. i mean, in some cases, yes people have addictions, but in a lot of celebrity cases, rehab is just for public image control.
now, Robert Downey Jr., who was waking up in neighbors’ kid’s beds without knowing how he got there- HE is someone who should not be drinking again.

Ben’s in a totally different stage in his life then when he was an addict. Even if he just had one drink, which judging by the picture would be very difficult to prove since it’s hard to tell if he has ANYTHING in his hand even- who cares? 9 years after rehab doesn’t mean one drink would have him crawling back. Drew Barrymore still drinks but knows not to over-indulge. Although she was in rehab at like 12.
I know they say once and addict always an addict, but if you go to rehab and through life experience learn that your previous behavior was bad, I think a person might be able to moderate themselves or indulge in that one drink every once in a while.

birdie – nah, she’s not. he could be in a tux and i’d still call him gargabe man. this is my name for ben. the garbage man. i think it’s his facial hair situation. it does not please me. he perpetually has 5:00 shadow and, to mine eyes, he’s not one of those men who look hot with the shadow. he just looks dirty and garbagey.

Summer 2008, on my birthday, I was at a lounge in Cambridge, MA and talked to Ben while he slammed back a few beers (I even have pics of us together with drinks). He was a little tipsy in my opinion… but it isn’t like he is a mean or bad drunk…very respectful and fun…but he definitely hasn’t been sober since 2001! He’s so nice and down to earth…love him!

Moderation therapy is getting rather popular now as well. It’s possible that rather than swearing to abstinence, Ben is committed to moderation. I don’t honestly think anyone’s seen him out of control since rehab, so maybe it’s working?

Some can moderate their alcohol use, some can’t and must quit entirely.
Time will tell which type of drinker Ben resembles.

Rumor has it that not only does Ben still drink he also screws around. And apparently Jennifer tries to ignore it to keep the family together. He might have married a respectable woman but that doesn’t mean he’s become a respectable man.
