Elton John: “Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man”

parade

Oh, God. Elton John is going to piss people off with this one. Perhaps that’s what he’s trying to do, though. Get a little controversy going, add on some publicity for… whatever he’s promoting? I think he’s just promoting his foundation, honestly. Anyway, this is Elton’s new interview in Parade Magazine, and it’s pretty interesting. Even though I think Elton is probably one of the biggest bitches out there, I have so admiration for him, and I love his music to this day. Elton talks about love and loss, HIV/AIDS, drugs, and in the sound byte that will launch a million anti-Elton campaigns, he says “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East — you’re as good as dead.” Oh, Jesus!

Making early mistakes in love.
“I’d always choose someone younger. I wanted to smother them with love. I’d take them around the world, try to educate them. One after another they got a Cartier watch, a Versace outfit, maybe a sports car. They didn’t have jobs. They were reliant on me. I did this repeatedly. In six months they were bored and hated my guts because I’d taken their lives and self-worth away. I hadn’t intended to.”

Love and drugs.
“Just about every relationship I ever had was involved with drugs. It never works. But I always had to be with someone, good or bad, otherwise I didn’t feel fulfilled. I’d lost the plot.”

It’s all or nothing when it comes to drugs.
“For some people a gram of cocaine can last a month. Not me. I have to do the lot, and then I want more. At the end of the day, all it led to was heartache.”

Why fame has lost its appeal.
“Princess Diana, Gianni Versace, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, all dead. Two of them shot outside their houses. None of this would have happened if they hadn’t been famous. Fame attracts lunatics. I never had a bodyguard, ever, until Gianni died. I don’t like celebrity anymore.”

Remembering friends lost.
“Every time I sing ‘The Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes’ onstage, I say that this is a song written about a time when people in America started getting AIDS and your president, Ronald Reagan, did nothing about it. I get boos. There’s a lot of hate in the world.”

His take on Christianity.
“I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East — you’re as good as dead.”

He’ll never stop helping.
“I set up my foundation because I wanted to make amends for the years I was a drug addict. People with HIV are still stigmatized. The infection rates are going up. People are dying. The political response is appalling. The sadness of it, the waste.”

Finding new relationships.
“In 1993 I went back to my house in Windsor for a while. I wanted meet new people so I rang up a friend in London and said, ‘Could you please rattle some new people together for dinner here Saturday?'”

An instant connection.
“I was attracted to David immediately. He was very well dressed, very shy. The next night we had dinner. After it, we consummated our relationship. We fell in love very quickly.”

Keeping the love alive.
“Every Saturday for 16 years, we’ve sent each other a card, no matter where we are in the world, to say how much we love each other.”

Communication is key.
“We’ve never been jealous. We talk about the sexual side of things, things that normally would have frightened me before.”

[From Parade]

See, I know what Elton is trying to say, kind of. He’s trying to talk about what he’s learned from the New Testament and the teachings of Christ. And maybe what he’s learned has led him to the belief that he’s a lot like Jesus, or vice versa? Maybe. Is Elton saying that Jesus is gay, and this, gay people are closer to Jesus? F-ck, I really have no idea. I’m just hoping this doesn’t become a huge thing.

lol Jesus was gay. he’s just trying to annoy people really. it’s a bit petty.

  2. Snarf says:

Cue the ourage and media poo-storm over Elton John’s comment in 5, 4, 3…

  3. Lem says:

best. least. queenest. interview from him in a long time.
Like he took note of how Rupert was received and changed his tact just slightly

  4. mackenziee says:

how was he annoying ppl, anon?
You’re comment doesnt make me angry, but it does make me really sad. You can deny as much as you want out of fear, but Jesus loves you. and because He wants us to love each other, I love you.
Is christianity that bad in your eyes? not the corrupt, superifical, hypocritical christianity. but the pureness, the center of it. the whole purpose it’s built on. It tells you to serve one another and love each other. that’s what families do. that’s what God does for us. So how is it so ridiculous and annoying?

  5. GatsbyGal says:

Jesus is all things. He’s the sky, the grass, the trees, the birds, the deer, the bears, the moose, the maple syrup, the pantyhose, the hybrid cars, The Cure – all things!

Also, Jesus was technically a bisexual, because he loved everyone. 😀

  6. hatsumomo says:

Forgive me for where this is going or how it might sound but….

What the F is with everyone trying to make historic figures gay?

First there are stories and rumors that Albert Enstien was gay.

    Then it was Abraham Lincoln.

    And now its Jesus?

Whos next? President Obama in 50 years? Because he was the first black man elected American leader?

  7. TaylorB says:

Wow that should go over well with the fanatical religious folks, not that they pay much attention to Elton John to begin with. But can you just imagine, if he were still alive, how Jerry Falwell would have reacted to that comment? He was so rabidly homophobic he would have just flipped out.

  8. GatsbyGal says:

Hatsumomo – It’s already happened, actually. I think it was Globe Magazine about a year ago who ran some story about Obama being involved in a “gay sex & drugs” scandal.

  9. mackenziee says:

    gatsbygal,
is your mom a pedophile because she loves you? does your dad have weird thoughts while loving you?
there’s a differnet kind of love, which Jesus has. If only you truly knew him, then you’d see.

  10. GatsbyGal says:

@MacKenziee – Siiiigh. You’re the reason Christians get a bad rep. Can’t even tell when someone’s being silly for silly’s sake.

  11. Praise St. Angie! says:

“Wow that should go over well with the fanatical religious folks, not that they pay much attention to Elton John to begin with.”

actually, I’ve found that most fanatical religious people DO pay a LOT of attention to people like Elton John because they’re the prime targets for the cries of “immoral!!!”, and the prime source of ammunition to further their causes.

just like in Private Parts they talk about how the people who hate Howard Stern listened, on average, twice as long as Stern fans did.

  12. Kim says:

He is trying to justify being gay by saying Jesus was gay. HE isnt a brain surgeon people what do you expect? His career is about creating controversy hence why he even said this (to get a rise out of people). Stupid and immature

  13. california angel says:

I’m confused as to why it’s some odd thing to postulate that he might have also been into dudes? During the time he was around, the male body was idealized much as the female body is today. Women were largely seen as means for procreation and labor. That’s why it was such a huge deal that Jesus acknowledged women as equals to men. It really wouldn’t be this huge, historical leap of a theory. Considering all of the other things written about Jesus, according to the bible, this would be far from the craziest IMO.

  14. anon says:

excuse me mckenzie i think you’ve taken my comment the wrong way. in fact i don’t even see how you got all that from what i said but i when i said i think he was trying to annoy people i meant that he knows that this comment will cause outrage among the conservative media and will therefore garner him more publicity. it’s a cheap stunt. otherwise why speculate on Jesus’ sexuality. it’s a moot point. as a devout christian i don’t believe that it matters one bit whether jesus was straight gay or asexual. i think that by stating that Jesus was gay is trying to create some media hype around his comments

  15. wif says:

Jesus’ sex-life is none of my business.

  16. Leticia says:

Gee, I wonder why Elton John didn’t make this claim about the founder of Islam?

It is politically permissible to say anything about the founder of Christianity, but no one dares to say anything controversial about the founder of Islam.

  17. GatsbyGal says:

Leticia – That’s because if you insult Islam, there’s always a chance you’ll get blown up by a zealot. Christian zealots aren’t really known for their suicide bombings, they’re more apt to protest funerals or shoot doctors who perform abortions.

  18. naye in VA says:

Jesus (not that im speaking for Jesus) is like the guy off of BANG THEORY. the uptight one who believes not a human being on earth is worth his sexual interest male or female. YEa Jesus is like that. You guys forget he had a will, a plan, and a timeline.

None of it included sexual or spousal relations.Therefore.

    Asexual

  19. Praise St. Angie! says:

Kim, I don’t think he was trying to “justify” anything.

at this point in his life, I don’t think he feels the need to justify to ANYONE that he’s gay.

I’m willing to bet that he believes (as do I) that sexual orientation is biological, so there would be no need to justify it, no more than there is a need to justify why his eyes are brown.

  20. Seer says:

There is NOTHING in the New Testament that says whether or not Jesus is either straight or gay, single or married, or even bisexual. The Bible is often interpreted, and of course, if you’re a homosexual, it’s kind of reassuring to interpret the passages as depicting Jesus as gay, which I personally don’t think so. I heard about this man who claimed that many passages show that Jesus was gay. Those same passages can also show that Jesus was NOT gay. Still, people will continue to interpret The Bible the way they choose, and the best thing is just to feel good with your own personal beliefs. If Elton John wants to believe that Jesus was a gay man, it bothers me a little bit, but it doesn’t upset me. I realize his bias, and his obvious need to believe what he does.

  21. Peach says:

Well and the prophet of Islam had wives. Wives that he sang the praises of. Unless they were his beards. I’m not Muslim but some of my family is. I’d convert in a second if I found out Mohammad was gay. Hells yes.

But why couldn’t Jesus be gay? Why couldn’t historical figures be gay?

    GAY ISN’T AN INSULT.

  22. mackenziee says:

    anon,
I’m sorry i took your comment the wrong way. I thought you meant that Jesus was annoying.

    btw Gatsbygal,
there are things you can be silly with. But there’s also other things where you shouldnt be. There’s boundaries that you shouldn’t cross over.

  23. ses says:

I thought it was hilarious that he dished to PARADE magazine that he and his boyfriend “consummated our relationship” after their first date. Just what everyone loves to read about over Sunday morning coffee.

Can you imagine Harrison Ford talking to Parade about how he and Calista Flockhart got some drinks then f-ed on their first date? Elton’s a gossipy bitch!

  24. GatsbyGal says:

MacKenziee – I fail to see how I have “crossed a boundary.” Would you care to define this boundary for me? Get over yourself and stop taking things so seriously, you’ll live longer.

  25. mackenziee says:

what would you say if someone said you’re mom’s bisexual or your dad is just for the fun of it? i keep referring to parents or ppl we love, because thats who jesus is to me. So don’t say things ppl won’t even find remotely funny.

  26. GatsbyGal says:

If someone were saying it with the obvious intention of being silly and goofing around, then yeah, I’d find it funny and would probably laugh because it’s not true. Because I don’t see being gay or bi as a bad thing. To me, it’s like if someone were to say my dad was a centaur or my mom was made of cheese. It’s funny, it’s not true, and it’s not really an insult.

But it seems like, to you, being called gay or bi is a HUGE insult. Because you’re getting really bent out of shape about this. You’re coming across as kind of homophobic at this point, actually.

  27. princess pea says:

Well mackenzie, you can’t expect us ALL to walk your boundary line, or even to know where it is. I think Gatsby has said some awesome things in this thread, Peach too. It’s an emotional trigger for you to hear something negative or silly about Jesus, I understand that. Although to me, it’s kind of like how you-know-who gets upset if someone says bad stuff about Jolie. It’s okay if I don’t love Ang, and it’s okay if I don’t believe that Jesus Christ was the messiah as foretold in the old testament, or that the bible is truth.

I think it’s funny how every time someone slags Jesus a commenter will complain that they can’t insult Mohammed. Sure you can. And then you will face the consequences, just like Elton will face the bad press the religious right will give him. But more than that, the real reason that Elton isn’t likely to go off on Islam (or Judaism. Why do people always overlook it in these debates?) is that he wasn’t raised in a society where the majority of believers were Muslim, or Jewish. He did grow up in a place where Christianity had a history of being part of the governing body. So Jesus, as a historical/mythical figure, has more impact on Elton.

  28. anon says:

mckenzie, i don’t think that people aren’t entitled to joke about christianity, i mean i am a christian but that doesn’t mean i dont’ have a sense of humour too and i doubt many people would be too worried about people joking about their parents sexuality. i think only people who are homophobic would feel that way. as you say jesus loves us all and i don’t believe that A) he couldn’t take a joke, and B) that he was a homophobe. that doesn’t gel with the Jesus i know! i don’t think gatsbygirl has crossed any boundaries. a joke is a joke and there’s no need to take everything so seriously. its a long life without a joke

  29. PAgirl says:

Sorry but Jesus is not gay. Jesus claimed to be God. God said homosexuality is an abomination. So not gay. I am a christian. I also love Elton John but he is just trying to be controversial. Parade runs in the Sunday paper. Hilarious. Also his sex on the first date comment. He is a fabulous riot. I’d like to think Jesus finds him hysterically funny.

  30. Goosie says:

Maybe Jesus liked some man action, I don’t know. I do think sexuality is a continuum, not binary, so it’s possible Jesus was attracted to men. I also buy that he was married to Magdalene. Who knows!

And oh yeah, what others have said….gay isn’t an insult, there’s no need for Elton to justify his gayness to anyone.

  31. mackenziee says:

a joke saying that he’s bisexual? I have to say I strongly disagree with that. Yes, Jesus loves us all. Of course he wasn’t homophobic. There’s other jokes that be about christianity. just search up on youtube, and there are hilarious ones. But I don’t believe that joking around that he’s bisexual is funny in any way.

  32. GatsbyGal says:

Mackenziee – It’s not funny to you because you’re a homophobe. You’ve pretty much proven that at this point.

  33. Paris says:

Maybe its not a joke. Maybe he was bisexual. Does that mean that all it takes to convice you that Jesus isn’t as good as you believe is a difference in sexual preference? 🙂 Chill. Don’t worry about the technicalities. God’s too big to put in a box.

  34. Dorothy says:

I really hate religion. I grew up in a nice catholic family and I still hate it, but I did learn a few things before I went rouge!

Aren’t we made in God’s image? Isn’t Jesus God’s son? If some of us are gay and we were made in God’s image it is safe to say that Jesus may have been gay. and if he was WHO THE F*CK CARES?????

  35. mackenziee says:

this will be my last comment. and I want to say i believe with all my heart that he wasn’t bisexual. sexual preference is such a touchy subject, and ppl don’t like the opinion christians have on this matter so what I say will make alot of ppl angry.
But definitely Jesus was not bisexual. he welcomed everyone into his life, gay or not. but he wasnt himself. If you just knew the Bible, the word of God more clearly, then you’d see.
” Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time–God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.”
He is Jesus, the Messiah, BECAUSE of who he was. Because of how he lived his life. Aside from all this sexual controversy about him, i believe he came to save us. He was a servant to us.
I’m not mad at any of you guys or trying to argue my way through and win over an argument. I really am not trying to be stubborn and satisfy myself with getting my point across. I said all that I said, because if there is something that I’m living for, I’m not just going to tuck it away. I have to profess what I believe. It’s a conviction. And whatever mockery you make of what I might say, it cannot offend me in any way because I’ll gladly pay the price for that. To suffer for Him is the most honorable gift of all.

  36. Paris says:

There are so many ways to interpret the bible. Just remember that what you believe and I believe are different. You read the bible, and come out with these thoughts. I read the same thing and think differently. People are just different. I love it.

  37. Sumodo1 says:

    STFU, Elton John. Seriously.

  38. Zebra Hat says:

    Leticia-

Yeah, nobody ever says anything like this about Muhammed, because people are respectful and tolerant of every religion BUT Christianity. If a Christian kills an abortion doctor, everyone blames Christianity and we have to hear about how horrible Christians are, but when Muslims comitt terrorist attacks, everyone falls all over themselves to say that it’s not Islam that caused it, because Islam is a “religion of peace”…which we all know is NOT TRUE. Why the double standards? Why do people defend Islam and their religious terrorists, but scream about how intolerant, bigoted and just all-around horrible ALL Christians are just for believing in Jesus?

Elton can think whatever he wants about Jesus, that is his right. However, it would be nice for him to consider the feelings of Christians before he says something so potentially controversial. Just because you may think something does not mean that you need to announce it to the world. I guess he felt a little ignored and needed some attention, but this probably isn’t the best way to do it. Does he think that calling Jesus gay is the way to get those Christians who do not accept homosexuality to accept it? Does he not realize that he’s HURTING his cause, not helping it? What an idiot.

  39. canadianchick says:

Good debate-Elton has done his job well getting us to think about it. I’ve read a few articles how prevalemt homosexuality is in the middle East. I’d bet God loves and accepts gay, bisexual, asexual and straight people equally, including the people who disagree whether Jesus is gay or not. I’d bet God would also be okay with us all throwing on some pink and dancing to Cher too. *putting on pink outfit and hitting the ipod*

  40. gingivitis says:

Ah, the truth is revealed: BOTH Jesus and MACKENZIEE are annoying.

  41. V65Magna1 says:

    You’re projecting, dude!
    Give it up.

  42. GatsbyGal says:

“And whatever mockery you make of what I might say, it cannot offend me in any way because I’ll gladly pay the price for that.”

Really Mackenziee? Because you seem really easily offended to me. And I love how you never explained why it is that you think being gay or bi is such a terrible thing. But whatever. Thanks for lowering my opinion of Christians even further than it already is.

  43. lola lola says:

Elton has tons of money and is using it to help people. That’s wonderful. And he seems to have found a very happy place in his life. Again, wonderful. After than he can say Jesus is a jar of olives. I don’t care.

  44. Just a Poster says:

    Oh Elton.. why????

Forget all the good he does, forget his epic diva fits, forget all of his music…

Sadly this will be what many will remember.

  45. daisyfly says:

Christ on a cracker, this is amusing. Elton says things to rile people up. And looky-loo, it’s worked! People begin spouting about stuff they don’t know (Jesus never said he was God, BTW) and making false claims (Who said you CAN’T insult Mohammad?) and before you know it, it’s all out internet war!

Who cares if Jesus was gay? Does that in any way detract from the lessons he was trying to teach humanity? That unless we look at each other as we would ourselves, and treat each other with the same dignity and kindness that we would expect and demand for ourselves, that we’re all destined to suffering and subjugation?

For the record, Jesus said not one single word about homosexuals.

  46. Rosalee says:

HEY!! Mackenize is allowed to voice her/his opinion, no matter how unpopular it may be to the people on this site. Jesus may or may not have been gay, but he was the first male FEMINIST. Now everybody sing..”Jesus loves me yes I know for the bible tells me so…”

  47. T. Noran says:

    Elton John,

Seriously are you that bored. Time for you to get a life and enjoy the bucks that are sending you to hell. You are way, too old and I mean way too old to be playing this card. Keep your gay comments to yourself, you give gays a bad name.

  48. whateva says:

    y-a-w-n

  49. Lay Low says:

    T. Noran,

Judge not, lest ye be judged. Keep your homophobic, “stay in the closet” comments to yourself. You give straight people and Christians a bad name.

  50. Maritza says:

Since God lives in each person, then it’s his choice to see Jesus as gay and that makes him happy, then good for him.

  51. wif says:

Just for the record (although I doubt anyone is still reading this thread) I would like to make noted that there is the Christian Right and the Christian Left. There is the implication by the Christian Right that all Christians believe homosexuality is a sin, and this is not the case.

I applaud Mackenziee for her (?) deep and abiding faith, and how she eloquently expresses Jesus’ love. I disagree with her stance on homo/bisexuality.

  52. Aspie says:

@ Zebra Hat: Islam is a religion of peace that promotes tolerance for all.

It’s too bad that some only tout the negative followers of it that blow up buildings. I know many people who ascribe to the Islam faith and none of them have blown up buildings and have only shown me love and tolerance.

    Stereotyping gets us nowhere.

  53. anon says:

gatsby girl, i’m also a christian and we’re not all so uptight so please don’t lump me in with judgmental homophobes because THAT is insulting

  54. Melanie says:

    Best. Celebrity. Quote. Ever.

  55. CB Rawks says:

Mackenzieee, since you didn’t know Jesus personally I’m not going to be able to just take your word for it about his sexual orientation.
And I don’t believe everything I read, because people tend to write what they WISH was true most of the time, so you can’t be sure of the bible’s accuracy either.

What really grinds my nards is the way religious types insist their god is the ONLY one, and that all other religions are just confused or mistaken. I think that’s rude. All fairy tales have the same approximate likelihood of reality. You guys should really be more supportive of eachother’s delusions.

Also, Awesome comment Elton! I might actually grow to like you.

  56. Trillion says:

Zebra Hat and Leticia: Sorry to burst your martyr bubble but you are simply wrong. Invent a new problem. First of all, bringing the argument “Why didn’t Elton John say this about Mohammed?” is totally absurd. He didn’t say it about Mohammed because A) he comes from a Christian culture, not a Muslim one and B) Mohammed was obviously heterosexual and this is well documented. Very very little is known about Jesus Christ. He is only referred to in the Bible. (aside from a tiny legal mention in Roman history by Cicero). There is no mention of wife or children, which leaves the matter of his sexual preference subject to interpretation. But mainly, the fact that you are turning this into “Poor Christians! Jesus got called gay and Mohammed didn’t” is patently ridiculous. If it makes you feel any better, Mohammed gets called a pedophile a lot more than Jesus gets called gay.

  57. Kevin says:

Elton hasn’t been shit since Bernie quit writing his stuff for him. That has been a VERY long time for those of you at home keeping score.

  58. nana says:

first I thought hes talking about Jesus Luz of Madonna, then I read & I find myself disliking him and feeling sad. For me it is just disrespecting the One Christianity has faith in. He should know his limits, he hurt people’s feeling with this. I mean, words are not enough to describe what i feel but i have this like being hurt terribly. Its just like he called my father gay. Jesus image is pure for the Christians and he just pushed the sensitive button. I like gay people but to call Jesus the Lord gay is just so out of this world. he doesnt even know Jesus personally. It is so sad that a man who offered his life for all will be just a subject of ridiculous comments by modern world singers like Elton John for fame.

  59. Katija says:

Muhammed, Buddha, all the Hindu gods, and the Messiah that the Jews are waiting for are all gay too.

There. Now everyone can be offended.

  60. GatsbyGal says:

    @Anon – Nah, don’t worry buddy, you’re a good’n. 🙂

  61. toto says:

jesus , don’t we have any boundries any more ? why jesus ? what left us to look for if we drag him in all possibilities .i am muslim and i love jesus so much .. it hurts m heart to hear people have no respect for anything any more .

if people are so open minded about gay..its ok to believe what the want but ain’t it bad to see false fact about somene we al respect and love at least from the historical fact? ain’t jesus falls in human rights nice people in here.

all i wish is to have the least boundry with to not judge jesus.

is elton is gay hell we don’t care its his choice but i dsagree making his choice the new rule the new book with new gay god ,king, .

i urge nicely any one in here lets show jesus some little respect for what he did to not bringing him in such matters

and ellton i would say it clearly shame on u , shame on u … to bring jesus in this

  62. Emily says:

Lol at Katija! I’m a pagan, and I know some of my gods are queer.

@nana: wow, homophobic much? Do you know Jesus personally? I mean, has he visited you recently and told you himself that he’s straight? No? Huh.

  63. Kelli says:

honestly the fact that people are actually offended by this is is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. so elton said jesus was gay, so what? does it affect or change your beliefs? no, it doesnt. its elton john and is one mans opinion. either ignore it or get over it, the outrage over this is just plain stupid. its one mans opinion, it doesnt change yours. let it go.

  64. benny says:

Elton John remarks about Jesus was a gay is just one way of bringing back his popularity that has been wanning for a while. The only scapegoat that he could thought of was of course is Jesus because who else is more popular than Jesus? Besides, he knew there’s not chance for Jesus to file any lawsuit against him for saying something so derogatory and defamatory. I’ve been a big fan of him but now not anymore. I would still have if he had not resorted to stoop so low to insult Jesus whom to many believers is God himself. Goodbye to you Sir Elton John forever!!!

  65. isabelle says:

    Oh, for f***’s sake.

  66. Lway says:

@ mackenziee : You need to understand that not EVERYONE loves Jesus – we’re all entitled to our OPPINION here and you’re trying to force your beliefs.

I’m Atheist – i personally believe that religion is just a measure of control – but i won’t get into it cause i’m not really in the mood for people like Mackenziee to pick shit at my beliefs.

    @ gingivitis: LOL!

@ Gatsby – you’re on a roll today honey – you just seem to be pissing everyone off! Having fun? 🙂

  67. toto says:

killi whats faith to you means ? having god in heart only ?
faith is heart and work and part of both is defnding jesus from such ignorance ..won’t u defned your beloved mom to be draged in things she does not even can argue about ?

won’t you defend or even comment on someone lashed on your friends ?

i find it so weird to take everything and more weird to accept all too not even logical .

we are not stupid but we stand with lease we can do , a comment in here n there for our beloved jesus ..and im sure you d the same for your beloved ones ..

its moral issue its faith ..its a respct to a man hes not any more among us .
its a rspect to what he did o humanity ..religouse or not …he was very good human on earth.

  68. nana says:

Emily, Jesus has not told me he is straight but I believe he followed the laws of God. How about you? Did he visited you and told you he is Gay?

You or Elton John have own beliefs and have the right to believe whatever you want. However, he does not have the right to disparage our belief in God or the son of God, or denounce or define any Biblical figures orientation when he has nothing concrete on which to base such an inflammatory statement. Jesus is an important figure in all Christian denominations. Elton John should use caution when speaking of things related to faith. This comment was made in bad taste and I see no reason why it should be made in the first place. Discretion is still the better part of valor.

In the eyes of religion, homosexuality is unacceptable. Modern society has accepted homosexuality but it doesn’t mean calling Jesus gay is already right. God loves everyone. Love the sinner, but not the sin. And as stated in the Bible and Quran, no asterisk’s needed, homosexuality is a sin.

  69. Lara says:

Ok Jesus was obv gay because he hung around with 12 guys and a prostitute!

  70. Lway says:

@ Nana – “homosexuality is a sin” – Really? Didn’t your God say you’re not allowed to judge?

If Jesus really loves us so much – why would he send us to hell to burn forever – it makes no sense?.

  71. crash2GO2 says:

Elton is certainly entitled to his opinion. No matter how wacked out I think it may be. *shakes head*

  72. annie says:

Lway, it’s we who send ourselves to hell, not God. He has given us the rules to live by, it’s totally up to us how we choose to live. And I could care less what Elton has to say about anything.

  73. Praise St. Angie! says:

“However, he does not have the right to disparage our belief in God or the son of God, or denounce or define any Biblical figures orientation when he has nothing concrete on which to base such an inflammatory statement.”

actually, he absolutely DOES have that right.

it’s called freedom of speech. and you have the right to bash him all you want for his comments, but he has the right to say them.

the bible was written by MEN, not by God or by Jesus, and if you don’t think those men who wrote it threw a little of their OWN morality in there, you’re sorely mistaken.

  74. princess pea says:

“However, he does not have the right to disparage our belief in God or the son of God, or denounce or define any Biblical figures”

    Wrong.
    A) To believe that someone is gay is not disparaging or denouncing in any way, UNLESS you are a homophobe, which Elton is not. Ergo, he did not insult your messiah; you are overreacting.
    B) Elton’s characterization of Jesus as loving, super-intelligent, compassionate, and forgiving is not disparaging or denouncing in any way shape or form, even if you ARE a homophobe.

Also false: “In the eyes of religion, homosexuality is unacceptable.” You meant in the eyes of YOUR religion. Which isn’t the same one that everyone holds and doesn’t have superiority over someone else’s.

If you, or anyone, said that my mom or dad was gay I’d laugh. So would they. Because it’s not insulting. It’s like if you said my dad is bald, or that my mom is right-handed.

  75. me says:

get ready for godhateseltonjohn.com (brought to you by the westboro baptist church) to appear in 3..2..1..NOW!

  76. GatsbyGal says:

Lway – You know it! I always have fun.

  77. nana says:

if you think he did not insulted Jesus then that’s your call, for me as one of believers we are offended. Jesus founded the church that condemned homosexuality and later called Gay by a man who cohabits with another man. not because he mentioned Jesus as loving and super intelligent, we have already to forget that he called Jesus gay. his overall statement is still blasphemous. In the eyes of Religion to which I am referring the Christianity, Islam, Jewish and those who condemn, this is unacceptable. I did not say I speak in behalf of all religion as you may already under the new religious sect of Elton John. If I call you gay, you laugh, so thats ok. But we are talking about here the founder of a Church and our leader and not about your family members or the man you meet on the streets.

I am not religious but I know Christ is the embodiment of forgiveness. He said, anyone who speak against his name will still be forgiven but a word against the Father will not be tolerated. Blasphemy against God is written in 10 Commandments, 2nd rule in the Catholic/Lutheran, 3rd in Jewish/Anglican/Orthodox/other Christians, higher sin than murder.

@praise: As a Catholic, I believe in our holy book, maybe written by men, ants or termites, the bottomline is- it is book of Good who ask us to live in positive ways, by not hurting others. My beliefs in the Bible, Jesus and God is as strong as your beliefs to Elton John.

Lway: heaven and hell is another story.

As Camus said, I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn’t, than live my life as if there isn’t and die to find out there is.

  78. Trillion says:

A thinking person should not trust a belief system where speaking against the leader is considered wrong. If that doesn’t set off one’s b.s. meter, I don’t know what could.

  79. Praise St. Angie! says:

“if you think he did not insulted Jesus then that’s your call, for me as one of believers we are offended.”

    and THAT’S THE POINT.

go ahead, be offended. you have that right, but don’t for a minute think that he doesn’t have the right to offend you. and don’t act like we ALL should be offended. not everybody in the world subscribes to YOUR religion, or YOUR ideas of morality.

Jesus didn’t found a church, btw. the church of Christianity was founded by his disciples, based on his teachings. but he didn’t “found” anything.

“As a Catholic, I believe in our holy book, maybe written by men, ants or termites, the bottomline is- it is book of Good who ask us to live in positive ways, by not hurting others.”

and I never said it wasn’t that…what I said was that, since it was written by MAN, he put things in there that are not necessarily what the Creator believes.

again, if you think that the men who wrote it didn’t add some of their own morality to it, morals that God didn’t give a rat’s ass about, you are seriously deluded.

  80. maylea says:

wow i dont even know who this guy is and i already dont like him

  81. SammyHammy says:

Of course Jesus wasn’t gay. That’s obvious. EJ is just trying to stir up a little controversy and get some attention, and it appears he has succeeded. I am definitely a Christian, but this is so stupid I can’t even bother to be offended by it.

  82. tinkitaway says:

I think it is so wrong for him to say that. I hope god has mercy on his soul for his words.

  83. nana says:

you are more deluded than I am praise. the way you want to insist over and over again that i believe bible was not altered by men is just like avoiding the whole point.

yes i am offended and i will continue to be if someone says against God and Christ. As same I will continue to defend our religion. You are a different subscriber and while you hear how gay men call the Christ names, you like it, applaud and you rejoice. I am different from you, we are not on the same boat.

I do not want to point further who founded, started the church whatsoever because we are totally different, i based mine from the bible and our teachings and you do not believe on it so theres no reason to discuss further.

  84. Praise St. Angie! says:

nana, if you believe that the bible was not “altered”, or added to, by the men writing it, then yes, you are deluded. If you think those men didn’t put some “moral rules” in there to keep society living and functioning as THEY thought it should…yes, you’re deluded.

And just about EVERY biblical scholar will tell you that. I took plenty of theology courses (Christian and Judaism) at my Jesuit college, with different professors, some of whom were Jesuit PRIESTS, and they say the same thing.

what point is it exactly that I’m avoiding? that you’re offended? that you have the right to BE offended? try again, because those points are agreed upon.

    and this?…

“and while you hear how gay men call the Christ names, you like it, applaud and you rejoice.”

Rejoice? applaud? hardly. I simply acknowledge that this man has the right to believe and say whatever he wants. clearly, you don’t feel the same, and think that EVERYONE should feel offended as you do.

And, sorry…I’m just not. I’m also a (recovering) Catholic, and my relationship with my God is a personal one. I don’t foist it upon anyone which is pretty much what you’re doing.

  85. tinkitaway says:

nana is saying how he or she feels. what’s so wrong with that? did nana ever tell us to ALL be offended and rise up? no. she simply said how she feels about what elton john said. you guys all jump on christians’ asses and say we’re trying to dominate the conversation when we’re speaking the same amount of words, using our own brain and mind, jjust like you.
fine. think what you like. but dont tell us what not to say.
i agree with sammihammi that this is just a ridiculous, ridiculous remark by someone whos evil and deluded. lets just say whatever

  86. annie says:

As you know Praise, the Jesuits are’nt who or what they used to be,I don’t put alot of stock in anything they say anymore. Shit, talk about altering things!

  87. annie says:

Praise, so you’re not Catholic anymore? Yep, that Jesuit college did it’s job!

  88. Praise St. Angie! says:

“the Jesuits are’nt who or what they used to be”

how so? I’m just not sure exactly what you mean by “not what they used to be”. what’s changed?

regardless of whoever/whatever they used to be or are now, I still think they know a bit more about the bible than the average layman.

and no, I didn’t say I wasn’t Catholic anymore. The “recovering” part is meant as a joke, along the lines of “recovering alcoholic”. You’ll always be one, but fight against it completely controlling you and all of your actions.

oh, and a Jesuit school’s job isn’t to keep people being Catholic or convert people to Catholicism. it just a school founded BY Jesuits, that teaches in the “Jesuit tradition”. And I didn’t attend BECAUSE I’m Catholic, just because it’s a great school in an awesome city. It may shock to you to learn that Jewish and Muslim people (GASP!) attended as well. We had two semesters of theology required, but I took more because the subjects were interesting.

  89. daisyfly says:

    Nana…holy hell.

“for me as one of believers we are offended.”

Who are you, the bloody Queen of England? You don’t speak for all whom believe in Christ because I know for a fact that you do NOT speak for me.

“Jesus founded the church that condemned homosexuality and later called Gay by a man who cohabits with another man.”

WRONG. 1) Jesus founded no Church. He was not the FOUNDER of anything. 2) Jesus never said a WORD about homosexuality. In fact, what he DID say about God’s laws was that all of the old ones (Deuteronomy, Leviticus) were inconsequential. It’s why you can wear fabrics made of blended fibers, and eat shellfish, and sleep in the same house as your menstruating wife and daughters without getting stoned.

“we have already to forget that he called Jesus gay. his overall statement is still blasphemous. In the eyes of Religion to which I am referring the Christianity, Islam, Jewish and those who condemn, this is unacceptable.”

This isn’t unacceptable. Jesus never said to condemn anyone for saying something you didn’t like.

“I did not say I speak in behalf of all religion as you may already under the new religious sect of Elton John.”

Yes you did. Read the above snipped of YOUR post.

    “I am not religious”

You say….and then say this: “As a Catholic…” Last time I checked, you can’t be BORN Catholic. It’s not like being BORN Jewish. And last time I checked, LYING was pretty much a big No-No in the CATHOLIC church.

“He said, anyone who speak against his name will still be forgiven but a word against the Father will not be tolerated.”

Well then it’s a good thing Jesus isn’t God, then, isn’t it?

“Blasphemy against God is written in 10 Commandments, 2nd rule in the Catholic/Lutheran, 3rd in Jewish/Anglican/Orthodox/other Christians, higher sin than murder.”

And he wasn’t blaspheming God, so again, your point is moot.

“…it is book of Good who ask us to live in positive ways, by not hurting others.”

And how is calling him gay hurting Jesus?

“My beliefs in the Bible, Jesus and God is as strong as your beliefs to Elton John.”

So you’re saying she’s a follower in the church of Elton John?

“As Camus said, I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn’t, than live my life as if there isn’t and die to find out there is.”

Well then you’d better start learning about WTF you’re talking about, because you’re just as much a blasphemer as you’re claiming others to be.

  90. annie says:

Praise, nope does’nt surprise me at all that Jewish and Muslims attended, having gone to Catholic schools myself for 9 yrs. we always had different religions because the education was good. The basic premise of a catholic school is to confirm you’re faith or why not just make it a secular school?

  91. zendell says:

Elton John is a misfit–Genesis 1:27 and Roman 1:27) When God created a partner for Adam He created Eve – not another Adam. If God intended the human race to be multiplied through homosexuals like Elton John there would be no human race.

Mark 2:17 “Jesus said to his disciples, I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentence.” He did not come to marry but to call all to repentence. He called the 12 disciples to teach them truths of the holy word and how to heal the sick and be hold in the time of persecution.

  92. Amy says:

Elton sounded like a senile foolish old man. He indeed insulted an ancient religion like Christainity. Much loving prayers will be directed Elton’s way this week, because he does not know who Jesus is. He insulted a very peaceful, lovable, holy, beloved and powerful being.

  93. wif says:

Amy, when you think of Jesus as a peaceful, lovable, holy, beloved and powerful being, do you really think that He would be insulted to be called gay?

  94. So Elton John pretty much got what he wanted. What’s he promoting this time?

  95. GatsbyGal says:

LOL @ these bigots posing as loving Christians who think being called gay is an insult.

And Maylea – are you serious when you say you don’t know who Elton John is? Are you a kid or something? Everyone knows Elton John.

  96. Emily says:

@nana, I never said God visited me. As I said in my post, I’m a pagan-that tends to mean that I don’t believe in big letter G God. If he visited me, I probably would believe in him.

“he does not have the right to… define any Biblical figures orientation when he has nothing concrete on which to base such an inflammatory statement.”

    But you do?

  97. DrM says:

McKenzie: Jesus WAS and still is annoying…all that self-righteous baloney has led to centuries of guilt, homophobia and self-righteousness…

Actually I don’t think that was Jesus fault at all, just like I don’t think he was the son of God either…he was just a guy speaking his ‘truth’ and a we’ve made a big deal out of it within organised religion ever since…most of the people I’ve met who go to church regularly are rather insufferable as well…go worry about your own spirituality and quit judging others on theirs or what you see as a lack thereof… oh btw all you haters? GAY is NOT an insult…being GAY is not a sin…being judgemental is.

@Gatsby-girl you crack me up 🙂

  98. annie says:

Praise, the Jesuits used to be men where they’re motto was “Ad mairem Dei glorian” Now, it’s all about politics and that marxist favorite, “social justice” and plus their schools are’nt as rigorous and challenging as they once were.

  99. Lem says:

these comments just keep getting better.

What always amazes me is the fundamentalist Christians ability to immediate overlook His teaching; when it doesn’t agree with their personal beliefs. Those who believe the most are most often the least tolerant and loving of thy neighbors. Also the most vocal to criticize those whom don’t believe.
Other religions don’t seem hampered by that thought process. You don’t hear others threatening death & damnation to those who don’t agree. I mean, no lateral movement. No room for interpretation? Really?

Also, please try to remember. To those who don’t believe. Jesus was just a man. God was a good cover for being a knocked up teenager. No one who doesn’t believe is insulting your God (or your Jesus as the case may be) they are simply discussing a historic figure.

If, as a Christian, you cannot see they way for others to speak their minds, discuss your beliefs, discuss their beliefs and have openness in your heart for those who believe differently, act differently and sex differently; then I’m pretty sure you need to go back to church and re-read your holy bible. You missed the point of all those teachings.

  100. Lem says:

@Emily: If he visited me, I probably would believe in him.
    AWESOME!!!

  101. Lem says:

    this is what EJ said

“I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. ”

so, if we take out those 3 little letters… do you still take issue with what he said??? hmmm why on earth are people so afraid of the word? GAY. not like it can ‘god forbid’ infect you. RELAX

  102. annie says:

Yep, people who attend church regularly are ALWAYS insufferable, where have I heard that before?

  103. Amy says:

To answer your question,Yes! To call our (Savior) gay is extremely insultive to the Name, Holiness and Intergrity of Jesus. You may not understand this because you don’nt know Him. True christains know that the name/intergrity of Jesus is the rock of christainity. We don’t speak His name in vain. However, I personally have forgiven elton for his blasphemy.

  104. wif says:

Amy, what makes you think that I don’t know Jesus? I am a true Christian, and the loving, compassionate Jesus that I know was a man who fought against oppressors and sought social justice. He was not a man to be affronted by being labelled. My point is that it’s patronizing to Jesus to be offended on His behalf; He can handle it.

  105. hellokitty says:

it’s funny how true christians dont ever say “that’s gay” or “you’re gay” or “youre a fa****” as a joke when all the non christians do. non christians make those mistaken jokes all the time yet they criticize chrisitans for professing their beliefs on the matter. There are a lot of christians who believe gay is a sin, just like stealing is a sin, murder is a sin. They know that all sin is equal and theyre not judging gay people in any way. or they would be judging themselves cause they commited equal amount of sin.
True christians try to build everyone up. they hlep out each other with their sins. they try to help gay people likewise. I know a lot of christians around me who have gay friends, invite them to church, and just simply form wonderful friendships.
I feel like a lot of people here who says gay is a sin, say it not in a hateful, judging way. They speak the truth of their beliefs.
there’s so many more non chrisitans who say more homophobic, joking remarks than christians who just try to say their beliefs.

  106. Emily says:

“I feel like a lot of people here who says gay is a sin, say it not in a hateful, judging way. They speak the truth of their beliefs.
there’s so many more non chrisitans who say more homophobic, joking remarks than christians who just try to say their beliefs.”

I’m sorry, but have you ever had a homophobe telling you you’re wrong, or evil, or going to hell? I have. And I don’t give a shit what their beliefs may or not be. It is hurtful and hateful whoever’s yelling it at you. And if their hatred stems from their religious beliefs, then how can you tell me I’m wrong to dislike that aspect of their religion?

  107. hellokitty says:

well, they’re not true christians then. people who are true followers of christ would never yell like that. And they would be the least of all people to be homophobic and try to isolate gay people. i guess you havent met that small group of christians who are doing what’s right. theres a lot of people out there who say they believe in Jesus when they dont. otherwise, their actions and words would be blameless and simply loving and kind. if they have HATRED that “stems from their religious beliefs” then clearly, they’re not christians, are they?

  108. hellokitty says:

btw im a devout christian. and i believe gay people can definitely go to heaven, IF they truly believe in Jesus. I know Im going to heaven, BECAUSE I believe in Jesus and i know him personally.
Christianity tends to gear towards “doing whats right” and passing all the holy tests to get to heaven. it’s not like that AT ALL.and if that’s how that seems, christians need a lot of reforming and learning to do to spread God’s kingdom.
I believe a man who believes in Jesus but kills his wife out of momentary anger and fury can go to heaven. He’s forgiven of all his sins. All because Jesus suffered for us.
It hurts me a lot too when people think that all of us are homophobic and that we point fingers at gay people. it really hurts me because I love them too. I have a close gay friend named cameron. He comes to church with me. there are no burden or discomfort for him when he’s there. That’s a true painting of what christianity is.

  109. kris says:

i agree with nana and tinkitaway. nana just said she feel offended and those fellows she believes shares same opinion because thats what she believes in and suddenly some people here call her deluded, etc etc. nana didnt even called these losers to agree with her. she said, they are purely different, and that is her point of view, then come this other people who give so much ass. their problem is soo big, they like to argue than just listen. they keep on twisting and twisting. let her express what she feels, if you do not agree then just say, ok and move on. i see two people here who always keep on minding others comments every now and then.

  110. BeeCee says:

@gatsbygirl: your dad is a centaur and your mom is made of cheese??!!!!!?! ……I wish my parents were that cool…

@daisyfly: your my new best friend….

@whomever: wasn’t Jesus married to Mary M.? …am I going to get backlash for saying that?

  111. ogechi says:

May God forgive Elton John for saying those things about our Lord and personal savor Jesus Christ.

  112. annie says:

ogechi, took the words right out of my mouth!

  113. Lway says:

    yeah – don’t hold your breath …
