    Blake been put on notice.

    • SamuelWhiskers says:

Oh come on, I know some people want everything to be about women catfighting with each other, but it’s clearly about Trump, not Blake.

  2. Bri says:

Such a beautiful, subtle FU to agent orange and his grotesque regime of incels and pick-me’s. Bravo Taylor, BRAVO 👏

  3. Mandragora says:

Bit hard to argue an artist isn’t ‘hot’ when even teasing part of a re-recorded song is news.

  4. Truthiness says:

Putting this song in a show about women losing their voice, their rights, and being reduced to wombs gives full throated fury to the landscape we’re living in. Taylor is throwing daggers and contrary to what Trump alleged it’s hot.

  5. L4Frimaire says:

Been watching the Handmaid’s Tale but it’s getting harder as the violence increases. Haven’t gotten to this episode yet. Overall it’s good but anxiety producing.

I’m watching it too it’s so well written and acted. This winter I decided to watch female driven shows. I picked a good time for handmaid’s tale because I segued right into the final season

Going in I must say I am not hugely familiar with Taylor’s library of work. That said, there’s a couple of her lyrics that grate on me. “look what you made me do” is what abusers say to their victims. I don’t like that something that powerfully hurts women especially, but children too, becomes popular song. It’s the same (for me) when I hear that guy singing “I lose control when you…..”. They seem like blame songs.
If her lyrics are empowering in some way and I’ve missed it, feel free to @ me (gently and lovingly, please).

    • TheHufflepuffLizLemon says:

      Hey Gail-

Not here to claim Taylor is perfect, just want to call out that reclaiming words/phrases may be helpful for some victims-every victim has their own journey and what helps me may not work for you. I hope that look what you made me do can be a statement of rage and a reclaiming of power for some in a face of an administration that wants to take away our vote, our agency, our sense of self, and who wants to undermine Taylor because she “looks” like she should be in their camp.

Separately, songs about losing control in a healthy, loving relationship where sex and passion are taking over the moment and it becomes almost feral because you desire each other? Here for it. Songs where someone is losing control and projecting their desires on a woman who is not seeking that behavior? That’s a rape culture apology medley, and lord knows there’s plenty of them out there. So mixed bag on “losing control” songs 🙂
