Adolescence’s Owen Cooper, 15, became the youngest male actor to win an Emmy last night. He gave one of the best speeches too, he seems like such a sweetheart. [Just Jared]

I haven’t watched Adolescence but I’ve seen clips from it. And I just found out that each episode was filmed in one take and if anyone messed up just a little bit, they had to start from the top and do it all over again.

Knowing that, and the fact that this was Owen’s first acting job ever, I’m truly blown away. It seems the win was well deserved.

I hope his family holds him close and keeps him grounded. And he has great mentors. He’s got a great future.

Adolescence was SO good and Cooper was amazing. The actor who played his dad was incredible too, I’m surprised the series didn’t get more nominations.

    • Snuffles says:

I’m pretty sure they got all the nominations a limited series could get and won them all as well. It was a clean sweep.

That kid is scary talented. Adolescence… you want to shake the life out of him and hug him all at the same time.

    • FAFO says:

I cannot think of a better way to describe this. Scary talented, indeed. I could not tear myself away. And the one shots?? F*cking Brilliant.
      A must watch.

  4. LRB says:

Lovely to see exceptional talent win – rather than ‘the person who should win’ – if that makes sense… no politics in this. For those who haven’t watched it…watch it… but it is not an easy , fun series it is hard hitting and extremely worrying.

So many people have watched “Adolescence”, but how many parents and white people (especially male) taking the messages this show wanted to convey to heart and do better themselves & by their kids? From the events happened in the USA & around the world after the show aired, l’m afraid the answer is not enough. That’s the sad truth.

    • SunnyDays says:

I said a very similar thing when they were winning all those awards.

    • LRB says:

Well amongst my friendship group ( mainly white, older women – many grandparents ) we have all ensured our children watch it. I have recommended to everyone with children… the story is frightening, and it is one us oldies probably didn’t know much about.

    • rano says:

Most kids are being raised by single mothers and have little to no meaningful contact with their fathers – something that works of media like Adolescence studiously avoids depicting – so in most cases guys doing better by their kids is impossible.

      • terra says:

I don’t know where you live, but here in the US about 20% of children don’t have a father or father figure living with them in the same household (which doesn’t mean they don’t have one in their lives at all, just that they don’t live with them), so it’s quite a stretch to say “most kids” don’t have a dad.

Someone that has never met their biological father, but absolutely had a “real” Dad despite that

Tbh first time hearing about this Series. It’s been trending after the win last night on SM. I watched the preview, It looks very disturbing(esp with the temperature in this country right now), but curious to watch it. The whole cast looks amazing.

I have mixed thoughts about the big donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of America and wish they had gone for an organization where that kind of money would really have an impact, or been specific as to where this money would go. I get it; they are National, not controversial, and do good work. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America national office is also incredibly well funded with hefty reserves (have some insight on this as a former national office staffer).
