Amanda Seyfried is kind-of an ungrateful snot

as51

Here is Amanda Seyfried’s spread in April’s Esquire Magazine – she’s one of their “Women We Love”. As for me, I don’t love Amanda. I don’t hate her either. I go back and forth between thinking she’s a cutie with a long career ahead of her, or she’s just a pretty moron who won’t be getting parts very much longer. I really don’t know. In LaineyGossip’s Oscar wrap-up, they mentioned that Amanda was kind a big fail at red carpet interviews. Apparently, when Ryan Seacrest asked why she was leaving Big Love, she told him “I wasn’t working as much as I wanted to, so…” So? You’re a working actress on an acclaimed show! Produced by Tom Hanks! You think she could manage to not sound so snotty?

I hate to say it, but Amanda didn’t come across very well in the short Esquire interview either. Of course, the dude writing about her was about to rub one out (seriously, read the whole piece), so maybe Amanda was creeped out:

Amanda on her diet: “”I’m on a raw-food diet,” she declares, raising her brows to make her eyes even bigger. “It’s intense. And sort of awful. Yesterday for lunch? Spinach. Just spinach. Spinach and some seeds.”

On getting her Australian shepherd puppy: “It’s so predictable. I just left him and I already want to run back and see him. Most of the time I just want to go home and throw the dog a stick. Can anything be more obvious than throwing a stick? I need to be needed. I understand that the need is never with the dog.”

On what kind of girl she is: “I would always tell somebody if they had sh-t on their face. Especially if it’s really feces. Well, I’m a BFF. I play a BFF. It’s what I do. I have an actual necklace from Jennifer’s Body that says BFF. That’s my role right there.”

On moving from Los Angeles to New York: “I sacrificed six years in L. A. I did my job out here. I made the contacts and did the work I had to do. But I came here at eighteen. I’m out of here at twenty-four, and I feel lucky it wasn’t longer.”

On photography: “I learned a long time ago that photographs are not theater. This is not acting. It’s pretending. I pretend I’m looking at a man who is looking right at me, a man who sees me as exceptionally clever and adventurous.”

[From Esquire]

Once again, could she try not to sound so snotty? “I sacrificed six years in L. A…” Really? Being a working actress in a sea of thousands of girls who would kill to have a fraction of your workload is a “sacrifice”?

The girl’s got a terrific figure though. I’ll give her that.

i don’t find her that pretty she has wierd shaped eyes and face

  2. hatsumomo says:

Thank God her character left Big Love, I couldnt stand her the moment I first watched it. I was hoping her exit would be a bit more dramatic though, like she gets caught kidnapping the methhead’s baby and sentenced to prison for the rest of her life! That would have been perfect! But yeah, hopefully alot of other people are already past her brief moment of the spotlight.

  3. Alexis says:

I like her new chin, I used to think she was really funny looking. I had no idea she was leaving big love. I guess I need to watch more tv.

  4. JJ says:

She doesn’t sound snotty to me. She just didn’t like L.A., but I do get why some would think that.

  5. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

She sounds funny and smart to me, LOVE the “especially if it’s real feces,” awesome.

It IS a sacrifice to live in LA paying dues for 6 years (unless you’re Heidi Montag or something) and she says she’s lucky it didn’t take longer, and she’s right.

She seems cool, I just hope she really has made it enough to leave LA behind her.

  6. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

She was hateful about her time on Big Love too. Do not like her anymore.

  7. Squirrel says:

Isn’t this the girl who actually acted worse than Pearce Brosnan sang in Mamma Mia?

  8. lucy2 says:

Hers was one of the few red carpet interviews I saw. She didn’t seem to know what to say, and I sort of got the impression that there was some bad blood between her and the show – I’m guessing as her film career took off, she either wanted bigger story lines or a bigger paycheck, and was given neither, so she left. With all the opportunities she has right now I can’t really blame her, but she should have worked out ahead of time how best to say that without sounding jerky. Same with talking about LA.

  9. jeannified says:

She’s a snot…She sort of grew on me on Big Love…then when I started hearing her talk and saw her pose during interviews, she quickly turned me off. She seems shallow. I predict a shorter film career than she thinks!

  10. d says:

LA/Hollywood seems to be a really hard town and hard on people. Not surprised that someone wouldn’t be quite so chirpy about it.

  11. T says:

Here is an interview where she discusses her Big Love depart in detail. I’m sure red carpet interviews make everyone tense and uneasy…it’s live and in front of millions of people…

  12. Maritza says:

Nothing she said sounded snotty to me. She is really very beautiful, I’ve saw her in “Mama Mia” and “Jennifer’s Body” and I think she has a great future doing movies instead of television shows. I like her.

  13. heb says:

While I love Chloe, I do agree that AManda IS hugely ungrateful!!!! What a tude!!

  14. ! says:

I think you’re making something out of nothing.

  15. blah says:

If your friend told you they were leaving their job at the Gap because they weren’t getting enough hours, would you call them ungrateful?

  16. Relli says:

Have you ever spent a significant amount of time in LA?

  17. T says:

obviously the largest industry convention in the country doesn’t think so….

Amanda Seyfried tapped for ShoWest nod

Rising young starlet Amanda Seyfried has been named Showest’s Breakthrough Female Star of the Year, a lofty honor from the country’s largest convention of theater owners. Past winners (of a slightly differently titled award) have included future megastars Nicole Kidman (1992), Cameron Diaz (1996), and Naomi Watts (2002). They’ve also included Robin Givens (1991), Tia Carrere (1994), and Shannon Elizabeth (2001).

  18. KatC says:

I don’t think she sounds at all ungrateful, lots of actors resent LA and I think it’s only gotten worse as the paparazzi become more outlandish. She’s not an excellent actess but there’s no denying she’s stunningly and naturally beautiful and has a great voice. It seems more like the author really likes the show Big Love and is maybe a little sensitive to any implied criticism.

  19. Kate says:

I’m not seeing how she seems snotty to anyone.. I wouldn’t want to live in LA for 6 months. Maybe the whole “Hollywood” thing just isn’t her scene, but she knew that’s what she had to do to get the job she loves (acting).

  20. Trillion says:

Maybe she’s snotty because all she had for lunch was raw spinach and some seeds.

  21. Catherine says:

I don’t find her hateful, I just find her answers odd. I can take her or leave her but the lace bodysuit has to go. I don’t care how hot you are, they look horrible on anyone.

  22. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

“If your friend told you they were leaving their job at the Gap because they weren’t getting enough hours, would you call them ungrateful?”

There is a huge difference btwn hours at the Gap and a show that got your face on tv.

  23. Novaraen says:

Another snotty entitled brat…along the lines of Hayden P. Just go away Amanda….the more you talk, the more people hate you.

  24. Snarf says:

Eating disorder. (Spinich and seeds for lunch?)

  25. lexlie says:

i happen to think she is really grateful that she got a big break (and big break out of la). Unlike others that are trapped there for life, she could get out after 6 years. might not just be the work, might have been the lifestyle, the people, the colleagues. i agree with katc, someone’s just too sensitive =___+

  26. mslewis says:

I don’t think she sounds snotty at all. She sounds like all the other very young actresses who really have nothing to say but want to sound “interesting” in interviews. Besides, what a person actually says sometimes gets lost when it’s written down.

But then, I could be wrong. I don’t even know who this girl is and I’ve never seen her in anything. So just ignore what I said. HA!!

  27. snapdragon says:

the only person who can pull off a black lace bodysuit is prince.

  28. Kim says:

Who in the world is she? Ive never seen or heard of her and IM not out of loop. One of those 1 show wonder actresseswe wont see again when show is over i guess.

  29. Kim says:

Eating raw doesnt mean you have to starve yourself which she obviously is if she only had Spinach and seeds for an entire day. Another anorexic, untalented starlet whose star will fade very quickly.

  30. Bella Bella says:

Snarf, don’t forget the half a Lexapro and birth control chaser. Lunch of Champions!

  31. dizzybenny says:

    LMAO @ Trillion
Post of the day right there!

  32. Karen says:

I personally love her. You have to cut her a little slack, the guy interviewing her was creepy, and as far as “Big Love” goes, her part was really minor. If she was getting movie roles it makes sense she would leave the show.

  33. gee_gee says:

Eh. Lord knows we’ve all heard worse. I’m giving her a pass, mainly because I don’t care.

  34. bellaluna says:

Her face is weird. She has wonky eyes or something, and it just makes her face unbalanced. I personally don’t care for her, or anyone else who claims to have “done their time” and therefore deserves what they have. Unless, of course, that person is a doctor or surgeon or teacher or in the military; in their case, it’s deserved. Fame is fickle and fleeting; it should be appreciated while you have it. Especially when you have a wonky eye.

  35. moo says:

She’s a mean girl. What did you expect?

The line about “the dog” though is pretty stupid. “I understand that the need is never with the dog.” Say, huh?

  36. Pia says:

I watched that red carpet interview with Ryan and she didn’t seem ungrateful, she seemed uncomfortable.

  37. TG says:

Kaiser I now remember why I love this site – you are so funny. I love your comment about the dude writing about her was about to rub one out. I am still cracking up. This is good observations.

  38. Kitten says:

I don’t blame this girl at all for disliking LA. I think LA is pretty horrible. Cali, on the other hand, is gorgeous. Anyway, I think she seems like a decent chick and I agree with other posters who think this post is a bit sensationalistic..

  39. mike says:

There’s nothing for her to be grateful to HBO. HBO, the cable network on which Big Love airs, is notorious for skimping on salaries of its stars, except for few exceptions like Gandolfino in Sopranos.

HBO produces great shows, but it frequently saves money by shortchanging its stars. Working for HBO is kinda like an apprenticeship: Get your face known while getting exploited like slave labor, get the hell out for the better pasture when you can.

The Gap analogy is perfect. Why work at Gap when you can work for Harley Davidson? (FYI, Harley pampers its employees, unlike 99.9% of most businesses.)

  40. snowball says:

I hadn’t seen Dakota Fanning in a while, and when I saw the trailer for Remember Me, I thought Amanda was Dakota. Same bulging eyeballs.

  41. Danny B says:

Ugggh I am so glad her and her big eyed self are living the show she was Snotty to the T on show and who would have thought she is just that snotty in real life!! her career will eventually fade and she will marry somebody rich..I hope the kids get the dads eyes cause if they don’t they are gonna be catching small prey before they walk!!

  42. Poodlemom says:

I loved her character on Big Love…and I think she is beautiful. I think she will have a long career.

  43. anon says:

i don’t think she sounds at all snotty, just honest- she didn’t like LA, how many of us really would.

  44. Linda says:

She has big alien eyes. I remember her from All My Children. She’s lucky to have been on an acclaimed show such as “Big Love”. She won’t last that long. Her acting ability in motion pictures is overrated. Her biggest mistake is leaving “Big Love”.

  45. viper says:

what is it about living in LA that means paying dues? What teh hell does that mean?

  46. bellaluna says:

@ Viper – I don’t know where you live, but LA is a nasty place. My dad was stationed at El Toro when I was little, and then he was transferred to Camp Pendleton. On our return trip from visiting my grandmother in Orange County, when we hit just south of the immigration checkpoint on the I-5, you could look back and actually SEE the smog hanging in the air in the sky. Trips to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, and anywhere else up there require inhalers for your asthma, eye drops, and allergy pills. My husband and I would rather eat glass than live there. Of course, San Diego County isn’t much better now, either.

  47. CB Rawks says:

“The line about “the dog” though is pretty stupid. “I understand that the need is never with the dog.” Say, huh?”

Yeah! That’s not true anyway. Dogs love being with people and having constant company.
She might be thinking of chia pets.

  48. Bek says:

Isn’t she doing some racy movie with Liam Neeson? Frankly, I don’t think she sounds snotty at all. Let’s see: big-time movie offers or small, underpaid part on a tv show…which one which one?!?! Is it that bad to leave a show? She is alien looking, but in a really good way to me. She’s gorgeous.

  49. mollination says:

Meh…doesn’t bother me. The big love comment was unprofessional but the interview sounded straight-forward.

  50. Whiskey says:

FOR WHAT AND TO WHOM IS SHE SUPPOSED TO BE “GRATEFUL”?

Is she supposed to be “grateful” to us as consumers for paying attention to her? But we will pay attention to anyone! Our attention is so cheap.

Did someone give her a huge gift of monetary or emotional value that we as readers are unaware of?

I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE DESCRIBE THIS PERSON AS “UNGRATEFUL.”

  51. Dee says:

I live in L.A. It’s a brutal town for women, especially actresses. (I’m not an actress, but I have worked in the industry.) What she’s saying about it is perfectly reasonable.

Why are we calling her ungrateful about the L.A. comment when she said she feels “lucky it wasn’t longer.”

  52. IcyNDicy says:

I like her! I mean hell, she’s already acted in a movie with Meryl Streep. Not even Hillary Swank has done that and she has two Oscars.

  53. Lily says:

I agree that she sounds honest, not snotty. I’ve never seen Big Love, but if she had a supporting role and wanted a bigger role, and there were other projects she was more interested in, so what?

I kind of like that she admitted what she really ate for lunch. I’d rather hear an honest answer than a starlet claiming to have a super-fast metabolism when she’s actually eating just what Amanda ate. (As long as Amanda doesn’t really have an eating disorder, I mean!)

  54. Cletus says:

I love this girl, I don’t care if she really IS snotty. I love her face… she looks like an evil mermaid to me. I don’t know why.

  55. Robert says:

Call me crazy but I think she’s hotter than Megan Fox.

  56. lisa says:

Welcome to the new Hollywood. There are no more STARS.. well a few.. and then we are getting these twenty somethings or teens that made 1 or 2 movies and think they are the shit.. because they grace the cover of a mag. Because they get their pictures taken. hmmm..
Fame is what it is.. It last until the next twenty something or tween comes along to take your place. and judging by all the dumb reality shows and stupid movies that will be next week..

Give me the real STARS the ones that have lasted 15 or 20 years. Yep that to me is a STAR.. and not many left around.. She is what a lot of people are i hollywood.. her head is a bit too big. and she has not done anything as of yet Talent wise that is lasting.. so she speaks and puts her foot in her mouth.

  57. johndoe says:

I read the whole article, I think she must have been creeped out.

Is the writer, Tom Chiarella some kind of Dirty Uncle or what?

  58. j. ferber says:

Yeah, she sounds fine to me, too. I think she played a vacuous tag-along to Rachel McAdams’ character in Mean Girls. She was really funny. She’s a working actress, which means she has to do what’s best for her career. No one would question this one bit if it were a male, but females are supposed to feel gratitude, loyalty, emotional connections, etc. Nothing wrong with these qualities (in fact, there’s a lot right with them), but in making career decisions, you have to do what’s best for you. This makes people uncomfortable, since it makes people think these women are cutthroat, calculating, selfish, etc., far from the nurturing beings every woman is supposed to be at all times, in professional as well as domestic situations. This places an unfair burden on women in the workplace. No one expects men to be nice and nurturing and good and self-sacrificing, etc. in the workplace. End of sermon.

  59. MJ says:

She sounds reasonable, not snotty (and believe me, I WAS snotty at 24 y.o.).

Would you prefer she turn down movie offers for a bit part in a show most people haven’t seen???

  60. Di says:

My god, you sound like my best friends Mom growing up. She was always declaring girls to be “snotty” or “bratty”. She doesn’t seem so bad to me, you really need to come up with more interesting things to post.

  61. tinat says:

She doesn’t sound snotty…she sounds HONEST, lol.

I know, actresses so rarely actually say what they feel that it’s hard to recognise but I’m pretty sure it’s just honest. She prefers NY to LA and she’s young and wants to work, seems pretty normal to me.

  62. She sounded fine. I actually found her answers rather funny.
