Amanda Seyfried is kind-of an ungrateful snot

as51

Here is Amanda Seyfried’s spread in April’s Esquire Magazine - she’s one of their “Women We Love”. As for me, I don’t love Amanda. I don’t hate her either. I go back and forth between thinking she’s a cutie with a long career ahead of her, or she’s just a pretty moron who won’t be getting parts very much longer. I really don’t know. In LaineyGossip’s Oscar wrap-up, they mentioned that Amanda was kind a big fail at red carpet interviews. Apparently, when Ryan Seacrest asked why she was leaving Big Love, she told him “I wasn’t working as much as I wanted to, so…” So? You’re a working actress on an acclaimed show! Produced by Tom Hanks! You think she could manage to not sound so snotty?

I hate to say it, but Amanda didn’t come across very well in the short Esquire interview either. Of course, the dude writing about her was about to rub one out (seriously, read the whole piece), so maybe Amanda was creeped out:

Amanda on her diet: “”I’m on a raw-food diet,” she declares, raising her brows to make her eyes even bigger. “It’s intense. And sort of awful. Yesterday for lunch? Spinach. Just spinach. Spinach and some seeds.”

On getting her Australian shepherd puppy: “It’s so predictable. I just left him and I already want to run back and see him. Most of the time I just want to go home and throw the dog a stick. Can anything be more obvious than throwing a stick? I need to be needed. I understand that the need is never with the dog.”

On what kind of girl she is: “I would always tell somebody if they had sh-t on their face. Especially if it’s really feces. Well, I’m a BFF. I play a BFF. It’s what I do. I have an actual necklace from Jennifer’s Body that says BFF. That’s my role right there.”

On moving from Los Angeles to New York: “I sacrificed six years in L. A. I did my job out here. I made the contacts and did the work I had to do. But I came here at eighteen. I’m out of here at twenty-four, and I feel lucky it wasn’t longer.”

On photography: “I learned a long time ago that photographs are not theater. This is not acting. It’s pretending. I pretend I’m looking at a man who is looking right at me, a man who sees me as exceptionally clever and adventurous.”

[From Esquire]

Once again, could she try not to sound so snotty? “I sacrificed six years in L. A…” Really? Being a working actress in a sea of thousands of girls who would kill to have a fraction of your workload is a “sacrifice”?

The girl’s got a terrific figure though. I’ll give her that.

Thank God her character left Big Love, I couldnt stand her the moment I first watched it. I was hoping her exit would be a bit more dramatic though, like she gets caught kidnapping the methhead’s baby and sentenced to prison for the rest of her life! That would have been perfect! But yeah, hopefully alot of other people are already past her brief moment of the spotlight.

She sounds funny and smart to me, LOVE the “especially if it’s real feces,” awesome.

It IS a sacrifice to live in LA paying dues for 6 years (unless you’re Heidi Montag or something) and she says she’s lucky it didn’t take longer, and she’s right.

She seems cool, I just hope she really has made it enough to leave LA behind her.

Hers was one of the few red carpet interviews I saw. She didn’t seem to know what to say, and I sort of got the impression that there was some bad blood between her and the show – I’m guessing as her film career took off, she either wanted bigger story lines or a bigger paycheck, and was given neither, so she left. With all the opportunities she has right now I can’t really blame her, but she should have worked out ahead of time how best to say that without sounding jerky. Same with talking about LA.

She’s a snot…She sort of grew on me on Big Love…then when I started hearing her talk and saw her pose during interviews, she quickly turned me off. She seems shallow. I predict a shorter film career than she thinks!

obviously the largest industry convention in the country doesn’t think so….

Amanda Seyfried tapped for ShoWest nod

Rising young starlet Amanda Seyfried has been named Showest’s Breakthrough Female Star of the Year, a lofty honor from the country’s largest convention of theater owners. Past winners (of a slightly differently titled award) have included future megastars Nicole Kidman (1992), Cameron Diaz (1996), and Naomi Watts (2002). They’ve also included Robin Givens (1991), Tia Carrere (1994), and Shannon Elizabeth (2001).

  18. KatC says:

I don’t think she sounds at all ungrateful, lots of actors resent LA and I think it’s only gotten worse as the paparazzi become more outlandish. She’s not an excellent actess but there’s no denying she’s stunningly and naturally beautiful and has a great voice. It seems more like the author really likes the show Big Love and is maybe a little sensitive to any implied criticism.

I’m not seeing how she seems snotty to anyone.. I wouldn’t want to live in LA for 6 months. Maybe the whole “Hollywood” thing just isn’t her scene, but she knew that’s what she had to do to get the job she loves (acting).

i happen to think she is really grateful that she got a big break (and big break out of la). I don’t think she sounds snotty at all. She sounds like all the other very young actresses who really have nothing to say but want to sound “interesting” in interviews. Besides, what a person actually says sometimes gets lost when it’s written down.

Her face is weird. She has wonky eyes or something, and it just makes her face unbalanced. I personally don’t care for her, or anyone else who claims to have “done their time” and therefore deserves what they have. Unless, of course, that person is a doctor or surgeon or teacher or in the military; in their case, it’s deserved. Fame is fickle and fleeting; it should be appreciated while you have it. Especially when you have a wonky eye.

  39. mike says:

There’s nothing for her to be grateful to HBO. HBO, the cable network on which Big Love airs, is notorious for skimping on salaries of its stars, except for few exceptions like Gandolfino in Sopranos.

HBO produces great shows, but it frequently saves money by shortchanging its stars. Working for HBO is kinda like an apprenticeship: Get your face known while getting exploited like slave labor, get the hell out for the better pasture when you can.

The Gap analogy is perfect. Why work at Gap when you can work for Harley Davidson? (FYI, Harley pampers its employees, unlike 99.9% of most businesses.)

@ Viper – I don’t know where you live, but LA is a nasty place. My dad was stationed at El Toro when I was little, and then he was transferred to Camp Pendleton. On our return trip from visiting my grandmother in Orange County, when we hit just south of the immigration checkpoint on the I-5, you could look back and actually SEE the smog hanging in the air in the sky. Trips to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, and anywhere else up there require inhalers for your asthma, eye drops, and allergy pills. My husband and I would rather eat glass than live there. Of course, San Diego County isn’t much better now, either.

Fame is what it is.. It last until the next twenty something or tween comes along to take your place. and judging by all the dumb reality shows and stupid movies that will be next week..

Give me the real STARS the ones that have lasted 15 or 20 years. Yep that to me is a STAR.. and not many left around.. She is what a lot of people are i hollywood.. her head is a bit too big. and she has not done anything as of yet Talent wise that is lasting.. so she speaks and puts her foot in her mouth.

Yeah, she sounds fine to me, too. I think she played a vacuous tag-along to Rachel McAdams’ character in Mean Girls. She was really funny. She’s a working actress, which means she has to do what’s best for her career. No one would question this one bit if it were a male, but females are supposed to feel gratitude, loyalty, emotional connections, etc. Nothing wrong with these qualities (in fact, there’s a lot right with them), but in making career decisions, you have to do what’s best for you. This makes people uncomfortable, since it makes people think these women are cutthroat, calculating, selfish, etc., far from the nurturing beings every woman is supposed to be at all times, in professional as well as domestic situations. This places an unfair burden on women in the workplace. No one expects men to be nice and nurturing and good and self-sacrificing, etc. in the workplace. End of sermon.
