This is Mischa Barton at Sunday’s Make-a-Wish Foundation’s red carpet in LA. It was… not a good appearance for Mischa. Look at her face. Does she look 24 years old? Or does she look more like 44? A hard 44, too. LaineyGossip points out: “We are obviously far from Season 2 of The OC but Mischa clearly can’t stop clinging to the Young Hollywood It Girl reputation that has long since been taken away from her. Actually no. She pissed it away herself, didn’t she? She did. And now what’s left is the stank of has-been that wafts around her. There’s some has-been settling in around her eyes too, tugging away at the edges of a once fresh, one beautiful face, now irreversibly marked by hard living and irresponsible decision making.”
More proof? Let me ask you this – just how broke is Mischa Barton? Very. So broke that she didn’t have the money to buy a tub of cooked pasta at a grocery store. So broke that two of her credit cards got declined, and she didn’t have any cash on her. So broke that even Lindsay Lohan is like, “Bitch, get yourself together.” Radar reports this sad/weird little tale as if it is an eyewitness account. It might be:
Mischa Barton was so hungry when she went grocery shopping on Monday night that she dipped into the groceries she was waiting in line to purchase and started eating some cooked pasta.
RadarOnline.com was there and watched Mischa and her hungry friend with amusement. But things took at bad turn when the former O.C. star went to pay for the already-eaten item and her credit card was declined! Uh oh. So she tried another card and that was declined too.
It all happened at Whole Foods on Fairfax and Crescent Heights and we watched as Mischa searched her purse for cash. No cash!
We always wondered what would happen in a situation like this. But Mischa’s friend quickly bailed her out, taking out his wallet and paying for their groceries. Poor Mischa looked upset and ducked her head.
Don’t feel bad Mischa — we would have paid for you but we had just enough money on us to pay for our groceries!

I can’t even imagine. The only faux pas I’ve ever made like that is trying to pay with my check card when it’s someplace that’s cash only. But I had money in my checking account, for goodness sake. I wasn’t just like, “Try these credit cards, even though I haven’t paid the bills in years.” Meanwhile, Mischa is selling her big “starter mansion” that she bought in 2005, back when she was relevant. But don’t worry – she’s marked it up $2 million from what she paid. She must have upgraded the abode with a classy crackden/family room.
Do you notice something about the Mischa Barton situation – it’s a lot like the Lindsay situation, isn’t it? It’s like you don’t really feel bad for her. I mean, this is a girl with issues, with problems, but I’m pretty sure a lot of it is her own doing, her own sense of entitlement, her own biting of the hand that fed her. Did anyone catch her appearance on Law & Order: SVU a few weeks ago? It was terrible. She might have been the worst guest star ever. Horrible, cheesy New York accent, stilted, wooden acting and she looked like hell. I mean, I get that she was playing an abused hooker. But I don’t think the makeup people were trying to get her to look that bad.

Yeah, I’ve been broke as hell before and had to put food back in the store, which is why you don’t start eating the food until you’ve PAID for it! I just can’t feel too bad for her, since she had money but likely pissed it away on frivolous nonsense (8 MILLION dollar house is a good example). There are lots of people in the same situation who will never make even half the money Mischa’s made, so I’ll save my sympathy for them, not for yet another idiot celebtard who pissed it all away. It’s not like there’s not a billion examples of this happening to other celebs….so no excuses.

I have been so broke a few years back that I have had to put things back on the shelf like stormy cloud and shop with a calculator to make sure I didn’t go over my allowance.
She should just go and apply for a job somewhere like a normal person would instead of trying to ride off her ever decreasing fame.

Sadly this same scenario has happened to millions of people.
Living above your means and blowing all of your money on drugs is never a good combination.
She does seem to be getting roles though, so at least she’s trying.not like a certain ‘Milkaholic’ we know.

I don’t get why people hate on her so much. I actually kinda like her. Who the hell hasn’t accidentally gotten declined? It happens. It doesn’t mean you’re broke, it just means that you’ve spent up to your limit for that month. You pay it off and it goes back to zero the next month.
And who the hell doesn’t get wasted occasionally?
Hell, she’s good looking, gets decent jobs in a town known for destroying people and she still stays there despite the constant media abuse. She deserves a lot of praise for doing what she does.

She’s got wrinkles under her eyes and she’s not even 25. She was such a talented actress when she was a child (pre-OC), and seemingly didn’t run into the issues that child actors typically do when attempting to transition to adult roles. It’s sad to see someone who had the opportunity to succeed piss it all away.

SVU will get better next season. I’ve convinced. They wrote this show season to air at 9 not 10 and had to be more mindful of the content because kiddies might be around. It has to get better-it just has too!!!!
and I’ve never been a Mischa fan. Not ever, but it’s sad. She and LiLo need Pappa Spears to look out for them, as I always say-look what he did for Britney, he could literally make a fortune taking care of these celebs who can’t take care of themselves.

I can’t feel too bad for her because she had opportunities (and paychecks) most of the world could only dream of.
She had a starring role in a TV show and quit. She’s had numerous movie roles and tv guest spots but can’t seem to get her act together when working. She’s had modeling and endorsement deals.
Strikes me as someone who lived well beyond their means, and enjoyed partying much more than working.

She’s inexplicable. Her life, that is. She doesn’t do anything in the entertainment industry, and hasn’t for years, and yet she still gets talked about.
She’s exactly like Lilo, except Mischa has recently discovered bathing.

I might be the only one, but I don’t think her face looks THAT bad, especially considering how she’s probably been taking care of herself for the last 6 years. Yeah, she has a couple wrinkles under her eyes, but I know that sometimes if I’m stressed or don’t get enough sleep I have a couple very fine lines under my eyes that tend to pop out, and I’m 29 and with much better cared-for facial skin than her.
That said, she has a hard set in look to her eyes now…probably just from living in Hollywood for too long.

You ASSume that all of us want to live in a mansion and pursue the materialistic lifestyle. I cannot speak for others here, but I am not jealous of ANYTHING that ANY of these celebtards have. Having a big house and fancy cars does not make you better than anyone else, and I am always saddened to see people buy into that mindset. Isn’t that what got us where we are right now, in this recession/depression, people trying to “keep up with the Joneses”? I am much happier in my small house, with my loving husband, than I could ever be in that mansion. Material things and money cannot and never will fill the void in people’s lives, and the sooner we realize that, the better off we’ll ALL be.

I don’t know where your hatred for Mischa Barton stems from, but let me say this. She looks young and beautiful in these pics. You introduce the story of her extremely common credit card occurrence as a “sad/weird little tale”. I think that your story itself is sad. And, as far as her being “broke” is concerned, that’s ridiculous! She has millions. Instead of reporting on her charity work at the Make-A-Wish Foundation this week, you ridicule her. She wasn’t fired from The O.C. They wouldn’t fire the person who was the main reason the show was a huge success. Many surveys showed that Mischa was the main draw to the show. She quit because the writing and the direction was failing. And, don’t pity her. Pity the jealous Mischa bashers.

meeshhead, I love how you know she has millions. She may have spent millions but chances are she doesn’t have a ton left. She hasn’t really worked and the jobs she had aren’t paying her near what she was earning on The OC, mainly because they were low budget or as a guest star.
And she didn’t quit the show. If you have a contract, you can’t quit. If she quit, she would have been sued and she wouldn’t have been able to work for the remaining length of her contract. She may not have been technically fired from the show, but her contract wasn’t picked up after her character was killed off.
I pity you because you can’t see how she is basically falling apart in front of you. I guess a drunk Mischa at SXSW isn’t true (but it was fun to see!)

I can’t believe that you really think Mischa couldn’t afford to buy food at the market.
And, the producers knew that she wasn’t happy with The O.C. late in the 3rd season. No producer in their right mind would want a disgruntled actor on the set. They let her out of her contract. Then the show died shortly after she left.
At 24, she’s not falling apart. Hollywood is a bumpy road. She’s extremely popular, and the paps follow her all over the world.

There are numerous reports from different sources of Mischa wasted, and in some, crying at the SXSW. These are random sightings from different people for two nights in a row now. If no one stages an intervention, it’s likely there will be another “incident” involving Mischa soon.
Paps follow her for the same reason they still follow Lindsay Lohan, even though Lindsay has no real acting job. Because it’s like following a trainwreck.
