Malin Ackerman is having a huge year thanks to Netflix’s messy drama, The Hunting Wives. Mr. Rosie and I were a little late to the party, but ended up binging it over the course of a few nights a month or so ago. No spoilers, but it was exactly the addicting trainwreck we were promised. And yes, I totally called the killer by episode four or five. (*Pats self on back.*)
Malin recently popped up at Variety’s Power of Women event, which honors the accomplishments of five female celebrities “whose actions and voices inspire crucial change.” This year’s honorees were Wanda Sykes, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kate Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, and Sydney Sweeney. While talking to People on the red carpet, Malin, who is 47, spoke about the wisdom and empowerment that has come with age, particularly this current decade in her life. Her 40s have made her realize she can set boundaries and stand in her “own power.”
“Being in my 40s makes me feel powerful, you know? Life lessons [and] wisdom that only comes with years of experience,” [Ackerman] says.
She added that getting older has also helped her overcome her past “people-pleaser” tendencies.
“Growing up, I was such a people pleaser and said yes to many, many things and didn’t know how to set boundaries, and I think setting boundaries and standing in my own power and knowing that I’m worth it has really been a great lesson,” she explains.
The Hunting Wives star went on to reveal one of her biggest pieces of advice to other women: Support one another.
“Support your fellow ladies, because if you do we can rule the whole freaking world — so you know, be an ally,” she says.
She also said she’s learned that “the people you surround yourself with” can have a tremendously positive impact on your self confidence.
I love hearing women speak out about all of the positive things that come with aging, and it’s lovely to hear that Malin is feeling great. I definitely get what she means when she talks about that feeling of self-confidence that comes with age. For me, it was more of an acknowledgement of self-acceptance, which allowed me to feel more comfortable in my own skin. I still have “people-pleaser” tendencies, but I’m way better about saying no or letting something go than I used to be. I also appreciate her message that women need to support other women. It reminds me of what Maya Rudolph told Kylie Kelce a few weeks ago about why the females on her SNL cast were so good: they realized that they were stronger together than trying to compete against one another.
Malin’s orange dress at the Power of Women event was gorgeous.

Glad to see that Wanda Sykes received recognition at the event. I absolutely adore her sense of humor.
