Rihanna wore a hilariously bad Balenciaga ensemble at the Gotham Awards

The Gotham Awards were held last night in New York, and there was a great turnout. People are ready for this awards season, myself included. It feels like a weird year and I’m looking forward to seeing these early awards shows begin to cull down the lists and highlight which actors and films are the frontrunners. It definitely looks like Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is the front-runner (right now) for the big awards, Best Picture and Best Director. PTA won the Gotham Award for picture, but he lost the directing award to Jafar Panahi (who won several other awards). You can see the full winners list here.

Fashion notes from the Gotham Awards: Rihanna’s bulky Balenciaga is not getting high marks, but I laughed out loud at her hilarious pink feathered cloche hat. Teyana Taylor wore Chanel, and she continues to be one of the best-dressed women of the year. Hilaria Baldwin and Alec Baldwin were in attendance, and Hilaria had her new bolt-ons jacked to high heaven. Chase Infiniti (star of OBAA) wore Louis Vuitton (I don’t care for that dress, but I’m looking forward to seeing more of her). Elle Fanning was one of the best-dressed women in Ralph Lauren – she is absolutely killing it this year. Tessa Thompson also looked amazing.

I’m also adding a pic of Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster. They’ve been attending more events together, slowly rolling out their relationship while still trying to maintain Hugh’s appeal among middle America. Is it working? I winced when I saw these pics. Poor Deb.

OOF…Hilaria is hilarious, not in a good way.

I’ve got vintage Barbies with more natural looking breasts.

You mean they’re fake?! I thought that’s how all moms of 7 look…ACTUALLY, I’m torn… They look ridiculous, but if the woman has had at least 7 pregnancies, part of me thinks: whatever makes her happy looking in the mirror!

      • Isabella says:

i just wanted her to get better work.

      • mightymolly says:

ITA that a mom of 7 should do what makes her feel good, but those bolt-ons look uncomfortable and scream budget work. I find the whole thing kinda baffling, TBH.

Oh, dear. Hilaria. Those implants don’t look right.

Teyana Taylor looks fab. Those shoes!

Sutton Foster is wearing what a Hamptons matron would wear.

  3. Jan says:

    I like Rihanna’s dress, it’s fun.

  4. Nicole says:

Hilaria’s boobies look uncomfortable. Everyone looks lovely. My guess is Riri wanted something remotely comfortable given that she recently had baby. I wouldn’t want anything touching my waistline either. I look forward to the award season looks.

    • Betsy says:

I like Hilaria but she is simply too old for that dress.

      • mightymolly says:

Genuinely curious: What do you like about Hilaria? That’s not a common sentiment, so I’m really interested.

      • Betsy says:

As I said above, I live in the Hamptons, pretty close to Hilaria and Alec. The first time I met Hilaria I was all ready to despise her, but unlike her public persona, she is very smart, fun and nice. Sorry? I genuinely like her. She needs better PR.

And yet that looks like a very Rhianna dress to wear so I’m not mad at it. Tessa Thompson looked good in the silver.

  6. ORLY says:

Rihanna went for extreme comfort in with her recent post-baby bod. A Different colour would have worked better.

    • Yup, Me says:

I wonder if the color is a celebration that her post baby bod is due to her brand new baby girl?

      • Yup, Me says:

Also, the dress and hat don’t look good and yet, there are photos of Riri inside the event where she is serving and she looks stunning. It reminds me of that video from a few years back where they were saying Rihanna decides when something is fashion.

  7. Eurydice says:

The problem with Rhianna’s outfit is that it’s custom. On the runway, the dress was a simple strapless column with a bubble at the bottom and the fabric was light weight and kind of billowy. I don’t know how it ended up being this heavy sack with armholes and ridiculous train.

  8. Veronica S. says:

I actually really like Teyana Taylor’s outfit. It’s the most “fashion” of them for me, unique and layered. I think the only thing I don’t like is the shoes, though I can see the concept in the patterning. They should have gone with a pointy toe. I don’t know why they keep trying to make fetch happen with those high cut heels.

Silver dress is gorgeous. Tessa Thompson fits like a glove.

Hilaria was clearly eager to show off that new boob job.

Unexpected miss from Rihanna. It wasn’t great on the runway, either, but it was actually better styled there. It’s a sack dress, but it needed to be simple.

  9. Amy Bee says:

Hilary Baldwin…that’s all I will say.

  10. M says:

I don’t like any of these actually. Elle’s is so boring, Tessa’s reminds me of Jiffy Pop, and the rest are ugly.

  11. Kirsten says:

I like everything except for Rihanna’s and Hilaria’s.

Also, Sutton and Hugh don’t look like they go together. They look more like brother and sister? If there’s chemistry, it doesn’t translate to photos.

  12. Sue says:

I can’t imagine how Hilaria was comfortable walking around in that dress. I would put money down that a nip slip happened….probably more than once.

  13. Celina says:

    Damn. Those tiddies look uncomfortable.

  14. Chaine says:

    What in the Strawberry Shortcake?

  15. Mee says:

Tessa looks great! And Hedda was really good. I hope she gets some nominations
