Jessica Simpson is supposed to be working on her non-anticipated country album, but instead of showing up at the studio she’s been on vacation with Tony Romo and hasn’t put in much face time with annoyed record executives who are counting on her.

“Jess has been everywhere from Mexico to Texas to Hawaii with Tony, but she’s neglecting one key locale - the Nashville recording studio where she should be finishing her first country album,” divulged a music industry insider.

“These days the chief of Jess’ record label has had a hard time even getting her on the phone. Joe Galante, the head of Sony BMG Nashville, is furious, and unless Jess straightens up and fast, they’re considering cutting her loose. They’re tired of unreturned phone calls and unfulfilled promises.”

The Enquirer notes that Jessica and her new love Tony Romo were in Mexico on January 4, which was the trip where the quarterback was criticized for not focusing on his game ahead of the Superbowl. His team the Dallas Cowboys failed to qualify for in the playoffs after that vacation. Then they went to a resort in Palm Springs on January 26, and then spent a week in Hawaii on February 4.

They claim to have a source that says “[Her] handlers have urged her to sign up for acting lessons, but she refuses,” and that “Her career is in freefall - and having her record label drop her would be the ultimate wake up call.”

Simpson sorely needs a music career to fall back on now that her acting career is failing miserably. Her last film, Blonde Ambition, was a flop in the US but somehow managed to take in about $200k in the Ukraine. She has another film coming out eventually, Major Movie Star, but with Jessica at the helm that’s expected to tank too. Simpson has two lawsuits pending for breach of contract with different companies she signed on to endorse and then backed out or forgot about. There’s always reality television to fall back on if she can’t be bothered to show up at the studio. That way, the cameras will follow her and she doesn’t have to worry about keeping appointments. It seems she’s thought of that already, and has something in the works with CMT. While her rep denies it will be reality television, her father says it will.
