Madonna knew that someone else had dibs on Davie first

There’s a report that a South African woman was interested in adopting baby David Banda, and that she was coming back for him shortly and presumably intended to live in Malawi for a year and a half according to adoption regulations there. These laws help protect vulnerable babies from being snatched by rich pedophiles and fickle sensationalist pop stars. Madonna is even said to have been told that this other woman wanted to adopt Davie, but just like the fact that the boy had a father, that obviously didn’t deter her. Whatever Madonna wants, Madonna gets:

According to the administrator at the orphanage Lucy Chipeta, a South African national visited the orphanage a few months ago and expressed the desire to adopt David, whose mother died soon after delivery in September last year.

“I think David is a lucky boy,” Chipeta said at the weekend adding that Madonna was told about the matter but she insisted on taking David.

The South African was expected to visit the country again to start the adoption process. She will have to look for another orphan now that David is Madonna’s new baby pending finalisation of the adoption.

According to Chipeta, the orphanage presented to Madonna a set of orphans, some of them without both parents, but the pop diva fell for David although she was told about the impeding adoption by the South African.

David underwent an HIV test at a government hospital and was diagnosed negative. Madonna’s own medical team conducted another test and confirmed the earlier results.
“But even if he was found to be HIV positive, Madonna indicated she would still take him because all she wanted was to know his HIV status,” Chipeta said.

You can think, “Well, Madonna was there first, and who knows if this other person would have followed through with the adoption?” and that’s partially valid. When the other woman had to rearrange her entire life to adopt Davie because she needed to live in Malawi for 18 months first, is it any wonder she went home to get her affairs in order first?

Davie is reportedly doing well, and Madonna has outfitted his nursery with enough crap to make his family’s entire village self sufficient.

His father has said that he doesn’t want to take Davie back despite saying earlier that he didn’t really understand the fact that adoption is legally permanent. He also said that Madonna’s claim on Oprah that his wife and two other children died of aids is not true and is incredibly stigmatizing to his family.

Moreover, Yohane Banda says that he did visit David at the orphanage often and that his mother and brother went to see the baby too. Madonna claimed on Oprah that none of Davie’s “extended” family went to see him. It’s possible that officials told Madonna a bunch of lies about Davie’s family because they didn’t want to jeopardize her huge donation. Why would she use the word “extended” though unless she knew that the boy’s father had seen him at the orphanage?

People are saying that adoption laws need to be reformed so that other children can get a shitload of designer baby gear instead of a supported life in Africa, and maybe they have a point. The answer is not to let wealthy people donate orphanages and take home a baby in less than a month, though. There has to be some sort of compromise that protects children from predators while making sure that the people left behind get the support they so desperately need – without red strings attached.

The trolls are out in full force on these Madonna posts. If you don’t agree with me you’re welcome to give your opinion, which I respect. Most people who are on Madonna’s side explain it clearly and logically. (Thanks Elisha!) Attacking people personally for having a different opinion than you do is called an ad hominem attack and it’s the weakest argument there is. Calling someone fat instead of addressing their points is pretty unconvincing. It makes no sense.

Also, as long as something is making headlines I will cover it. (Mr. T) I do my best to listen to you and take your concerns seriously, but I have a job to do and if I ignore every story or celebrity that someone is sick of I’ll have nothing left to gossip about.

Madonna swooped into a third world country and took home a baby with a father after a couple of weeks. She managed to completely flout adoption laws by dropping a bunch of cash on a Kabbalah-themed orphanage. Who knew that would be so polarizing an issue?

Celebitchy, I love your site but stop with the Madonna hatred already. It’s boring.

  2. dawn says:

If she had done this adoption in the normal manner, versus fast-tracking it with her fame and fortune, it wouldn’t be such a big deal. She brought the drama on herself.

  3. bgirl says:

There is nothing in the article that suggests that the South African woman was going to live in Malawi. She may have been planning on taking David to South Africa right away, just like Madonna took him to England. We shouldn’t make broad assumptions in order to make one side look good or bad.

  4. Action says:

I don’t find the Madonna posts at all boring. Keep ’em coming!

  5. AC says:

as much as madonna may have done something horrible… can you imagine like if she gave the baby back and he grew up and someone told him he could have been a famouse millionairs kid … he’s gonna be pissed.

I MYSELF LIKE THIS WEBSITE, BUT COME ON WITH THE THE MADONNA…

  7. DogRunner says:

The bottom line of this issue is the rules for regular citizens vs. celebrities.

Celebitchy is trying to give us additional info on an issue that is highly censored in the press. So, if you are tired of the subject…don’t read it and head straight to articles on Lindsey or Paris. However, I will continue to read the latest updates on the adoption and keep abreast!

I would like to thank you guys at Celebitchy for keeping us informed. I have been super confused ever since this started. After hearing a few things about the Oprah interview, I thought the case was closed. But this seems to be far more complicated than Madonna wants us to think. And the fact that she’s already in the US with the boy and planning more TV appearances just weirds me out. I feel that this story is far from over.

  9. Viv says:

I really don’t know what to think now. At first I was happy for Madonna and the child, but after watching this story develop, I think I am adverse to the idea of cele|baby snatching/adoption; this is interesting to me.

  10. Jess says:

I agree completely with DogRunner. It drives me up the wall when people come to a site like cele|bitchy to defend celebs. It’s not cele|lovey, people!

Everyone has the right to an opinion, but the posts on the last Madonna entry were getting self righteous and down right rude. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you about Madonna doesn’t mean they don’t donate to charity or are fat and lazy. I for one love this site and love the Madonna hate!

  11. DogRunner says:

Right on Jess! “I for one love this site and love the Madonna hate!”

What bothers me is that she is from Rochester, Michigan…nice suburb in Detroit and nothing to be ashamed of. But now she lives in the UK and has adopted a British accent. When does she stop acting and become real????

  12. Viv says:

She has a British accent now? That sounds as bad as me developing a hick drawl from living in Texas and being an FOB. I wonder why the other lady that was going to adopt him hasn’t spoken up.

  13. Toubrouk says:

    *SIGH*

This is a real media disaster for Madonna. How long we will have to wait until that mess explode in her face? I hope not too long.

This is a sad comedy that will not stop until David is returned to his family.

  14. RabidPooch says:

No one is denying that this child will have a good “material” life, but what the people who support Madonna’s child snatching miss, is the bigger issue on ethics and ones money and status in life affording one the opportunities to by pass laws and buy children at whim.

No WONDER Oprah sees nothing wrong with it. She is at the top of the rich and privied list.

The supporters all seem to focus on what his life would probably have been like had Madonna not come along and taken him home like a puppy in a pet store.

Who cares if this opens the door a bit more for rich pedaphiles and other people with bad intentions. This child won the lottery and will be rich and famous and grow up in a cult religion whether he likes it or not.

He is already being FORCED to wear the red string bracelet.

  15. bgirl says:

Most people who adopt children from orphanges would meet several children and choose the one that they have the strongest connection with, so Madonna didn’t do anything different than other people when meeting David and deciding to adopt him.

Claiming that she didn’t follow adoption laws which could open the doors for rich pedophiles is not true. Her adoption will not be final for 18 months, as Malawi law states. She also had a social worker meet with Madonna and her family, just like any other family who is going through the adoption process.

And you may think that Kaballah is a cult that she is forcing on her children. Kids are forced into whatever religion their parents follow, whether it be christianity, judaism or anything else. No one would object to her if she was in a mainstream religion.

  16. RabidPooch says:

So bgirl, do plan to follow all my posts around and comment or just the Vadge related ones?

She did bypass their laws, she did NOT live in the country for the required time period.

And like I said, she didn’t BOND with this child, she fell for it like one would a puppy in a pet store.

And she did not adopt and orphan, she adopted a child who has a father too poor to take care of this only surviving child and she took that child to a far off country where the father will not be able to bike to see him anymore.

If they are willing to sell this woman who built her career on selling SLUT and SMUT as well prostituting herself for money…..the standards can not be too high as long as someone is RICH ENOUGH.

Mainstream religion does not have a one year old programmed by wearing a red bracelet. That is because the religion is cult and the kid is already being programmed and has no choice.

Wonder if all the little orphans will be required to wear the bracelet in the orphanges Vadge is supporting.

I don’t see how Madonas money will buy david a better life than if he had been adopted by a loving middle class or even lower middle class family.People seem to feel her money is the main perk. What about love.I find the thought of Madona loving anyone but herself laughable. Her kids aren’t allowed to watch TV ,I wonder why they will eventually find out what a s*** she was. Will she take Davids clothes away when he’s bad like she does her daughter.Oh well her book will be out soon so she’ll probally give him back.I do wonder what it is about david that made her want to buy him so bad was it the fact his situation garenteed press?

  18. Gigohead says:

I don’t mind the Madonna news. Keep them coming. Madonna bought this on to herself. It wasn’t like Celebitchy plopped the kid on Madonna.

  19. Estefany says:

I still believe that Madonna would will always be a better mother for everyone!!! She does have experience with loving, caring, and nurturing kids. Besides….so what if she gets what she wants when she wants its????????!!!!!!!!!
