Chris Brown on DWTS, lots of lip syncing, no smashing yet (videos)

fp_6999832_brown_chris_ini_
Chris Brown still performed two songs on Dancing with The Stars last night (videos below) even after he smashed up a window at Good Morning America, acted like a petty bitch and made lame excuses when he got called out for it. It’s clear that ABC cares more about ratings than about sending a message that they don’t tolerate domestic violence. They gave Brown a invaluable platform to promote his album, and he ate it up like he was the second coming of Michael Jackson. It was all very obviously lip synced, like painfully so, but he put on an otherwise decent performance and the kid can dance. It’s a shame he’s a violent unrepentant felon and that he’s still being given a forum to perform.

Not everyone at Dancing with the Stars agreed with the decision to have Chris on. Both host Tom Bergeron and professional dancer Cheryl Burke expressed their misgivings about allowing a convicted abuser to perform on the show. E!’s Awful Truth reports this news, along with the inside information that ABC was trying to stage an interview between Brown and the woman he choked nearly unconscious, threatened to kill and left for dead. (Read the police report if you dispute this).

And now that ABC has basically swept the whole dressing room freak-out under the rug in order to protect Brown for his stint tonight on Dancing With the Stars, the network seems to be sending him the message that his dangerous ‘tude is A-OK.

Newsflash, it’s not. Cheryl Burke obviously thinks so.

“As a victim of domestic violence, I don’t agree with him coming on the show, but it’s out of my control,” the DWTS pro dished to Extra.

But ABC’s not going to say that—or agree with it. Puh-leeze, especially with a TV performance that is about to reel in some massive ratings at stake!

Brown is set to perform two songs tonight, but he might have to introduce himself for obvious reasons.

Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron asked show producers to keep him as far away from Brown as possible during his guest number on the hit dancing competition.

Bergeron dished to Ryan Seacrest: “I did tell the producers it may be to their advantage to not have me interview him.”

Great idea since not only would it be really awkward, but you never know when that fuse will burst. We hope Tom disapproves of the show’s decision to honor C.B.’s invitation after that dressing-room tirade as much as Burke does!

It’s too bad the tight-knit ABC family isn’t registering Brown’s anger levels as dangerous red flags. He seemed about to Hulk out of his cut-off jean vest during that GMA interview, and now ABC’s willing to risk a potential freak-out repeat (we all know it’s only a matter of time until the next one) by having him on its airwaves again.

Also, even though the network denies it, we have been assured by reliable ABC sources that mission numero uno—as far as its Brown coverage goes—would be to facilitate a “sitdown” between Chris and Rihanna.

Reps for Brown and Rihanna still have not said if their clients would ever be interested in such a public spectacle, which, of course, is exactly what it would be, as ABC well knows.

The guy beat his girlfriend to a pulp for Christ’s sake! That’s not something ABC, or any member of Team Breezy, should be proud of endorsing or putting on air.

[From E! Online]

At least Bergeron and Burke spoke out against this guy. I get that he has the top R&B single but that doesn’t mean he gets a pass after throwing a chair through a window and ripping his shirt off for being asked some questions he preapproved about nearly killing his famous girlfriend. He shows a clear lack of remorse and in no way deserves this chance. That’s how it works, though, and ratings trump even a small amount of morals and common sense every time. They even want to sit Rihanna down with the guy who smashed her face into a car window and choked her repeatedly. If Chris was just some stranger who attacked Rihanna he would be in jail now and not on television enjoying a comeback.

Oh and here’s a life size Hulk figure that Chris has in his house. He tweeted about this in September, 2009. Seems fitting, right?

Well the show is call Dancing with the Stars..

I think he focused on the dancing. He is an amazing dancer so. I think Chris needs to control himself. I put some of it on youth. Not all but some. He needs an older person in his life as a mentor.

but um I do think there is a double standard with him. I am sure I will be attacked for saying it, but it is true. and I look at a person like Roman P who rapped a 13 year old and the Actors that are always out in support of him.. screaming it was years ago. YET they work for him. I don’t see blogs screaming a boycott on his films or the actors that are in them. So it seems that certain people get branded for life and others get to continue as they were.

there is a double standard and it is a clear as rain in a storm.

  2. VV says:

Another reason for me NOT to watch this show.

  3. Jezi says:

I feel the same as you CB. Like it was a pretty good performance, dance-wise. He is a heck of a performer and I really like his songs. It’s too bad he’s such a bastard. You watch him and say to yourself, damn it’s a shame he’s that way because the kid can dance. Such a waste.

  4. teehee says:

You know in all these years Ive never known a song of his or what the hell he sounds like till I skimmed thru that video. This gets you famous? Sorry… wth

  5. Marjalane says:

I’m about done with networks having utterly no standards these days- First ABC tells the President that he can jolly well change his speech because they won’t carry it if it interferes with their #1 show, and they do! (no fan of the POTUS, but that is pathetic) and then they trot out an abusive asshole, and even though everyone is uncomfortable with it, too damn bad. There are still a bunch of TV watching idiots out there that will excuse Chris Brown’s “mistakes” so they can watch him act like a pig on a family show. I don’t care what number his new single is- this was all kinds of wrong.

  6. baby says:

omg that little kid at the beginning was ADORABLE…his SNL performance was better tho (he wasn’t lipsyncing, and he actually sounding amazing.) i agree with lisa..not to take away from what he did..but there is definitely a dbl standard.

  7. Waldemar says:

He got a standing ovation from the audience AND the judges. It is so wrong on so many levels.

  8. OXA says:

I did not watch the show because ABC chose this punk over family values and decency.
I chooae to boycott ABC and it’s parent company Disney.

  9. PrettyTarheel says:

Let me say this first: I find Roman Polanski’s crime disgusting-however, there is not a situational comparison here.
There have been a lot of artists who came out in support of Chris as well-people have had him at their homes, collab’ed with him, etc. He has the NUMBER ONE FREAKING ALBUM. He’s hardly being persecuted (or prosecuted for his most recent vandalism). Roman Polanski’s crime was decades ago-Chris’s was less than a few years ago. We don’t know of any additional behaviors that Roman Polanski demonstrated that indicated that he was still acting on his particular perversion (although I’m sure he never stopped having the urges). It’s clear that Chris did what the courts said and no more, and now he just wants all of this to go away. Chris’s own behavior has brought out the condemnation. By his constant tweets, inability to control his temper, downplaying of his own behavior on the night he committed his crime…He has clearly indicated that he does not have the mindset of someone who has come through therapy with a new outlook, but just someone who gave lip-service to the concepts to make the judges happy until he could get back to money and fame. Both are disgusting, but Chris is bringing the current backlash on himself. Go away, lay low, and many people will, unfortunately, forget you’re a low-life scum. Just ask Polanksi.

So now what, Chris Brown can’t lip-sync but freaking ugly man Madonna, can lip sync throughout her performances, really, they have been so many artists who have lip sync throughout their careers, even Beyonce, Usher, Justin Timberlake etc, have done it and people still cheer, and can i say also Rihanna that’s right I said it. Chris Brown can do whatever he wants, and I would rather see him than Justin Beiber who is freaking crap. Any who, haters don’t even matter. I loved all of his performance, and I would gladly go see him in concert, he is worth going to see see live.

  11. LadyBert62 says:

Quite a diversity of opinions appearing here! I think it will be interesting to see what the hot-headed Chris does when he is criticized and/or dropped from the show – then the true bad boy will appear again.

  12. lisa says:

    @Pretty Tarheel

IAW with some of what you said. The thing is adults of a certain age are not the ones buying his music. He has a very strong fan-base and they like his music and will not care about what the media or ABC says. That is why his album is doing well. My earlier comment was just to say that while adults in the media are coming down on Chris and rightly so based on his behavior that is not the standard. It will change depending on who it is. It would be great if there was a play book that could be applied to everyone equally but that will never happen.

Chris obviously still has serious anger management issues. He needs help and guidance which I don’t think he is getting. His attitude about what happened 2 years ago is indicative of how many young people think. I see it all the time.

regarding Roman..even in your commentt there seems to be some trying to rationalize his crime. that it happened years ago and to your knowledge he has not rapped another child. Well there you go. But perhaps he has not been caught.

I don’t condone his behavior in any way. I am just pointing out that people are funny regarding who they forgive and support and who they choice not to.

  13. PrettyTarheel says:

Lisa, I’m definitely not rationalizing or excusing his crime. I’m simply pointing out that the perception is different because of the time between the occurance and now, Polanski’s behavior publicly, etc. It doesn’t make Polanski any less of a disgusting man. Chris is just in our face all the time: committed crime, went waterskiing on Diddy’s resort, went to court, did some community service, now please forgive me, forget I was involved in this mishap, now buy my album, oops I smashed a mirror and ripped my clothes off a la Bruce Banner. It’s a little hard to swallow so much media saturation in just a few years. Personally, I won’t support either one financially-I won’t listen to Chris Brown’s music, I won’t see Roman Polanski’s movies. That’s the only power I have as a consumer.

  14. cici says:

Of course he’s lip synching – when you dance that much in a performance, you have to. I know that * I * don’t want to hear him singing while watching him dance…the quality would suffer greatly.

Sorry, but I LOVE Chris Brown.

  15. PrettyTarheel says:

Edit: It was a window, not a mirror. Sorry about that!

  16. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Chris Brown angry, you no like Chris Brown when he angry!

  17. sapphire says:

I watched only the first set-I was impressed at the dancing and liked his music. I still think he is a useless waste of space as a human. No pass because of his talents.

He is young enough, if anyone around him was interested, that he could learn and change. I see no evidence that that will happen.

  18. Amanda says:

Wow, he did the same song on GMA (yeahx3) and it was TOTALLY different. He looks like a different person up there since just last week? No more blond hair, he’s wearing a suit, and the dance/singing it totally different. The dancing on GMA was super fast and– I guess almost angry. ALso, kinda gross, but on GMA he wore these beige denim pants and you could see the outline of his d*ck really obviously. Especially right before the routine started and as it started. I thought it was pretty gross as I had just seen the Chris Brown dong pics, and I wondered if he wore those beige jeans on purpose. Here, everything seems put away.

  19. ceenitall says:

I would have been able to forgive him if he would have just come out on the GMA interview and owned what he did and said he was working on his issues and was moving forward. Buuuuttt, he just showed that he hasn’t changed at all and is still a a-hole. So there will be no Chris Brown songs on my ipod.

  20. sisi says:

    he’s wearing a golden stopwatch…

  21. BeckyR says:

Watched DWTS but hit the mute button when this no talent, butt ugly “performer” hit the stage.

  22. nikki says:

I think some people have done some pretty awful things in their past but I think it makes all the difference if they own what they did, can say it was wrong and make every effort to move forward without making the same mistakes, especially when others are affected by those mistakes. Chris Brown just doesn’t seem like he’s changed or like he realizes how horrible it was to do what he did

  23. mscandy says:

Some people really need to understand something- These stars are human just like you. The only difference is their personal life is display for the world to see. Now I would every adult or young person has that much hate for him to tell me if your closet is extremely clean- tell me if your house is extremely clean.
I DON’T CONDONE ANYTHING THAT IS VIOLENCE!!!!!

I find it oddly strange that there abusers out there everyday and I bet half the hateful comments on here are not doing anything about it which is extremely sad…

  24. xxodettexx says:

    ugh! VOM-IT!

  25. Anonymous says:

So if Chris Brown is Ugly, I wonder how any of you look am just saying. Chris Brown keep doing your thing, Never give up , and don’t let any bring you down.Because at the end of the day, only God can judge you, and you don’t have to apologize to anyone but to Rihanna, her family, your mother and your fans, the ones that hate you forget about them. Just keep doing your think. But on a serious move, Breezy i need some dance lessons from cause you can dance like hell big ups

  26. BeckyR says:

    # 25, how about clarifying your remarks? If you can.

  27. quest says:

His lip syncing was awful, sorry it looked really bad on the tele and probably worst live – no wonder they had so much lighting effects to hide the flaws.

  28. kmn says:

This is such a tacky idea from ABC and it rubs me the wrong way. I mean, really? What are they going to do, put them in a room and see what happens, reality tv style? Do they really want to make a spectacle out of an incredibly sensitive, emotional situation like that? And why would Rihanna EVER sign on for something like that? Sure, Chris desperately needs to rehab his image so a “sit down” could potentially help him, but Rihanna’s career is smoking hot and she’s moving in a positive direction – which is away from that abusive creep. ABC needs a major reality check.

  29. Anonymous says:

Chris Breezy forever, I would rather see him live than most artist, and if you guys in here hate Chris Brown so much why did you even bother watching this why then SMH

  30. Amanda G says:

I don’t like the kid, but I would never deny that he can dance. He has a terrible voice though…which is probably why he always lip syncs.

  31. sapphire says:

@25 et al- Can you at least post coherently?

ABC and the other shows just look at the ratings, not the source. Interesting that not one would let Mad Mel read a weather report. Yet DWS had a big promo, just days after the GMA meltdown and the stripper grinding pics. Just good clean family fun.

  32. Selena Castle says:

I don’t understand the comparison to Roman Polanski. Polanski raped a girl 30 years ago and although the legal system didn’t go after him like it should have, you can’t say that the man hasn’t paid, financially and professionally. But I also think the mother of the poor girl should have been held accountable for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Would you drop your 13 year old daughter off to have nude/semi-nude photographs taken of her by a man, even if he was a famous director? Sounds like pimping to me.
But what has all that got to do with what Chris Brown has done now? Chris Brown has now indicated that he has a penchant for lashing out physically, windows, women and heaven only knows what else. The guy is, in Australian parlance, a mongrel.

  33. judyjudy says:

This guy beat up a woman and people defend him because he knows how to dance? What?

  34. sorrento says:

    ABC whores on parade
DWTS, The Bachelor, for god’s sake!
Disney should be ashamed where are the standards?

  35. ashleighlauren says:

@mscandy, I’m a social worker. I work with kids in foster care. I also volunteer at least once a month. And for the record, I’ve never assaulted anyone ever. Because it’s not okay. So I’m feeling pretty free and clean in saying that what Chris Brown did was absolutely horrible, and I’m going to judge it.

  36. Louise says:

There’s no way I can say this without sounding like I’m defending Chris Brown but it’s funny that Chris is being attacked when other celebrities have done worse, multiple of times, and didn’t receive half the backlash he did. Although it seems like his career is coming back. His album is doing much better than his previous one and radio is playing him again. If he actually took responsibility for his crimes instead of acting like the victim more people may have been ready to move on and forgive him.

I haven’t watched DWTS for the last couple of years but I don’t get why Tom even mentioned interviewing Chris. I don’t recall any of the singers ever being interviewed. I think he said that to get more attention for the show.

  37. Sara says:

So, famous athlete abuses dogs, he goes to prison, loses his career, declares bankruptcy. Famous singer abuses a woman, he gets a top single and invitations to television shows. Nope, nothing wrong here at all. Our society is completely sane with well-ordered values, definitely not going to hell in a hand-basket.

  38. sandy says:

sad, we are wasting our time, i really hope Chris gets help, it’s not funny, and i don’t care who else did what,(those other people need help too) but if they love chris, (his defenders, family) they should help him, same with Britney, charlie, mel, etc. they need people in their lives who actually care about them, and not their talent are money, that’s all.

  39. Ruffian9 says:

    ashleighlauren; Well said.

As for all the ‘apologists’ -“oooh, he’s such a good dancer!” – Seriously??

That people on this board will give a piece of s**t like this a pass because ‘someone else’ has done ‘worse’…blows my mind. Sometimes I really think society is FUBAR.

  40. Charlotte says:

It’s unfortunate that our society has gotten to the point of “my bad” being the excuse for everything. I believe in second SINCERE chances. Everybody deserves that. But if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck… I am extremely disappointed in ABC’s choice as well. They rewarded a grown a$$ man with a ton of free publicity after he acted like a two year old having a temper tantrum. I’m not interested in singing and dancing ability. I’m interested in integrity and respect.

  41. d says:

People give passes to horrible people all the time, especially if there’s some kind of ability that others can relate to. Some wierd inability to draw the line or something. People thought Stalin was ok because he liked music or some other artistic endeavour…some dumb reason. Never mind that he was responsible for the slaughter of millions. He was an artist!

I have to laugh that people say about Chris Brown: but he’s a good dancer! He’s cute! Blah, blah, blah.
Like being a good dancer somehow contributes to society in a significant way. I don’t know. Like, he’s an entertainer, don’t put him quite so high on the pedestal, ok?

It’s similar the wife abuser or child abuser who’s the so-called pillar of hte community. No one wants to kick him out of society because “he does so much for the community”. Never mind that it’s a disguise for his monsterous personality. Without the irrefutable evidence like photo and/or video and other physical evidence (like the Russ military guy in Canada), chances are high they get away with it.
    Gah.

  42. Patt says:

I don’t see why this guy is praised for his dancing. It was athletic, but I can’t see any real talent. The stage was nice, but the Tron/skeleton people were cringe-worthy. And an electric suit? LOL!

  43. Claire says:

To all the people pointing to Polanski and other “unpunished” stars, may I point out that there are plenty of serial killers out there still free for one reason or another – should we just let the rest get on with it in the interests of “fairness”?

Polanski should be hung drawn and quartered for what he did in my opinion, but why should the fact that we failed his victim, and by extension the female gender, stop us from speaking out against another violent man?

  44. Lia says:

Can the fool sing? His voice was so synthesized that anyone could have been singing it….. even a rooster.

  45. Delta Juliet says:

I skipped this episode when I heard he was on. I know ABC couldn’t care less, but in good consciousness I just could not sit there and watch that prick get a standing ovation.
