In terms of lucrative film adapations of best-selling young-adult literature, Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games shall certainly be the next Twilight phenomenon in terms of audience fervor and ability to cash in upon an already successful franchise. However and unlike Stephenie Meyers’ sparkly vampire saga (which is widely acknowledged to be terribly written), The Hunger Games has drawn much critical acclaim and even the praise of Stephen King. So far, the movie counterpart to the first book has captured a rather compelling cast, including Jennifer Lawrence (and her Katniss hair), Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, and Stanley Tucci. Oh yes, and now Lenny Kravitz has signed on as well:
Lenny Kravitz has joined the cast of The Hunger Games in a role that fans of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy have been anxious to see filled.
The actor-musician will play Cinna, the fashion stylist assigned to Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) as she prepares to take part in the Hunger Games. His stunning and unique designs play an integral role in her performance in the Games.
“When I saw Lenny’s work in Precious, I was just knocked out,” director Gary Ross said. “It was quiet and strong and understated and open-hearted: all qualities which define this character.”
Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth also star in the movie, which Lionsgate is set to release March 23.
Kravitz was nominated for an NAACP Image Award and an ensemble SAG Award for his role in Precious. He also has appeared in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Zoolander. He is set to release his ninth studio album, Black and White America, on Aug. 30.

Wait, a fashion stylist assists Katniss in her fight to the death? Maybe I really do need to read these books before the movie comes out. In related news, Lenny’s daughter, Zoe, is currently a subject of much debate due to a set of pictures (which we don’t have access to, but you can see them here) from a London photocall to promote X-Men: First Class. In those photos, not only is Michael Fassbender blonde (and I don’t like it, yet I suspect that Kaiser would still totally do him), but he’s got a James McAvoy buffer between himself and Zoe, who has been his girlfriend for at least a few months now. Although the couple hasn’t made a habit of posing together on the red carpet (as in the Jane Eyre premiere), this is a movie that they’ve filmed together, so it seems signficant, right? Kaiser thinks they’ve split up, and I hope she’s right. Also, I hope Fassbender restores his hair back to its original color, stat!
As an added note, I still can’t get over the fact that Zoe is so, well, average looking since she’s the daughter of two otherworldly beautiful parents (that is, Lenny and Lisa Bonet). Admittedly, I’m probably just saying that because she’s banging Fassbender.

Yeah, that’s it – Zoe isn’t “unattractive” but she’s not really “pretty” either. She can really look strange and odd in some photos.
So, I just decided to read The Hunger Games after reading about the casting ad infinitum. For a “young adult” novel, it’s compelling as hell – well-written, great characters, I got sucked in enough that I decided to read the follow-up.
Good books – I was surprised. AND, honestly can’t wait for this movie. The “love interests” are SERIOUSLY mis-cast, but I think Lenny will help make up for it…..

She isn’t as stunning as her mom…But who in the world is as stunning as Lisa Bonet??? I think she’s hot enough for the Fassbender but I am jealous enough to scratch her eyes out.

I have thought Lenny is sexy for as long as I can remember. I am very open to him being Cinna. I think he will do a great job.
I hear you Bedhead, I remember when Lisa Bonet was pregnant with Zoe, everyone thought the kid was going to be this unbelievably beautiful creature because of how gorgeous her parents are. It’s not that she’s not gorgeous, but I think for those of us who remember when Lenny and Lisa were together, it’s like, hey, Zoe Kravitz isn’t as gorgeous as we expected, how weird. I think we expected her to be like a goddess or something, which I don’t think is at all odd, considering the fact that both her parents are still eye-poppingly gorgeous, 20 years later. As for the Cinna casting, well, unlike with Katniss, Cinna is never very specifically described in the books, so I think his appearance could be left widely open to interpretation. But you’d definitely need someone who could be believable as a pretty epic stylist, but also ballsy. The Hunger Games movie is, to me, treading this fine line between “could be awesome” and “could be a f-cking disaster”. I’ll probably go see it either way, because if it ends up being a train wreck, it’ll be a pretty interesting train wreck.
NOOOOOOoooooo. My friends and I were talking about this this morning. We were hoping it was just rumor with not even a kernel of truth and now here you are confirming it. A little piece of my heart just died. Cinna is my favorite character in the books. And he’s young. As in early 20’s young. Lenny Kravitz just does not fit the character AT ALL.

Lisa Bonet is hotter than sin. I saw her for the first time in Angel’s Heart and even though there is an extremely icky factor about her scenes in that movie — *SPOILERS* she bangs her own father *SPOILERS* — she still looks super sexy in it.
Lenny Kravitz is hot, but he is not Cinna. Cinna is a sweet, mild mannered 20 something. This is no Cinna.

Okay, as a reader I have to say that I read Twilight the whole way through thanks to a hurricane that had me sitting at my mother’s with no TV. I just couldn’t – I still can’t – get the mass hysteria. The Hunger Games, oh – I downloaded (Kindle) the first on some off chance it might be alright, I had not heard of it. Over the next three days I read the whole trilogy! I was away for my honeymoon and any second not planned I read!
Bedhead – read the books! They are easy reads, being for the younger peeps. Still SO good!

I too was sick of the “Twilight-esque” PR drooling over the casting until I read the book. Read it in 2 days – could not put it down. Geez this movie had better be brilliant. Kravitz as Cinna – what a frakkin inspired piece of casting. Absolutely love it. This movie has suddenly got a hell of a lot more interesting. I wait with bated breath. Still think Pettyfer was a shoe in for Peeta until the negative PR over his issues.

The Hunger Games starts off really strong and then the trilogy just kind of peters out to a disappointing end. I will say that I went through a period where I wanted to recapture my youth and just read a lot of YA novels, and the first one was remarkably good, so I hope they make a brilliant movie out of it – although if you watch Battle Royale you can see where the author got her inspiration from in the first place, so really it’s coming back full circle aye?
WHAAAAAT?! No. Just no. I’m done with this movie. I’ll stick with the books.

So disappointed that he was cast as Cinna. He is SO NOT CINNA! I just about dropped my phone when I read this last night. My friend, who I got hooked on the series, is just as mad. They’ve blown a lot of casting choice but I’m trying to reserve judgement until I see the movie. Only 10 months to go!

He is nice to look at but reports of his aversion to soap are fairly consistent. And then there are the hundreds of thousands of dollars he’s been forced to pay settling lawsuits brought on by his toilet repeatedly overflowing into his downstairs neighbor’s home. Just…ewww.
I think Lenny and Zoe are both insanely hot. I wasn’t gonna see the movie despite some interest from family members, but I’m absolutely coming along to see it now.
