Miley Cyrus: ‘I am so f—ed up, everyone does dumb stuff when they are messed up’

Miley Cyrus

These are some more photos from Miley’s recent shoot with Notion magazine — the one that was accompanied by a pretty awful interview in which she said “You think I’m a rachet white girl, but I’m living everyone’s dream.” The rest of this shoot is highly photoshopped and features an impossibly smooth Miley booty and an outfit that shows off absolutely everything except that the nips and the vadge have been airbrushed out. Still, some blurring was essential.

Miley Cyrus

Meanwhile (and much to the chagrin of Lady Gaga’s art, there’s still plenty of lingering controversy over Miley’s VMA performance. Harry Styles gave an interview to Moviefone in which he insists that Miley’s onstage twerking was obscene: “I think it’s quite inappropriate. Especially for the age groups it’s aimed at. I think it’s, you know, promoting promiscuity.” I hate to say that Harry has a point here because no matter how Miley insists that her twerking and drug lyrics are evidence that she’s all grown up, her teddy bear and balloon motifs speak to the contrary. She’s aiming for a young audience with that imagery, and adding the twerking to the mix is gross.

Now the Mirror has released a semi-new interview with Miley that was conducted during last month’s UK media blitz, but the themes are quite familiar:

She admits to being a mess: “I’m messed up. I have so many f—ing issues. I am so f—ed up – everyone does dumb stuff when they are messed up. I don’t have a normal life. I take a hiatus every now and again but I’m not good at that.”

It’s all down to her work ethic: “All I do is work, so I eat to live and to keep going. People are impressed with me - because I can sleep for just 45 minutes — I’m used to it. I suppose I am a workhorse. I love being in the studio and when I take vacation I get so bored. I think of work as something I have to do. I’ve made a record so I have to promote it so I have to work to get it done — and then pass out.”

But she takes care of herself: “Because I work so much, I’m always on the road so I eat healthily. I have to give my body what it needs to keep going and if you don’t then you will crash and burn. I love soda (fizzy drinks) but I haven’t had one since I’ve been here in the UK. If I have a Coke I’m going to be ‘Aaargh!’ and in an hour I’ll crash. I don’t get to work out. I do yoga and 30 push-ups every day and try to get my mind right.”

Enough with the Disney sh-t: “During Hannah Montana I think people knew I was acting. I’ve never been able to hide anything, a bit like Justin Bieber. Others who have been on kids’ shows try to act like their characters — but I’m not like that. I never pretended I was as good as the Disney Channel writes. I don’t wear bright-coloured T-shirts and talk like this all the time.”

[From The Mirror]

I don’t understand how Miley claims she doesn’t “get to work out” just because she’s been travelling a lot. Tell that to Madonna, who has exercise equipment delivered to every hotel room that she’s ever graced. I think Miley really does work out a lot and probably just pretends that maintaining a gluten-free diet is all she does to stay thin.

As Miley mentions in this interview, she gave this talk to the Mirror in August when she was promoting “We Can’t Stop” like crazy, but she’s been back in the States for weeks. Guess who’s in London now without Miley? Liam Hemsworth. Earlier today, Kaiser posted photos of lonely Liam out at a nightclub with Chris and Elsa Pataky. I wonder if they were giving him a peptalk in light of his mortification. How many rumored interventions can be staged before this dude finally breaks up with her?

Of course they do, Miley…just not in front of millions of people over and over again. Perhaps some sleep will help? Maybe a few month’s worth so we do not need to see your or that hideous tongue for awhile?

    • RocketMerry says:

Yeah, I’ll address Miley directly too; she (or better, her team) might actually read gossip sites news on herself, so..

Sorry but no, Miley. Not every single messed up person values the shock-power of incorrect behaviour. Let’s not act like “poor Miley” is just some unfortunate, disturbed girl who does not know how to contain herself and how to behave because she has SO many issues. It’s just not true.
Miley – following instructions from her management team – plans, manoeuvres, calculates every single thing she does or says just to obtain the desired reaction from the public.
Which, you know, alright, who cares.
It’s just offensive that Miley uses “being messed up” as an excuse.
      Grow the fk up, Miley.

      • TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

Exactly, and as liv said below, what was most offensive was her awful singing voice, homegirl can’t sing live to save herself without a great deal of studio tweeking – or is it studio twerking.
        This shows how stupid these people are;
Suppose she came out looking like Diana Ross back in the day, both in voice and appearance, and sang a great ballad – but no, she and her team did took the predictable and pathetic route.

      • Hakura says:

@TheOneAndOnlyOnly – “…what was most offensive was her awful singing voice, homegirl can’t sing live to save herself without a great deal of studio tweeking – or is it studio twerking.

That’s the thing… Anyone who’s seen Miley’s performance in ‘The Backyard Sessions’ (here- Miley Cyrus – Backyard Sessions – “Jolene” ), knows she can sing (& has a natural country ‘twang’ to her voice). But in her recent music, her voice seems to sound twice as ‘nasal’.

It’s when she tries to do this pop BS that’s almost always at least 1/2 computer generated, that there’s a problem. But during the VMA ‘performance’ (more like ‘spectacle’), she constantly sounded out of breath, trying to move (can’t really call it dancing) & sing at the same time. But she needed to pick one or the other. I’m not saying her voice would’ve been better, but it couldn’t have possibly been worse. It was just a big mess. (╯_╰)

      • mux says:

Great observation RocketMerry. A marketing rep once commented that celebrities are no longer people; they are brands, and brands are only interested in profitability regardless of what damage the message does to society.

What concerns me is what is next? What antics will the next Pop Tart be instructed to do to titillate our young people’s base urges?

    • Petee says:

I never got them as a couple from the get go but to each there own. From me being a addict it takes one to know one and she is just starting from what I can see.It explains alot of her erratic behavior and bad choices but it doesn’t excuse them.I am not a fan of One Direction but Harry was right.I don’t know if you guy’s ever saw her on Rachel Ray a few years ago.So different. She insisted she wanted to remain a virgin and all this other stuff. What a 180.

      • Hakura says:

@Petee – “I don’t know if you guy’s ever saw her on Rachel Ray a few years ago.So different. She insisted she wanted to remain a virgin and all this other stuff. What a 180.

I always cringe when a young star talks publicly about such issues as ‘waiting until marriage to have sex‘ or ‘promise rings‘. NOT because there’s anythings wrong w/that choice… But because they’re famous, everything they say/do is on document, making it that much more likely that if their decisions on such subjects change (as it does, for many, especially as they become teens/young adults), it can (& normally does) come back to bite them on the ass.

(Personally, I’ve always disliked the idea of ‘promise rings’, but really only when they involve really young kids (who don’t even really understand what they’re promising), who are totally doing it to make their parents/relatives/church happy, or are told that it will make God happy… Then eventually feel like they’ve failed at *life*, if they ‘go back on’ that promise. I just think it’s a big mess when kids are involved).

    • Shannon says:

Or how about stop snorting so much coke?? This is a major problem with Miley. You can guarantee that.

      • Emily says:

I agree! I think the American public has a tendency to be a bit naive. No one ever wanted to think Britney Spears was on drugs when she went crazy, but it turned out she was. I don’t think this is just about Miley Cyrus trying to prove how grown up she is. She is going the absolute extra mile and then some to be completely outlandish. Maybe she’s rebelling against her money-hungry parents who pimped her out cause her father’s own career died off a long time ago. If she were my friend or relative up there trying so desperately hard, I would be deeply concerned and not defending her, but trying to figure out what the reason behind it all was.

I think there will be a major meltdown in her (near) future.

    • Lynn says:

This troll could compare herself to snooky in the hot tube on the first episode of the jersey shore…she is a laughing stock! Sorry miley but you will not be remembered as sexy Britney. She pulled a jersey shore humiliation

  2. Anna says:

Oh yes, it’s Miley’s twerking with teddy bears that’s promoting promiscuity, not the Blurred Lines song and video with much more naked women.

    • Ellie66 says:

I watched the unrated version of Blurred Lines finally and I was uncomfortable with all the naked girls and fully dressed men (I’m old but not that old) I think all of them need to tone it down a bit all of them! Miley and ladies get dressed its not art just because ur naked. Kelly Clarkson nailed it calling them “pitchy strippers”.

      • Anna says:

Promiscuity for men = normal, expected, aspirational even. Promiscuity for women = let the pearl-clutching commence!

      • pretty says:

have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKfwCjgiodg blurred lines video parody with naked men and fully clothed women. SO HOT.

      • DreamyK says:

@Pretty….awesome video…they bring their A game. Also? How does it feel men 😛

      • carol says:

I dont have a problem with promiscuity necessarily. It just bugs me that we have that thing where men are studs if promiscuous, but it’s bad for women to be promiscuous. I dont necessarily have a problem with objectification either, as long as it is voluntary, but I would like to at least see all genders being objectified more equally and not just women. RIght now it just see women being objectified way more than men – that kinda makes it seem like being an object instead of a real person, is what defines women. If it were more equal across genders, then it would be no big deal. Robin Thicke’s video – that’s why it’s sexist. Because he is fully clothed and the women aren’t. It is displaying his power and contrasts it against the women’s submissiveness. IDK. does that make sense?

      • Hakura says:

@Ellie66 – I’m in my late 20’s, & it made me uncomfortable. There was no reason aside from objectification to make the ‘unrated’ version.

There were so many gross ‘little hints’…Example, 1 girl lit his cigarette (which you can take more than 1 way), then he blows the smoke in her face, making her cough. (Maybe it’s just me, but it seemed to be mimicking the ‘results’ of a certain sex act, getting something… ‘unpleasant’…on her face.). Then at the very end, The women are all dressed, & TI is unrolling a big wad of cash. It looks like he’s about to ‘pay them for their services’. Making them into prostitutes &/or strippers is just degrading them even further.

Such symbolism grossed me out even more than the obvious things in most cases. But he’s always come across ‘slimey’ to me.

@Pretty – I hadn’t seen that! Thanks for the link. They really kicked some ass, & the voices were awesome!

@Carol – It does make sense. The the ‘sexual playing field’ (especially in our entertainment industry) needs to be more ‘even’.

    • Buckwild says:

Miley looked like an absolute fool but is Harry Styles really in the position to say anything? Annoying gremlin.

      • Mindy says:

I remember that camera shot of Rihanna side eying that performance with Harry sitting above Riri looking bemused. And the rest of 1D giggling at the stage. Miley is a laughing stock even amongs these fools.

Harrys comments feel very sexist to me though. And hypocritical given the shit 1D pull on stage. These guys mime blowjobs at each other. They place their mics at groin level and mimic masturbation. And its not even part of some dance choreography, they just like to push their Managements buttons. Theres the blond one who was filmed telling pre teen fans that they are “salty *unts” to their faces.
        Pot meet kettle!

      • katy says:

Right. Funny the promiscuity bit comes from a man that is rumored to have bedded many women.

      • Maria says:

        @v4real

The biggest difference for me regarding Miley to Angelina or Fassy is that those two films dealt with serious issues: a model who died from AIDS and a man with sex addiction.

Those movies were never aimed at teens, context matters.

Even with that, my issue with Cyrus isn’t about her sexuality and how she conveys it, but rather her exploitation of a subculture that isn’t hers.

Thicke is atrocious, no doubt, bit comparing these films to Miley makes no sense to me as they’re completely different.

      • V4Real says:

@Maria where did I compare those films to Miley. I didn’t. I was talking about the issue people had with the video and song Blurred Lines. I only spoke of Miley when saying it was her who was twerking on Thicke. You’re adding things I didn’t say.
BTW there are plenty of more sex filled movies and nudity. I just threw those two out there. Some people can also argue that those movies could have been done and had the same effect without Angie or Fassy getting nude. So stop making excuses when it suits your purpose. For example all they had to show was Angie as Gia kissing her girlfriend, we didn’t have to see full on sex to know they were being intimate. There have been plenty of people who was conveying to the audience that they are nude in a scene but we don’t see their naked bodies.

      • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

LOL! I’d forgotten about the gremlins.

      • EscapedConvent says:

Something to keep in mind: In Angelina’s movie “Gia,” Gia’s death from AIDS had nothing to do with her girlfriend or her being gay. Gia was an IV drug user who shared needles.

    • Charlie says:

You are so right. Double standards. Robin Thicke can get away with all sorts. Makes me sick.

    • emmie_a says:

They didn’t ask Harry about Blurred Lines or the video – they asked him about Miley and those were his thoughts. Nobody is saying that other things don’t promote promiscuity…

      • Side-Eye says:

What Emmie said. People are so quick to start whining about double standards without looking at context. Read, people. And Robin apparently.can’t get away with everything since people are constantly complaining about it.

      • Anna says:

Half of Miley’s performance WAS the Blurred Lines duet with Thicke. The whole part with the foam finger, the nude undies, etc. It was not a stand-alone act, but it’s treated as such.

Harry (and everybody else) aren’t being asked about RTh’s part because why would we ever hold the man WHOSE SONG IT WAS accountable? Nope, just the female half of the act.

      • Liv says:

I think I might like Harry Styles from now on.

The worst thing was that she didn’t even sing good. Her voice was awful. Such a weak PR move wanting to shock everyone just to sell records.

Anna, I agree with you, the video of the song is really gross. Then again Robin Thicke wasn’t twerking on stage. Think we should seperate the video from their performance.

      • Mel says:

Its dodgy but not because he focused on Miley instead of Robin. Harrys fans are much younger than Mileys and he does very suggestive things with his bandmates. Thats why fans are convinced that the whole band is sleeping with each other.

      • V4Real says:

I wasn’t going to touch this but I wanted to say something. First Thicke has caught a lot of crap for this. Secondly I’m sure Miley turned it up more for the live performance than rehearsal. If you notice Thicke wasn’t doing nothing more than singing and walking around the stage. He wasn’t humping or gyrating. It was Miley who was twerking and doing obscene things to him. Sure he could have pushed her away but it’s a live performance and he wasn’t going to embarras a fellow performer by doing so.

As for the song and video to Blurred Lines I can’t believe people have a problem with it yet have no problem with sex scenes and nudity in movies. Angelina was completely naked in Gia and had a pretty graphic sex scene with a woman. No one was complaining about seeing Fassy dong just swinging in the air. It’s all considered some form of art people.

Please don’t say well children get exposed to that video because on the post about Blurred Lines hardly anyone was complaing that it was inappropriate for children they were complaining about how objectifying and how uncomfortable it made them feel. They weren’t concerned about kids seeing it.

      • Brie says:

When did Thicke “catch crap” for this? All I saw was Miley being accused of sexual harassment and Thickes mum adding to that chorus.

My problem is that the piece together was clearly rehearsed. The bit where he follows her to the stage walk way, they both turn to the side (to give camera a good view), he stands very close behind her and then she bends over, is the giveaway.

      • Mel says:

        V4Real

I dont think you have seen what Harry gets up to himself, probably because you have a life (lol). Me, I spend time on Tumblr and lets just say that the X rated gifs of One Direction abound. They dont dance on stage so what they do is just play with fanfic storylines. They pair off, pretend to be hot for each other and go off stage for afew seconds. When they return they are either zipping up their pants or wiping off their mouth as if they just, you know.

Their shows are intentionally erotic but cleverly so, inorder to retain deniability.

      • V4Real says:

@Brie Thick did receive some backlash but not as much as Miley. Thicke has been receiving crap for his video to Blurred Lines since its release.
If you read what I said you would know that I mentioned that Miley probably turned it up more for the performance than in rehearsal. That means that they did rehearse but her rehearsal was probably a bit more tamed. So where did I say their performance wasn’t rehearsed. Also still doesn’t change the fact that Robin wasn’t humping or gyrating like Miley was. He could have easily given in to the nature of the performance and started humping on her but he didn’t.

      • V4Real says:

@Mel I didn’t say anything about Harry but I have seen some of 1D’s antics. Hence the reason some say that Harry is gay. As horrible as Miley performance was; that kid doesn’t have room to talk about anybody.

      • Sloane Wyatt says:

@Mel: “what they do is just play with fanfic storylines” – Please supply some links!!! I could use some Monday morning tastiness.

Back to the topic at hand, Miley is combining childhood tropes with stripper moves and mimed ***lingus; nobody can really defend that. Cyrus’ whole shtick is that for little girls to be cool they need to be turned out by the time they’re twelve.

See what I did here? The juxtaposition of adult sexuality and young children is gross.

    • MisJes says:

I completely understand where Harry is coming from.

Miley, as well as her young adult audience, retains many younger fans who (like it or not, Miley) still remember her from her Hannah Montana days. The use of teddy bears in her clip concocts parallels with childhood, toys, etc.

In any case Anna, I don’t see how Blurred Lines is remotely relevant to this story?

      • Anna says:

See the comment above – Miley effing the foam finger and stripping to nude undies was part of a Blurred Lines performance with RTh.

      • MisJes says:

I stand by my comment. I just watched the video linked above, and the question asked of One Direction was (quote) “Who is the best twerker in the group?”, to which one member jokingly suggested Harry was. Harry replied “Miley is.” The follow up question regarded whether they thought he could win a twerk-off against Miley, and the quote Bedhead has pulled follows shortly after in the conversation.

The VMAs performance was not specifically referenced, and his opinion of the performance per se was not asked for. They were talking about twerking, and twerking only.

      • Liddie says:

Now I hate Harry even more. What Miley was doing was not twerking. It was a silly child sticking her tongue out while attempting to shake a pancake ass. It was great comedy, sure. But twerking? It most certainly NOT,

      • MisJes says:

True! She couldn’t twerk to save her life.

      • Brie says:

I saw an article that described her butt as being like “soggy bread”.

I can totally believe she doesnt work out. That butt would be perkier if she did. Now its just sad.

      • Bubbles says:

Is twerking supposed to be sexy? Because to me, it’s not. It’s awful, quite trashy. Even when it’s done properly.

    • OriginallyBlue says:

I get what you’re saying and I hate the double standards but is Robin Thicke marketing his image towards teens (girls especially)?
I think if you asked tweens/teens who Robin Thicke was they would either not know or just know him for that one song. Where as Miley built her entire image, “empire” through Hanna Montana and kids know who she is and are the ones buying her music now and in the past.
She is making more of an impression on these kids than Robin ever could.

      • Side-Eye says:

I was going to reply but I think misjes And OB pretty much nailed it. Plus thicke wasn’t the one shucking and jiving and acting a damn fool in that song-he stood there looking confused while Try-Hard was sticking her tongue out and having convulsions.

      • V4Real says:

@OrgB I don’t think he is marketing himself to teens. It’s usually the big shots behind award shows that pair up the performers. So it probably wasn’t Thicke asking to perform with Miley it was the execs at the VMA’s. Let’s get real, do you really think 2Chainz wanted to be on stage with Miley.

Now when you say teens not knowing Thicke before Blurred Lines which demographics are you referring to. There are plenty of teens in the Black community who has known Thicke for years. Thicke is a well known R&B artist. So I believe you are not referring to teens in general but teens in a different demographic.

    • Bijlee says:

I agree with you anna. Thicke should be getting a mountain of sh-t for that awful performance too. His last two videos have just been gross old men ogling nubile young women for their beauty and bodies and rubbing up on them. It’s nasty and sleazy. Give it 2 U the worst offender absolutely gross #assfloats. Lol and thickes doing what Miley’s doing. As an older man he should grow the eff up. The reason theyre all performing together is because the same director did both their videos and it was her intention toget people talking. Gross all around Martel, thicke, miley, twochainz, and kendrick. Just nasty.

And it’s been clearly established by the director that the reason they did all these crazy things was for attention. She wanted a video that would sell so she went for the cheap sex sells method. She’s admitted this that in any age of twitter and all this social media she wanted something people would talk about. So both miley and thicke are nasty for collaborating with this woman who wants to pass all this cheap nasty gross men objectifying women as some sort of feminist statement or “art.” That model in blurred lines the one no one can stop talking about is Miley’s age….so thicke isn’t doing anything different really.

The part of the performance people hate about Miley’s is her doing thickes song and honestly guys Miley’s not encouraging her young fanbase to flock to thickes music. His songs are already popular on their own. Kids I know as young as 11 and 12 are talking about it at school and among one another way before this horrific vmas performance. Theyve seen gifs and screenshots everywhere. So too late with that. That was all intentional.

    • Hannah says:

There really is lots to debate with all this – gender stereotypes, sexuality, feminism and race. But I think at the end of the day it’s about the fan base and being held accountable to that fan base.

Thicke sings adult songs and makes adult videos for an adult fan base.

Miley’s fan base is not adult and her new image isn’t going to forge one either. It’s the same problem I have with Justin Bieber.

I took the 9yr old I babysit to see the One Direction movie last week and watching it I thought “Wow, these guys [PR ppl] just get it” Miley and Bieber just don’t get it!

    • paige says:

i don’t care about the double standard so much it’s always been there and women just end up having it be socially acceptable to be as gross as men-how is that liberating?
ANYWOO all i think is IF SHE LOOKED REALLY HOT, WAS A GREAT SINGER AND DANCER AND PUT ON A GREAT SHOW – then i would forgive just about anything…but she is just kinda disgusting and untalented and that will never sell an idea….madonna’s constant pushing of the enveloped worked cause she sold it with talent and showmanship or go back to elvis shaking his hips. it worked cuz he was hot…

    • V4Real says:

On another diagusting topic Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam has been cast in 50 Shades of Grey. So I’ve heard

      • DreamyK says:

I just read that, too. He’s a better actor than that. I was disappointed he signed aboard the SS Crapship. He must need money, because holy cow. I’m saying that man is BROKE to take that role LOL

      • TG says:

@V4Real – I wanted to respond to an earlier comment you made about gratuitous nudity in film. While I agree with you for the most part, I hate when they show a couple having sex and the woman is wearing a bra and/or when you can see the sheet is directly between them. I don’t know many people who have sex with their bra on and I have never heard of having a sheet between you while having sex. They don’t have to show them nude but at least make it look like they are having sex is all I ask.

    • Denise says:

Do we have to pick just one? Both have come under heavy fire.

    • Sloane Wyatt says:

@Pretty: Your link – Loves it!

  3. Abra says:

I think she would annoy me less if she would just jump up and down shouting, “look at me! look at me! I’m edgy and relevant!”
Fix your shit and stop talking about it. She said it herself, she’s an adult now. So, stop with the teenage attention seeking.

    • dorothy says:

This! Couldn’t have said it better myself.

    • Ruffian9 says:

Thank you. This is (yet another) attention grab. Period. I don’t believe she’s any more fu**ed up than anyone else. Knock it off, twit, it’s getting old.

      • Hakura says:

@Ruffian9 – When I read the “f***ed up” in the title of this post, I thought she was finally admitting she was drunk or high when she did the performance. xD I was like “She’s finally admitting it!”

Imagine my disappointment, when I found out it was just another oh-so-teenage “I do stupid shit bc I’m f***ed up. I have tons of problems so I’m going to be an ass.” excuse.

    • Nicolette says:

      +1.

  4. Maria says:

    Harry’s quote is nagl.

Miley IS trying to garnish the attention of a younger audience BUT it’s not a celebrity’s job to educate children, it falls on the parents. Plus Harry is in a boy band with rumoured flings and whatnot, STFU.

As for Miley, meh, she needs to go away.

    • pao la says:

I’m not taking sides.. but i think being in a boy band and having many girls or lots of flings in their private time has nothing to do with performing almost naked rubbing your bum on a 36 years old guy while you stick your tongue out of your mouth in front of millions of people. I think it’s inappropriate, tacky and gross

  5. Arock says:

Someone please take the word ‘ratchet’out if her vocab, confiscate her grill, and tell her to sit the F down. She’s going to exhaust everyone before she’s 23.

  6. pao la says:

To me all this is a desperate cry for help. So hopefully she won’t end up like lindsay Lohan or Amy winehouse. For the happy ending though she’d need parents with some balls and not somebody that just supports and defends her no matter what. It’s just called EDUCATION WITH RULES.

    • Miffy says:

The difference with Amy Winehouse and Lindsay Lohan is not once did either of them try to brandish any issues in order to look edgy. They were/are just messed up and it showed. Miley looking like a tool on stage isn’t in the same league, no matter how much she says otherwise.

  7. Amelia says:

For what it’s worth, in my (little) experience, the people who are genuinely ‘f*cked up’ and have a suitcase full of issues to contend with in life, don’t generally give interviews admitting so and/or use it as an excuse for their iffy behaviour.

    • emmie_a says:

Well said Amelia. Makes me think of an extreme case of someone being messed up but unaware: Amanda Bynes. Miley, on the other hand, is very aware of what she is doing and is just making excuses for her raunchy behavior.

Unless she’s talking about being messed up on drugs, that I totally believe. I think the drugs contribute to her behavior and her weight loss — I’m not buying the eating right and yoga.

    • Miffy says:

      Thank you!!!
I’ve been trying to verbalise that for a while but couldn’t find the words.
People who have legitimate issues don’t broadcast them to try to shake an image they don’t like anymore.

    • Side-Eye says:

Well said, Amelia! People with real issues tend to stay quiet about them, either because they’re in denial, unaware, or ashamed and don’t want it broadcast to the world.

      • Rll says:

Sounds exactly like me when I was 20 – its total Demi Moore in St Elmo’s Fire ” boohoo, i’m so fucked up, my daddy doesn’t love me so i’m hoovering up coke” – self created drama cuz transitioning from late teens to proper adult is hard sometimes

    • Lucy says:

THIS! I mean, five years ago an incredibly talented actor was killed by his own demons and left a daughter and a great career behind him (plus a well-deserved post-mortem Academy Award). Two years ago, one of the biggest singers of our generation joined an unfortunate group of equally talented artists because of the same reasons. And only ONE MONTH AGO, a promising and loved young man who did EVERYTHING he could to help himself was defeated by his addictions. Talk about SERIOUSLY fucked-up. If only Miley had an idea of what that is. I really hope she doesn’t end up like them.

  8. Side-Eye says:

I need someone to inform this girl that she has no ass. And then I really need for her to fade into the mist because I’m tired. I’m tired of her, I’m tired of her annoying, desperate ass defenders and fans, I’m tired og her horrible music I’ve never liked at any stage in her career, I’m tired of people acting like twerking us ths new thing. I’m tired. And Liam has been left her ass which us probably why she’s trying so hard to besexy.

  9. bns says:

    She’s still talking?

  10. Eleonor says:

It doesn’t matter how hard she tries, she will always be a Rihanna wannabe.

    • emmie_a says:

A Rihanna wannabe with Gwen Stefani’s styling. I saw pictures of Miley the other day and she looks EXACTLY like Gwen did years ago. At least Miley could try to be original at something?!

  11. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

Does she not have a PR team? Someone that would coach her about what to say after the VMAs? Jeez!

    • Alexandria says:

The sad thing is, is that this could very well be coming from her PR teams’ collective mind. She’s getting us talking right? Then their job is done; negative publicity or not.

    • Carolyn says:

This is her PR strategy. The worst thing that could happen to Miley is that everyone forgets about her.

Let’s face it…she doesn’t really have much talent and she’s squandering what she has. Has no skills besides a questionable level of acting & singing – what normal job could she possibly hold?

This “scandal” is PR Gold. She is just copying all those who have done it before her..Madonna etc.

Surely Liam still isn’t with her. She’s brand/image damaging now.

  12. Londongal says:

Yup. I don’t doubt that doesn’t work out, she’s clearly a fan of the ‘Columbian plan’. Poor thing!

    • ncboudicca says:

My thoughts, too. I believe she used to work out, but I don’t see any muscle tone on the girl anymore, she’s just skinny.

  13. erika says:

Proof in da pudding that you change n shed your skin for a new one,… like a snake!! Sooooo much in your 20’S

Cough cough liam did ya hear? Break it off and grow some balls…wouldn’t THAT be a change!!!

  14. aquarius64 says:

First she wants to put it out there that performance and her image were planned and a stroke of genius, now she is trying to sell to the public her nasty persona is due to her Disney entrenched childhood. Not buying it. Miley’s upset about the continuing blowback on her VMA performance, especially when many think she’s suffering from emotional problems. While that shock-fest has run up sales and downloads for select songs and her up-coming CD, I think there’s a fear of long-term damage to her career. The industry may see her as a joke now, not a serious artist, because of the performance. When she’s invited to shows, will it be as a respected peer, or a rodeo clown expected to do something outrageous to help goose the ratings? Don’t let the bragging tweets fool you, this is a little girl lost.

  15. Easi says:

I like what Harry said. It’s refreshing and the young girls in their fan base need to hear that.

  16. sam says:

when she starts acting her age, maybe people will see her as a woman and not a child.

her father and mother should talk to her about the damage she’s doing to the kids who watch her. she must be a spoiled brat if she can’t see that.

  17. Catspyjamas says:

I find it very strange that Miley speaks about eating so healthy on the road to the point she can’t even have a cola and then on the other hand clearly implies she is using drugs. Is that part of your healthy living ?

    • Mon says:

Yea, and she also claims that everyone is impressed by her ability to only sleep for a bit…. Guess that’s what drugs do to you! Haha, this will surely change when she gets older…
Also, does she really need to act out by showing her tounge all the time cos you know she is so f@@ked up?? What a lame excuse!

    • Kathryn says:

Agreed. You can’t be miss health and wellness and smoke cigs like a chimney and do drugs, which in my opinion, includes, coke, Molly, and pills in addition to the obvious weed. I also do believe her claim she doesn’t work out. She is wasting away, dramatic weight loss, no tone, and recent pictures of her waist show how tiny she is getting. I think she smokes and drinks and very rarely eats.

  18. pfeiffer87 says:

For what it’s worth I saw the Harry Styles interview and I’m pretty sure he’s joking : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QsyB2JgutY

  19. floretta50 says:

Miley is not being honest, and twerking is nothing new,I don’t know where the word twerking comes from in the US. Miley was trying to do a Rhianna, because rhianna has been photographed dancing like that several times in her native island of Barbadous, but that dance is part of the native culture for decades, dance derived from African slaves bought to the Caribbean and South America. people in the islands dance that way all the time, that is what Miley was trying do on stage but she looked silly because she does not have the behind, rhythm, body movement she simply did not know what she was doing. Just go to the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Jamaica any place in the Caribbean and you will see the natives dancing like that.

    • islandwalker says:

I live on a family island in the Bahamas. That dancing would be considered very inappropriate here.

  20. MademoiselleRose says:

From what I can tell, that’s the first time she’s acknowledged her bad behaviour, even though she lamely tries to blame it on “issues”. Dare we hope she might tone it down, or even better, go away?

Poor thing, that performance on the VMAs is going to follow her for the rest of her life. I’m sure never going to get that horror show out of my head ever.

  21. Jennifer12 says:

Miley, feel free to come visit me at work and you will see kids who truly struggle daily. Please stop whining, get off the drugs, stop patting yourself on the back for being a poseur, and work on getting it together.

  22. MegG says:

    Sick to death with Miley.

  23. Lucy2 says:

She sounds like a mess. For a while it seemed she would escape the child star issues, but she’s tanking fast.

  24. Jaded says:

She’s definitely on something to act this way – probably coke, it can turn the nicest person into a complete walking nightmare. With her drastic change of personality and looks, only sleeping an hour or 2 a night and behaving like a porn star all the time, it’s pretty apparent that something other than her management team is creating this monster. I see burn-out coming in 3…2…1…(and not a minute too soon)

  25. AllyUK says:

Maybe it’s a less a gender issue and more a talent issue. Miley’s performance reeked of desperation and therefore came across as obscene and embarrassing.

  26. homegrrrrl says:

As a parent, I’d never put my kids in front if the vma show, and then complain. So that pov is absurd. It’s on the level of putting cola in your baby’s bottle then blaming Pepsi for dental damage

  27. claire says:

Typical child-star syndrome. They can’t handle being by themselves for more than 5 minutes. They feel invisible or forgotten if they aren’t receiving praise and attention every second of the day, so they constantly do outrageous things or cause drama to fill the void. It’s just not healthy for kids to be raised this way.

  28. Jayna says:

All she does is work? Spare me. She isn’t on tour touring and traveling in between with nonstop promotion. So how much work can she possibly be doing while off tour and working on a new album which has been finished for a while waiting on its release, and now basically for months all she’s done is some promotion. She probably sleeps to noon most days. Go get a real job and tell us how much you work

P.S. If you only sleep a few hours consistently, it’s because you hatibually take drugs and can’t sleep.

  29. Talie says:

Liam and Miley have probably been over since January Jones (where has she been, by the way?!) — My guess is their pr teams felt it created mystery to just have them stay in each other’s lives.

  30. Lucy says:

Miley…I know you can’t stop, but perhaps you should give it a try. For your own good. You’re better than this!

  31. jenirow says:

Billy Ray and his wife have done a real good job, lol. She has her head up her rump and has lost the public’s respect…she’s only 20. I can only guess what classy, ladylike behavior we will be subjected to next.

  32. Garrett says:

Miley, if you say you’re a mess, than don’t talk about it. FIX IT. It’s not too late before you go down a dark road.

  33. The Original G says:

When did discussing Horny Montana become a thing?

  34. bettyrose says:

I know several people who eat gluten free for health reasons and swear by the lifestyle – but other than bread & pasta (which are certainly caloric), what other regular part of our diet has gluten in it? I’m just saying that being “gluten free” does not preclude one from maintaining an all french fries & ice cream diet, so it’s a weird thing to promote for weight loss (as opposed to preventing digestive problems and migraines).

    • Alexandria says:

Oh don’t yo know? Gluten-free is a pseudonym for cocaine. So anytime she says “gluten-free”, please insert “cocaine”.

    • claire says:

Besides the obvious, lots of things. Cakes, sauces, cereal, chips, etc., etc. Gluten and soy are in practically everything, especially soy. That one makes it almost impossible to eat out.

    • bettyrose says:

Alexandria – Ohhh *that* gluten free diet. Got it now. 🙂

Claire – gotcha. I didn’t think of those things because as a vegan I don’t eat them anyway, but I do eat whole grain bread (the kind with no honey) and drink the occasional beer, neither of which seems that bad to me in moderation. And I do sometimes indulge in baked chips.

  35. Amy says:

I don’t think it’s the twerking itself that is inappropriate. She can twerk as much as she wants, I don’t care. It’s more the way she dresses and the way she talks. And the fact she danced (while she was twerking, though I didn’t see that really as twerking, that was grinding, saw it plenty at college parties) up on a married man (didn’t help he just went along with it) and humped a foam finger. That’s not dancing, that’s just plain… I don’t even have a word for it!

    • bettyrose says:

The married man thing bothered me less (it is the entertainment industry) than the giant teddy bears and foam finger. IMO, a well choreographed sexy/sultry routine can be amazing, but keep it in the adult realm. Mixing immaturity and childhood images with overt sexuality is crossing a line, even at the VMAs.

  36. Yes, I'm That Leah says:

She needs to get some help.

  37. megsie says:

… and sometimes dumb people do dumb stuff

  38. DreamyK says:

I can’t listen to her song or Blurred Lines anymore. They both ruined it for me.

  39. Saffie says:

I probably should stop reading about this girl because she really annoys me..I’m f8cking sick of seeing and hearing about her. She makes me quite stabby and I’m really not that type of person. Fiance left you? Big deal, you saved yourself from what would have been a short-lived marriage followed by a nasty divorce. No one takes you or your “music” seriously? Have you looked in the mirror? Lastly, why is everyone so vested in this girl’s petty problems when there is so much turmoil around us? So many people under insured or not insured at all including many children. People walking on eggshells and living on a dime and a prayer than that don’t get hurt, injured or sick. And this girl has the audacity to worry about the fact that she is unhappy? I have not an ounce of sympathy for her because she has everything at her disposal to get help. She is financially so well off that she could choose to not work for a few years while she comes to terms with her issues. But it’s not going to happen because the thing that she is most addicted to besides whatever drugs she is using..is attention and the spotlight. She is used to approval and adoration and she just isn’t getting it. That’s essentially why she’s in everyone’s face. Grow the f*ck up and take ownership of your life. There is absolutely no good excuse why you can’t do it. I think I’m going to need to pop a Xanax now.

    • Kathryn says:

I’m sure every time something/someone pisses you off or you have a bad day, you immediately think of the starving children in Africa and cheer the hell up. Yeah, right.
Maybe at the end of the day you come to that realization and decide to move on, but everyone has ups and downs in their life including you and saying others’ problems aren’t “real” enough or big enough problems? Everyone views big and small problems in different ways. This isn’t about Miley, but don’t act like everyone should write off problems because they don’t seem like a “big deal” to YOU.

  40. Stephanie says:

Tish and Billy Ray are just cheering her on! Smh. They must have taken the same parenting classes as Biscuit Kicker and White Oprah.

  41. Denise says:

I believe that she doesn’t work out – where’s the muscle tone? Two weeks of weights and targeted lower body work would be enough to give a fat-free body obvious muscles. Her slim figure comes from not eating enough, and other things.

  42. Zoe says:

Gawd, she’s disgusting. I’m amazed at how this wild thing with mediocre talent, VERY average looking, and over the top haughty brat got to where she is today. Just the fact that she has so few scruples that she promotes everything she has to the extreme, shoves it down our throats — if you will. There are soooo many far better and definitely more beautiful singers out there. Unfortunately this gal knows way too well how to promote herself, however much it disgusts most of us. What a shame for the young girls who idolized her as Hannah and what a disgusting example she sets for them.

If I were her parents, I would be hiding my head in shame…oops, I forgot….I’m sure she pays for a far more luxurious lifestyle for them. I know dad is a star, but he’s never been remotely close to her level of income or stardom, if that’s what you call it. I’m sure she makes their lives far better so they suck/wimp it up and act proud. (barf!)

  43. Au de toilet says:

If lady aga and rihanna had a child…voila!!

  44. ncboudicca says:

Hellooooo…she only has to sleep 45 min, and people are “impressed” with her because of that? Let’s see, no need to sleep and delusions of grandeur. Name that drug!

  45. Dommy Dearest says:

Miley, squats don’t take much of anything other than gravity and legs. Her interview makes me think the whole VMA blowout was set up to do that, about being a mess. They have her scripted for that all to happen so she can make a comeback. I’m not into it, Cyrus. Not at all. I would rather watch a marathon of Hannah Montana than watch you as your new self. Nope nope nope. Stop giving marijuana a bad name and start acting like the privileged girl you were born into.

  46. eatingpie says:

Using the excuse of being “f-ked” as an explanation for her behaviour up to this point is seriously rude and makes other people who actually have problems look bad.

Grow the hell up, Miley, and learn how to face your own mistakes without making up excuses.

  47. Kathryn says:

Her attention seeking behavior is not new, it’s been the same thing since she was 14. She is obviously very insecure and craves attention for whatever reason…..the girl clearly has issues. I think it’s rude to discount her issues and compare them to others, saying she is rich and needs to shut up. Money doesn’t make your problems go away, if anything it makes them worse. We don’t tell ourselves that in daily life do why would we tell someone we don’t know to do the same? Celebrities are just people, they’re humans, they make mistakes, and they have feelings. We see interviews arranged and released by her PR team, which is just the surface, I’m sure there is much more than we know going on. I believe Miley’s public persona is over the top on purpose and not really her. She probably doesn’t know who she is so she is trying on all these personalities and seeing what works.

    • Saffie says:

God, no one is saying being wealthy absolves you from problems and that having money means your issues are less credible or real. It just makes it easier to get access to therapists, rehab resources, etc.

  48. Katie says:

Oh please….. She chooses to be on the road 24/7. If she really needed a “break” she could take one. I find her fake.

  49. Carolyn says:

Miley’s PR team are now putting it out that she has been “misquoted” and that the article has been “selectively edited”.

She’s now being described in Aus media as being a pariah.

  50. M79 says:

Aside from the fact that this Miley business is overly hyped and people are freaking out about something that, as Miley points out, has been done before and is nothing new, people should cut her some slack. It’s true, she has never had a normal life. It’s the trap of celebrity; there’s nothing normal about how you live your life or the bizarre world you grow up in, then people expect you to exist within the confines of what they see as normal behavior or tell you to grow up. Child stars don’t have normality and they often lack key figures in their life that give them direction. In Miley’s case, her father was likely gone a great deal touring and working, and who knows what she had to deal with as a child – all of those horror stories of talent managers that abuse stars and the other insane happenings in Hollywood, kids growing up without someone to tell them no or to set limits on them. How are they then supposed to grow up well adjusted or behave just like everyone else? The girl has issues, she’s admitted that, and no one should be surprised given what her life is probably like. I’m giving her a pass on this one and think, when empathy is applied, it must be hideous growing up working as a kid and in an industry that doesn’t tell you no, while everyone around you likes you because you have things they don’t and it’s not genuine. I can see how it would be confusing. No thanks!

  51. kiyoshigirl says:

The girl doesn’t need to “work out” as in a gym or health club. Her job IS a workout. She’s a dancer and singer, both of which could be considered vigorous workouts. Cracks me up when people like her, whose jobs involve very active physical work, claim they don’t have to work out. Get it straight. You work out for a living girl.
