Duchess Kate repeats a baby-blue Murberry coat: pretty or budget?

wenn29973249

Woohoo, the Duchess of Cambridge did her second event within a 24 hour period. Last night, Kate got to pet an awesome ginger cat and watch a movie and call it “work.” Today, Kate made a trip to the Nelson Trust Women’s Centre in Gloucestershire. She met with women who are recovering from abusive relationships and traumas, and it was part of Kate’s keenness on mental health and psychological support for everyone in need.

As for what she wore… the Daily Mail says this Mulberry coat is a repeat, but I didn’t recognize it, remember it or see it in our archives, strangely enough. I mean, I’ll take the DM’s word for it that this is a repeat, but it’s new to me. Kate does have about a dozen coats just in this shade of baby-blue though, although none of them look like they were picked out of the floor of her closet like this one. Kate actually took her coat off once she was inside, and she revealed a repeated Dolce & Gabbana skirt, the same skirt she wore when she “blogged” for an hour inside of Kensington Palace. I don’t mind the black tights and the black turtleneck, although I think this whole outfit could have been rethought. Like, maybe the coat is wrong… or maybe the skirt is wrong? All together, it’s not great. Also, the black tights-with-a-short-skirt, paired with a turtleneck, is what I wore constantly in college. That’s what this reminds me of – college fashion.

Maybe it’s just the crappy tailoring on Kate’s clothes these days, but I’m getting pregnancy vibes from her. If she’s not knocked up already, she will be soon, I’m sure.

PS… What’s up with the band-aid on her hand? Did Bob the Cat scratch the sh-t out of her?

Her hair needs to be pulled back-she’d look so much more polished.

  2. Locke Lamora says:

I love it. It looks slitghly 60s mod girl.
And her hair looks really good.

  3. PHAKSI says:

Great individual pieces, they just don’t go together. This is why a stylist is necessary

    • HK9 says:

Can we take up a collection and just send her the stylist?? I’m so tired of this.

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

ITA – i particularly love the coat but the whole outfit screams mismatch office wear.

She’s upping her appearances as A) Willy has more than her and B) its remembrance fortnight so there are going to be many events leading up to the main one next Sunday where she has to show face.

At least she’s doing a little bit more than usual for her patronages – they normally don’t get this much of her time.

      • Poppy says:

Shame she wasn’t thinking like that back in March when she pulled out of presenting shamrocks to the Irish Guards. After all we wouldn’t want to get too reliant on her would we. And yes the blue $1500 Mulberry coat is a repeat – she wore it to walk from home across the front lawn & onto a British tax payer funded royal helicopter! That public engagement was memorable! How about knee high boots instead of shoes!

      • vava says:

I was sort of thinking some block heeled ankle boots might salvage this look. I think the coat would look better with something other than this, though (wool trousers…………). I do like the skirt, tights and turtleneck separates, but I think the shoes are boring as usual.

    • Kate says:

Preach. Great coat, but not with the outfit. A good stylist would know that.

I actually really do love the outfit underneath. The pics above are the not the best of it, but I loved the other pics I saw.

  4. BonnieJean says:

She looks great. Love her hair & she’s got great legs. That’s all I got.

  5. Alleycat says:

I love, love, love skirts with tights. I don’t like her hair here but I would wear this outfit in a heartbeat.

  6. Imqrious2 says:

I love black and powder blue. I’d definitely wear this. I think she looks great.

  7. Kitty says:

Honestly do people really believe she would be a great Queen consort?

  8. vava says:

    I’m getting pregnancy vibes too.

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Me too – her face is fuller. There has been speculation for a while that they’d have another baby, particularly now that Pippa is getting married next summer. Many people commented that she’d be pregnant for her sisters wedding.

    • mbh12 says:

      Me too.

  9. Angel says:

Yeah for separates, not these separates. Too collegiate.

  10. susanne says:

It took me a minute, but I now recognize this look.
Seventeen magazine, back when I was seventeen. Like 1990.
She nailed it, if that’s what she was going for.

  11. Adi says:

someone who works only a few hours a year- how can such a person age so quickly?

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Its a mix of many things: genetics, smoking, constant dieting and sun damage. All the Middleton woman look older than their years. Plus it’s been said that she finds public duty stressful and it caused her to go premature grey (the palace released a weird statement about that a year or so after they got married as justification as to why she suddenly stopped doing engagements for a while that year).

      • Adi says:

Digital Unicorn – I think Carole looks great for her age. her kids are another story though. & She chased william for 10+ years , public duty was non negotiable with the endless perks of the job…and what duty does she do anyway ! Her lack of work ethic is appalling.

      • Cee says:

God, they’re ridiculous! My cousin in law, who witnessed a colleague being shot down in front of her, went premature grey. All of her hair is grey.

I can’t believe they used this excuse.

      • LAK says:

That statement is stuck in my brain. It was such an outlier and utterly ridiculous.

      • Lorelai says:

Omg, the palace actually said that? For real? Does anyone have a link because that is just…

    • Kitty says:

OMG what is wrong with her face?

      • Tough Cookie says:

She looks so tired. Maybe Nanny Maria had the night off and Waity had to pinch-hit in the care of her own children after having to work at a film premiere. It’s royal abuse, dammit.

      • Lorelai says:

        “Royal abuse”

        Dead!

    • Cee says:

Sun damage and smoking, with certain genetics, will cause this. Extreme dieting with very little concern for nutrients and vitamins will also age your skin.

Remember that article about her face melting off? Seems like it. By the time she’s 50 she will have jowels.

      • Gloria says:

By all reports she eats really healthy though – lots of veg, some fruit, little alcohol, fish, lean meats, etc?

      • Cee says:

@Gloria – I have no idea what her diet is like (nor her fitness regime) but her body’s weight is not natural nor healthy. She won’t be able to carry on like this for long as she ages.

    • vava says:

Wow, that is really an awful photo of her. She does look hung over.

      • Rina says:

I hope that that photo of Kate was a bad angle. But we have seen many like that one over the years. One can only speculate why she appears fretted and haggard.

    • cindyp says:

OMG, her skin is awful, hair is a mess.

  12. Cee says:

Love the coat and colour, I just don’t think it matches the rest of the outfit.

It seems she is stepping out more for her patronages. Good.

  13. LAB says:

I want to take her damn clutches and throw them in the river.
The clothes all seem like a horrible mismatch-“these are all clean and black always matches so I will wear them!” seems to have been the thought. The coat is also too big and bulky for her extremely tiny (these days) frame. I am fine with the tights and skirt, but the rest. Meh.
I have thick, curly hair and you can cut layers from the underneath, to make it look less bulky-perhaps she should try that? Also, it needs to be cut into a “U” shape in the back to look less heavy as well.

  14. Tough Cookie says:

She looks terrible. Two events within 24 hours? Is the Royal Family trying to kill her? My God.

  15. Cerys says:

I agree with previous comments – nice separates but not together. She definitely needs a stylist and a major hair makeover. As we have seen her twice in 24 hours she will no doubt need a holiday to recover.

  16. Delta Juliet says:

I love all of this and I would totally wear it myself, but I am also not a fashionista so take that for what it’s worth.

  17. Chaucer says:

Like the coat, unsure about the black tights though. Slacks would be have been great!

Y’all are quite fashionable here so maybe someone can help me out? I have a charity dinner, cocktail wear, for a school foundation next week. Thoughts on outfits?

    • Egla says:

Well wear what makes you feel good and comfortable (if it takes more then two hours think carefully what your shoe wear will be) but a simple dress with a solid color and with some accessories or jewelries will do. It’s not a high fashion event. If you manage to get a dress that has little sparkles in it even better. Oh and think about the makeup. Something sexy but subtle.

  18. Citresse says:

It’s not a bad outfit. Must be chilly there… the coat looks heavy. Kate does look fuller in face- prepping for the morning sickness of pregnancy perhaps, if she’s not already in the early stages. Her hair looks really messy in the last photo where she’s saying goodbye, shaking hands. She needs a new haircut (not the gringe look again) and some new shoes.

  19. bluhare says:

I guess I don’t know what an “embargoed” engagement means. Someone said something to that effect on Twitter — no one is suppposed to know about it until afterwards? I don’t get it.

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Yes – it means that the press and host organisation can’t release any information (photo’s etc..) till after the event. They can’t even report on it during. Wonder how long she stayed? Her max her visits on her own is around 45mins.

    • Cee says:

Yes. I don’t even know if the press in allowd in.

    • bluhare says:

That’s interesting. I thought the whole point was to get publicity for the organization you’re working for.

Although if I recall correctly the last time she went to a prison that was secret until afterwards too. I don’t know why the other engagement wasn’t publicized ahead of time, though. Denying media access reduces the awareness they’re supposed to be advocating, I would think. I just don’t understand them; I truly don’t. I can see the prison not being released ahead of time (I guess?), but not the other one.

    • MinnFinn says:

She was at a center for abused women. I assume the embargo was because they want the location of the shelter kept a secret.

      • The Original Mia says:

There’s a picture with the address in it. So, it’s not an attempt to keep the location private. It’s an attempt by the Cambridges to control the media.

  20. Pansy says:

I may be in the minority, but I like that someone who obviously has a ton of money at her expense for clothing actually repeats pieces she likes. Like I’d LOOOOVE to have that kind of budget, but I feel like there are still pieces I’d wear over and over because they make me feel good. Kind of gives her a little “real world”-ness.

  21. Tourmaline says:

I like it but yeah it reminds me of what I wore in the late 90s. So maybe I’m just nostalgic.

I agree she’s probably pregnant. I knew she’d definitely be pregnant for Pippas wedding in May.

She does look rough– was that cat movie premiere unusually exhausting?

  22. Lainey says:

God in that pic kp retweeted she looks so uncomfortable.

  23. Rocio says:

I don’t like baby blue in general but I like what she was wearing. Maybe a different coat would have been better but it’s not like when she goes into flight attendant cosplay (no disrespect to real flight attendants).

  24. hogtowngooner says:

I really like the outfit. The coat is heavenly. I only wish she’d put her hair up more often. A sophisticated ponytail would have tidied up the look.

  25. vespernite says:

Its those stupid shoes! I hate those myriad dumb pumps she wears in every conceivable color. She needs way better shoe game. Conservative, boring ass aristocrat or not….WORK ON YOUR SHOE GAME!! UGH! (jumps off soap box)

    • HappyMom says:

This outfit is crying out for booties or boots. And a cute pony-tail. That’s what Princess Mary would have done and looked great.

  26. Rina says:

I really like Kate’s powder blue coat.

    The clutches are crutches.

  27. Carolind says:

I don’t think she will be pregnant again for another year, if ever. Don’t know why, but I felt sorry for her at this morning’s engagements. She looked out of her depth sitting at the table with the other women at the Abuse Centre. What if she really didn’t know what she was getting into and hates it? What if she cannot eat sometimes because she has a nervous stomach? I was like that once. Horrible!

    • Kitty says:

She knew what she was getting into. She just not good at being a royal. This was not her path or destiny.

      • Carolind says:

How could she know what she was getting in to until she actually did it? She maybe thought she knew. Surely, too, your other two sentences have contradicted your first?

      • Lorelai says:

Carolind, ITA. I think that pre-wedding, she thought (if she even thought about it at all…) that there were maybe a handful of appearances a year, such as Trooping the Colour – aka standing on a balcony waving and smiling at the peasants for five minutes a year – and the occasional state dinner at Buckingham Palce or whatnot.

It doesn’t seem like she expected to have any sort of regular, unglamorous workload at all. She still looks slightly shell-shocked most of the time when she’s “on duty.”

It almost makes me feel sorry for her, too. There are some things that you can only understand by living them.

      • Citresse says:

Kate knew exactly what she was getting into… she was fully aware of the workload of other members of the royal family… she’s just as lazy as her husband..and likely one of the reasons why William married her.

  28. sage says:

Her heels look to small for her feet or her feet are swollen.

  29. Elizabeth says:

Are her tights navy blue? They don’t match her shoes.

  30. pio says:

first picture, she really looks like chicken-legged
    no feminine features

  31. JaneS87 says:

Think the headline has an error – the brand is ‘Mulberry’ (like the actual berry) rather than Murberry 🙂

  32. xo says:

I’m sorry about this, but – outfit aside – I don’t believe KM has the interest or inclination to connect with those women. I consistently get the impression that appearances like these are photo opportunities for her. Nothing more.

  33. nareeman says:

it’s Mulberry (with an l) not to be confused with Burberry 😉

  34. Fallon says:

I call pregnancy. Her face has that same worn look she had in the beginning with George. And the super flat parted hair isn’t helping.
