Sandra Bullock in Alberta Ferretti at the Bird Box premiere in Berlin: lovely?

There’s been a lot of buzz about Sandra Bullock’s Netflix horror film, Bird Box, which starts streaming on December 21. I love post apocalyptic movies and am so excited for this one. You can see the trailer below and the premise is that something outside that people see causes them to go crazy and harm themselves and others. The only cure is to stay inside or to go outside blindfolded. Sandra’s character has two young children she’s protecting, (it’s unclear from the trailer if they’re both hers), so it has that added layer of scariness. It also features John Malkovich, Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight) and Sarah Paulson.

Sandra was at the Berlin premiere yesterday in this one shoulder Alberta Ferretti gown featuring rainfall-like sequins. It seems like we’ve seen variations of this pattern on her dress so many times, but I still like it. It’s more of an awards show gown than a premiere dress, but she looks gorgeous in it. My only complaint is that it would look more striking in a darker color. Imagine if it was gunmetal grey or darker with those sequins. Incidentally I was looking through our archives for older Alberta Ferretti gowns and I found this incredible metallic dress that Laura Dern wore to the 2015 Oscars. Ferretti doesn’t always get it right though.

This makes me wonder what’s going on with Sandra’s relationship. She’s been with Bryan Randall for over three years now and we have heard engagement rumors about them for almost as long. She tragically lost her father this fall along with two of her dogs around the same time, so this year has been really hard for her. I hope she’s ok. Sandra’s two children, son Louis, eight, and daughter Laila, six, must be a real comfort and joy to her. During her press tour for Oceans 8 this summer she told some cute stories about their sibling rivalry. (Sidenote if you have not seen Oceans 8 yet, rent it! It’s a lot of fun.)

Here’s the trailer for Bird Box. I’m so watching this over the holidays.

Her frozen face was SO distracting in Oceans 8. She also seems over the last few years (not just this year which is understandably difficult with her family losses) to have lost her joie de vivre in appearances and movies.

    • Snazzy says:

OMG Yes, I found that too! It really bothered me. I mean that last scene, where she’s sitting in with the martini glass and says ” you would’ve loved it”? It doesn’t look like her at all.

I was so saddened that she felt the need to mess around with her face like that.

Love Sandy, big feminist, went to see Oceans 8 twice just to support but don’t get it twisted. It is a shity shit movie grl. Hate to say it. Cannot wait for Widows tho. Looks incredible, like what Oceans 8 should have been (badass)

    • Dani says:

These pictures are also so sad. I was watching Lake House last night on netflix (call me, Keanu!!!) and she was so so so so beautiful in it.

      • Lauren II says:

Check out Sandra and Nicole Kidman’s natural faces in Practical Magic…wonderful movie. Sandy was so stunningly beautiful and enchanting..

  2. Common Sense says:

I can’t wait to watch bird box, it looks so interesting and intense. Glad I have a Netflix subscription, plus I love Sandra Bullock!

  3. Jessica says:

Interesting how some people are criticised for perceived cosmetic work but not others. She looks fine but for whatever reason she thinks she looks better when she doesn’t smile, per her own words.

I’m glad she cut her hair but I don’t like this style. The dress is fine but not amazing.

  4. onerous says:

IDK. This movie seems like a rehashing of A Quiet Place, right?

    • Jessica says:

This is a movie adaption of a book that was published before A Quiet Place was released.

    • Suze says:

In broad terms it is a similar concept – creatures that harm us based on one of our senses. But when you look at the characters and plot they are quite different from one another. The book came out in 2014, I want to say, and is truly fantastic. I’m looking forward to the movie!

This trailer looks fun. Can’t believe Susanne Bier is the director and I love me some Malkovich. Popcorn ready.

  6. Louisa says:

I just read the book the movie is based on and I can’t recommend it enough. Really exciting and terrifying so I can’t wait to watch this.

  7. Eliza says:

    Love Sandra.

Hate the center-part, dark silver shadow and dress.

Girl, get a new team, you’re too good for this mess

  8. EG says:

This movie is getting terrible reviews (56% on Rotten Tomatoes—ouch!) but I’ll watch it anyway. I love the author of the book, Josh Malerman. He’s a truly original voice. I just read his gothic Western novel, Unbury Carol, and it’s so good! I hope it gets made into a (better) movie too.

Malerman and his girlfriend, Alison Laakko, are cool artsy people to follow on Instagram.

Hair and makeup are not good. Eye makeup is too dark. Dress is meh. I did not like Ocean’s 8 at all. It was a big disappointment for me. I am a big Sandra fan but in that film she was phoning it in. Then again, she wasn’t helped by the stupid, boring script.

  10. Valerie says:

I’m just looking at the blurry budgie behind her, lmao.

  11. lucy2 says:

Sounds good, I’ll have to check it out.
I don’t love the dress, but I think it might be the color. Hope she’s doing well after a rough time.

  12. Pandy says:

I really like the waist line of the dress, very pretty beading. Color is a bit meh.

  13. Bgirl says:

Before she went to the premiere she was seen with Bryan und the Kids strolling the christmas fair on Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. They looked happy. They enjoyed some german x-mas stuff, like Glühwein and Bratwurst . Well, her german roots…

  14. a reader says:

I think she looks stunning. yes, she’s had some work, but to me, she still looks like Sandra.

Also, am I the only one who has recently read that Louis is transgender? I seem to recall that Sandra said something about her “daughters” in a recent interview. And sorry, not trying to gossip about children or cause them any undue burden…. that just stuck out to me because she seemed very supportive of Louis and I wish more trans kids had the same kind of support.

ETA: this was my mistake. I was thinking of Charlize Theron and her daughters.
