The Cambridges are ‘working flat-out’ while other royals are ‘nowhere to be seen’

cambridge2

On March 19th, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did a photo-op at an emergency call center in London, where they met frontline healthcare workers in the middle of a pandemic. William and Kate stood too close to the workers (no social distancing) and William made jokes about how they’re all going to be watching too much television, because he cannot envision what it’s actually like for frontline healthcare workers in a pandemic. This has been part of William and Kate’s new pandemic energy, where William is getting embiggened as a “statesman” and Kate… is keen about statesmen, or something. Anyway, as we can now see, that photo-op at the emergency call center wasn’t the only thing they did two Fridays ago – they also posed for keen photos at their desks in Apartment 1 of Kensington Palace.

People are making a big deal about how Kate, a right-handed person, is holding the pen in her left hand. But… I’m a rightie and I usually hold the phone in my right hand too. While it doesn’t feel natural to even pick up a pen with my left hand, it’s possible Kate is A) ambidextrous to some degree or B) simply fidgeting with a pen while she keenly poses for a photo. As for the point of these photos – which were (again!) taken two Fridays ago, as we can see from Kate wearing the same Marks and Spencer suit she wore to the call center – the point is that Kate and William are still “working” because they also made some calls to their patronages. Two Fridays ago. And they want credit for it now.

William and Kate are not leaders. They go where the wind blows. Two weeks ago, they were being told that they should be front and center during the pandemic because something something World War II, and they made a big deal about how they were hitting pause on all of their current work on mental health. After that front-and-center sh-t blew up in their faces, they’re now isolating in Norfolk and… apparently, refocusing on mental health? Why did they not realize that mental health would be a huge issue during a quarantine/public health crisis? Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror had another “poor William and Kate, the Sussexes abandoned them in a time of crisis.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have vowed to “do whatever they can – when the time is right” as the last Royals standing on the front line of the coronavirus battle. The couple have been working “flat out” while other members of The Firm are nowhere to be seen. As Prince Charles was diagnosed with the virus and the Queen and Prince Philip remain in isolation, the Sussexes have fled their Canadian enclave for a new life in Hollywood. But while Meghan left Palace staff “aghast” with news of her Disney film voiceover, William and Kate have displayed an iron will, focusing on supporting British people and the NHS.

Royal sources told the Sunday Mirror: “In extraordinary times, you need an extraordinary effort. The Duke and Duchess have links to many sectors, the willingness to show unity with the country and an ability to bring people together. As other family members are out of action, they have been working flat out and stand ready on the front line to do whatever they can but when the time is right. William has spoken of his sense of duty and now, in the midst of this crisis, he feels it more than ever.”

Palace insiders confirmed William and Kate will make further contributions after the lockdown is lifted.

[From The Daily Mirror]

Just a reminder, Harry and Meghan wanted to continue working for the royal family, even after 18 months of smear campaigns and William attempts to exile them. Harry and Meghan were told that they could not work for the royal family part-time, that they were not needed, that they should go away and just be exiled. And now that William and Kate are the only game in town, do I detect some panic setting in? Also, the Keens are “working flat-out”? They’ve been in isolation in Norfolk for 10 days by my count. Plenty of time for William to work on his binge-watching?

Lmao that posed phone call picture. About as real as her teeth by this point.

    • Jessica says:

Posing with a desk phone in front of a blank piece of stationary is not a look that screams “Hardworking.” I bet William loves the shot of him “unawares!” through the door.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Lol. The pieces of paper they put in her “in tray” are probably blank too!

      • Love how the books on her desk are color coordinated to her decor and her outfit. And I’d like to know what idiotic IT staff member set up William’s desk space, Wires everywhere, file cabinet pointing in wrong direction. 🤦🏻‍♀️ And PS, next time change your outfits that way you can really make it seem like you are working over several days instead of a quick photo op visit and back to KP for photos before heliocopting off to Amner. I’m getting about 3 hours over 3 weeks of exhaustingly hard work here by my count.

      • yinyang says:

        @Jessica your comment roflol

      • Emily says:

Kate is keen to cosplay as a 1970s secretary.

      • dlc says:

Omg, so funny! Anyone knowing people working in the I’m home, this would be WAY more believable in casual dress, maybe pnytIl and minimal makeup for Kate?

      • Abena Asantewaa says:

As an avid reader, I will say, no self respecting book lover would arrange books on a working desk. You can tell the books have been removed from the bookcase and displayed on the desk, to give an impression that she is bookish; and a collection of pretty bound books at that, quite contrived, and pathetic. Covid-19 has deprived them of their photo op with their royal engagements, so they are now staging, a pretence of work. The pen in her left hand is a dead giveaway, I know Meghan is ambidextrous, but not kate, in a nutshell, there is no one at the end of the line; FAKE!

    • My3cents says:

That pastel suit and backdrop is just like the 80’s Business Woman Barbie I had.

      • Nic919 says:

Did you have the office / bedroom set where you could store clothes? I had that and then repurposed it when I got more into Jem so it became her office at Starlight Records.

      • tback says:

The hair, the shoulder pads, the salmon polyester suit are hilarious… not to mention the landline, the pen, and the blank stationary do not portray an image of a person “working” in the year 2020.

      • Moneypenny says:

Day to Night Barbie, where you could reverse her pencil skirt? Dead on!

      • Sara says:

Was that the day-to-night Business Barbie? She had the pink skirt suit with the wide brimmed hat for her office job in Manhattan and then you took off the blazer and she was ready to go Dorsia for drinks and blow in her strapless dress?

    • LAB says:

This is actually the perfect stock photo of Kate. “Get your desk work ready!”

      • Yup, Me says:

“Hold your phone but with delicacy and grace, like a strong breeze could whisk it away.”

“Hold your pen in your left hand! You’re just going to jot a quick note!”
        “But I’m right handed.”
“No matter! You’re the Duchess of Cambridge; of course you’re ambidextrous.”

    • Trish Russo says:

The Cambridges understand that they will be on the throne sooner rather than later.

    • minx says:

      So cheesy.

    • NeutralObserver says:

The file cabinet is absolutely killing me.

    • Zazu says:

The Cambridges are clearly socially distancing from their PR team 😂
So staged, especially Kate. So obviously from 2 weeks ago. And a terrible write up that doesn’t share any actual information about improving mental health or tell more about what those non profits actually do.

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ JALowcountry : Good catch on the cabinet. I am guessing the printer was added as a prop for the photo to make William look more action-oriented (OMG, he prints stuff at his own desk and then runs out the door with it with great urgency! Not)

    • Abena Asantewaa says:

William is a leftie, but his right hand is free, ready to take notes? I say FAKE!

  2. bub244 says:

Those photos are making me cringe.

    • L84Tea says:

It’s embarassing looking at these. Priceless!

      • Googooly says:

You know the word Fremdschämen? Feeling ashamed for someone else…

      • Seraphina says:

Embarrassing is the right word and an insult to our intelligence that these two are working.

      • Lee says:

Isn’t it? You would think that they would be embarrassed, I would be, but no they think that they are lovely and are showing the public that they are working hard for their enormous allowance! Another vanity piece for Krazy Kate and Lip Willy!

  3. Ronaldinhio says:

I’m a trauma therapist- every bloody time I hear these two mutter something something mental health something my blood boils
One of their biggest Mental Health patronages in the U.K. supports children in schools by using unpaid counselling students to provide therapy. The parents and students have no idea.

I wish they would find something else to mumble about

    • Lise says:

Wow I did not know that.

    • Ainsley7 says:

The volunteers (who don’t work there full time) are receiving free training. After their year of training, they can get a paying job as a child counselor that they couldn’t get without the training and experience that Place2Be gave them. The UK doesn’t have enough counselors to go around. Exchanging accreditation for them working unpaid 1 day a week for experience isn’t an inherently bad idea. They are a charity after all.

If you have experience with them not making it clear that someone is a volunteer, not properly training or supervising them, then that is another story altogether.

      • Emmitt says:

Harry & Meghan were shamed the other week for pointing people to an organization that provides counselors like this.

      • Ainsley7 says:

@Emmitt- I’m not so much defending Kate as I am the charity.

      • Ronaldinhio says:

Can I be clear and say I have zero axe to grind. I am a trauma therapist with 10+ yrs snr accredited status. I earn bank. This is just wrong. All wrong.
It is a nonsense to say the U.K. doesn’t have enough counsellors or therapists – utter nonsense. What it doesn’t have is enough paying jobs or oversight of those providing servicesor placements. Volunteering one day a week will not give a student accreditation. The U.K. churns out 1000s of counsellors a year at a low level of education. None of them can gain paid paid employment and most end up being exploited by places like Place2Be. As the majority of these workers are women and as they are promised the earth and it comes to nothing at all, ever, for their hard work – it makes me furious. Their lack of candour to the trainees and the clients is disgraceful.
Ainsley – If by training you mean the students counsellors get to do the work of trained therapists for free – well then yes, I guess you could call it training?…The student counsellors work there for free. They get scanty supervision from unqualified clinical supervisors – this is provided more in a company oversight capacity not a clinical excellence capacity. This is because those who supervise them are not qualified to offer clinical supervision. Another way to skim money where provision of guidance and excellence is vital.
The student counsellors are largely never offered paid work at Place2Be post their ‘employment’ as the only paid posts are in the again vastly underpaid quasi supervisory roles. Their ‘business model’ is churn unpaid labour. This is the very worst example of mental health provision – taking advantage of student counsellors and those in need of help.
The company – we can call it a Charity – charges the schools full whack and provides unqualified assistance to children for their mental health. No-one makes clear to the parents, the children, or the schools that the thousands of pounds they are paying is to receive volunteer student service provision. No-one ever and it is unethical.
Have a look at their ‘charitable’ accounts.

This is the problem with Royal head nodding with zero understanding.
Organisations like Place2Be provide the lowest possible level of treatment for literally £0 expenditure and yet those using the service expect it to be gold standard because of the royal seal of approval.

    • Jensies says:

I’m a therapist in the US, and having counseling students do unpaid internships in schools and clinics is common practice in our path to get enough face-to-face hours to graduate and get licensure. So I see nothing wrong with this.

      • Chelle says:

Yep. As part of their practicum.

      • Sara says:

Yep, this. When I needed therapy and didn’t have health insurance i saw a counseling student at a university. She helped me so much. She was closely supervised and reported to the head of the clinic. She wasn’t just flying blind or in her first year of school.

      • Royalwatcher says:

Same – as long as this is disclosed to the clients and parents (for minors). It sounds like the OP is saying that it is NOT disclosed to the clients. I do have a problem with this as it’s misrepresenting their qualifications which is a big no-no.

      • Tok says:

So who actually gets to see a professional therapist, who has graduated? The few who can afford them. This country’s health system is so shameful I hope Coronavirus forces actual changes to happen.

    • Lee says:

Why are the students not being paid? Better yet, why in gods name are they using STUDENTS? Maybe they should be using fully vetted therapist for working with students as they are of a much more delicate mind.

      • Jensies says:

@Lee I get the concern, but students need to get experience somehow, and if only licensed therapists could work with students and other vulnerable populations, those populations would not get care at all, period. And these students ARE vetted. As several folks said above, they have a lot of supervision through their school and their site. More than licensed folks have, actually. They’re an essential part of the system. It’s expected that they’ll get paid once they’re graduated and looking for internships, but not while they’re in school, getting hours for graduation.

  4. Becks1 says:

There was some pushback even at the Fail for this (no, I didn’t go, just saw screenshots) which I found surprising. Photo ops of them in their palace talking to their patronages (shouldn’t they talk to their patronages regularly anyway? Its not like they have that many…..) just looks….stupid.

the thing that makes it really over the top for me though is that they took these pictures two weeks ago, and then were apparently waiting for the perfect moment to release them? And they decided, you know what, NOW is when the British people need to see photos of the fearless leaders….staging phone calls.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

This is clearly jumping on the TQ and BoJo bandwagon which got some interesting press when that photo was released. Also guess who are currently in the press after being chucked under the bus by Trump.

    • What makes any of us believe there is even anyone on the other end of those phones. I’m guessing it was simply —- hold the receiver and look like you’re working.

  5. Digital Unicorn says:

I LOL’d soo hard at these photo’s – they were so obvious and PR stunting they really are trolling us at this point. ‘Look everyone, here we are soooo hard at work, making phone calls trying to look like we give a sh!t, all dressed up business like with our land lines, note taking pads and serious constipated faces on’.

    • Vava says:

+1. These two are so pathetic. As if we don’t know what exactly they are doing. LOL.
That polyester suit she’s wearing is so damned ugly.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Kate looks like she’s modeling a ladies’ business outfit in a 1987 J.C. Penney’s catalogue.

  6. bekindbekindbekind says:

Like another Head of State who loves photos of himself at an always curiously empty desk.

    Shameful.

    • Wasabi says:

What are those pastel corored books? They look like a collection of novels or poetry. So why are they placed on a “flat-out work” desk? Is this what they think an office looks like? Do they think everyone just reads spy novels and comics all day? I think they need a new set designer.

      • Harper says:

Those books are props! They look like those pretty re-issues of the classics–you know, Pride and Prejudice and Frankenstein and A Tale of Two Cities–just what we need during this pandemic. And her business-woman costume matches the gentle pastel color scheme of wherever this rarely used room in Kensington Palace is. I love how Bill’s fake desk is completely empty because, of course, he doesn’t read any of his briefings!

      • Belli says:

They’re classic novels. Exactly what everyone has in an office, right? 😉

I think what they might have been going for was a softer and more “mumsy” version of the leatherbound books you sometimes see in fancy libraries and studies that posh old men have.

Perhaps that’s what that papped trip to the bookshop was for!

      • Nic919 says:

Seeing as Kate has never worked a real job in her life outside a few months at jigsaw, it’s obvious she has no idea what a real work desk looks like. Sitting at an end table with decorative books taking up workspace shows how little she has had to sit there.

      • Aria says:

How kate patronage will understand without english subtitles?? She cant put two sentences together eventhough her mother tongue is english and she only spoke english all her life. It boggles my mind how the native speaking adult cant form two sentences together??

      • ArtHistorian says:

No working person has novels taking up space on their work desk! Other people have commented that this pic looks like it is staged in the drawing room in KP where they entertained the Obamas. Want’t bet that they don’t have any personal work spaces in either of their residences?

      • Nic919 says:

It is obvious that neither knows what a personal workspace looks like. Computers are a minimum requirement since the 80s.

      • GirlMonday says:

        @nic919
Cmon now, you know they don’t even do their own computing

  7. Hoya_chick says:

How does he access that drawers with the printer on it if the cords are plugged in in front if it? She wondered aloud…..

    • Noodle says:

I love that the entire foreground of the picture is dominated by that big-a$$ printer. Royals, they’re just like us…

    • Amy Too says:

Why does he need a printer if he doesn’t have a computer on his desk?

I also really like Katie Keen’s “inbox” that is full of….blank stationary paper. Her desk especially does not look like a desk anyone ever sits at to work. She’s decorated it with the pretty pastel collectors editions of Jane Austen novels.

    • Helen says:

That’s an Ikea drawer set, which might be my favorite part of all of this.

      • stephka says:

There’s no way they usually have that ugly table and that printer in that room.

      • Nic919 says:

That printer got wheeled in from an actual staff member’s desk, hence the drawers in the wrong direction and mismatched style.

Besides he would die of heat with a fireplace right behind his back like that.

      • AnnaKist says:

Yep. The whole thing’s a massive crock of shite.

    • Thirtynine says:

Absolutely Nic919. Wheeled in from somewhere else. Thats why its been randomly dumped by the door.

  8. Aurora says:

The Sussexes have stepped down as Senior Royals. Are these reporters really still expecting them to show up and work as private citizens?

    • Bella DuPont says:

Right? It almost feels as though the BM don’t understand what stepping back means in practical terms. This is what it looks like, guys – hardly ever seeing them in the UK. And you caused that. So stop whinging and enjoy it. 🙄👍

  9. Aurora says:

The Sussexes have stepped down as Senior Royals. Are these reporters really still expecting them to show up and work as private citizens?

  10. girl_ninja says:

Those two are so…sad. Harry and Meghan were the perfect foils to their pathetic, lazy existence. Once they saw they the Sussex’s (Meghan) would be attacked relentlessly by the British media they contributed to the abuse. Finally they were free to do the bare minimum and it would not be called out. Well kids we shall see how that goes for you.

  11. Belli says:

    “Alexa, play Sure Jan (Remix).”

  12. OriginalLala says:

“working flat-out” LOL – poor sausages, pretending to take a phone call for a photo op is such hard work!

    • Royalwatcher says:

Right?! One phone call, 10 days ago and a 10-second vid of the kids in the garden. Phew, the poor pigeons must be knackered!!! Those poor dears. I’ll bet they’re dying for a Mustique vacay right about now.

    • Amy Too says:

I don’t get how they’re currently “working flat out” RIGHT NOW but also will start doing things “when the time is right,” after the quarantine is lifted. Which is it? They’re currently working super hard or they’re planning to work super hard later “when the time is right”? What is with the royal family and the phrase “when the time is right”? The queen is also waiting for the right time to address the nation.

And how come if they’ve been working flat out for weeks now, they had to use photos from two weeks ago? And that super mega hard working they’re doing is…. telephoning 1 patronage each? Did they make plans to help those patronages in any way or did they just telephone them? If their new, “working flat out” schedule consists of calling one patronage each every 2 weeks, then does that mean they usually never talk to their patronages? They usually do even LESS work than that? So calling them once, two weeks ago, from the comfort of their home office, is considered extra hard work for the Cambridges? How does that make them look good? They’re literally quarantining at home and haven’t been seen in 10 days or so and won’t be seen until the stay in place order is up…. but they’re somehow working harder than they’ve ever worked? By being home making phone calls? That’s not a good spin.

    • GreenTurtle says:

Yes, calling up and bothering people who are actually trying to work is such sacrifice. They’re just like battlefield nurses in WWII. 🙄

      • Babz says:

I’m not convinced they aren’t talking to each other on those phones. Oh, who am I kidding. They’re faking it.

  13. Sarah says:

Why is Bill’s “office” staged like the set of The Office? It looks like my retired Dad’s office when he’s on the phone with his pickle ball crew. What a bizarre choice for a photo. So regal! Much OfficeMax!

    • StartupSpouse says:

HAHAHAHAHA. Pickle ball crew. My retired mom has the same. I love it.

    • Viv says:

Funny you say that because Kate’s line of books reminded of the bookshelf behind Leslie Knope’s desk in Parks and Rec. Did someone just Google pictures of TV show offices to stage the photo shoot?

  14. RoyalBlue says:

Trying to stay relevant when they are really useless.

    • Tessa says:

Kate can have another photo op with Charlotte on “take your daughter to work day” they can wear matching outfits.

  15. Royalwatcher says:

It’s a no for me, dawg. They couldn’t even support Harry and Meghan’s mental health, especially when Meghan was pregnant, so I’ll pass on anything these two have to say on the topic. They instructed their staff to actually make fun of H&M’s plea for peace and Kate straight up ignored the Sussexes when they were last together. Will and Kate don’t have a single empathetic impulse for anyone besides themselves, their children and the Midds. They are selfish, smallminded and lazy.

    • Lee says:

They are, aren’t they? Little Wiley and Krazy Kate are just waiting for his pop to keel over so he can swoop in with his little willy and take the throne, for the best of the Brits.
I honestly have no idea how the Brits are able to stomach these two twits!

  16. Rebecca says:

I love these fake pictures. Not.

Kate the Keen is right-handed, correct? Yet she’s posed with her blank piece of paper with a pen in her left hand, while carefully turned towards the photographer. What a freakin’ joke.

    • Amy Too says:

And Holy Photoshop, right? She looks like she’s about 19 years old. We know she doesn’t look like that anymore but apparently an extremely smooth faced, gently smiling Kate in a pastel suit, sitting at a “desk” covered in Jane Austen novels is what the U.K. really needs right now! She’s working “flat out!” As seen by her serene expression and flawless skin. But also they’re waiting until “the time is right” to start working again.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Don’t forget the soft glow of serenity that surrounds her – overdid the photoshopping just like everything else in these shots.

      • Rebecca says:

LOL… all I know for sure is in my 25+ years of my white-collar working life, I do not have a photo of me working at my desk that looks remotely like this. This picture might as well have “PhotoStock” watermarked across it for as staged as it looks.

      • BeanieBean says:

Rebecca: here’s what’s on my desk: laptop computer; to the left, my phone, stapler & tape dispenser, a couple-three sticky notes, my water bottles, pages with my most immediate work to dos; to my right, stack of recycled paper for notes, coffee cup with extra pens & pencils & etc., Kleenex box, tray with paper clips, my chapstick, sunblock, nail file, pencil sharpeners; desk drawers on my side of the desk; behind me: my second desk for extra workspace, with at the left, a file holder thingie for folders, to the right, another one with my dictionary & style guide, my radio (I work in federal land management), and three containers of paper clips. On the wall behind that desk is my bulletin board. To the right of that desk is an end table with another file holder thingie for folders + my charger for the radio. To the left of that desk is another end table with my printer.
I don’t think either William or Kate ‘work’ here.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate would have major back pain if she had to sit in that chair for more than 15 minutes. That’s not an office chair. But she’s too stupid to know that because she’s never had to work at anything in her life besides keeping William’s interest.

      • ArtHistorian says:

These staged photos reveals one thing – that neither Kate nor William have their own personal offices where they do their “work”, probably because they do nothing.

  17. Monica says:

Wonder how long it took a housekeeper to dust off the desks before they were finally used?

  18. Emily says:

That “office” looks like it has been set up specifically for this photo op. It doesn’t look like a space where any actual work happens.

Also if anybody has actually read any of those suspiciously coordinated books, I will eat my hat!

    • Belli says:

Those books are the Penguin Classics clothbound range. Interesting choice for an office.

I’ve gifted a few and recognise A Christmas Carol, Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, Tess of the D’urbervilles, Middlemarch, The Picture of Dorian Grey and Bleak House.

(Is this when we’re supposed to cry “merching!”? 😉)

      • February Pisces says:

Yes, the new range is available in Waterstones. I was going to buy a few because I quite liked the new covers. Maybe Kate picked them up when she did her photo shoot outside Waterstones a few weeks ago? That is if she actually went in, and didn’t just walk through the door to be pictured walking straight back out again.

    • Nanea says:

That “office” looks like the drawing room in their KP apartment where they received the Obamas.

There’s a photo in that series where the table, where Kate is sitting in this pic, is right behind a sofa.

So it is most certainly not an office.

And I have no idea why they haven’t heard of cordless headsets yet. Those that one can use hands-free to write down something with one’s dominant hand while talking…

  19. Toot says:

Kate is right handed, why is she holding the pen with her left. Will looks like he sat quickly at someone else’s desk just for his pic.

Since you’re faking photos, just get the basics, but the Cambridges are thick as hell.

  20. S808 says:

They have no sense of direction. They hang on to any already established initiative that doesn’t require much work for them. Their foundation doesn’t seem to have a direction either. They always come up the rear but want to be regarded as leaders. It doesn’t work like that.

  21. monstercat99 says:

the funny thing about this whole set up was that Kensington actually pushed it too far this time. Regular DM commenters alike found this whole shoot and article super insanely tone deaf like “thank gosh I can sleep @ nite knowing her 3 blessed angels r running around the hallowed grounds of anmer as I sit in my housing commission flat …. also her desk is very clean and has books on it is she sure how to use it?!”

If your regular rabid supporters think you’re a bunch privileged idiots (no easy feat these days for W&K) then the KP comms team officially has socks for brains.

I guess they forgot to hire the praise bots to fill the comments section. Maybe they blew the budget hiring hate bots for the H&M articles.

  22. Noodle says:

I love her “desk” which is entirely useless. A row of books which have never been touched. Who reads “The Hound of the Baskervilles” while they are working? There’s no office supplies, no laptop or computer. I can picture the conversation:
Kate: Prepare a workspace forthwith, Jeeves!
Jeeves: Your highness, what should go on the workspace? Right now it’s just pictures of Meghan with drawn in mustaches and eyes scratched out. Do you want me to move those?
Kate: Certainly. How about some books? I am rather fond of the look of books. That looks “office-y”, right, Jeeves? Ensure they are all white, British authors. I want them lined in a clean row so if I happen to knock one, they all fall over.
Jeeves: What about a laptop or a cylinder of pens, your highness?
Kate: That would clutter the space, and not give me sufficient room to do my head tilt of interest and compassion. Just a row of books will do, Jeeves.
Jeeves: What do you want me to do with the books after the photographers leave, ma’am?
Kate: Burn them, Jeeves. I will purchase a new set in my arranged photo opportunity at the bookstore when they re-open. I will be a symbol of economic hope to my people, Jeeves.
    Jeeves: yes, ma’am.

    • Wasabi says:

That is exactly what this office looks like: A stage for a British comedy TV show from the 80s.

  23. Agnes says:

I think the world might like them better if they were just honest about how little they care about the little people and how much they enjoy doing fuck all for anybody.

    • Babz says:

I would have a little more respect for them if they did that. Authenticity goes a long way…but they wouldn’t know authentic if it bit their royal bums.

  24. Yoyo says:

These are same books that was featured in the photo when Obama visited, Kate just added a phone to the desk.
Maybe this was the first call of the day for Kate, and she wanted to start with a blank page, since no ideas pop in her head on what to talk about.
I thought I heard every about Meghan, now a Kate Stan is blaming Meghan for Kate looking like a woman in her late forties.

  25. YT says:

Will and Kate need to be more careful about how they step on other royal toes or they will be subjected to constant negative leaks about themselves for years to come.

  26. MellyMel says:

One of the most staged things I’ve ever seen! They are clueless and think ppl are actually buying this. Amazing!

  27. Flying fish says:

    These photos made me cringe.
    Two useless fools.

  28. Suzy says:

Ya know, this is also a pretty critical time for parents of young children, especially. I wonder (hope) Kate‘s team is curating some early years content to support her key target demographic. A month out from its closing, I wonder what the 5 question survey says?

  29. TIFFANY says:

If you told me that was Edward on the phone in that profile pic, I would believe you.

  30. KellyRyan says:

Must have the same prop master and dresser as Queenie. 🙂

  31. Aurora says:

I wonder if Kate ordered the business woman’s lunch special.

  32. CindyP says:

While some right handed people may be able to do certain things with their left hand, writing isn’t one of them
People considered ambidextrous to varying degrees are usually left handed

    • MsIam says:

I would say the majority of right handed people hold the phone in their left hand so they can write. Especially since it looks like the phone is on the left side of the desk. The only thing I can think of is they wanted to get a clear shot of her face but this pose just contributes to making the whole thing look fake.

      • CindyP says:

Exactly; if I’m on the phone & need to take notes, I put the phone on speaker & write with my right hand

  33. Chaine says:

These look like stock photos of “businessperson on phone working”

  34. paddingtonjr says:

So apparently neither have been in a real working office before, not even when visiting their patronages! I’ve seen more realistic offices at my colleagues’ vacation homes while doing video conferences. Speaking of which, why are W&K talking to their patronages on a landline telephone while most people are checking in with work by video conference? Also, does each call count as “an engagement” for their end of year numbers? Does filming the kids clapping count? Inquiring minds must know!!

    • Harla says:

It will be interesting to see how much of their ‘flat out working’ doing this crisis will show up on the court circular, personally I don’t think any of it should.

    • starryfish29 says:

They’ve been counting calls as engagements for a while now to pad their numbers, it’s really pathetic.

  35. Harla says:

Bawahahahahahaha!!!! Thanks Kaiser, I haven’t laughed this hard in such a long time!!!

  36. Marjorie says:

I love this. Even on the DM over the weekend commenters were pointing out that this isn’t Amner Hall, it’s KP, they’re wearing the same clothes as they had on at the call center, and come on, the phones. Such clueless asses.

I wonder what they actually do every day anyway? Even before COVID? Like they don’t even need to do regular rich people stuff, track investments or check real estate or whatever.

    • BayTampaBay says:

“Plenty of time for William to work on his binge-watching?”

What about working in his garden tending his “Rose Who?”?

    • yinyang says:

Me too, I’m loving every minute of this. Lazy Kate refuses to work two days, so she did everything on the same day of NHS visit.

  37. Awkward symphony says:

They released the Sussexs wearbouts because they were being roated on Twitter. I mean even celebrities were commenting sarcastically about her awkward pose😂

The keenbridges are now on par with Charles. They are a laughing stock and people dont take them seriously anymore. I mean the mental health posts were being labelled hypocritical after how he treated his own brother at CHURCH!!

    • yinyang says:

I love this! They’ve dug their own graves with those photos, I noticed that too, the Daily “National Inquirer” Mail brought out a bunch of Sussex articles after to distract the negative attention away from the Cantbridges but the public didn’t turn away. Finally.

  38. Xantha says:

What modern office has no tech? Where are the laptops/computers? Someone on Twitter showed the other European royals looking at laptops/computers/tablets so this is not a royal thing.

  39. Marie says:

I got such second hand embarrassment from looking at these photos. They are trying SO HARD

  40. Maxie says:

The Cambridges were destroyed in the DM’s comments section.

The royal family will have to accept a massive “pay cut” if they want to survive. People are starting to smarten up and won’t accept to bankroll the lifestyle of a useless bunch of parasites while they’re under draconian austerity measures. A few pictures of the kids won’t be enough to appease the public.

They love to brag about how much tourists they’re attracting to the UK. Where are the tourists now?

    • Aria says:

I dont read daily mail what happen??

      • Maxie says:

People are stuck inside tiny flats with no gardens while the Royals are enjoying grand private residences on gigantic estates. That didn’t go well with the public.

The staged photos were also obvious for all to see.

    • yinyang says:

@Maxie Loved every comment there, people are smartening up, they’ll be lucky if they survive this, this was so insensitive.

    • February Pisces says:

Wow that’s a surprise, I wonder what happened to the KP comment bots, praising them for existing? Maybe there’re self isolating somewhere in a cave together lol. In all seriousness, I think given what’s going on at the minute, shit just got real for people. people are either dying or getting sick. Those who are not are worried about getting sick or losing a loved one. Not to mention financially people are struggling with the loss in earnings etc. No one has anytime to prop up the Cambridge’s because even those who ‘like’ them know they are absolutely useless and can’t do shit to help them during this.

      • Lara says:

Personally, I think the change in tone could also be attributed to the fact that people who are usually busy at work are now stuck with nowhere to go and nothing to do. Which means lots of surfing the internet and leaving comments. I mean I was sometimes able to take a break from my unending workload to quickly browse a few headlines and maybe skim comments, but couldn’t spare the time or effort to leave a comment myself. Now that I work from home, I find myself with a bit of time to read and add a comment or two.

  41. MangoAngel says:

Is it just me, or is she not wearing Big Blue in her extremely soft-focused serene secretary photo? Or does she just have it turned around to look less blingy during these hard times?

    • Harla says:

I noticed the same thing. She fiddles with it quite a bit so it might just be turned around due to that.

    • Amy Too says:

Ooooooo. I wonder if she only wears it when she’s out being photographed and doesn’t wear any kind of wedding ring at home because they’re technically separated and their marriage is a sham show.

ETA: it looks likes she’s at least got a wedding band on. So I don’t know about my theory now.

  42. Fleurthefrenchie says:

Where are their laptops? The photos look ridiculously staged… but no one even bothered making their desks look like they actually do real work… they do not have a clue what a real, modern office desk look like!

    • ArtHistorian says:

It is rather amazing just how bad they and their team are at this. If they are staging photos of them at “work”, at least make it look like they are in an actual, lived in working space. The Kate pic is especially bad, they put novels on her desk! Why? because they look pretty and fit the aesthetic of the room? Or because they wanted to signal traditional “Englishness” with major works from the English literary canon?

      • ArtHistorian says:

Having studied the photos more closely, I do note some important differences. They have clearly tried with William’s pic. They’ve dragged in a big printer in the foreground to signal “working space” and they’ve taken a shot that looks “candid”. It is clear that this pic is to communicate that William is just sooo busy. However, the cabinet that the printer is placed on (+ the messy cables) clashes with the rest of the very carefully balanced decor, which makes me think that this printer is not a regular feature in this space but has quickly been dragged in to make it seem like William actually has a personal work office (which I frankly think that he doesn’t).

Kate’s pic, on the other hand, is just plain ridiculous! So painstakingly posed and there’s only been a perfunctory effort to even try to make this look just a little bit like an office space. Just a phone and an inbox with blank papers (!). The novels on the desk is just a baffling addition – no working space in actual daily use has novels cluttering up the desk. I wonder whether this pic is simply Kate wanting everything and herself to look nice – or her team is just plain trolling her, deliberately making her look like a light-weight next to her “serious” husband. I wonder…

These pics send different messages: William’s pic is trying to send “serious, working vibes” while Kate’s says “stock-photo of business woman at work”. Kate’s pic is so obviously and painfully studied that it reeks of fakery. With William’s photo they’ve actually tried to create an air of “unstudied authenticity” trhough the staging of the space, his pose and framing of the shot itself. So my question is this: Is Kate simply that vain and that clueless? Or is she being set up to be the frivolous foil to William’s “serious working statesman”? Inquiring minds want to know.

      • Lady D says:

I was wondering if she was copying the queen’s desk look, but after some research it appears Liz knows how to use a desk. Interestingly, even when her desk just held a daily calendar and a pen set, it still looked like a working desk

      • ennie says:

ha! the cables are in front of the drawers (facepalm)

      • Digital Unicorn says:

I agree with everything you’ve said.

They clearly have a stash of ‘goodwill’ photo’s that they are releasing at opportune moments but they have no clue when the opportune moment is – these photo’s have Carole and Williams ham fisted PR stunting written all over them. The tricks that they’ve used for years are not working at some point when the pubic tide turns on them so will the tabloids – they WILL drop whatever they have on the Cambridges and the Middleton’s. Whatever deal they made with the tabloids will get chucked out the window when the public turns on them all.

      • Nic919 says:

They should have asked for Carole’s help here. At least Carole would know what a work desk looks like.
I certainly think Kate is very dim, her own words confirm this, but it seems her team is also quite dumb too because this set up is fake as hell.

  43. Thea says:

I’m pretty sure she’s holding the phone with her right and the pen with her left so that she doesn’t block her face in the shot.

  44. Catherine says:

This is a tennis comment, and a light hearted one: you know how Nadal is right handed in real life, but plays left handed? That has always boggled my mind 🤯🤯🤯 Anyway, PW is left handed and KM has remarked several times that it’s really frustrating to play tennis against a him, a lefty. She’s super competitive and I wonder if she’s not trying to get more dexterity on her left side. I would. Playing tennis against a lefty (I’m right handed) is tricky, and makes me irrationally mad 🤣🙃

Thats all I’ve got, you guys stay safe. My baby due in 14 days 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

  45. MeghanNotMarkle says:

These photos are so cringe-worthy. Anyone with a brain knows these two couldn’t work that printer if they rubbed their brain cells together. It’s laughable.

  46. yinyang says:

Omg!! This is was the first time I went on Dailymail and I agreed with every comment. This might be THE picture that sets the republic gears turning. Loved that these airbrushed instragram/homes&gardens magazine barbie and ken wannabe models are finally getting their comeuppance! Every comment was about how they’re rubbing in our faces all their space for kids to run around while families are cramped into tiny flats with no balconies, how posed and fake these pictures are, how frontline workers and their spouses worrying about bringing the virus home to their families everyday while these two pretend work…there was one or two pathetic Kate stans pointing the finger at Meghan trying to drag her into it, but their attempts were drowned out by the truth. Love it! Lol!

  47. Aimee says:

The ONLY job they have is to go out and shake hands and smile. That’s it. What else could they possibly be doing now?

  48. Jaded says:

These pictures remind of the clothing catalogues we used to get when I was a kid with perfectly staged models doing “every day things”. They are cringeworthy and the only flat-out work they’re doing is when they’re in bed or stretched flat out on the couch watching Coronation Street with a bag of crisps and a beer.

  49. Jules says:

These photos made my day, hilarious! Looks like they are talking to each other from across the room. And with a subtle 80’s nod. Classic.

    • L84Tea says:

“Will darling, do I look like a serious business woman? Does my hair look alright?”

“Shh…you’ll blow my cover Kate. I’m trying to appear concerned and stately while I speak to…to….the king of…France. They have a king, don’t they?”

      • Jay says:

I also imagined them talking to each other!
“Darling, those ungrateful shrews over at celebitchy say we should be working more.”
“Well, we’ll show them! Quick, plug in this mimeograph machine so I can send a telegram to all our followers.”

My guess is (like a lot of celebs) they are suddenly without their full staff, so now we get to see just how bad their game really is.

If this website ever wants to do an open thread where we try to caption the hapless “working” photos the royals are dropping right now, I’m in! MAKE THEM DO A CONFERENCE CALL WITH THE QUEEN AND BORIS!

  50. Rachael Prest says:

Kate’s desk is the least functional workspace I have ever seen.

  51. AGreatDane says:

They are trying way too hard now.

  52. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Presumably the Wail will now turn their guns on the gruesome twosome, given the unbelievable levels of incredulity, snark and loathing in the comments on that ‘article’?
I hope you’re all well – love to you all.

    • ennie says:

Oh, they can’t be nice fr too long, and the heirs of the heir are not actually that keen on really working and coming up with ideas. they have been enjoying a looooooooong vacation because they are seeing that granny is working until nineties, so they’ve been enjoying their retirement backwards.

    • Royalwatcher says:

How are YOU doing? Hope you’re on the path to recovery!!

  53. ravynrobyn says:

    FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!

  54. Andrea says:

    The tide has turned…

  55. Cosmo says:

Are they the most fake pictures of people working that you have ever seen. They have never worked before so that’s why it was hard to make it look real. They really have the bm up their butt don’t they. Meanwhile the media from all around is attacking the two hard workers constantly. Something doesn’t make sense.

  56. RoyalPurple says:

I want to know how many of those classics she’s actually read.

    • aria says:

none. she can’t put two sentences together and I’m from Asia and kate’s degree 2:1 is very low when you compare with our standard and this low level is considered as dumb and cant find good job with this level. So no ,she can’t read or speak proper English.

  57. Jay says:

Well, I’m at least happy they are taking some of our suggestions, like not endangering and getting in the way of healthcare professionals and using this opportunity to speak about mental health.
This photo op is… embarrassing. It’s like a parody, something David Brent (Michael Scott for US Office watchers) would do to show themselves “working flat out”. All I see is taking credit (by posting without clarifying) for the new work their charities have done, not what they have done.

I also like the choice of verbs here:
They “have vowed to “do whatever they can – when the time is right”

So, they promise to promise that in the future they will do something, if they can, at an unspecified time. Brilliant.

  58. clairej says:

To be fair. Charles is ill and Camilla will be isolating with him, The Queen is a risk and Harry has done a runner so it is up to William and Kate to hold the fort.

  59. Ina says:

Who is she talking to on the phone – Carole? Pippa?

  60. nicegirl says:

I doubt Wandering Willy is doing anything flat out other than trimming rose bushes. He’s a gardener at heart.

  61. anon says:

Did anyone else notice a *single* sheet of paper on Will’s desk?

Yeah. My desk looks like someone actually works at it.

So staged and phony. Both of them.

  62. Rapunzel says:

Lol… it’s interesting that the Kate pic looks obviously posed while the Willy pic looks like he’s caught by surprise. I wonder if that’s intentional? So it can look like Kate doesn’t actually work but Willy does? I’m convinced that Workshy Billy Boy is gonna trade Kate in at some point for a more dynamic model that will make him look better. Could he be laying little groundwork bits to make Kate look like the villain?

    • ArtHistorian says:

Either Kate insisted on a image where the focus is on her looks or she’s being set up to look frivolous and inauthentic next to Will’s pic.

    • Jules says:

Lol, now I can’t unsee it. It looks like he is making a secret call to a mysterious mistress while no one is looking.

  63. Charfromdarock says:

    The queen deserves them.

  64. MA says:

This looks like a stock photo of White Woman Working.

  65. MA says:

British taxpayers pay millions to feed, house, clothe, these emotionally stunted overgrown children so they can play at working? And so that the other 90% of their time they’re free to frolick, play tennis, vacation? This is bizarro world.

  66. starryfish29 says:

They are so inept at PR that it’s actually kind of amazing. Claiming to have been working hard at home while wearing a highly identifiable outfit at a desk stocked with fake books in a room which likely isn’t actually an office because it’s the same one where they hosted the Obamas, all while having told us days ago that they are quarantining in Norfolk. Using a crisis to try and make yourself look good is really gross, and makes me think you’re a genuinely garbage person, this offends me so much more than their usual nonsense.

  67. Lizzie says:

Kate’s pic looks like an ad in 1970 magazine about women working full time. The hair and suit are so dated. It would have been so much better is she was wearing jeans and a casual top. She is too dressed up for a normal office let alone working from home.

  68. Emily says:

So are they working flat out or working when the lockdown is lifted?

  69. Lisabella says:

Working Royals?!? I do NOT see Princess Anne anywhere in any of the pictures…

  70. TheOriginalMia says:

I can’t believe no one caught the file cabinet and cords. It looks so ridiculously staged.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Yeah. The drawers face outward, which is very inconvenient if that an actual work space. They hardly tried. So my question is this: is their team incompetent or are they trolling their clueless bosses?

    • February Pisces says:

It’s weird the back of the printer is not facing the front of the drawers. How are you suppose to open them with the cords hanging over them. Clearly not much work is happening there. I’m surprised there are no strategically placed photos of the kids.

      • ArtHistorian says:

That is why even Will’s pic is so hilarious. It isn’t as obviously fake as Kate’s but if you take a closer look (the printer and cabinet) you can see that it is just as fake and a half-assed effort to boot. At least Kate tried to colour co-ordinate for an aesthetic effect, too bad that she didn’t know how to even try to make a desk look like part of an actual work environment. Will’s team tried but they did it badly and hurriedly that they didn’t bother to get the little details right – or they are subtly trolling him.

  71. NightOwl says:

The left arm of the chair looks really … odd?
