Lady Gaga’s a-hole dad supports Trump even after Trump trashed his daughter

Lady Gaga has been quite vocal about who she is supporting in this year’s election. In fact she has been quite an activist for the Democratic Party over the years and protested outside Trump Towers in 2016. This year Gaga got seriously involved and performed and spoke at Biden’s final rally in Pittsburg. She even called Trump “a man who believes his fame gives him the right to grab one of your daughters or sisters or mothers or wives.

Of course this incited the ire of the tiny hand man in the White House. He took to Twitter as usual to disparage another opinionated woman, even suggesting that there are “stories” about Gaga which he didn’t elaborate on. Lady Gaga’s father, Joe Germanotta, decided to tweet out his support for Trump after that for some reason. He lamely defended himself then deleted both tweets, but of course outlets picked up on it. Below is more on the story from People:

On Tuesday, Germanotta sent out a simple tweet: “@realDonaldTrump 2020”

“You may have noticed my political and spiritual beliefs are different. liberty and freedom of choice would not be political,” he added in another tweet an hour later. Both have since been deleted.

On Monday, Trump criticized Gaga, 34, as she campaigned for his opponent Joe Biden.

“Now he’s got Lady Gaga,” Trump, 74, said at his rally in the city of Avoca, Pennsylvania, of Biden, 77. “Lady Gaga — is not too good. I could tell you plenty of stories. I could tell you stories about Lady Gaga. I know a lot of stories about Lady Gaga.”

Gaga joined Biden in Pittsburgh the same day to greet college students and sing at the former vice president’s campaign event.

“To all the women, and to all the men with daughters and sisters and mothers — everybody, no matter how you identify, now is your chance to vote against Donald Trump, a man who believes his fame gives him the right to grab one of your daughters, or sisters or mothers or wives by any part of their body,” Gaga said in remarks at the Biden event.

[From People]

That was a d*ck move and Lady Gaga’s father is an as*hole. I get not having the same politics as your daughter but this is a candidate who hates everything about your child. Like what is WRONG with the fathers these days? I have been watching these amazing female celebrities having to tolerate their dads being absolute d*cks.

Her father should have just kept quiet, sat at the table and ate his food. Publicly supporting Donald Trump after he has gone after your own daughter is deplorable to me. Gaga may have to have a sit down with her dad. Republicans with a child or spouse that is part of a community the Republican party hates on should rethink their allegiance to that party.

As disturbing as this story is, I think Gaga will continue to press on and I support her fully. Unfortunately her sh*t father can take a long hike out west.

My brothers would 100% do this to me. My dad, never.

    • kimberlu says:

my dad would cut Donald trump…then in retrospect say it was to defend my honor…in reality he really hates Donald trump🤣🤣

    • Mary E Freeland says:

My dad would never vote for a man that talked like Trump and neither would my husband. Trump’s policies also stink.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

My dad makes Thomas Markle and Lady Gaga’s dad look like saints.

  2. Bananarama says:

Don’t send him out west, we don’t need his way of thinking out here.

    Also my father would *never*

    • Julie says:

So glad my dad detests Trump. But he totally would publicly side with someone who openly hates me. Men seem to operate in a weird world where shutting your mouth to protect other people’s feelings is a disgusting failing. Never mind that they are the biggest beneficiaries of people holding their tongues

  3. Sean says:

I can relate. I was born with a very mild case of Cerebral Palsy. My jaw hit the floor in 2016 when Trump mocked that disabled journalist. My parents still voted for him, supported him and voted again for him this year.

In 2016, I asked my mom how she would feel if Trump made fun of my CP. She simply shrugged and said “Well, it wouldn’t be right.”. Then went about her business.

My parents feel we have to overlook the character of a candidate so long as their policies are favorable.

    • Downarabbithole says:

@Sean I am so, so sorry. That has to hurt. It’s not OK.

      • Sean says:

Thanks. It is hard. I love my parents but this past four years have been filled mostly disappointment and embarrassment when it comes to them.

    • Allie says:

This is just sick. Trumps policies are just as inhumane as he is himself. I feel for you!

    • whatWHAT? says:

sean, that’s awful. I am so sorry you had to deal with that.

I have a “friend” (no longer) with a non-verbal autistic son, and she supports him, too. I asked her about that when it happened and she basically shrugged and was like “but he’ll stop the killing of innocent babies”.

she’s also an anti-vaxxer and thinks that Planned Parenthood “sells” baby parts.

    • Teresa says:

I’m sorry you dealt with this and I can relate. Listening to my dad defend Brett Kavanagh despite myself and my sister being raped when we were younger made me physically ill. He thank God voted for Biden. My mom was even appalled at him. I think she ripped him a new one when I wasn’t around

    • Betsy says:

Good god, but that’s ugly of them. I’m sorry.

    • Fiona says:

@SEAN I sympathize with you. My fiancé’s family has a lot of trump supporters, including his cousin who has CP. the fact that this isn’t a deal breaker for either of our families is heart breaking and I am so sorry. I don’t have children but I don’t understand how this isn’t more upsetting when someone directly insults your children. No way I’d be able to shrug that off.

  4. sa says:

My father would never support Trump, but I think he would do this to me (and then tell me how it was my fault). But that’s why I haven’t spoken to him in 15 years. Hopefully she knows better than to depend on him for.suport, because worse than having a father like this, is having a father like this when you expect better.

  5. Lauren says:

I have the very same issue with my father. He is a white italian man while I look like my afrolatina mother. Italian politics have taken a way racist turn in the past 20 or so years and my father continues to support the italian right, without acknowledging their racism saying that they are not racist against me because I was raised right. Like what does that even mean? I hate this world.

  6. Chartreuse says:

Wow! And I wonder who pays her dad’s bills?

    • holly hobby says:

She pays his bills. I think I read she financially supported her folks. Such a shame and so disloyal!

      • Dee Kay says:

Wow I didn’t even think of this. That her father not only sided with an evil, vicious man who attacked his daughter, but also that he did so when said daughter is supporting him and his wife (her mom)!!!! UGH. Terrible.

Didn’t Christine Blasey Ford’s father send Brett Kavanaugh a note of support and/or apology after she testified at his confirmation hearings? Or did I read some misinformation somewhere?

  7. Lucky says:

Not surprised. I live in a red part of one of the 5 Boroughs and most of the Italian-American men I know are Trumpers.

  8. Mireille says:

Speaking of Lady Gaga and her father … both New Yorkers, I’m a New Yorker who fucking hates New York right now. Only 55% of NYers voted for Biden. 43% went to orange whiny baby and the rest went to other candidates. NJ CA MD MA were well over 60% for Biden. Hell, DC came out nearly 90% for Biden. BUT NEW YORK!!!! I get that Biden still won the majority but there is no excuse to vote for Orange Turd when he has done everything in his power to hurt NY. A lot of Trump supporters on Staten Island, Upstate, and Long Island. Three areas where I’ve experienced racism. So right now I’m done with my state.

    • whatWHAT? says:

Western NY is EXTREMELY racist in a lot of areas.

    • JanetDR says:

To be fair, it’s the same rural vs city divide that you see all over the county, but yeah, my county and those surrounding it are always red.

    • Hotsauceinmybag says:

I have been driving up from the city to Westchester and further parts like Hudson Valley, Putnam Valley/County and Ulster County. Trump 2020 signs galore in those parts so the divide is not that surprising to me.

    • Maxime duCamp says:

OK, take this with a huge grain of salt because it is anecdotal data from hate binging RHONY on HULU during the pandemic (not my proudest moment) but the majority of them are Trumpers so I assume a lot of their fellow UES white friends are as well. It seems that a lot of wealthy middle-aged and older white people (perhaps the younger ones as well) would vote for Satan if they thought it would protect their wealth. I wouldn’t blame the high voter turnout for Trump just on rural NYers.

    • AMA1977 says:

I talked about this on another thread a few weeks ago(I think?? It’s hard to know these days, a day seems like a month…) I have a cousin who is officially cut off who is on Long Island and is the dumbest sack of meat you’d ever come across. MAGAt all the way, never had an original thought in his head, has never lived anywhere further than 5 miles from where he was born, couldn’t hack it at college, doesn’t know the difference between an opinion piece and a factual article, got pissy with me when I dropped facts on him at the beginning of the pandemic when the MAGA talking points were all about swine flu, and is a general oxygen thief and waste of skin. He’s who I think of when I think of that part of the state. I’m sorry you have to share New York with him in particular and his ilk in general. I am surrounded by his Texan counterparts in a suburb of Harris County, so I feel your pain.

    • Amelie says:

Not surprised. I saw the official presidential elections results breakdown of New York State at the New York Times website. I’m originally from Westchester County which was the ONLY NY county directly adjacent to NYC to go blue. Long Island was red as well as Staten Island. I don’t know much about Staten Island, it’s kind of the forgotten borough of NYC so that made me laugh. I have never had a high opinion of Long Island in general so it confirmed my bias.

I’ve done some traveling in the last few months upstate to the Catskills, the Adirondacks, and the 1000 Islands. A lot of Trump signs in the 1000 islands and the Adirondacks. The Catskills it was a bit more divided and I would say 50-50. According to the NYT map, the counties around Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester were all blue which isn’t surprising given there are all major universities there as well. So the rural counties in NY were overwhelmingly red. However, those counties are also not highly populated either, especially when you see the number of votes compared to the counties that voted blue/the counties near NYC. NY has more Republicans than people realize but they’re all mostly upstate or on Long Island.

  9. Isa says:

My parents would 100% do that to me. I was raped and my mother told me re: Kavanaugh “women lie.”

    • Isa says:

It’s a cult and love for their idol trumps even family.

    • HoofRat says:

I’m so sorry! As if the trauma of rape wasn’t enough. How do these people not see the connection between Trump’s ugliness (and Kavanagh’s, and McConnell’s, and and and…) and the volnerabilities of their own family members? How do you compartmentalize like that?

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

Please tell me you have cut this person, (I don’t care that she’s your mother) out of your life? Please tell me this is not something you have chosen to tolerate from someone who is supposed to love you? I realize it’s your life and only you get to make a decision like that, but I can’t even imagine that I could even look at a parent again if they responded that way to my pain.

I guess there’s something wrong with me, but I just can’t understand some of the things that people tolerate from people in their lives. I guess it’s why I have so few friends and family I’m close to because I just have a low threshold for wrongs and insensitivity from those in my life.

      • Poisonella says:

I am lucky my family shares my political views because I depend on their support. Not financially, but, knowing if I got sick or needed help-they would be there. Like I said I’m lucky. Some people have to put up with it- maybe they’re sick, disabled, or financially dependent. Lots of reasons they can’t walk away. The world is different now. Trump followers are a different breed who I don’t understand. I am not a religious person but if Biden wins, I will get down on my knees and thank whatever karmic force saved us if only momentarily, from disaster.

  10. Salmonpuff says:

My father is one of those men. Someone should do a study because there are a lot of them.

  11. Lemons says:

If I were Lady Gaga, I would promptly stop supporting his failing pizza restaurant and let him know that the Orange One can take care of his bills from now on. Bootstraps, thoughts & prayers, and whatnot.

  12. FYI says:

I’m not even understanding what he’s saying though?

“You may have noticed my political and spiritual beliefs are different. liberty and freedom of choice would not be political…”
Different than what? Than his daughter’s? He’s not very clear here. Is he really a Trump supporter? I read it as — he’s tweeting at Trump that his (Mr. Gaga’s) politics are different than Trump’s.
Are we sure this isn’t just an old guy who doesn’t communicate well and doesn’t know how to use Twitter? Unless there are other instances of his supporting Trump, I’d maybe give him the benefit of the doubt on this unclear tweet.

    • stormsmama says:

Hmmm I think you may be right
      very interesting

    • Amy Too says:

I’m also so confused by this. Are his spiritual and political beliefs different than his daughter? Different than Trump? Or are his political beliefs different than his spiritual beliefs and that’s why he can somehow support Trump? And the whole “liberty and freedom of choice would not be political.” “Freedom of choice” meaning? Freedom to choose who you want to vote for isnt political? Isn’t partisan? Or that whoever you choose to vote for isn’t a political choice? Or is he talking about abortion and being pro-choice? I doubt it’s that but I like how hypocritical and self-owning it is that he said that. “Freedom of choice could not be political” and yet he’s voting for the anti-choice candidate.

His tweets make no sense to me. I have no idea what he’s trying to say but the Trump 2020 part was very clear.

    • Kari says:

So again I’m reading into this because like you all said it’s not clear. I think he is trying to use the same old excuse that white folks love which is that his social views or “spiritual beliefs” are not aligned with his political beliefs (Trump’s politics) because in his mind choice and freedom should not be political. However, I like always tell white folks and wanna be white POCs, liberty and choice should most definitely not be political but they ARE politicized and to pretend otherwise is simply to stand in your privilege.

Anyway that’s how I read it, whether it’s correct well I cant be sure, I don’t know the guy (thankfully).

    • Tiffany :) says:

His first tweet: “On Tuesday, Germanotta sent out a simple tweet: “@realDonaldTrump 2020″

He declared himself a Trump supporter. I think the following tweets about beliefs being “different” was in reference to that.

      • FYI says:

The @ symbol means that he was addressing the tweet to Trump (realDonaldTrump).
It looks to me like a mis-fired tweet, not a supportive one necessarily. But I don’t know.

    • Corrie says:

      @FYI:
      My response is similar: “WHAT?!”

You cannot separate political beliefs from religious beliefs (or spiritual, call it what you will, but they are essentially synonyms, especially for the purpose of this argument).

Growing up, my parents and their friends had one rule for their dinner parties: “No discussing Religion or Politics!”

That was the only way it worked out well. They are absolutely intertwined.

  13. stormsmama says:

But also WTF does that even mean – he has “stories” ???
is he imply some shady shit or slutty stuff or what? WHAT?
Bc hes 40 years older than her and theoretically should def NOT have “stories” about her-
HIS misogyny knows no bounds. He is a predator to the core.
I am repulsed and disgusted by Gages Dad- how insecure he is that he must try to put his daughter in her place-
all these men obsessed with putting everyone down-
    F you Trump

  14. Joy says:

Everyone but my sister would 100% do this to me. They’re deep into the cult.

  15. nemo says:

yeah, her father is trash, but we already knew that.

  16. AmyB says:

So deplorable and disgusting. May give a little insight into her struggles with depression – which she has openly talked about! Bless you Lady Gaga xo

  17. Gm says:

I hope she stops supporting him. Not because he is a Trump supporter but because it is support of someone who unfairly criticized her- more of an illogical attack then criticism. However female celebs who cut off bad family get a lot of unfair scrutiny- Jennifer Aniston, Mariah Carey. Nevertheless if I were her I would do it now and just go on. The sooner the better.

  18. Lunasf17 says:

God my union lifelong Democrat dad would never support this POS! My in laws on the other hand love him and think he is great. I hate this is bringing out the worst in families but now we know their true colors.

    • Alarmjaguar says:

The more I hear about men like this, the more I’m grateful for my Dad. He was always, always on my side! I remember when that ass who was president of Harvard said women shouldn’t be in STEM and my Dad wrote him a letter to tell him he was wrong. He always had my back

  19. Corrie says:

I will never forget Trump YEARS ago calling Angelina Jolie unattractive and physically ugly on CNN. It was so long ago, in the early years she was with Pitt, around the time he adopted Z and M. She was so stunning and Trump was lashing out even then.

Also, what about these women and their partners? Isn’t Justin Bieber voting Trump? Surely Brad Pitt is. There is this weird Christian conspiracy against anyone but Trump and I am NOT getting into it. I am a Christian and it has messed with my head, but I also have logic. I don’t know anything about Gaga’s partner, but I hope it doesn’t divide households and partnerships. I can’t see how it won’t, eventually. It is so fundamental.

    • holly hobby says:

I doubt Brad Pitt voted for Rump Roast. He narrated one of Biden’s ads.

    • Cari says:

Yep, I recall this as well.

I also remember wondering why no one stood up for Angelina, not her father and not her then husband/signif other Pitt.

At the time, I put it down to Angelina being the ‘take the high road,’ type and don’t give that orange turd blossom oxygen– I recall she was like that. But frankly, that’s bs– some pos goes on natnl TV calling your woman or your daughter, ugly, a whore, making fun of her lips, her looks, etc., as Trump did, you destroy him.

Can you imagine if goldenboy Pitt and Voight combined had dragged Trump through the mud for his attacks on humanitarian Angelina, wife, mother and daughter??

There might not have ever even BEEN a ‘President Trump,’ (heave) if they had buried him in scorn and made him persona non grata.

Yet those two wusses left her to fend for herself.

Now Gaga’s dad is doing the same thing.

It all comes down to misogyny. They value even the worst kinds of men over their own partners and flesh and blood.

  20. Valerie says:

    Seriously?!

  21. JRenee says:

Thankfully my dad would never. He’s always been my biggest supporter!

  22. Marehare says:

My dad would never vote for a man that talked like Trump and neither would my husband. Trump’s policies also stink.
