Clip surfaces of Sharon Osbourne saying Meghan Markle doesn’t ‘look Black’

NBC Universal Summer Press Day
The longer Sharon Osbourne stays on her “I’m the victim not a racist” world tour, the more receipts come out on how vile and racist she actually is. Sharon has deployed textbook white fragility and gaslighting. Instead of taking time for self reflection she has doubled down on her claims that she was set up by CBS. We’ve heard that she has used racist and homophobic slurs for her co-hosts and probably got Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini fired. HuffPost contributor Yashar Ali is pulling out all of the receipts on Sharon. Yashar posted a clip from an episode ofThe Talk in 2018, in which Sharon says that Meghan Markle isn’t black (clip provided below). Below are a few excerpts from HuffPost:

Journalist Yashar Ali, who published a report on allegations surrounding Osbourne’s conduct toward her past co-hosts on Tuesday, also posted a Twitter thread on Saturday that included an old clip of Osbourne talking about the Duchess of Sussex on “The Talk.”

In the clip, which was reportedly filmed in 2018, co-host Sheryl Underwood can be heard saying Meghan brought “Blackness to the royal family,” to which Osbourne replies: “She ain’t Black.”

After Underwood and Eve quickly responded to Osbourne, correcting her that the duchess is a Black biracial woman whose mother is Black (Meghan’s father is white), Osbourne doubled down on her remark and fired back at her Black co-hosts.

“Yeah, no, I know, but she doesn’t look Black,” she said.

“To who?” Eve and Underwood questioned in unison.

“To anybody,” Osbourne can be heard responding amid chatter.

Eve then pointed out that “Black people come in all shades” before she ended the discussion. The former co-host conveyed that such a complex conversation surrounding skin complexions and Blackness deserved to be handled differently.

“That’s a whole discussion we don’t need to have,” Eve said.

A representative of CBS did not immediately return a request for comment on the resurfaced clip.

[From HuffPost]

I don’t have time for Sharon’s tears. At this point I need Sharon to prepare to not have a job after this hiatus. If I were her, if she wants to salvage her career in any way, I would go quietly into the night. Because the more Sharon doubles down, the more receipts will surface. Yashar Ali posted another damning clip of Sharon calling Leah Remini ghetto on the show, despite Sharon refuting Holly Robinson Peete’s claims by denying ever using the word “ghetto.” The other egregious thing for me is how racists like Sharon, Piers and internet trolls keep denying Meghan’s Black heritage in order to shield themselves from being accused of racism. “Meghan’s not Black,” and “Meghan doesn’t look Black,” doesn’t negate that she is. This attempt at plausible deniability does not work, since Meghan is very clear about who she is and has never denied her Black heritage. The other thing that I have enjoyed this week is Elaine Welteroth clapback against Sharon and Kevin Frazier for using her name to drum up sympathy while trying to bully her with bible verses (see below). Elaine ain’t having it and neither is Sheryl.

Sharon needs to face the fact that she was defending her dear friend Piers because she and Piers share similar values. They both are racist bullies who have been given carte blanche by their respective networks to behave in such vile ways for ratings. Due to social backlash against casual and overt racism, Sharon and Piers are no longer palatable. Fortunately, entitled people like Sharon are unable to read the room in the year of our lord Meghan Markle 2021, and Sharon thought that she would get a pass on her abhorrent behavior. Good luck to her (not really). Hopefully, Sharon has learned something from this situation. But my gut tells me that Sharon will continue to play the victim and never do enough self-reflection to shift her behavior.

What struck me as I read the above, is people keep calling her out for her past actions. RESURFACED clips and CBS has no comment. I bet CBS doesn’t have a comment. They should have been questioned on the spot when these occurred. Both CBS and Sharon. She should have been put in check when these incidents actually happened.
And yes, she and PM have similar values – the old saying birds of feather flock together can be found in almost all cultures and languages. Said differently, but the idea is the same.

    • fluffy says:

Or in this case (culture) vultures.

    • lucy2 says:

Exactly – she’s been this way forever, and multiple shows have hired her, which means there have been a lot of very hostile work environments. She never, ever should have gotten this far. She’s one of the public faces of a show belonging to a huge corporation – she needs to go, or everyone involved should sue the crap out of CBS and all the other parts of it.

  2. LoonyTunes says:

“The year of our lord, Meghan Markle” gave me uncontrollable laughs. Thank you! (PS Beyoncé is going to be pi$$ed that she’s no longer our “lord”) 😂

  3. Lily P says:

“ Sharon needs to face the fact that she was defending her dear friend Piers because she and Piers share similar values”

Exactly, it’s nothing to do with Piers it’s all about protecting her worldview. The worldview that enables her and so many others to continue their superiority over people.

    • Juniper says:

I get the Popbitch newsletter and it even says that Sharon doesn’t even like Piers all that much. There is an account of her making fun of him after he greeted her and he left. It’s about protecting their place and worldview, exactly what you said, Lily P.

      • A says:

I was just reading that and I got to that part. I also read the bit abt how Piers is desperate to get cancelled, because that’s all his brand is at this point, but it’s not working because no one will cancel him except himself.

  4. Honeybear says:

She is a vile mouthed bully, like Piers she will be feeling so wronged right now because how dare anyone tell them they’re racist. I’m not surprised they’re friends and hate to think how they talk in private. Shuffle off to your mansion and buy twenty more tiny dogs and leave us all in peace thanks!

  5. Trix says:

Why can’t it be both? Why can’t it be Sharon is a racist and CBS set her up? Maybe CBS was looking for some controversy to ensure eyeballs or maybe they finally had enough of her shenanigans and saw this as an opportunity to quickly end their relationship with her knowing it would be difficult for her to not take the bait. Either way, I don’t have sympathy for her at all, but that whole world is cut throat.

    • Mac says:

No one set Sharon up. She is racist and terrible all on her own.

    • josephine says:

If she can’t reply to some simple questions without resorting to full-on bigotry, she’s a bigot. That’s not a set-up. Racists continue to blame everything but their racism for their words and actions. I’m sorry, but you don’t need to see the questions ahead of time to reply in a non-racist way. She’s butt-hurt because she couldn’t do a better job hiding her ugly.

    • MM2 says:

This didn’t start when CBS’s fellow anchors asked Sharon about the unhinged tweet she sent the night before, it started when she sent a hot button tweet knowing she’s on a talk show which discusses this topic & would be working the next day. Your co-workers asking you about a tweet you sent the night before, & giving you the opportunity to explain it, is not “setting you up”. The fact she wants to play the victim because she was simply asked about her tweet, got angry & showed her racist actions towards a Black woman says it all.
You can’t “set someone up” to show their racism that didn’t exist before- they either have those beliefs, or they don’t.

  6. Jo73c says:

Have you noticed that while there are dozens of readily available examples of her terrible behaviour, there is literally not one other person coming forward to defend her?
Not even her best bud Piers Morgan!

  7. Girl_ninja says:

She’s detestable and sad. She and Piers are the same racist and foolish animal. They’re not even original.

    “She doesn’t look black!”

In all of her years this is the first white passing black woman she’s EVER seen?

    Triflin-*ss ole witch.

    • Lawcatb says:

Meghan is not white passing. Anyone can see she’s a poc, and she has never identified or presented herself as a white woman. Sharon was just being ignorant, obstinate, and RACIST.

      • Girl_ninja says:

Meghan is absolutely white passing but has chosen not to live that way. She claims her blackness and has never backed down from that. She knows who she is.

      • GraceB says:

I would agree that Meghan is white passing. My sister and I are mixed race and the same colour as Meghan and most people are shocked when we tell them we are mixed race, which means plenty of people say racist stuff right in front of us because they think we are white people with a tan. I’ve also had people assume I’m Spanish, Portuguese, Indian, Arab.

Saying that, I’ve never been offended by their surprise. I think it’s whats called racial ambiguity. I’m sure I’ve made assumptions about people too. I am more offended when people question it, like they don’t believe me.

It really seems to be more of an American thing to call people black when they’re very light though. The one drop rule? I don’t feel like I could ever claim to be black when I’m light enough for most people to assume I’m white.

      • alibeebee says:

@Lawcatb – I agree with you . I look at Meghan and i thought she was a POC and assumed at least one of her parents was a black person. She looks like members of my own family. My niece and nephews are the same complexion an if you tell them they are not such and such … i fear for the ones who are making that assumption.

@ Girlnanja – I disagree she isn’t but i suppose that depends on life experience, history and what one has been surrounded by, I know Meghan has never denied her heritage and where she comes from .she even wrote that article saying the relation between her and her mother is not the “imitation of life”

@ GraceB – again I disagree.. When i look at her she is obviously a POC as are Arabs, Indians , Some Latinx ( people with colonized roots of spanish and portuguese) would could guess either way … however even Meghan has commented she wasn’t black enough for some roles and not white enough for other roles which left her somewhere hanging out in the in-between … which in some instances is much more difficult than being all one or all the other.

      • Lawcatb says:

Disagree. There may have been a time when some people didn’t know exactly what Meghan was, but they didn’t think she was white. I’m sure Meghan has had the question “what are you?” thrown at her her entire life. Because she was racially ambiguous. That doesn’t mean she was mistaken as white.

Sharon didn’t say Meghan was a white woman. She said she wasn’t Black. The same thing racist conservatives have been saying about President Obama since he was elected. Are you telling me he’s white-passing? No. It’s a tool to diminish the accomplishments of Black people. Sharon was being racist and insulting when she said that. Has Meghan experienced light privilege her entire life? Absolutely. But people are not mistaking her for a white woman and she has never identified herself as such.

      • osito says:

Maybe this is a semantics issues, but I don’t think Meghan is “white passing” either. She might not “look black” to people who think black people can only have one shared set of phenotypic characteristics, but she lives as a woman of color and has (mostly) always identified as such. And I honestly think she “looks” black: she looks like my mom as a young woman; she looks like my aunt; she looks like half of my cousins (the ones who aren’t actually white presenting with their blue eyes, blonde hair, and porcelain skin who are still half black); she’s a light-skinned biracial woman who straightens a hair texture that would make her more noticeably black to some people.

When I was growing up, to “pass” or “be passing” meant that you were actively trying to hide your racial or ethnic identity in order to fit into the “white” box. It was an insult, but was also behavior that absolutely happened. I had (much older) relatives who left the family during the Jim Crow-era only to resurface through 23&me as white people with white spouses, children, and grandchildren on the other side of the country. So when I see “white passing,” I bristle at what seems like a slight. I suppose the meaning has shifted a bit, as illustrated by artists like Halsey using the phrase to define that she might look white, but is proudly biracial, but it still gives me pause.

      • A says:

I think it’s worth pointing out that the whole fact that this is a discussion, with some debate, is proof that race is a tenuously constructed concept to begin with. A lot of the time, it’s not even about how you look at yourself, but rather, how the world looks at you, and for what purpose. I think rather than debating the question of whether or not Meghan is white-passing or not, the real discussion as to shift to interrogating how exactly we’re figuring this stuff out, where those metrics come from, and why. Who taught them to us? And why do we think this matters in the first place?

    • Juniper says:

In some of the anti-Meghan FB groups I used to lurk in, that was a big “argument” for them — that she “didn’t look black, therefore they weren’t racist.” It was unbelievable the vitriol these people used to spew. It was depressing. Small wonder a lot of them were Trump supporters as well. One of the most celebrated members runs a conservative trash rag. She claimed she had a source and the source would say things like “Phillip would shout things to ‘Lilibet.” When someone pointed out they hadn’t lived together in years, that someone got banned, not the “Journalist.” Hmm.

    • Freddy says:

“White-passing” would be the case if Meghan denied she was biracial and her mother was Black–which she has never done. Being a light-skinned is just being light-skinned.

  8. Southern Fried says:

There’s an incident from 2003, a dispute between Sharon and a literary agent from ICM, Rene Tab, where Sharon called her a Persian carpet c*nt. 3 months later outside a restaurant Sharon repeated that a few more times, SPIT on Tab more than once and kicked her sister a few times. Police were called who said it was a civil dispute. Disgusting garbage Osbourne. Sorry if this has already been discussed.

    • equality says:

A civil dispute? Kicking and spitting on people isn’t assault?

      • Southern Fried says:

Yeah, guess back in 2003 it was A-okay.

      • FicklePickle says:

2003 was the middle of the height of the US’s anti-arab/middle eastern/muslim scare.

Found some articles about it, seems that both women alleged the other attacked first, both filed police reports and the LAPD looked into it to see if charges should be filed…since I’m not seeing anything about a resolution they probably did not file charges against either party. I guess without something like clear video of the fight there wasn’t any way to be sure who started it and thus who should be charged.

  9. Merricat says:

Sharon Osbourne doesn’t look human. I mean, she says she is human, but I don’t believe her , do you?

  10. Sofia says:

She’s probably going to get fired but she also won’t face consequences in the long term BUT if she continues to act this way, she definitely will.

Own up, apologise and educate yourself.

  11. Courtney B says:

There are pro-royal Facebook groups that parrot the ‘Meghan doesn’t look black so we can’t be accused of racism’ line. One poster also doubled down and said that we’re all POC because white is a color and we all have red blood anyway or something nonsensical like that.

    • Merricat says:

I can’t roll my eyes hard enough. If they’re bending and twisting like a gold medal gymnast to recast their racism like this, they should just come out and admit it before someone breaks a rib. Yeesh.

  12. Lizzie says:

There is not much network TV that I tune in for so it will be real easy to cancel CBS.
CBS needs to issue a statement saying Sharon is gone and they will not tolerate bullying or I will cancel CBS in my home.

  13. NTheMiddle says:

You know, Sharon was given a voice by management. They knew what was going on for years and allowed her to remain on the show. Yes, Sharon needs to go, but we’ve got to hold uppers accountable for flaming her self-importance.

  14. souperkay says:

this the road where objectivity & both sides lead. the paradox of tolerance requires the immediate striking down of intolerance. racism cannot be debated, it is always wrong full stop, which is why Amanda Seales is 100% correct & Kevin Frazier is WRONG. Attempting to debate racism gives racism credence it does not have. there is zero scientific, moral, or ethical stance where racism has any merit, ever. fire and shun them. racism is hatred and hate speech is not protected.

  15. Darla says:

Meghan looks black, I knew she was black when I saw her. I can’t remember if I thought she might be bi-racial, I doubt it I usually don’t wonder things like that. But this strikes me as more of that “i don’t see color’ isht. She’s a black woman. Light-skinned sure, but that gets into the whole colorism thing and that’s not my lane. I’m white. I knew she was black. Stop.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah, the whole “she doesnt look black” is just so racists like Sharon can say “well I just dont like her, it has nothing to do with her being black, she doesnt even LOOK black!”

Ijeoma Oluo actually had some interesting convos on her facebook over this past week about colorism and the role that plays in the Harry and Meghan situation, and it was interesting to take in as a white woman. But something she said that stuck out to me was that in the end it didnt matter, because no matter how light skinned Meghan is, when she was in a room with the royals, she was the blackest person there.

      • Greywacke says:

The first time I saw gorgeous Meghan, I knew she was part Black. It is so obvious to me. Is this an example of people seeing the infamous photo of that dress and argued whether it was gold or blue? I don’t understand how others don’t perceive her as Black. She clearly experiences the same prejudices other POC do, and it is deeply shameful that this behavior persists in 2021.

    • Nlopez says:

+1 Darla. Im black and she looks like most of my relatives on my fathers side of the family.

  16. Willow says:

Sharon has been a vile woman for many years. Those clips of her bullying the other women are awful. And CBS is equally to blame for enabling her. She’s racist and classiest.

  17. teehee says:

Not to divert the topic but this same energy needs to be applied to men who are misogynist. It isn’t a womans job to explain to men how to not be trash about women, too. Don’t ask us to meet them halfway when they fail at being basically good humans towards women.
(solely because I just came from the post about not doing housework…)
    I’ll leave now 😛

  18. Amy Bee says:

People used to say that Obama wasn’t black or they didn’t see him as black man. Anyone who seeks to deny someone’s heritage is a racist. Sharon is racist and needs to be off the air.

  19. Stacy Dresden says:

This makes me hyperventilate. I just cannot handle this disgusting racism

  20. Shannon says:

Friendless Sharon’s behavior has been known for years, which was why the segment talking about her friend Morgan was going to be a ratings hit either way it fell. The producers knew this, and I’m sure Friendless Sharon thought she’d be able to do what she usually does. The woman has a sweeping and broad history of being a complete A-hole, and she played to form as usual. What Friendless Sharon didn’t realize at the time was she was suddenly facing what she termed the “electric chair”, clearly her guilty conscience signaling to her that she was about to be punished/humiliated on national TV like she has done to countless others, and she lost her sh*t…just like Morgan when he was called out.

    • Anne Call says:

She’ll probably get hired by one of the Fox News-like tv networks that are being created in Britain. Probably work alongside Piers! Older Europeans may go for this stuff (they are more chauvinistic and anti immigrant than Americans, I think) , but anyone under 30 will not be interested.

      • Shannon says:

I don’t care. I want them all concentrated. If either of them gets paid BIG money to continue to make fools of themselves, then I am all for it! They will no longer be able to hide under the flag of respectable journalists, which will banish them to to fringes where they belong.

O’Reilly can tell them all about it.

  21. Carmelita says:

I am so sick of this nasty plastic vapid evil old cow.

  22. Sammiches says:

I bloody well love Amanda Seales

  23. NJ says:

Meghan is mixed race but she still looks like a light skinned black girl. She looks exactly like a lighter version of her mother. I could especially see Doria in her when she was still her post partum

  24. blunt talker says:

Any person who has seen Meghan’s mother would know she has black heritage-to say she does not look black and see her black mother standing there is very ignorant and racist.

  25. Jane Doe says:

We know Meghan does not identify as Black, but it’s quite clear to anyone who has spent time in Black communities in the diaspora that she has Black heritage. The use of white-passing is actually offensive. Passing refers to deception and the act of intentionally hiding your heritage and family connections. Meghan is experiencing misogynoir, and would be experiencing even even more intense anti-Blackness and sexism if she were darker in complexion.
A white woman declaring who does and does not look Black is racist.

  26. Str8shooter says:

This shrieking hyena’s voice should have been used at Guantanamo years ago. Just imagine listening to that loud, horrid screeching for hours on end. That would get anyone to talk!

    • Shannon says:

Guantanamo? Yes, I guess American’s have learned of many ways to squeeze the shit out of people. We are good at that. Sharon is just being squeezed because she’s so full of it.
