Jodie Sweetin is not happy her movie will air on Great American Family network

While Candace Cameron Bure continually reveals herself to be a mean, homophobic bigot, her Fuller House costar Jodie Sweetin shows up as an ally for everyone whom Candace hates. Which is why Jodie was not happy when she learned her new movie, Craft Me a Romance, had been sold to Cameron’s Great American Family network. Remember, the network that was created because Hallmark had become a hotbed of homo-eroticism? On Friday Entertainment Weekly reported on Jodie’s reaction to the news of the film sale:

Oh my lanta. Jodie Sweetin is none too pleased that one of her upcoming films has been sold to Candace Cameron Bure’s Great American Family.

In a statement issued to PEOPLE, Sweetin said she was surprised to learn that her film Craft Me a Romance had been sold to the network, which counts her former Full House costar as chief creative officer, without her knowledge.

“Sometimes, we, as actors, don’t have control over which network buys the projects we are in, nor are we a part of the process in which they get sold,” she said. “So I was very surprised to learn by reading about it in the press yesterday that the independent film I worked on over a year ago was sold to Great American Family.”

Sweetin, 41, continued, “I am disappointed, but in keeping with my mission of supporting the LGBTQ+ family, any potential or future money made from this sale will be donated to LGBTQ+ organizations.”

The film, which also stars Brent Bailey, Maxwell Caulfield, and Julie Brown, is part of the network’s autumn slate and will premiere Sept. 16. It stars Sweetin as the owner of a quaint arts and crafts store who finds herself faced with an ultimatum when the owner of a competing store (Bailey) tells her she must either sell her store or be forced out of business.

Great American Family didn’t immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

Yeah, I would be gutted too if I learned that my work would be making money for GAF. That being said, I’m a little confused when Jodie says “any potential or future money made from this sale will be donated to LGBTQ+ organizations.” What money is she referring to, specifically? Is it her salary? It’s just weird to say “money from this sale” when she’s not a producer on the film. Aside from that, I have no doubt Jodie will find a positive, proactive way to pivot this development into something good for the LGBTQ+ community. Maybe then we’ll be able to move on from bemoaning the sale of the film to GAF, to bemoaning the film’s title. Seriously, how did “Craft Me a Romance” go through multiple meetings and get approved?!?!

    >> What money is she referring to, specifically?

Likely residuals and other back end guarantees.

    • kirk says:

Residuals, if any, would likely be identified as paid by Great American Media. She obviously has some idea of how to account the original income.

  2. Bee says:

Actors typically get residuals. That’s a big part of what the strike is about!

CCB is terrible and has psycho eyes. Saw her on DWTS and she’s quite a piece of work! I love this for GAF. Or as I like to call it, WTF.

    • Sean says:

I always refer to her as Crazy Eyes Candace.

Seriously, her smile never reaches her eyes and they have a manic, yet vacant look. There’s real malice behind them. Such a stark difference from the sweet child that was on Full House.

I wonder what happened to her (and Kirk) to make them so hateful? I know they’re evangelicals but they converted in their teens. I’ve seen that type of social conditioning from “Christians” that grew up in fundamentalist homes and know nothing else but from teenage converts?

      • Elizabeth Phillips says:

Sean, remember Michele Duggar was a teen convert…

      • Gennessee says:

Also, from my experience, converts tend to be the most “fanatical” in their religious zealotry. Like they have something to prove or something. Born in the Faiths tend to convert OUT more often.

    I absolutely love the title!

Good for her for speaking about this.

  4. Savu says:

Appreciate this from her, however OH MY GOD THAT MOVIE POSTER

  5. Concern Fae says:

Craft Me a Romance is a perfectly cromulent title for this film and clues the audience as to exactly what sort of film they should expect. Hallmark, etc movies have very twee titles in general. But good on her for distancing herself from the channel where it’s showing.

  6. antipodean says:

How in this day and age did any informed person think that naming a network GAF was a good idea? CCB has always given me the tightly wound heebie jeebies. There is craziness behind her wide eyes.

  7. osito says:

I agree with everyone that Jodie is referring to residuals or any backend payment agreements that are part of her contract.

Honestly, I really like her. She struggled for a long time, and pulled through that with hard work that she’s explored openly and publicly. I’ll watch her romcom if it ever shows up on a network that’s not GAF.

    CCB is terrifying.

I appreciate her donation, but I really wish she’d keep her money. Take them for whatever you have due, Jodie!
