Times: Queen Camilla is also displeased with Charles & Harry’s meeting

Something which has been glossed over in the past week’s royal coverage is that Queen Camilla was not around for any of the royal maneuvers. Camilla has been hiding out in Balmoral (or Birkhall, more specifically) for the past month. She’s barely been seen after she went on a luxury vacation on a yacht with her family. Camilla did not join her husband in London last week for his day-trip, and she was not around when King Charles met Prince Harry at Clarence House. I think Charles set it up that way on purpose. Despite Camilla’s cozy relationship with the tabloids and the tabloids’ insistence that Charles would do anything to “protect” Camilla from Harry, Charles doesn’t consult with Camilla about every single thing and they spend a great deal of time apart. Which brings me to Roya Nikkhah’s exclusive in the Sunday Times. The piece is called: “Why Prince William can’t forgive Harry.” Roya was told the same thing that every other royal reporter was told, that William is absolutely furious about Harry (but too lazy to do much about anything). Check out the curious mention of Camilla in this piece though.

What will William make of his brother’s return? A royal source said William “has been very jolly all week” but publicly he has made no comment, preferring to focus on his own engagements. He will have kept a close eye on Harry’s coverage and the public’s reaction, though. While his younger brother bounced through balloon fights with children at the WellChild awards and splashy announcements of a £1.1m donation to Children in Need and more than £360,000 for the injured children of Gaza and Ukraine, William dutifully trudged from Berkshire to Lambeth to Cardiff for engagements which also championed young people and mental health awareness.

As much as Harry insists he remains committed to “a life of public service”, the reality is he walked away from the daily grind five years ago, with profound consequences for William and his family. Those wounds run deep.

For all Harry’s assaults on the royal family during Queen Elizabeth’s final years, the missiles fired in his memoir, Spare, the bombshells of the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary and all the interviews in between, friends say it is the fact there is no longer a wingman, a brother to share the present and future heavy load, that has always stung William most. He may never forgive him for the impact that has on Catherine, who is in remission from cancer, and Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, seven, whose future responsibilities may have differed slightly if the Sussexes had stuck around.

As a close friend told me after Harry and Meghan left these shores, William “definitely feels the pressure now it’s all on him. His future looks different because of his brother’s choices. It’s not easy.”

Now the King has taken the first tentative step on the path towards reconciliation, the spotlight will turn to William, along with questions of whether he will, or should, do the same. There will be public commentary, expectation and hope that if a father considers forgiveness, why not a brother? But as another of William’s closest friends once told me, when it comes to relationships with the future king, “it is all about trust and loyalty”. William feels he has lost both with Harry and that may prove too difficult a roadblock to pass.

The King is now back at Balmoral for a few days before returning to London for the Duchess of Kent’s funeral on Tuesday, then hosting the Trumps at Windsor Castle from Wednesday on their state visit.

Charles will have briefed the Queen on his meeting with Harry, who has described her as “dangerous” and “a villain” who “left bodies in the street” in her quest to improve her public image. Camilla could be forgiven for not being jubilant about her husband’s reunion with Harry. As a royal source said: “He has been extremely unkind to her in print and in word and she doesn’t forgive easily.” And as a close friend of the King said: “The royal family make elephants look like they have short memories.” Some members of the family may, in time, forgive Harry for the damage and hurt they feel he has caused, but none of them will forget.

[From The Times]

It’s interesting to consider that Charles might have blown off Camilla and William’s “concerns” by meeting Harry. It’s also striking that this is yet another instance where Camilla and William are on the same side, the side of racism, jealousy, pettiness, hatred and press-briefings. As for the main thrust of this piece, William and his inability to forgive Harry, I actually love how the stories keep changing. There’s never been any consistency with William’s side – he’s been absolutely furious with Harry for years. Years before Netflix, years before the Oprah interview, years before Harry & Meghan dipped. It’s almost like William’s original grievance, the real breaking point between brothers, was the fact that Harry fell in love with Meghan, an accomplished, beautiful, multilingual, kind, gracious American woman. William has not been able to keep his sh-t together for a f–king decade because his brother married a bad bitch. Incidentally, Camilla also couldn’t stand it – it was like Diana all over again.

  1. Crystal says:

I believe she wasn’t happy but I also believe she enjoys anything that makes William uncomfortable and so could tolerate it.

    • Chloe says:

I believe she isn’t happy about it because she wasn’t invited to the meeting and therefore can’t leak what was discussed to the press. We all know how much camilla loves a leak. Especially to improve her own image.

We will see if charles will continue to keep his end of the bargain.

      • Tessa says:

Charles does not insist he be there when Camilla talks to one or both of her children. So why can’t she do the same with Charles meeting Harry

    • Becks1 says:

yeah I don’t think she loved it especially as she was completely cut out of it but I do think she probably enjoys that it gets under William’s skin. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these stories about William’s unhinged response are coming from her camp.

      • jais says:

Better William looking unhinged than her looking unhinged and just as equally cut out.

      • LB says:

Charles is denying Camilla who is a control freak a say in the matter. She had her talons embedded into Charles since before he was married to Diana.

I don’t believe it’s racism, rather it’s ego. Who gets the most news print? Not the boring Wales and the ancient queen. And preferring not to compete in the popular stakes. The Wales want to keep on their high perch.

  2. Lady Esther says:

Speaking of elephants, how big was the one in the room emblazoned ‘DIANA” while Camilla picked up the phone and dialed all of her friends in the rota? The absolute gall of that woman trying to act victimized by Harry never ceases to amaze me…

  3. Tessa says:

It’s not Camilla business. What does she expect. She treated Meghan dreadfully by not publicly complaining about the Clarkson hit piece and she and Charles treated Diana badly. What really bothers me is deranger propaganda aboit harry and Meghan making the queens life miserable despite the evidence against such a claim. The scandals of Andrew caused her grief.

  4. Sueinorleans says:

Anyone else twitch when they read the words Queen Camilla? Not my Queen.

  5. Libra says:

William’s rage isn’t about what Harry said and wrote, it’s rage and fear about what he didn’t say and may say in the future.

    • Osty says:

Then shouldn’t he treat Harry right or just ignore him like he always insisting he is doing and hope Harry doesn’t reveal all his sycopanthic behaviour 🤔

  6. Aimee says:

She is NOT The Queen and she never will be and William has never been “jolly” in his freaking life.

  7. Ciotog says:

If he really wanted Harry to work for the RF, he wouldn’t have launched a hate campaign against him or his wife, who hit the ground running when she became part of the family. He would’ve lobbied Charles to fund the Sussexes. He would’ve let them stay “half in.” But this expectation is also ridiculous. Has any younger sibling had these expectations placed on them??

    • jais says:

This. If Harry was that important as a wingman, then William should’ve treated him well. Instead, he launched a smear campaign, physically assaulted him and demanded he split with Meghan, the mother of his child. How in the world can William get mad that Harry didn’t want to stick around after that? The delusion.

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, In another post, @MsIam reminded us of the stories about how William wanted to send H&M to Africa. So, how was Harry going to be a wingman from Botswana? William didn’t think he needed a wingman. Charles was going to live forever, like his mother – and after that, George could do the heavy lifting.

      • The Shrew says:

William doesn’t think he needs a wingman, he’s the bestest, smartest, pegger of all time! He’s a statesman dontcha know? It’s just everyone else around the monarchy, including the rota, that know he needs help. Again, it’s fascinating all the bits coming out this week.

      • jais says:

I can believe William would make Harry fly in from Africa every time he didn’t want do an event.

      • BeanieBean says:

That’s what William is so p*ssed off about–he thinks he can do this all on his own & the press keeps publishing stories about how much he NEEDS Harry! Which, of course, implies that he’s totally incompetent & inadequate to the task.

  8. Too bad so sad for the evil queen and Peg the lazy. I’m sure they are stewing in their jealousy and hate and the nasty articles will flow. How long will it take for Horsilla to spill (if she is told) what went on in the meeting and it will look like Harry was the one to spill the tea? I’m sure she is working on that right know.

    • Iolanthe says:

Somehow I think Harry is a non issue for Camilla because he is an ocean away minding his own business . She has her King , her crown , her dear little sins and of course she is Queen Camilla. William must be the thorn in her side because he is ever present with the middle of the road Middleton. Cam is landed gentry and definitely a snob , so Kate waiting in the wings for title, tiara , ever present miserable children and jewels won’t sit well with her.

  9. Eurydice says:

Oh dear, the Queen is displeased. Whatever shall we do?

Camilla can leak poisonous stories to the press, but she’s really a spent force. She’ll always be hated because of Diana and when Charles is gone she’ll fade into obscurity.

  10. Julia says:

Imagine if your family told you your job was to always put your brother first? First before your own wife and kids and your own hopes and dreams! Most of us would think they were mad and refuse. The RF really live in an alternate universe!

  11. Gemini says:

Camilla has been in Harry’s life since he was a child. Do the tabloids talk about one single incident, one single anecdote where she was kind to Harry, where she showed him some motherly compassion?

    • Tessa says:

I don’t think Harry met Camilla until he was 13. Charles would have news briefings as when his sons met Camilla. Harry was at Charles birthday party along with William, when Camilla also was guest. He was not a child, but a young teen. William met Camilla for Tea in Summer 1998

    • Tessa says:

I was thinking in terms of his not being a small child.

      • Carmen says:

Is there ever a time that’s documented of Camilla showing Harry kindness.
Didn’t Harry say Camilla and his father would tease him at the breakfast table by saying his father was someone else.

    • L Williams says:

@Gemini What kindness has Charles or Camilla shown Harry. After Diana died Harry begged to stay with his father but was packed of to board school. Only to come home when is father wanted a photo op. As for Camilla what kindness. Was it when she took over his bedroom and turned it into a closet. Or the fact his father has him wear hand me clothes or shoes with holes in the bottom Or the fact he was carrying his clothes around in a garbage bag. Or maybe it was the cottage that he lived in at Kensington Palace where ceiling height was so low he couldn’t stand up straight.

  12. ParkRunMum says:

god do these two individuals deserve each other. How ironic. What would Diana make of the fact that her son turned out to be so much like her nemesis? I mean. Wow.

  13. Pumpkin says:

William talks a game about trust and loyalty but that has to be earned. William got it initially from Harry out of brotherly love and familial duty but when Harry needed William’s trust and loyalty, not only did he not give it but absolutely threw both H&M at the wolves.

    • AMB says:

William’s brand of “trust and loyalty” is a lot like Trump’s – it’s all about others’ loyalty to them, and their ability to trust those others to put William’s and Trump’s interests ahead of their own. It’s a one-way street.

  14. Penelope Cowell Doe says:

Heavy load? Is this heavy load in the room with you now William?

  15. Lover says:

The only “heavy load” William carries is the one in his diaper that makes him cry all the time.

Camilla had every opportunity in the world to befriend friend Harry and, later, Meghan. It would have benefited her. She chose not to, and it’s obvious why. She made her own bed.

  16. Cali says:

Something that just struck me is how close the Trump visit is.
I wonder if Charles wanted to make himself look good ahead of this. Benevolent dad instead of creepy neglectful father.
This is a way for Charles to get some positive coverage in the American press.
And Charles can drag William at the same time.

  17. Jan says:

Why is Harry suppose to be doing all the work and Cain is reaping all the benefits.

  18. sunnyside up says:

If William wanted his brother’s help because he was incapable of doing the job on his own, he shouldn’t have assaulted Harry, or try to break Harry and Meghan up, or stick his finger in Meghan’s face and Kate shouldn’t have refused to cuddle Meghan when they met, been concerned about Archie’s colour or allow the lie about crying to stand.
They made their bed now they will have to lie in it.

  19. MsIam says:

Camilla, yet another psychopath in that bunch. Good for Harry to be concerned enough about his father to actually go over there in person. I would be too afraid. And if I were Meghan, Charles would have to visit me and my kids at the airport lounge because that would be the only place I would feel safe around him or any of that cabal.

  20. s808 says:

I don’t get Camilla’s ire. Yes, another beautiful, charismatic woman joined but M was never competing with Camilla for Charles. Camilla’s has gotten everything she’s wanted: the money, the status, Charles’ ear. M being around also ensured that W&H would always be at crossroads so it’s not like they’d be ganging up on Camilla anytime soon. Long term, I don’t get what her real problem is.

    • ParkRunMum says:

this is to reply to @S808, I am intrigued by your remark, because I agree, 100%, if Camilla were a rational actor, M would hardly bother her. If she were really as blasé as she pretends to be about it all, she would hardly find M threatening. Neither would Kate. She’s obviously been allotted her role, in which duties are basically optional, as Kate was, and both of them have been granted exalted social status and vast wealth in exchange for paltry social engagement and sporadic formal work. Why do they cackle together over how much both hate M? Why do they jointly mock and taunt and smear her? Much as Will & Charles treat Harry? Because she shows them up for the spiteful, shallow, self-serving people they are. Like most people suffering some form of cognitive dissonance, rather than engage in any introspection, or make any effort to address their manifest failings, both simply mock someone who puts them to shame. As if the real cause for shame were trying to help. It’s incredibly cynical and entitled behaviour. I predict a genuine reckoning when Charles passes. He’s the last member of the family with a sense of social duty who takes any of his work seriously. That was the one thing he & Diana had in common.

      • bisynaptic says:

Camilla seems to be, foundationally, a chaos agent. I suspect she sees the world in binary terms. Meghan wasn’t going to be ally, so…

    • jais says:

This is an interesting question. I can only imagine seeing Meghan’s shine, especially with Harry, Diana’s son, was too much for her. It must’ve been a truly visceral and emotional response bc yeah, long term, what was the real plan. But at the same time, like William and the rest of the them, she didn’t really expect the sussexes to just leave altogether. She thought she’d have years of pitting the two couples against each other and demeaning Meghan’s shine.

    • QuiteContrary says:

Camilla wouldn’t care that Meghan wasn’t competing for Charles. Meghan was competing for what Camilla really wanted, and will never get: public admiration.

Of course, the competition was all in Camilla’s head. Meghan just wanted kindness and compassion, not popularity.

    • Carmen says:

Camilla got everything she wanted including Charles calling her his Queen. This was against his mother, the Queen’s final wishes.

  21. Honey says:

From the article: As much as Harry insists he remains committed to “a life of public service”, the reality is he walked away from the daily grind five years ago, with profound consequences for William and his family. Those wounds run deep.

Henry wasn’t in line to be King. He didn’t abdicate. The lion’s share of the work should always be on William. It’s his inheritance. Did he give up the Duchy? The money? No. Then, shut up and stop trying to redirect and blame Harry. Finally, what impact on poor Kate? Kate, who never puts a foot wrong. Give me a break. I have never in my life seen or heard tell of anyone making life choices that doesn’t directly affect Person A being blamed for Person A’s inherent laziness and inability. They will still be blaming Harry when the grandchildren come. 🙄

    • Lady Digby says:

@Honey also the irony is that the actual heir has taken both SG and duchy income and stayed on holiday or in another mansion paid for by someone else! Since he became PoW he has reduced his already lacklustre number of engagements further so now it is just an event or more likely a Sports final per day! He’s the one who has shamelessly filled his pockets and “walked away from the daily grind!” Yes that’s right it is William in plain view of everyone who has run away from his responsibilities and blatantly claimed to be superior to every other parent because he is so hands on and puts his kids before his job!?

    • Bebe says:

Exactly this, they make it sound like Harry was heir and abdicated. It baffles me how often William is portrayed as if he had no idea he would be king one day and what that would entail.

  22. Dee(2) says:

For all that they seem to dislike each other it’s very interesting to me how similar William and Camilla are. They constantly frame themselves as the victim in situations where they hold most of the power.

William is upset because Harry left and now he has the bulk of the work on his shoulders? Isn’t that the way it always was supposed to be? Aren’t you literally the next king? Don’t you get all of the privileges of the duchy money, the precedence in the hierarchy, and the political capital and legal rights given to you because of shouldering all of that yourself?

And Camilla likes to pretend that she somehow just fell into being married to Charles through no machinations of her own. That she was happy to just be a country wife but couldn’t stop her heart. She ignores seeking out Diana’s friendship, cultivating these media relationships, constantly being a source for the past 40 years. Encouraging strife and distance in Charles and his son’s relationship. And she doesn’t understand why someone that was the recipient of this treatment may not think kindly of you?

They both see themselves as bystanders who are being treated unfairly, instead of active participants in the results that they have reaped. Such a victim complex.

    • jais says:

The only thing I can think of is that Harry was supposed to be like Anne. But at the same time, it’s never been said that Charles NEEDS Anne so it’s very different. And Anne was protected far more than Harry ever was.

  23. Beckett says:

“… whose future responsibilities may have differed slightly if the Sussexes had stuck around. William definitely feels the pressure now it’s all on him. His future looks different because of his brother’s choices.”

It’s as if they are bewildered by Harry having a mind or opinions of his own.
In their narrow-minded and simplistic schemes, he was just supposed to fit in with their plans, not to express any view or have any desires…
He was simply meant to be a little robot, put to work as and when needed, to support his big brother in His Important Job.

    • MsIam says:

William is jealous of Harry being around but he’s angry because Harry is not around to “help” him. Now try to solve this conundrum. Something is wrong with William if this is truly how he thinks. Any rational person would try and get away from this situation as quickly as possible.

    • BeanieBean says:

And the pressure was always all on William, he’s the next in line. That’s how it works.

  24. Harla says:

I love that the British press continues to spell the beans that they don’t trust William to be king all on his own, without Harry to prop him up, lead him by the hand and basically do his job for him.

    • BeanieBean says:

Which is what is truly p*ssing William off. He’s the Fredo in that family; he’s smart! he can handle things! Not like everybody says!

  25. maisie says:

OMG queue up the orchestra of tiny violins. If there were any competitors for the award for self-pity and grievance to Charles, William is nosing into the lead.

  26. Over it says:

Camilla has her children. She won’t be happy with anyone that wronged them .that woman is without a soul. And one day her chickens will come home to roost

  27. QuiteContrary says:

William keeps admitting that he’s not up to the job of king.

  28. Kaiserin says:

I am pretty sure he was as displeased when she was sleeping with his father while married to Diana, Princess of Wales.

  29. CherryBerry says:

It sounds to me like Camilla isn’t around Charles as much anymore. Like, she basically doesn’t live with him anymore. I saw this interesting article over the weekend about how they’re basically divorced. Do they have the same arrangement as Phil and QE had, as W&K have? And I wonder when this started?

    https://radaronline.com/p/king-charles-camilla-divorce-secret-separate-homes/

    • Magdalena says:

Sounds like a projection for William and Kate, the same way they use M+H’s names when they are really describing some situation involving those two?

    • Becks1 says:

They’ve had separate homes pretty much the entirety of their marriage, there’s never been any secret about that. When charles is too much Camilla pops off to Ray mill for a weekend (or when she wants to spend time with her kids/grandkids.) She used to apparently just do the Christmas walk at sandringham and then leave for Ray Mill – that may have changed now that she’s queen.

    • bisynaptic says:

Isn’t living separate lives the time-honored aristo way?

  30. Snarkle says:

When they say William is all about trust and loyalty what they really mean is subservience or servitude. If this petty tyrant ruled 400-500 years ago, he would have out-beheaded Henry VIII.

  31. Amy Bee says:

William truly believed was if he could get Meghan to leave the UK that Harry would have stayed and continue to work for the Royal Family. He only has himself to blame.

  32. MaisiesMom says:

What “daily grind?” William doesn’t have to go to work every day. He spends more time on vacation and just hanging around than he does at official events and visits. And in exchange for showing up a couple of times a week and trying to look interested, he gets multiple lavish homes and buckets of money.

  33. Teagirl says:

“For all Harry’s assaults on the royal family during Queen Elizabeth’s final years, the missiles fired in his memoir, Spare, the bombshells of the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary and all the interviews in between, ….” wait, what? What interviews in between? All the interviews I’ve seen have been specific to a charity, a legal case, or a visit. I’ve seen nothing else where H&M told anything about the BRF. There haven’t been a lot of interviews by Meghan and those that have been done were very specific. Ditto Harry. And there certainly haven’t been regular ‘spill the beans’ interviews.

And as we have said many times on CB, no one ever says Harry lied. They just ding him for revealing things they’d rather were kept quiet.

  34. Faraway says:

Bulliam wanted Harry ( and H’s wife and kids) to function as a flak jacket for him and Kate & their offspring!
    The gal!

  35. BeanieBean says:

What???– ‘Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, seven, whose future responsibilities may have differed slightly if the Sussexes had stuck around.’

Those kids’ lives are not dependent on ANYTHING H&M may or may not do with their own lives. They are still the ones directly after William in the line of succession; Harry’s presence in the UK would have made zero difference in their lives (because we know W&K would have cut off contact completely).

And this: ‘William “definitely feels the pressure now it’s all on him. His future looks different because of his brother’s choices. It’s not easy.’ Bullsh*t. Same thing. He’s directly after Charles, Harry’s presence/absence in the UK changes nothing for William.

    • jais says:

Thank you. Such a good point. the monarchy shouldn’t depend on child labor or making their kids start work as soon as they’re 18 or something. And whether the spare decides to stay in the business or not shouldn’t be a factor in that. It sounds more like Will and Kate are going to want to do less than they even do even in around 10 years and rather than foist the work on the sussexes they’re now looking at their kids. That’s on them and their conscience and the system of the monarchy, not Harry.

  36. BeanieBean says:

Is Camilla’s polka dot outfit a sweet nod to Kate in her time of need? You know, the cancer?

  37. bisynaptic says:

William’s original grievance is that Harry was born.
