Adrian Grenier: slimy douche, or a nice guy who gets a bad rap?

wenn2891730

Back when Adrian Grenier first hit the scene (a decade ago?), I thought he was adorable. Not the greatest actor or the smartest young man, but he has a kind of Jude Law-prettiness to him, and I remember thinking that if this kid had smart people around him, he could do well. Years later, he got the gig on Entourage, and has since become a television star and a somewhat known as a man about town (in LA), dating various starlets (Paris Hilton?) and getting involved in cool causes (the environment). Somewhere along the line, I got the feeling the dude was a douche. Not a horrible guy, mind you, but a bit pleased with himself, I bit of a man-slut, and still not all that bright (he thinks mermaids are real).

So Adrian is promoting the new season of Entourage, and he did Us Weekly’s “25 Things You Don’t Know About Me”. This recurring piece is one of my new favorites – even Elizabeth Taylor did it! So I was glancing through Adrian’s piece, and I have to say… he comes across like a sweetheart. Not all that bright, mind you, but genuinely nice and sweet. Was I wrong about him?

Adrian Grenier, 34 (catch Entourage on HBO Sundays at 10:30 P.M.) shares the 25 things you don’t know about him with UsMagazine.com.

1. If I went back to college, I’d study linguistics.
2. My house in Brooklyn is insulated with recycled denim.
3. Contrary to popular belief, I was raised in Manhattan, not Brooklyn.
4. I think women are prettiest with no makeup on, but I’m a sucker for red lipstick.
5. I once “liberated” myself by smashing my cellphone — and I regretted it moments later.
6. I want to start a revolution against media and use media to do it.
7. I’m happiest playing drums with The Honey Brothers.
8. I have directed or produced three documentaries in four years.
9. I talk to my mom almost every day.
10. I’m not a “germy.” Five-second rule, baby!
11. I scuba-dive.
12. I’m godfather to a child who’s become an outstanding young woman.
13. I wouldn’t mind running for political office — if only I could dispose of incriminating photos from my youth.
14. My favorite movie is The NeverEnding Story.
15. My friends keep me grounded.
16. I believe in honesty above all.
17. I change my mind several times before returning to my original decision.
18. I’m turned on by a woman who has a strong vocabulary and is not afraid to use it.
19. In junior high, I wanted to be Jewish to fit in.
20. I worry my eco efforts have not done anything.
21. I make amazing rosemary and caramelized onion pizza.
22. I think about golf much more than I should.
23. I wish I could gain wisdom without growing old.
24. I feel blessed to be able to follow my creative impulses.
25. I think you should go to teenagepaparazzo.com and participate in the discussion. Go ahead. Do it now.

[From Us Weekly]

See? He sounds like a sweetheart. F-ck, now I really like him. He talks to his mom every day! He doesn’t think women should wear makeup! He adores his goddaughter! I laughed out loud at “I want to start a revolution against media and use media to do it.” Good luck with that one, bro.

Here are so more photos of my new crush… the eyebrows could be manscaped a bit.

    Honestly, who cares?

  2. PrettyTarheel says:

I appreciate the non-manscaped brows. It keeps him from looking completely groomed and Hollywoodish. I really love him on Entourage. I think most of his douche rep comes from the Paris Hilton association. *shudders*

  3. Jen Wind says:

For some reason I have a small place in my heart for him. He just seems adorable, and harmless!! Although he has horrible taste in woman..seriously Paris Hilton?!?!

  4. PrettyTarheel says:

Also, is there a place where we can find out how you determine who will be moderated?

  5. Kaiser says:

pretty tarheel – The mod system is strange, I’ll admit. Even when I leave comments, I get moderated too! We use a system that flags comments by certain words, and CB & I also moderate certain commenters individually.

Edit: And you’re not being mod’ed individually, I just checked.

  6. Sarah says:

Was he the guy in that one movie with Melissa Joan Hart back in the 90’s? I can’t think of the name of it but that’s the only thing I’ve ever seen him in. Thought he was a cutie back then, still not too shabby.

  7. PrettyTarheel says:

*phew* I was like, what did I do????? I never threaten death on anyone, and I try not to start stuff with anyone, although people take offense to the strangest things.
    I feel better now.

  8. Obvious says:

You Drive Me Crazy-still one of my fav movies. I have always adored him and now i do even more.

Let’s leave his brows alone, I love them. Make him unique….and his eyes….ohhhhhh his eyes…

  9. Sumodo1 says:

Eh, he’ll end up as the “Uncle Jessie” of his generation. They could be older brother/younger brother on TV?

How can you NOT love Grenier for saying that his favorite movie is “The Neverending Story?” (Artax, The Luck Dragon!)

  10. embertine says:

I’m delighted to say I have absolutely no idea who this person is. Now, if I could only extend that obliviousness to the Gosselins, Tila Tequila and the entire cast of Jersey Shore…

    TO THE BRAIN BLEACH!!!

  11. Obvious says:

and now it is my turn to be moderated-0as again….is there a lit of words I should avoid? Or am I being individually moderated?

  12. LOVE ANGELINA says:

As far as I know he did a documentary on celebrity and Paris helped him. She let him follow her around and as easy as she is I doubt they hooked up. I am hoping they never did anything. I adored him since he did that movie with Melissa Joan Hart and Ali Later. It was called Drive Me Crazy…totally fell in love with him then. I find Entourage to misogynistic, but I watch it sometimes. He is a real doll.

  13. canadianchick says:

He’s hot-I’d hit it. More of him and Jon Hamm please.

  14. Kaiser says:

Obvious – Not as far as I can see. People, I’m not going to check you all individually! Just go on commenting as you usually do, your comments are usually only moderated for a few minutes anyway.

  15. LOVE ANGELINA says:

@Obvious every one is moderated and thank god they are. Your comments aren’t bad and I have never seen bias against anyone’s own thoughts. So don’t worry about it.

  16. Relli says:

@ Sarah “Drive me Crazy” I saw it in the theaters when it came out and yes Kaiser I was deeply in love with him then too 🙂

  17. Dorothy says:

    Dreamy!!!

  18. Green Is Good says:

    Team Eyebrows!

  19. Leek says:

I was hooked after the Adventures of Sebastian Cole. He does seem nice and I was wondering if he was a douche, too. The character he plays is based on Marky Mark so maybe that’s where the confusion comes in to play.

  20. gg says:

    LOL @ embertine!

  21. scotchy says:

    he is so cute.

  22. Karen says:

When I was a teenager, I was in love with him after seeing “The Adventures of Sebastian Cole”. He seems to be modest and keep a relatively low profile, I still like him though he isn’t as hot as I thought he was when I was 17. 🙂

  23. susanne says:

I would’ve put my money on douche, but the 25 questions sold me.

Am I really going to be the first to make a Monchichi (sp) comparison?

Men with hair like that should wear it all unkempt and sexy.

  24. xx says:

I’m old and have kids, and I STILL watch Drive Me Crazy every time I see it’s on. Love Entourage. Love him. And his eyebrows.

  25. Katija says:

I am on the fence about the manscaping thing. My brother has eyebrows like his, and I paid him $50 to have them waxed – He ended up looking like an off-duty drag queen. Perhaps Garnier or whatever should just wax the top, and leave the bottom alone. They are QUITE large and all over the place, however.

  26. Nanea says:

@ susanne: ITA about the Monchichi!

  27. JustBe says:

I’ve had a soft spot for him since I saw a documentary he did where he was searching for his father who left him and his mom when he was young.
In the doc, he was incredibly honest and vulnerable and funny too.
The fact that he’s gorgeous only adds to the panty drop.

  28. Bella Bella says:

One of my favorite photos of him is on The Sartorialist blog October 2009.

  29. K. says:

I’ve met him — no question, slimy douche!

  30. K. says:

p.s. based on the way I saw him behave around Jayde Nicole, his alleged “no makeup” preference is FALSE!

  31. Johanna says:

    Lol, team eyebrows! *Brilliant*
I wonder if his goddaughter is Camilla Belle or for all we know he could be referring to Joe Jonas 🙂

  32. bananapanda says:

    DULL. He’s a poor man’s John Stamos.

  33. Henriette says:

Meh. I read his answers and now I think he’s more a douche than I thought before.

  34. Boombeeba says:

    What is his ethnic background?

  35. original kate says:

meh. he seems nice but he doesn’t do it for me. however, i have a (gay male) friend who is in LOVE with adrian. this will make his day – thanks, CB!

  36. omondieu says:

He likes The Neverending Story, linguistics, and women with a wide vocabulary?

I’m yours for the taking, Adrian!

  37. Kitten says:

So hot. I’ve loved him forever but was really turned off by the “call my mom every day” comment. Ugh I HATE mama’s boys.

  38. Erin says:

Don’t like him…seems douchey and kinda screams tool, right?

  39. Mouse says:

I’m a red blooded heterosexual woman and I fail to see the sex appeal in this brain dead, hairy guy with weird lips. Let me look one more time….hm, nope. I’ll pass.

  40. Mouse says:

The Never Ending Story was my fav as a kid, I would take it to watch with the kids when I was babysitting. Sumodo1, Artex is Atreyu’s horse. The dragon is Falcor.

  41. notgaga says:

Likes women with big vocabularies and dated Paris Hilton? His publicist wrote this.

  42. CB Rawks says:

    DouchAY

  43. Mrs Odie 2 says:

I’m sure someone on his PR team wrote this. “Women like men who like smart women and who love their mothers, Adrien, so go with those kinds of answers.”

The Neverending Story is a children’s movie. He hasn’t seen anything better than that in 25 years?

He screams “slimy douche” to me. And I hate Entourage. I find the scumbag hanger-on friends creepy. It makes you think about all your boyfriends of the past’s jerk friends. They were such losers! Why did he love them/want to hang out with them more than you? How many ball jokes can you laugh at? How much porn can you watch in the company of other men and still call yourself straight?

  44. DDD Cups of Justice says:

I met Adrian a couple of years ago when I was a freshman in college, and he was really sweet. He was doing some sort of environment petition at my school. We hugged but I was too shy to ask to take a picture. But I didn’t start watching Entourage until a year ago. I love it!

  45. Confuzzle says:

He comes across as needing to brush his back every morning because of those hirsute brows. But a decent feller.

  46. notsoanonymous says:

I agree – after watching the docu he did on finding his father (Shot in the Dark) I was smitten.

  47. gee_gee says:

Whoa. From a distance this dude is cute. But up close it looks like his hairline and his eyebrows are fighting over who gets to eat his forehead. Very distracting.

  48. kaisar says:

You obviously haven’t seen a lot of his interviews. I think out of all the male actors I’ve seen, he is by far the most intelligent.
