Does Josh Hartnett’s gorgeous model girlfriend need makeup?

fp_5421879_sgp_hartnett_jos
We haven’t heard much about Josh Hartnett lately. He hasn’t done the PR circuit for a film in some time, he hasn’t been spotted in a few months macking on another random celebrity we vaguely dislike (like Kirsten Dunst, Sienna Miller, Mary-Kate Olsen or Abbie Cornish), and apart from event appearances he just hasn’t been around. There may be a very good reason for that – Josh is busy getting serious with a new girlfriend! He was seen out with Norweigan model Sophia Lie in Italy over the weekend. The two were photographed kissing on a yacht and at dinner. Given how clear and close up the photos are, I can’t help but think they were arranged to boost Hartnett’s sagging career. I know – why do I have to be such a cynic? Here’s OK! Magazine’s report:

Actor Josh Hartnett and his Norwegian girlfriend Sophia Lie’s relationship is heating up while the couple enjoy each other’s company on a vacation in Italy.

On Saturday Josh and Sophia spent the evening dining out and getting very close at the dinner table after loading up their plates at the buffet.

Earlier in the day, the 31-year-old kicked back while Sophia swam in the ocean, sporting a bright pink bikini. The doting 40 Days and 40 Nights star made sure to keep the model warm with a towel when Sophia was done with her swim.

[From OK! Magazine]

The photo captions, and OK!’s description, don’t include exactly where in Italy Josh and this Sophia chick were. Josh and Sophia have been dating since at least last year, when they were photographed out together in NY in the spring and fall. It doesn’t look like they were exclusive from the start as he’s since been linked with other women, like Mary-Kate Olsen and Abbie Cornish. He’s like a budget Leonardo DiCaprio in that he has on-off relationships with women all the time. Unlike Leo his career isn’t red hot right now. He had only one movie out in 2009 and none yet this year, although he does have three films in post production and two in the works.

This is superficial of me, but as gorgeous as Josh’s girlfriend is she would definitely benefit from a little mascara and shadow. I have very pale skin and light eyelashes too and I only leave the house without makeup in an emergency. (I don’t overdo it though – at least I don’t think I do!) It takes a lot to pull off the no-makeup look, especially when you’re pale-skinned. It looks like Ms. Lie may not wear makeup at all when she’s not working as I found event photos (below) of her looking washed-out too. She does look lovely and fresh-faced, but a little makeup is called for when you’re going out.

In some pictures, she looks like a blonde Julianne Moore.

I would love to be so flawless as to get away with wearing no make-up! she looks stunning. A good friend of mine is a working model & has similar pale colouring. She never wears make-up when she’s off duty, hates the constant patting/painting/preening/pulling when she’s ON duty. Probably the same reasoning. Good luck to them, they look very happy.

Given the nature of this site, you’re not being shallow at all by thinking she’d look better with mascara. That said, I think she looks great. I don’t know her or anything, but I can imagine that she’s got people messing around with her skin all the time, and if I were in that position, I’d go without makeup when I was off the job, too.

I tend to think makeup shouldn’t ever be considered mandatory and that you should only wear it if you like putting it on. Also, I bet that you don’t look nearly as bad as you think you do without it.

Yea she is pretty but average pretty. Its gonna take more than an average looking chick to boost his career. I have a lot more respect for Josh then to think he would think boning a model with average pretty features would boost his career. He should know doing another celebrity or reality TV, which I think he can still avoid that last one, will boost his career.

I have heard so many dirty stories about Josh Hartnett that I can’t help but feel gross looking at him.

Ugh, I hope she has all her shots or she might catch something.

She looks pretty I think. It’s only unusual because we’re so used to looking at celebs that apply their makeup with a shovel!

As far as makeup goes, she can go without and look fine. As far as looking pretty, not so much(especially the head shot). I just don’t see the beauty in her.

Josh looks like a creepy older man dating younger chick ala George Clooney…ewwwwww.

I don’t wear make up, really almost never. Girls night I may throw on some lip gloss and eye liner, if that. I think women look beautiful without make up as well as with. She looks fine just like that.

She is definitely wearing makeup in that last picture, just going for a really natural look, and I totally respect that. And she looks better without makeup than I do on any given day with makeup, so I think she’s fine.

I’m pale too and rarely leave the house without mascara. That said, if she wasn’t expecting to be photographed, she’s fine.

Why does anyone care enough about him to take his picture? I had to laugh at the article referencing 40 Days and Nights. What year did that come out? So sad.

I have pale skin and red hair, but my eyebrows and lashes are dark (not weirdly dark, just dark enough not to need mascara). I don’t wear makeup all the time. I don’t have skin problems either though, so it just seems silly to cake on makeup to hide absolutely nothing. I do wear it when I go out, or if I feel like I have enough time in the morning. But I have more important things to do than waste my morning putting on makeup as I’m trying to rush out the door. Plus, I don’t have anyone to impress :P My boyfriend is 45 minutes away.

I don’t think anyone should feel that they “need” to be wearing make-up, so yes…you do sound rather superficial; she is a beautiful woman.

  17. MissyA says:

I think she looks beautiful, and it’s refreshing to see someone “in the business” who’s confident enough to leave the house without make-up.

Interesting observation about the mascara, though.
I rarely leave the house with makeup on – the exception, of course, being when I’m heading to work. As a current service-industry “stooge”, I depend on tips to pay my bills and feed my family. A little mascara, some eyeliner, and slightly fitted t-shirt/tank top makes the difference between sucky/ok tips, and good/great tips.

I’ve tried experimenting before. Same shift, similar business volume, different ensemble. Definitely make more money when I take the effort to look “cuter”, regardless of the gender of the customer.

Just wanted to throw that observation in on the whole “superficial” debate.

@ Truth-Calm down…C/B was just asking a question re: make-up and I certainly don’t think she was tearing anyone down. “As
gorgeous as Josh’s girlfriend is she would definitely benefit from a little mascara and shadow” is pretty harmless imo.
If you love D-Listed so much then why don’t you stick to posting there? Talk about hypocrisy..or at the very least contradiction.

PC, I was thinking the same thing. THAT’S how they reference him?

I guess it’s the same thing as referring to Lohan as “Mean Girls actress, Lindsay Lohan”…

whenever I read that I laugh.

@Truth: “That’s why this blog will never be as big as D Listed, etc… hypocrisy.censorship and
vacillating between being ‘fair’ and then being catty and tearing someone down for no reason.”

Truth, this is just so unfair of you to throw that out there like you KNOW what the hell you are talking about.

This is a GREAT blog, one I read many times a day…..in fact the SAME AMOUNT of times that I go to DListed.

Everyone who writes for Celebitchy tries really hard to be fair, to be accurate, to be amusing and often hilarious, to do MORE than just throw a story out there. These stories are written by people who really care and want to give us, the readers, stories that are a cut above what you would find on other gossip sites.

You may not agree with all the policies, but they are there for a reason. To insure harmony and peaceful commenting without things turning into a verbal brawl. Do you read the comments on other sites like TMZ or Perez? It’s horrifying what is said.
Nobody in their right mind wants to have to wade through that slop to leave a thoughtful comment.

The regulars over here are witty, funny, caring, provocative and interesting. That is what is good about coming here! Great caring writers and great caring posters!

I am one of those people also who dont believe makeup should be mandatory. While it is helpful, extremely helpful in some cases, why should a woman ever have to say that another must have makeup on before leaving the house. That is a personal choice and opinion.
I used to feel the same way about myself not leaving the house until i said “you know what. im attractive, heck maybe even beautiful without” while makeup certainly enhances it and i think i look great with thicker eyebrows and some eyeliner i dont think its right that another woman tell a woman who chooses to be without makeup (not just wear bad makeup) that she needs to put makeup on. Lets go natural beauty! isnt the point that we just be happy with ourselves?

I think she looks good, better then too much makeup. Maybe it was a beach vacation & they went from the beach to dinner so she just threw on mascara & a little lipstick, etc. Looks good to me.

  26. Wresa says:

“Need” is a strong word to use in the headline. I went to work today without ANY makeup on and I could tell that men were looking at me differently. And it made me feel good, like my attractiveness was something can I can play up or dress down according to my wishes.

To be honest, it was a side-effect of 90 degree heat and a broken A/C in my car. I’m sure Italy is hot this time of year. Maybe she just wanted to be comfortable for one night of her life. Life is not a Maybelline commercial!

Come on, “gorgeous?” REALLY? Sorry, but she’s no great beauty IMHO.

Those small beady eyes, and her face already looks injected, though i’m sure it’s not –

She’s definitely no Bar Rafaeli, not even a close runner up.

    Yawn.

Kylie, as a makeup artist, i can tell you that she most def does have makeup on in that last pic…tons of it, as in natural, but forced. The eyes are very small and need accentuating to enlarge. Not à la Jerseylicious, but something more runway. In the pic with Josh, she’s cute, yeah, clearly a side effect of Josh proximity…

    yummy

How old is she? She looks like 30 or something. Is she a really model? She doesn’t look like a model!!! She really is mediocre. I don’t find her attractive. Boring looks, just another unattractive blonde girl. It’s a good thing that her bf is Josh. But unfortunately, she’s a still unknown model. Pathetic LOL
