Is the royal family trying to piss off Kate Middleton?

Over the past few months, rumors regarding an alleged engagement between Prince William and Kate Middleton have been pushed into hyperdrive. Even the American tabloid press has gotten into it, reporting about their wedding-to-be, and suggesting at various times infidelity (on both their parts), and that Kate is being driven mad by Will‘s unwillingness to commit, like she’s some nouveau-riche Ophelia. Oh, and one report had Kate pregnant with Will’s love child – that was a good one. What’s particularly interesting to me is that Buckingham Palace (the Queen) and Saint James Palace (Prince Charles) has chosen to comment on these reports several times. I keep hoping that the statement will be “pish-posh” or “poppycock” or an obscure “crumpets” reference, but alas, they keep the Britishisms to a minimum. Anyway, the Palace stepped out again to deny, deny, deny… only this time they’re denying a report that I wasn’t even aware of:

Sorry, royal wedding watchers: Prince William and love Kate Middleton aren’t announcing their engagement — or a supposed 2011 wedding — anytime soon.

A St. James Palace rep is slamming a new report in a German tabloid claiming that William and Middleton, both 28, will announce their engagement this fall and marry next summer; the wedding date, claims the report, will likely be July 2, the same day the Prince’s parents Diana and Charles wed in 1981.

“What absolute nonsense!” the rep tells UsMagazine.com. “This is nothing more than speculation.”

A source adds of the longtime couple: “Right now there [are] absolutely no wedding plans taking place. That is the truth.”

[From Us Weekly]

At some point, these denials are just being handed out to insult Kate Middleton. That’s what it feels like to me – I mean, is it really “absolute nonsense” that Kate and William would get engaged after being together (on and off) for eight years? And if the engagement speculation comes – at least partially – from Middleton’s camp and her supporters, isn’t the royal family basically telling Kate to sit down and shut up? That’s what it feels like.

I expect a break up soon.

  2. tssssss says:

its so pathetic and humiliating for her. she should leave him until she turns 30 and noone will ever take her. show some pride girl. so he is a prince. so what? doesnt mean she has to take everything from him and the royals.

  3. JulieM says:

Apparently, some German prince, who is a very distant relative of the Hanover/Windsors, put this out last week. He would have no way of knowing this and was just trying to get some publicity. Lot’s of inaccuracies, like Charles and Diana were married on July 2; no, it was July 29. Even if these two ever marry, I doubt that Buck House would allow it to happen in July at all. Way too much symbolism of the Wales marriage gone sour. This prince also stated that there were no more public objections to their marriage. Wow, just read the British press if you think that’s true. I agree with tsssetc., why does she take this humiliation? Because I agree, Kaiser, the Palace is trying to insult her. Also agree, this may just be another Middleton PR move.

  4. canadianchick says:

    @Tsss ITA.

  5. Louise says:

It wasn’t July 2, it was definitely July 29. I know this because I was busy being born that day.

  6. Gwen says:

I hope they break up soon. They’re so boring together; he’s too young to get married and it’s crazy that she’s doing nothing but wait for him.

  7. guesty says:

    @tsss…definitely.

  8. Tuatara says:

Lord, she is one dull woman.

  9. sunshine says:

William is the future king – a lot of consideration has to go in to the timing of official decisions and announcements and such. He is not just a private individual he is a part of the monarchy –

  10. Fae says:

Gwen – ‘he’s too young to get married’

    He’s 28!

I don’t know, we’ve not really heard much about this over here (as far as I can tell, anyway). Always makes me smile how much you Americans seem to be into our Royal family. Awww.

  11. Stronzilla says:

@Louise, you have just made me feel very old.
Diana’s birthday was July 1st, I was born 10 days before her. When I watched her get married I was still in school and all I could think was how young she was. She gave birth to Prince William on my birthday and every time I look at Ms. Middleton all I see is Camilla Parker-Bowles vers 2.0. I really hope he doesn’t marry her. I think his mother would have wished for him someone stronger with a little more intestinal fortitude. Kate wants it so bad you can see it in her eyes and nothing short of a nuclear blast is going to make her give it up.

  12. chris says:

I dated my huband for years. Neither one of us was in a hurry to get married. In fact, we only did it so I could have my married name on my law school diploma (which, incidently, is pretty worthless and I don’t recommend it to any of you youngsters here). My point is, maybe they just don’t feel the need. Not every couple does.

  13. S says:

    @chris

    a) he’s a royal, different rules apply, he will have to get married in order to have kids, which is also a “must” seeing as he will be king

    b) OF COURSE she is dying to get married! This girl is doing absolutely nothing else with her life but sit around and wait for him to marry her. Literally nothing. That’s what bugs me so much about her, she has no individual ambitions for herself (aside from being Queen)…it all hinges on him, which is sad. I liked Chelsy Davy so much more because she’s a lawyer now and is practising law, and Harry got in the way of that, so she moved on.

  14. asiont says:

I hope he will break up with her, they don’t look happy and she is sooo lazy and boring, she does nothing except being his girlfriend, that’s just pathetic.

he can find someone so much better than kate, maybe even someone who can work and has a life

  15. Gwen says:

@Fae: I know he’s 28 but his life can’t be compared with ordinary people. He still has a lot to learn and a lot of preparing to do. I can’t see him doing that when married.

I’m not an American btw – I have my own royals frakking it up because they had to get married and it ain’t a pretty sight. I think it’s a shame if William doesn’t get to do things because he wants to do them, but because people wants him to do them. That includes marrying someone who seems to be doing nothing but waiting for him to marry her.

  16. hellen says:

Kate looks like a well-preserved 40. Waiting around must be really hard on the complexion.

  17. Leticia says:

I want her to run off with an oil sheik and embarrass the Windsors.

  18. tekla says:

I feel sorry for her, being humiliated in public like that..

  19. oxa says:

I think payback would be for Kate to get his ass drunk in Vegas, marry him in a sleazy wedding chapel with an Elvis impersonator officiating.

  20. Iggles says:

    @ Stronzilla:
..every time I look at Ms.

I agree. I really want him to dump her already. It’s pathetic that she has done nothing with her life but wait on him because she wants to be the future Queen.

Wills is no prize (heard are his cheating on her), but he needs to man up and end this already. I don’t think he wants to marry her or else he would have. He’s with her more out of obligation than love. I hope he find a strong woman to marry that makes him want to become a better man.

  21. Statler says:

Where do so many people get the idea that their lives form any basis of comparison with those of the Royal family? The Royals are nothing like ordinary people, they are owned by their family in a way that mainstream society gave up hundreds of years ago.

  22. Nudgie says:

If Kate really wants to get married, I suggest she use the time-honored tradition employed by American celebrities:

    Sex Tape.

  23. mln says:

If they want to get married they should be able to. I hope that the family isn’t trying to get rid of her because that’s what caused all the trouble for Diana in the first place. She was the prop while Charles lusted after someone else. They seem genuinely in love and 28 isn’t too young.

  24. TG says:

@hellen – I agree at least pushing 40. And @Leticia – I am still laughing my head off at your suggstion – too funny and would be great!!

@Nudgie – I thought the time-honored tradition was getting knocked. LOL

  25. excuse me says:

Does anyone here seriously think that all William has to do is express his desire to marry Kate and it will happen? Nothing is done without the Queen’s consent- Charles & Diana were not allowed to separate or divorce without her consent and the Queen decided what the terms would be! Anyway, why does everyone assume that Kate and Will want to be married? Just because they have been together for years doesn’t mean either of them want marriage. I’m sure they live like man and wife already, in the biblical sense.

  26. JulieM says:

excuse me: see S @13, point a and b. William has to marry in order to have a “legitimate” heir. He may not want to, but he has to. Eventually, anyway. Seems bizarre in the 21st century to be saying this, but there you have it. And considering that the Waity One has put her entire life on hold to cater to him, I find believing that she does not want to get married is, well, unbelievable.

  27. Megan says:

I feel sorry for her, even if she was never in a great rush to get married, all the constant speculation from the press and still no engagement must be gritting her poo by now… unless they are secretly engaged or have a secret understanding between the two of them. She really is just a ‘lady in waiting’ for him to marry her, she really has made very little career for herself other than being Kate Middleton. I really hope they either get married or break up.

  28. aenflex says:

I dont understand why anyone feels sorry for her. She is an adult and makes her own choices. I tend to agree that she has her eyes on the prize. And so what if she does? Again, her choice. If she decides to wait for 8 + years and he never marries her, lesson learned. But if he does propose, all worthwhile afterall.

  29. Monique says:

He’s a coward and she doesn’t want to understand cos her claws are on the trophy called a tiara with a title. I dare say both Middleton girls were raised in this sense of bagging good titled and affluent catch, but somehow it doesn’t work smoothly as Carole planned. Kate waits and waits for proposal and Pipa is also getting older and she had 6 men under belt during 2 years and nothing serious. She’s getting close to age when girls think about settling down but she hasn’t serious long time BF. Even no one with their posh demands from Middleton shopping list, so I’d say Pippa lowered her bar from titled and rich to rich, like it looks like their moved to land good catch in finances. Jimbo left his package powder cake kit business for some scary financial company and Pipa landed financ. trader. I think they’re desperade behind curtain, but Kate will have never leave her victim and Prince William doesn’t care how she’s inside. Look how he hugged Camilla who just bedded his father, his beloved mother’s worst enemy. The boy isn’t normal as well, both Diana and Charles had tantrums, Prince Philip’s mother was at psych. sanatorium. We don’t know what’s inside of their family as well.

  30. celia says:

You can tell Kate’s a loser, by how she has hung on all these years NOT doing anything else. She’s so pathetic.

It may be time for Kate to move on and stop clinging to the Prince, She may just have to admit DEFEAT and move on.
Kate will never, ever beat the Palace wishes, if they don’t want her bloodline for William’s future heirs, she will never get him. She may have to marry someone else, stay close like Camilla did, wait for William to marry and produce children by someone else, THEN try and get him back.Hahahahaha

She’s so desperate. She would even take the mistress spot if he offered it! Which I doubt he would. Ha!!!

  31. Tia C says:

It is true that Prince William has to marry to produce a legitimate heir, but being a man, he’s got plenty of time for that. (See Prince Albert of Monaco, who, at the age of 52, just got engaged for the first time).

Kate looks like she’s a little too “well-seasoned” to be a princess anyway. I can kinda see why he’s not in any hurry to buy the cow.

  32. P.J. says:

The report about the July 2 wedding was in the Daily Mail:

“A cousin of Prince Charles has claimed Prince William is already engaged to Kate Middleton and the pair have invited him to their wedding. Prince Julius Eduard von Anhalt, the Duke of Saxony, told a magazine that the pair will formally announce their engagement this autumn and marry next July. He did not provide proof of the invitation and refused to give the exact date of the ceremony, saying it was confidential.”

Perhaps the palace went out of its way to deny the story because it was attributed to Charles’s cousin? At any rate I thought it was iffy from the start and was surprised the palace bothered to deny it.

  33. KsGirl says:

No one has mentioned this so far but at this point the Royal Family has GOT to be thinking (and imo have been thinking for some time) about the PR impact of Wills *not* marrying Kate (at this point). Willam/The Fam have already taken heat in the UK press (non tabloid press included) for stringing Kate along – if he dumps her at this stage it is going to reflect very badly on the Royal Fam as well as on Kate herself. Buckingham Palace doesn’t f*** around when it comes to their image and I find it highly unlikely that this relationship would be allowed to continue if there were not wedding plans at some point in the future.

Also, can you imagine the press frenzy if he dumped Kate and married some 19 yr old? That is WAY too close to history repeating itself!

  34. l. franco says:

William is not even mature enough yet to know what he wants in a relationship. This is a bad relationship which should have ended two years ago.

It is better to have a few months of bad press than a lifetime of a marriage that ends in DIVORCE, pure disaster, which it will, if he marrys Kate.

He is dragging his feet because it does not feel right. I wish he would just end soon.
Kate is too weak, common, tacky and lazy to be Queen of England, it won’t ever work.

This is a relationship of a guy who is too weak to tell her to p1sssss off. She knows this too, which is why she hangs on and hopes, but the Palace is not letting her through. She’s going to be 30 and out in the cold, DUMPED!!! She’s not smart, she’s been a silly woman, she’s no better than any of the Footballer’s girlfriends. She’s just silly.

  35. JulieM says:

Ks girl: You have a point about bad press if he dumps her now, after stringing her along for 8 years. But, as l. franco said, bad PR for a few months would still be preferable to a bad marriage. Kate certainly is too lazy to be Queen Consort, but no one would have begrudged her being a commoner (most of us are, after all) if she had gone out after university graduation and obtained a real job and done something, anything, on her own. She owns all the hostility directed towards her.

  36. sanddcastles says:

just a thought…has any one thought that the reason Kate waits and hangs around is because WILL is the one that wants it that way? Maybe he is the one that likes her always being ready to accompany him.

  37. JulieM says:

Yes, sanddcastles, this relationship is entirely on William’s terms. Has been from the start. And what does that say about him? Selfish, self absorbed, user. And what does putting up with and hanging around endlessly for her own humiliation say about Kate? Neither of them are very appealing, are they?

  38. tickle says:

For all those who say Kate doesn’t do anything, ie, work, it’s bc Buck house has put the kibosh on her doing any meaningful work.

She has been asked/told to keep out of trouble/work so that the British tabs can’t find fault with something she’s doing ~ Or set up a sting like they did with Sophie of Wessex

  39. Mare says:

@S – Chelsy Davy is not working as a lawyer. She finished law school and took a year of to travel and she’s still not working.

  40. JulieM says:

Tickle @38: I promised myself I would not make any more comments on this thread but I can’t resist. Buck House telling Kate she can’t do anything is pure Middleton Public Relations BS. Waity Katie can do whatever she wants. She is not yet a member of the royal family. If she wasn’t such a sycophantic, I’ll do anything to bag Willie boy cling on, she would have earned a lot more respect than she has today. Pathetic pair, the both of them.

  41. slymm27 says:

the way you all presume things just amazes me….. how do you all know this???

  42. Tina says:

It will be a sad day if William caves in and marries Kate just because she wants him to.

William knows that Kate wants to get married. He himself knows that she’s not the right one for him. And one day he’ll do what is right not only for himself but for the people of his country as well, he’ll end it for good with Kate Middleton. She’ll be history.

God forbid her, her family ( including uncle Gary Goldsmith ) become a part of the British Royal Family.

The Monarchy will go from being the most well respected Monarchy in the world to becoming ” La British Monarchy de Bang Bang ” ( see Gary Goldsmith ). Everyone will lose respect for the British Monarchy. Everyone.

    Enter the republic movement.
All because of Kate Middleton & co.

It’s in William’s and his families best interest to listen to the people. Kate Middleton must go.

If not, the Monarchy will be the one to go.
    Sad but true.

  43. Mike says:

Why does her skin look so leathery? It’s a little creepy actually…
I gotta say, I too believe that Kate Middleton will cause havoc on the royal family. She has an air about her that seems arrogant and narcissistic to say the least and I suspect that once she gets her hands on that ring…all hell will break loose. If people think they’ve seen the worst of Kate, I have a feeling they ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

  44. p.g. says:

Unlike lazy Kate, Chelsy did something with her time, she went to law school and furthered her education while dating Harry, She did not sit and wait like pathetic Kate.

Kate is clingy and she comes off as desperate.
