Michelle Williams and director Spike Jonze make out at a restaurant

When I first heard the story that Michelle Williams, 27, was dating director Spike Jonze, 38, I was pretty skeptical. The rumor seemed to originate in Star Magazine and was based on the two sharing a goodbye kiss that lasted too long outside Jonze’s apartment. Michelle and Spike worked together on the film Synecdoche, New York, and there wasn’t much evidence that they were a couple. The late Heath Ledger’s best friend from Australia, Trevor DiCarlo, was staying at Michelle’s place for a while and I guessed that he was her new love interest, not Jonze.

Jonze and Williams were spotted together at the airport last week boarding a private plane to Oregon with her daughter, Matilda, 33 months. They were also seen kissing at dinner in LA on August 2. It looks pretty obvious at this point that they’re a couple.

Michelle Williams and director Spike Jonze, who were recently spotted getting cozy together in Brooklyn, have taken their relationship bicoastal.

The twosome shared an intimate dinner at Little Dom’s in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood on Aug. 2. According to a fellow diner, Williams, 27, and Jonze, 38, started off their late-night meal sitting across from each other. “During dinner they would lean in and kiss each other over the table,” the diner says.

By the end of the meal, Williams had hopped into Jonze’s lap and the pair were smooching, according to onlooker.

Jonze, the ex-husband of Sofia Coppola, produced the actress’ upcoming film Synecdoche, New York. At the Brooklyn deli, the director “had his arm around [Williams] and kissed her on the cheeks, then on the lips,” PEOPLE reported recently.

Jonze was married to director Sofia Coppola from 1999 – 2003 and was briefly linked to actress Drew Barrymore last year.

Michelle doesn’t seem like the PDA type to me at all and I’m really surprised that she would sit on a guy’s lap at a restaurant and start kissing him like that. She must really be crazy for him, and it sounds like the feeling is mutual. Jonze must be the affectionate type and these two sound like they’re head over heels for each other.

So would their celebrity name be “Mike” or “Spichelle”?

i loved her with heath. i miss them, the couple. 🙁

  3. Kaiser says:

Well, good for her for getting out there. But I doubt it will last.

And at what point do you moms stop saying your kids’ ages in months? The “33-month-old” thing really struck me. But, hey, I’m Kaiser, and I’m 346 months old. 🙂

  4. Celebitchy says:

Kaiser I wanted to say “nearly three,” but thought I would say 33 months instead to make it more specific. Yes it’s a mom thing.

I sort of agree with you, Kaiser….it is not unusual at all to think that
a post-death relationship can burn brightly for a time and then snuff out.

    But…on the other side…

My husband died and I very soon after became good friends with and then more than friends with someone and we will celebrate our 6th anniversary in September.

    It can work out….maybe it’s like 50/50.

I think part of what happens is that your feelings are so raw and so close to surface…all kinds of emotions are right at your fingertips. So all the lovey-dovey, sexy stuff is right there.
    It’s very intense.

  6. Kaiser says:

Yeah, Gracie, I think that’s perfectly understandable. But I don’t think it will last mainly because of Spike Jonze’s reported too-cool-for-school doucheyness.

And I’m sorry about your 1st husband. 🙁

  7. kate says:

she looks radiant, as usual. i hope she can find some happiness with someone. but i miss her with heath, too.

  8. JoGirl says:

I think they’re cute together, and might make a good couple. Good for you, Michelle!

  9. Wif says:

Don’t forget though, that she and Heath were finished before he died. Everybody seems to think of her as his widow, but, for whatever reason, they had called it quits. I don’t see her dating Spike Jonze as being any different from anyone else dating after a break-up.

  10. gracie says:

Thanks for the kind words, Kaiser.

I remember seeing her and Ledger at an awards show…might have been the oscars for the year of ‘Brokeback Mountain’. She said that they had a sweet life together and hope nothing changed that. She looked beautiful in the yellow dress but I thought at the time what an unusual thing to say.

They were lovely together and unfortuantely it ended Then his far too young life was extinguished.

I hope she finds true happiness as that will be what will help her raise their lovely little girl…who looks just like her father.

While I can certainly believe she is in a relationship with Jonze, I have a lot of trouble believing that business of her sitting on his lap in a restaurant, making out with him.
Ms. Williams has always struck me as a private person who behaves with a great deal of dignity in public–this just doesn’t sound like her.
But if she is happy, then that’s great. She has had a lot of sadness for the past year, and deserves to have her spirit lightened.

  13. spotshot says:

aw. i hope she finds happiness but i’ll always have a soft spot for her and heath

  14. Morgan says:

I love Heath Ledger and i think Michelle should wait a little longer to get together w/someone and i think it would be better for Matilda to still remember her father!!!!!
