Love ya JayBird, but she looks the same to me. πŸ™„

  2. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

    Dear God.

Ok even though it’s obvious someone threw her in the bath for the second night of performances, somehow they missed her knees. AND even the cleaned up performance is light years away from how she once looked.

I can’t even comment on the first night’s appearance. No wait, I can–she’s quite literally filthy from head to toe. Look at her freaking HANDS. How do they get that dirty?

She’s also definitely on drugs both nights, because she’s never not on drugs.

    For a look at Amy pre-tattoos, pre-crazy makeup, pre-beehive, pre-Blake, pre-drugs, pre-extreme skinniness, check it:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADN29DLJUbY

(She’s even able to play the GUITAR and sing there, good Lord. I didn’t even know she could.)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl4Ufsx2eVs

Amazing, huh? Absolutely amazing. Go ahead and watch those two and tell me she didn’t have absolutely amazing talent (she wrote the song in the first video, the second is her cover of a Dinah Washington classic).

  3. Keese my cakes says:

she looks like she has a rotting bottom tooth, maybe from the crack pipe?

  4. Holly says:

Ummm she looks just as much like a rotting corpse in both sets of pictures. Just less wide eyed, is all.

  5. Syko says:

I can’t tell which pictures she’s supposed to look good in.

  6. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

I didn’t cuss in my comments-I’m wondering why they’re still awaiting moderation?

Here’s another great video with rare early pics of Amy (early in her career) to show just how gorgeous she once was:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIjhrbCLWmc&NR=1

  7. Blonde Ambition says:

She does look a little better in the later ones….I just wish someone would take her, feed her, and really fix her up…she has potential to be a very pretty woman underneath all that heroin-chic..that 90’s era is long gone!!

  8. Carrie says:

Thanks for that link, anastasiabea. Did anyone else find the pictures really poignant? She used to be a normal, attractive girl. Damn those drugs and that no-good husband…..

  9. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

I had originally posted a couple of videos from her early years with her singing and even playing guitar in one. They’re amazing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9waSo0X16nY

She was absolutely amazing. I hate putting that in past tense, but wow.

  10. geronimo says:

Ok, stunning may be a slight(!) exaggeration but, relative to the 1st row of pics, that’s a major 24-hr transformation. Old Amy’s still in there. Sad sad sad. Feel such a pang when I see her performing now. πŸ™

  11. Syko says:

Wow, I just clicked on that link and could hardly believe it. I knew she was getting worse by the day, but you don’t realize what a change it’s been. She had a little meat on her bones and was much more attractive. Poor thing.

  12. JayBird says:

Yeah I wanted to say “stunning – for Amy” but I couldn’t fit it into the headline. I’m open to a better word of similar length of you all have any suggestions πŸ˜€

  13. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Ok I know what I’m doing wrong–when I try to put in more than one link, it holds my comment. So here, this is just one of her performing way before tats or the beehive or the makeup or the horrible jailbird husband or the drugs, etc. She wrote this song:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9waSo0X16nY

  14. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

JayBird: how about “death” and “looking a little less like death?”

    Wait, that’s even longer, LOL!

  15. geronimo says:

Aw no! Leave it like it originally was, JB. I loved it, nice and ironic! Long time since we’ve seen ‘Amy’ and ‘stunning’ in the same sentence. It made me all nostalgic…

  16. javagirl1 says:

Wow…Anastasia’s link of the old pics is shocking. I only knew who she was after she became a mess. I had no idea she used to look like that.

  17. xiaoecho says:

We’ve all lowered the bar so low for Amy that she can stick a couple of roses in her hair and we’ll describe her as ‘glam’ and ‘stunning’

We’re all drugged on her phenomenal talent

When you look at her pre Blake, it puts it all in perspective 😐

  18. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Ok now for the best one of all. This is my absolute favorite video of Amy. It was only done 18 months ago, so it was after the beehive, makeup, tats, Blake, drugs, all that. But it’s a live recording session and the lighting and angle are really cool. She’s doing a very simple version (not from the album) of Love is a Losing Game and she actually starts to cry a bit into the song, but it doesn’t change her voice. You can just tell because her face sort of collapses and she chokes a tiny bit. You can’t see her very well in this video–it’s dark and from the side. But that’s ok, because when you hear her voice and the raw emotion and beauty, you’ll know without a doubt what a huge talent she is. And yeah, she wrote this song, too:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L9-AvjsB6g&feature=related

  19. Nan says:

I know how it is done. There’s a simple trick to plumping out your face. Steam it well, add water based moisturizer & then hit the eyes, brows & upper cheekbones w/ice for a good hour. CB, your preparation-H thing works well, but you need to follow w/washing it off, then applying ice & a Chantecaille eye creme.

  20. geronimo says:

This is still one of my all time favs, Amy and Paul Weller – Don’t go to strangers.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuJscWYA-eI

  21. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Oh that’s a great one Geronimo! Later with Jools Holland is such a great show–there’s really nothing like it in the US, not even anything close to it.

That performance was two years ago and from what I can tell, her free fall downward has been about since then. That was the last time you saw her halfway together enough to perform well, except for the Grammys last year. She was already doing the weird shimmy/grabbing her dress and crotch area thing she’s been doing since being harder into the drug addiction.

But she still did an amazing job, didn’t she?

  22. paris herpes says:

Looks like someone forced her into the shower after looking like death for the 1st gig. Ew, her skin is flaking off, I hope whatever she has is not contagious?! She might have skin cancer!

  23. KattyBitch says:

My brother was playing her first CD in his car the other day and I never would have guessed it was her. Classic and beautiful. Too bad all I can see is the crazy mess when I hear her stuff now =)

How come in the second set of pictures it looks like shes about to yank her dress up to flash everyone.

  24. geronimo says:

Seriously, goosebumps every time I watch it. Her voice is sublime here. And you’re right, anastasia, she was just starting to go off the rails. It’s just makes it all the more heartbreaking when you see the kind of talent this girl had.

  25. czarina says:

She looks like my daughter when she was 5 and she’d wear a dress and be completely uncomfortable, so she’d just kind of play with the dress–swish it or pull it up.
Amy looks like someone shoved her in a tub, washed the wig, and stuffed her into a really ugly dress that doesn’t suit her at all (or fit properly).
Although I love her comment; “You are a really nuts crowd.”
Yes, Amy. It’s the CROWD that’s nuts. Got it.
(definately sad to watch or hear her amazing talent before she became so self-destructive.)

  26. Snowblood says:

@ Xiaoecho – “We’re all drugged on her phenomenal talent'” Yep. Yes, we are…

Nan, that’s a fantastic beauty tip. Thanks, bella!

Anastasia, thanks so much for all the cool Winehouse links.

Great article, JayBird, too because for all of us Amy Winehouse fans it’s a refreshing, nice and relieving change once in a blue moon to get treated to PRETTY pictures of and GOOD news about Amy’s appearance and performance, for a damn change.

You’re right about that crazy Daily Mail article, too, JayBird, it’s so confusing it makes the READer feel like she’s on dope just tryna make sense of the garbled continuity of the writing.

  27. Cinderella says:

Please tell me that’s not a tampon string in picture 11.

  28. Nan says:

Cinds, OMG, please let that be a frayed piece of thread from the above pattern on the dress, PLEASE!

  29. Nan says:

Amy needs her knees exfoliated. An ashy ‘white girl’. Her ‘people’ suck at getting her together. What a talented mess she is.

  30. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Ok I found a video of that performance–the second night when she was relatively cleaned up for HER lately:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1H7dOgoaU8

My God, it’s awful. The audience is singing it better than she is. It’s especially fun in the last few moments when she just bends over and starts gurgling out “RAH RAH REE UGLE BLOO!” Then runs off the stage before the song is over and the performers do another full MINUTE of it.

Man. Amy. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, girl.

  31. Jess Doherty says:

Amy Winehouse seriously grosses me out and yet, I love Pete Doherty!!

  32. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Looks like a red string that seems to be too close to the hem of the dress to be coming from “that” area. Also, if it were totally red like that, she has another issue, too. Called “needed to be changed hours ago.”

  33. xiaoecho says:

    EWWW EVERYBODY! STOP

Isn’t she mess enough without having to tackle her nether regions as well

    EEEWWWW just eww

  34. sam says:

OMG! she left the crowd waiting for a whole 15 minutes!!! wow, thats terrible (extreme sarcasm)

  35. Jenna says:

I miss the old Amy. I use to listen to her when she had meat on her bones and wasn’t sucking the mess out of a pipe. She is still talented now but its just tragic how she looks and acts now.

She kinda looks like a court jester… Kind of. What with the pale face, red lips, and the red flowers in her hair. Picture six made me feel like that.

She needs to come out with another CD. Back to Black part two. I like it.

  36. Snowblood says:

Oh, Anastasia, I just watched & listened to the first Youtube video you gave us, in which she sings Stronger Than Me, and it brought tears to my eyes, and goosebumps to my forearms. God, she’s just amazing. That beautiful wide smile she gives her audience after she finishes her song is incredibly disarming, too. Oh, please kick the dope, Amy!!! πŸ˜₯

  37. Snowblood says:

Watched the second video, Teach Me Tonight – utterly brilliant. What an original, what uncommon natural musical genius she possesses. There’s no one, no singer like Amy Winehouse. No one.

  38. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Snowblood: it’s enough to give you chills, isn’t it?

I was on another gossip site and it made me really sad to see all these comments from people asking things like “why is this crackhead even famous?” and “damn, she’s a BAD singer.” They apparently had never seen or heard of her before the last couple of years and so they have no clue what a beautiful person she was (is-underneath the drug addiction and layers of filth) and what a huge talent she has. She wrote every song on Back in Black, she’s a great lyricist, her voice is amazing, her energy (was) amazing. It’s so sad to think so many people only think of her as a crackhead so far gone that she’s a step above crapping in the streets and flinging it at people.

Unfortunately, that’s one of the few behaviors she hasn’t yet engaged in in her drug-induced haze.

I just keep hoping a few years from now we’ll see a gorgeous cleaned up Amy Winehouse making a comeback and not discussing how sad her funeral was. She’s only in her early 20s. No one this young should look so much like death. She should be radiant, at her peak.

  39. xiaoecho says:

just our (the fans) luck and she’ll call her new album ‘Back to Blake’

  40. Nan says:

Who cares? I probably do. Just busy on & off here. Please, when I come back around midnight, I hope to see some great posts from Snowblood, Bros & Daisy. Syko, too. Just worrying about Anni, though.

  41. Orangejulius says:

Thanks Snowblood for everything you’ve said about her. I feel exactly the same way about her voice. I haven’t heard anybody I’ve been this excited about listening to for a very long time. I’m praying to Santa Claus up at the North Pole and the Easter Bunny wherever he hangs out that she gets her shit together and gets better.

  42. AE says:

anastasia: Even though so incredibly depressing, thank you for the links. She was a very talented artist who hopefully can find her way back. I can’t even begin to imagine the inner strength needed to battle back against her addictions.

  43. Jenna says:

Favorite songs by her would be “Back to Black”, “(Will you still love me) Tomorrow”… there are waaaaay too many.

She has a serious talent and I hope she gets better.

  44. javagirl1 says:

AE – very intelligent comment,. Addiction is a very serious thing and should never be taken lightly. It needs to be acknowledged, like something like diabetes or cancer.

  45. Nan says:

Let’s all wish good thoughts for Amy. Come on.

  46. rottenkitty says:

I can only imagine the smell…

  47. Snowblood says:

I can only imagine YOUR smell, what with a name like rotten kitty and all. *shudders* 😳

  48. Nan says:

    Yeah, snowbitch is back!

  49. Nan says:

    Bitch is back!

  50. Snowblood says:

You betcha, baby! You KNOW I can’t have people talking shit about my Amy. I’ve gotta defend the ones I love, and smack around the haters, you know how it is… πŸ˜›

  51. rottenkitty says:

    Snowblood,

Yes, I’m certain a scruffy, crack addict who appears not to have bathed in a month smells like the most polished of roses.

And as for your ad hominine attack on me, I must point out that rotten can be used in more than the obvious literal way, but I can see that you would be utterly unfamiliar with such a concept.

  52. Snowblood says:

No, you’re just an annoying hag who likes to poke fun at talented celebrities suffering from drug addiction by quipping that you can “only imagine the smell,” but if you really ARE a “scruffy crack addict” then I guess it’s your own shit you’re sniffing.

I’m familiar with the concept of dingbats online who get a kick out of trashing celebs based upon their own personal biases, hatreds and misconceptions; is that the familiarity to which you are referring? That’s you whom I’M referring to, by the way. Just in case you were getting confused. πŸ˜†

  53. Crux the Magic Dragon says:

This is from one of the ‘official’ Amy Winehouse sites:

I don’t want to give up on her but it’s not looking good. She seems like an empty shell of who she was even a few years ago and it just getting worse. Then again if Robert Downey JR was able to turn it around anything is possible but it took him a long time and it cost him a lot for him to finally say enough and get clean. If Amy does survive it will probably take her losing everything for her to finally say enough.

We can agree to disagree, without insulting, bullying nor belittling each other. This is a gossip site, I mean, we’ve said far worse stuff to about our coworkers, behind their backs. That being said, keep up the good work, Jaybird!

  54. Snowblood says:

Crux the Magic Dragon – Thank you so, SO much for this amazing post. And major props from me with your mention of Edie Sedgwick, I LOOOove Edie. You’re the bomb for this wonderful post, and everyone reading it, take note – Crux knows what she or he is talking about. Thank you!!!

By the way, I love your screenname. That’s pretty freakin’ awesome. πŸ˜€

  55. Snowblood says:

HEY!! What happened to the rest of your awesome post, Crux?! Bring it back!! That was SUCH a fantastic post, why’d you change it?? Oh, please please bring it back, please?

Damn. You keep changing your post!! It was perfect the first time, you know.

  56. Snowblood says:

In fact, your original post which is the one I got so excited about was the only post I liked. No offense, but this new revised edition is NOTHIng like the original, Crux, and now I realise I should’ve waited a few minutes before jumping to praise it, then again – how was I to know it’d be COMPLETELY ALTERED??

I still love your screenname, though, Crux the Magic Dragon. But – you’re killing me with that post alteration. If only you’d saved the original post.

That ORIGINAL, no-longer-existing-here post with the Sedgwick story was amazing. This completely revised edition, meh. Not so amazing. And what’s with the lofty parental admonition to us all, followed by a vaguely sycophantic nod to the writer of the article? Why’d you add all THAT, and erase your original thoughts?

  57. vdantev says:

Her music is flawless, her life is another matter πŸ™

  58. Christina X says:

I think it’s crappy that she’s less scrutinized for her drug addiction, which is what matters.

Everyone’s too concerned about- God forbid! The physical affects of drug addiction, never minding the type of impact addictions have on your health. It ALL depends how she looks, and it’s kind of annoying now. It was kind of humorous back in the day, but now it just gets on my nerves.

  59. daisy424 says:

Good singer or not; she’s still an addict looking for her next fix.

  60. rottenkitty says:

    Snowblood,

Well, nanny nanny boo boo to you, too. As this is the level of discourse you’re going to indulge in — “You’re a poopy butt. Nyah nyah nyah” — I will clarify MY point, as you obviously can’t discern it.

People with talent who squander that talent by abusing drugs past all reason are not tragic figures. They’re JUNKIES.

I don’t care how much you might adore her music — she’s a junkie. And to make matters worse — it appears that she’s a meth head junkie. That’s the bottom of the barrel by any standard.

Perhaps you should educate yourself about meth abuse. It’s a hideous downward spiral that will likely end badly.

And no, I most certainly don’t wish a terrible end for Miss Winehouse, but I will not paint her as Ophelia when in reality, she’s Nancy Spungen.

And for the record, if people are crusted with dirt (see every picture above) and clearly haven’t bathed because they’re too busy tweaking — they probably smell.

  61. Crux the Magic Dragon says:

This is for Snowblood, the original post. BTW, I didn’t agree with all of it, that’s why I changed it. I’ve always admired Jaybird’s posts, I don’t believe in being a robot, but he/she echoes a lot of what I think of Winehouse. I think rottenkitty has some valid points, too, albeit a bit harsh and judgmental.

As I’ve said in the previous intro, this is from another poster, not me. I posted it because it was a balanced view of Winehouse’s situation.

Thank you for liking my handle! Here it is!:

I think that Amy knows she is not in a state to perform. I think she knows she is not performing well, but she HAS TO do these shows. She is under contract. Fans may feel cheated, but I think she also feels bad for cheating them when she knows she can’t be in top form at the minute. She needs time away to get better. She can’t just fix everything overnight, but she is aware that she needs to, and I think she will.

And I am not buying in to the whole attitude of giving up on Amy. This whole situation reminds me of something said by Edie Sedgwick’s brother. After Edie went to rehab and finally got clean she came to visit him. He told her he was so impressed that she got clean because he didn’t think she could do it. He said that he could also see something in her eyes shatter, and a week later she was dead. What motivated her was knowing that people believed in her and that failing would let them down. I feel that I will always believe Amy can get better, and that everyone around her should too. That way she will feel guilt when she can’t live up to that. That is why I like that she gets to go places with Dionne, it shows her that falling off the wagon could cost her that precious relationship. If everyone just gives up and her, and waits for the worst, than that is only helping her fall harder and faster. I really do think that patience and support will get Amy through this. I have all the time in the world for Amy to get things right.

  62. eatavag says:

ew. her big fake hair makes me itch all over.

  63. Snowblood says:

Thanks so much, Crux the Magic Dragon (best screenname Ever, btw) for re-posting this, I really appreciate it! And I apologise for getting a tiny bit snarky there, I was just mad ’cause you took away this great post and I’d already heaped glowing praise upon it and pointed it out for everyone here to see – so, THANKS, bella, for re-posting it! You’re the bomb! πŸ˜€ 8)

  64. Abi says:

why is everyone pretending this woman is sane? her eyes are out of focus a lot of the time, and it’s not all down to drugs. she needs to be sectioned for her own good. the people making money off her in this state should be ashamed of themselves.

most of her performances are so sh*t nowadays anyway that when she gives a mediocre one, it’s lauded as brilliant (glastonbury, anyone).

  65. Snowblood says:

Sectioned? Abi, this isn’t the nineteenth century, for crying out loud. She’s high, not crazy, there’s a difference.

    – and just as I was writing this post, Amy came on the radio, singing Back to Black, covering my arms in goosebumps. Had to turn it up and rock this house! GOD, she is AMAZING!!!

  66. I choose me says:

My heart breaks whenever I hear this woman sing. So incredibly sad to see a woman of such amazing talent derailed by drugs. It’s like a tragedy unfolding right before our eyes. Nothing we can do stop it. It’s all up to Amy but its like she’s been so long at the bottom of the abyss that she doesn’t even remember the fall.

  67. Ennui says:

  68. Peekaboo says:

Agreed with Abi. She needs help, for she’s not going to get it herself.
