Ashton Kutcher launches gossip blog with annoying South Park style cartoon

A Cartoon from Ashton Kutcher’s new gossip site, “Blah Girls”
Ashton Kutcher’s media company, Katalyst Media, has launched a gossip site complete with animated characters in South Park style violence and death scenarios – with a celebrity twist. Called the “Blah Girls,” the site is an annoying mix of raunchy humor and dismissive entertainment coverage. The blog on the site is written in Perez Hilton 1.0 style with two to three lines of throwaway content to go with whichever photo they deem to stick one of their characters in. At least they’re not using Microsoft Paint to scrawl messages on the pictures.

The cartoon I watched wasn’t funny or entertaining and seemed just to be filled with violence and cursing. This is the guy who put out that “Christmas video” about the writers strike which also fell flat so it’s not like we expect much from him without good producers. Southpark works because it’s clever and tempers the edginess with meaningful messages about society and the media. Take away the intelligence of the show and all you’re left with is a bunch of annoying characters who will unfortunately return for new episodes even after they’re run over and blown to bits.

The Blah Girls were created by artist Todd Goldman, the founder of David and Goliath tees. Kutcher explained in an interview with the LA Times that Goldman approached him first with the idea. He says the concept for the site is “An interactive, animated Web series focused on all things celebrity. It’s the convergence of… celebrity news and interactive entertainment.” The target audience, according to Kutcher, is the “US Weekly audience” which ranges from 13 to 35.
