Christina Aguilera: I can laugh about my hiccups in life

Christina Aguilera is promoting that reality singing show I keep seeing continuous commercials for, The Voice. She did a press conference yesterday where she talked about her “setbacks” in a vague way, saying she’s “gone through a really hard divorce” and “there have been hiccups along the way that unfortunately the whole world gets to witness and judge.” Is that what she calls being so drunk she can’t walk or remember her own address – a “hiccup“? It’s all the press’ fault for “judging” her for forgetting the words to the National Anthem and falling on stage at the Grammys. I get it – she has to acknowledge these things in order to get us to move on and focus on her new gig, only she isn’t really acknowledging that she screwed up royally and is talking around it and acting above it all.

On her setbacks
“I think it’s the perfect time in my life [to do this show] because in light of the past year, there’s been obvious setbacks. I’ve gone through a really hard divorce, and anyone who has gone through a divorce will speak about how hard the journey is from start to finish. It’s a life-uprooting time and there have been hiccups along the way that unfortunately the whole world gets to witness and judge.

“I can laugh about my own hiccups and my own experiences in life because I’m getting through it. But I get to share these experiences with these people and I get to say not every performance day is going to be a great day. Sometimes you could be having the worst day of your life and you have to get up on that stage and you have to give to your fans in a way that they would never know the difference. You have to lose yourself in that moment and you have to be so involved. Take yourself out of your own headspace or use whatever you’re going through and put it into the passion of your song.”

Mistakes are a part of life.
“If you make a mistake, you know what? You’re human and you’re going to catch flack for it and that’s just the way it is. The best thing at the end of the day is that you can prove to not only everyone else, but most importantly yourself, that you’re strong enough to get back up on that stage and be fearless enough to try again and know within yourself that it will be better.”

She’s ready to open up about the past year.
“I think that’s the most important thing for me to do is to talk about my hiccups and the ups and downs in my career, especially in light of the past year. There have been things that have happened on stage that any performer can absolutely relate to and I’m so happy that I get to share these moments with them in such an intimate environment. I’m actually revealing a lot about myself during this show and a side of myself that I think a lot of people have never seen before, that only my closest friends see when the cameras go off. I just wanted to approach this show very openly. I’m human, too, and people make mistakes and go through things in life and I’m definitely taking that into the show.”

On her recent tweet to Britney Spears, congratulating her on her new album, Femme Fatale.
“I haven’t heard the whole thing in its entirety, I’ve been really hard on work on this show, but I am a huge supporter of her because both of our careers started off together and are still going strong. I think it’s extremely important to be supportive of fellow artists and especially females, who often get pitted against each other and torn apart. As an old friend of mine from the Mickey Mouse club, I think it’s important at this stage in the game to really show my support.”

[From Parade]

Well I hope she’s passable on The Voice. The show really does look interesting and those ads must be working because I’ll probably watch the first episode at least. With the way she’s talking about her “setbacks” and blaming everything on the divorce and attention she’s getting I doubt she’ll be sober the whole time, though. I’m also more inclined to believe those stories that she’s rejected attempts by her people to get her into rehab. In Christina’s world, it’s all very normal and understandable to get wasted every night and start pissing away your career because you’re getting divorced.

Kaiser pointed me to this blind item in the NY Post as potentially about XTina: “WHICH singer’s team is desperately trying to cover up the fact that a recent nose job has totally altered the voice?” I checked and I don’t see any difference in Aguilera’s nose, but the fact that they wrote the voice instead of her or his voice, suggests it could be her. Adam Levine has a messed up little nose but I looked at older pictures of him and it looks the same.

*hic* ha ha ha *hic* hahaha *hic*

  2. JenJen says:

I wonder if she was drunk when she said this, LOL.

  3. MikeyAngel says:

Her hammer toes look awful and painful!

  4. Crash2GO2 says:

She has sea urchins on her feet!!

  5. zxc says:

Go girl! Get that money and press!

  6. I Choose Me says:

Sigh. She could be such a pretty girl if only she would lay off the drag-queen makeup. And what the hell is she wearing on her feet?

  7. OXA says:

I think her ex and her kid were the ones suffering during the divorce. Xtina moved her new tool in, was so wasted that she did not feel a thing.
I have always found her repulsive, now I know why.

  8. Stephy2585 says:

Anyone thinking she’s looking WAY different these days??

I know the drag queen makeup and weight gain (?) accounts for some of the difference, but it looks like she got her nose done. For the worse.
Maybe on purpose? Which would be odd, but just compare these pics/recent pics with say her “X-Tina/Dirrrty” stage…

  9. brin says:

    Nice rationale.

  10. Missfit says:

I think she had a good marriage, I think Jordan was a good guy…but then that just might be my opinion. I think she’s the one who screwed it up and made it seem bigger than it actually was and tried to make it seem as if it was Jordan’s fault. She should have kept it on the down low and not talk about it if she respected it that much and been on the dl herself. I agree with OXA…how her husband and kid are the ones who probably suffered the most. Her hiccups might become big farts if she doesn’t think it’s a big deal and she may just become worse, so she needs to calm down now before it’s too late…

  11. Quest says:

Hey if Lindsay can do it, why can’t Xtina…lofl

  12. DetRiotgirl says:

I know I’m alone here, but I don’t see what’s so bad about this article. I just don’t get the hate for this girl.

I liked her quote about giving a great performance, no matter how your day is going. She is absolutely right about that. It’s just a shame she hasn’t followed her own advice in the last year or so.

Also, I liked what she said about Britney. Didn’t Britney recently say something nice about her in Out magazine too? I think it’s sweet of them to be supportive of each other.

  13. Ferguson says:

She’s a beautiful woman, why the hell does she look like shit all the time?

go ahead Xtina, blame it on the divorce.

  14. GeekChic says:

I look at those shoes she’s wearing, and all I can think of is the amount of damage I would do to someone who was trying to attack me if I were wearing them. I study karate and kobudo, and kicking, especially head kicking, is one of my favorite things (I’m unusually flexible for 33). I can only imagine how easily I could take down an attacker by kicking them in the head wearing those shoes! (Note that by “attacker” I mean like some random person really trying to hurt me where I had to defend myself. I promise I’m not a violent person otherwise.)

  15. Photo JoJo says:

She looks like a very blonde Snooki these days.

  16. ew says:

I laugh when i see your fugly face and clown makeup!

  17. bondbabe says:

Girlfriend—buy a half-size bigger shoe. Your toes will thank you.

  18. Hautie says:

Please someone stage a Intervention for that dang wig!

She has the money to buy a great wig. Yet she wears this cheap ratty wig.

I am sure Beyonce would share the contact info of her own personal wig guru… if only Christina would ask.

  19. original kate says:

she looks like a potato these days…why?

  20. Jayna says:

No mater the reason, divorce is hard, especially with a child. I thought she was one of the few poptarts that didn’t go astray. She settled down with her ex in her early twenties and subsequently married him a few years later. But divorce can lead to a brief unstable period. I’ve seen it with friends. But it calms back down. I hope she doesn’t have a drinking problem. But if she does, hopefully, she will get it under control.

  21. Jenny says:

Her brows look good for the first time in years

  22. bagladey says:

She looks awful. Xtina has an ugly smile and the white hair, the eyeliner, the lipstick, the voluptuosness, altogether paint a very busy, squat, trashy picture.

  23. Melanie says:

OMG those shoes are so awful!

  24. serena says:

At least she is admitting the mistakes. Well, hope it do well because I like her as an artist, she has an amazing voice.
I don’t think she had a nose job because it looks exactly the same to me, and if she did she could have done it better.

  25. Sassy says:

Getting shit-faced in public=hiccups? Sure, OK. But what do you call the continued orange skin, white hair and drag queen makeup? Hmm?

  26. dread pirate cuervo says:

I think Karma will reward her for saying nice things about Britney.

  27. truetalk says:

can’t she dye or bleach her own hair the same colour of the weave?

  28. Harley says:

    @DetRiotGirl – co-sign.

I love her and I hope she gets her shit together. When she’s not doing her vocal histrionics, the girl sounds great. She def has pipes.

As to her unfortunate shoes – they’re Christian Louboutins.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1366683/A-slimmer-Christina-Aguilera-makes-public-appearance-drunken-arrest.html

Usually, I love Louboutins (though I can’t afford them 🙁 ) but those I just find too odd.

  29. TXCinderella says:

Yes, and alcohol dulls the pain of those hiccups, doesn’t it Christina? I feel sorry for little Max, he is the one that will suffer in all this drama.

  30. MJ says:

I think the blind item re: the nose job is about Leona Lewis. She has definitely had one recently and looks much plainer for it. Her rep denies this, of course, but it’s very obvious.

  31. trollydolly says:

I wish her the best. She’s very talented, with a unique voice.

I’m just envious of all the perfect people on this site who’ve never gone through a rough patch and made mistakes and behaved badly.

  32. Amanda G says:

Is it possible to love someone’s music, but really really hate them? Ever since she cheated on Jordan and filed for divorce I’ve started to really dislike her after every stunt she has pulled. She is making some very foolish decisions.

  33. Catherine says:

Wow, she got really big lately which is surprising. She has always been so tiny.

  34. truthzbetta says:

She looks like crap, I hate her style of singing, but I have to admit she does have The Voice.

Nice to see her finally tone down the Bitch towards Britney. Britney was always cool and sweet to her, it’s only taken a decade but CA has FINALLY been a human towards Britney now that she knows what a setback looks like.

I guess we can all grow, nice to see. There’s hope for us all.

  35. Towelie says:

She’s turning into a blonde Snooki.

  36. Becky says:

She’s a cute girl and I don’t think the extra weight she’s put on looks that bad. However, the platinum hair and heavy make-up really need to go…it’s way past time for her to get a new look.

  37. Confuzzle says:

Hard divorce = mansion, millions of dollars, high priced lawyers, minions and hotels?

Beotch please, try going through divorce without lots of support and money. You have NFI.

  38. jemshoes says:

I really hope that blind item wasn’t about her, because Christina has a great voice – really strong, like Pink’s – and it would be a shame to lose that just for a nose job!

Well, I’m in the camp of ‘Wishing you well, Christina, but also wishing you a little more maturity and responsibility because even though you’re not a wife anymore, you’re still a mother.’

  39. Hakura says:

@DetRiotGirl“I liked her quote about giving a great performance, no matter how your day is going. She is absolutely right about that. It’s just a shame she hasn’t followed her own advice in the last year or so.
Also, I liked what she said about Britney. Didn’t Britney recently say something nice about her in Out magazine too? I think it’s sweet of them to be supportive of each other.

I cosign with this. But I have to admit, seeing how far Christina has fallen (even since her ‘dirty’ days) is pretty depressing. Like with Britney, I spent my teen years listening to her… She actually had her shit together long before the other popstars.

Just really hope she manages to beat this alcoholism. She’s one of the unfortunate league of pop singers (Jessica Simpson, Miley Cyrus, Britney) that gain weight in their face relatively quickly when alcohol is involved.

    @JemShoes – ITA!

  40. ThatBoyLuke says:

She’s aknowleged that she made mistakes, i dont get why she is supposedly obligated to go into in depth detail to people she has never met…

  41. Amea says:

I seriously think the blind item is Beyonce….calling it

  42. Hakura says:

@Amea“I seriously think the blind item is Beyonce….calling it”

I thought Beyonce had already had something done to her nose a few years ago? Unless she went back to have more work on it… She had it thinned out the first time.

I’d much rather it be Beyonce’s voice ruined than Christina’s. Ironic that someone’s vanity is going to destroy their ‘money maker’.
