Madonna hates Stella McCartney now too

wenn5647683

Yesterday, when I was covering the fashion for the Met Gala, I noted that both Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow were wearing Stella McCartney dresses. I actually like Madge’s dress more – I thought it suited her, it softened her, it was flattering and a lovely color for her. I disliked Gwyneth’s dress because it looked like dated, budget Michael Kors. I also noted that considering Gwyneth and Madonna are no longer BFFs, the fact that they both showed up in Stella gowns probably caused some controversy. Lainey noted it too – and she thought that Gwyneth and Stella (and Kate Hudson, Rashida Jones and others) were hanging out at the gala and mean-girling Madge. All of it sounds like a potential powder-keg of Bitches Being Bitches. So… how did Madge retaliate? She told reporters that she felt fat! GASP.

Even the Material Girl feels less than perfect sometimes.

At the Met Gala in New York on Monday night, Madonna confessed to reporters that she wasn’t thrilled with the way she looked.

“I feel fat in my dress,” she said.

The 52-year-old mother of four looked extremely fit in her blue Stella McCartney dress. She paired the gown with Sergio Rossi heels and Cartier jewelry.

The chiseled star, famous for her macrobiotic diet and intense workout regime, even opened a Hard Candy gym in Mexico City and has plans to expand the franchise to more than ten locations worldwide.

[From Us Weekly]

Do you think Madge honestly felt fat, or do you think this was a cut at Stella McCartney? That’s how I read it, honestly. This is Madge NOT defending the woman who designed her dress. This is Madge telling the world, “Stella McCartney does not make me feel beautiful.” Which, in another leap says “Stella isn’t as good a designer as she thinks.” Or, “Stella makes women look fat = Gwyneth looks fat.” DOUBLE GASP!!!

Or it could totally be that Madge just has extreme body image issues. Thus, The Gristle. Thus, whenever she’s not dressed up in Lola’s clothes, she feels “fat.”

Oh, and I still want to know exactly what happened between Madge and Goop. I think it started because of Tracy Anderson, but I don’t think it’s about Tracy anymore.

By the way, Stella McCartney really isn’t all that. Look at what she made for herself.

Lovely color on Madonna; and I have to say that the shoes Stella has on are definitely on my covet list. The dress…not so much.

  2. dread pirate cuervo says:

LOL! You can’t ‘mean girl’ Madonna! She’s Madonna!!! I think that’s definitely a dig at Stella for giving the Goop one of her dresses.

  3. Crash2GO2 says:

I want to grab Stella’s legs and dust the floor with her.

  4. ladybert62 says:

That stella mccarthy dress that she made for herself is horrendous!

I doubt that madonna had such a intrigue sort of statement. I think she simply felt fat – who knows why.

I do know this, if a designer made such a horrible dress for herself, there is no way I would ever let her design a dress for me – ever.

  5. MollyB says:

Madonna’s dress is really lovely. Stella’s own dress made me LOL with the awfulness.

  6. neelyo says:

McCartney’s dress reminds me of when we made dioramas from Pringles cans in elementary school. We’d cut out a hole in the front of the can and inside there’d be an Easter egg or something. Her legs are like the egg. Hideous dress!

McCartney’s always been over-rated. That Madonna dress is the first McCartney dress I’ve ever liked.

  7. azurea says:

Most of Stella’s designs are downright hideous & unflattering. She’s laughing all the way to the bank for foisting these monstrosities on gullible folk with too much money. Although I must say that Madonna’s dress ain’t bad.

  8. Janna says:

Madonna loves Stella, and I doubt it was a dig. She obviously wore the dress because she loved it. Madonna has put on a few pounds, which looks good. Plus, I guarantee how you hear something in person is different in print. Like what was said before and after and in maybe a joking tone.

Stella’s dress is so bad it’s laughable. A tween could have sat at her mom’s sewing machine and stitched that monstrosity together. I agree with a poster above. I love Stella’s shoes, though.

  9. Melanie says:

I choked on my breakfast burrito with that hideous penguin dress.
    Stella is so stupid!

  10. normades says:

Stella would not be where she is if she wasn’t Paul’s daughter. Phoebe Philo is the one that had the real talent at Chloé.

And all of her dresses at the met ball were super unflattering.

  11. Hakura says:

    I cosign Azurea.

Stella’s dress makes her look like a suppository.

  12. Phillylady says:

I think is it inappropriate for a woman with two young daughters to make a public statement about how she feels fat, especially considering that she is as thin as can be. What kind of message does that send her daughters? I am not into it. And I am so sad to say, but honestly i am over Madonna. She was what I wanted to be when I grew up, but now that i actually have grown up I see that she has regressed somehow. She is tiresome and seems mean.

  13. Waldemar says:

I think the feud is about an idea for a fitness centre chain based on Tracy’s work out. First Madonna and Tracy were in on it together, then Goop muscled her way in. Then, very soon, Tracy was fired, Goop was kicked out of the inner circle and Madonna went along and opened up her own fitness centre (Mexico first and later Russia). Tracy and Goop are still planning on opening up their own chain, that’s why Goop is (again) hammering on and on about her fitness regime, but it seems to late now. Both Tracy and Goop have made bitchy remarkes about Madonna while Madonna and her camp stayed silent. The two are pissed, that is for sure.

Regarding the “I feel fat” comment. That was to make headlines, nothing more and nothing less.

  14. Rachel says:

If you don’t want to feel fat, don’t wear satin. It’s the absolute worst fabric.

  15. Happymom says:

I actually thought Madonna looked beautiful. It reminds me of her Evita stage-I thought she looked the best then. Stella McCartney looks ridiculous-and she seems like the most stuck up twat.

  16. Macey says:

    wait…Madonna has 4 kids?
I thought she only had Lourdes and the one she adopted??

  17. normades says:

@ Waldemar: I think that’s spot on. Between those two I’ll have to go team Madge. Goopy seem so vindictive when it comes to ex-friends.

  18. Bubbling says:

I feel that “I feel fat” comment is coming from Tracy Anderson brain washing her clients. I love me some Stella but, back five years ago, now she really isn’t all that

  19. Canuck says:

I loved Madonna’s dress, it’s very a very flattering colour for her. But news flash for Madge… shiny material = the slightest bump or unshaved leg hair shows, as is evident from the fishnet pattern of whatever she’s wearing underneath from the knees down that you can see in the crouching picture. I don’t think anyone who wears a shiny dress isn’t going to feel a bit worried about the slightest imperfection showing up.

  20. Janna says:

@Macey, she has a son with Guy Richie, Rocco. She has two adopted children, David and Mercy.

  21. mln76 says:

I loved Madge’s dress first off it was really cute much better than the crappy nude shizz that Goopy was wearing.
I believe it was a dig but really it’s sad that women as old and rich as these three find it necessary to mean-girl each other. I am betting there was some real junior high shit going down at that party with Goopy at the center of it. Insecurity is so unflattering.

  22. Rhiley says:

I am curious about the Madonna/Goopy fallout too but if I had to guess, I would think that Madonna just got bored with Goop. Madonna seems to do that, doesn’t she? She finds one woman friend that she showers with affection and praise for a year or two, but as soon as the “friend’s” star begins to fade just the slightest, she moves on. Examples include: Sandra Bernhard, Rosie O’donnell, and that Miami club owner whose name I have no clue of, but Madonna was all best buds with her during her bisexuality phase. Anyway, I think Madonna pulled a Madonna and moved on, and for her part, I think Goop just didn’t care.

  23. NoFrank says:

Madge’s dress cuts oddly across her boobs and satin is a very unforgiving medium. The least little bump or bulge and it looks like you’ve got a rhinocerous inside the dress with you.

I’ve never liked Stella McCartney’s designs. There’s always something just a little “off” about them, like she didn’t really finish them or didn’t really care.

  24. Hautie says:

Madonna feels fat cause she is actually dressed in clothes. Not just her panties/girdle. Trying to show off all her gristle.

And where was the boy child she has been dating?

As long as Madonna continues to date boys younger than 25. I will continue to see her as desperate.

  25. courtney says:

that’s your oppinion and your entitled to it as I’m entitled to disagree I’ve always lvoed Stella’s designs she knows how to dress real women unlike alot of designers granted she also grew up the child of a full figured woman

  26. Hakura says:

@Hautie“As long as Madonna continues to date boys younger than 25. I will continue to see her as desperate.”

I’ll admit, I’m curious as to why she NEVER dates a man closer to her age. (Or even approaching it.) I get that she’s a strong, smart woman, always has been. Doesn’t that mean she could hold her own in an ‘equal’ relationship with someone with an emotional maturity level closer to her’s? (Or.. what her’s should be, based on her age?)

It just seems like she has no interest in anything but ‘toys’. (At least with the ones at home in her dresser drawers, she wouldn’t have to ‘pay to play’ every time.)

  27. albeli says:

I can’t believe Stella put herself in THAT. It’s beyond fug and unflattering. It’s just awful awful awful!

Madge looks OK. It does cut her strangely in the best. But she looks anything but fat.

  28. drawbackwards says:

First thought with Stella’s dress: phallic spaceship.

As for Madge, if her comment was a publicity stunt, it’s quite insulting to Stella (whether or not they are feuding), and sets a really poor standard for her daughters.
Bulging veins and bones on the female body, despite muscle tone, are typically characteristic of being underweight. If she truly feels “fat,” that’s a problem.

  29. Nancy says:

This is stupid BS Lainey is so full of it, she’s always a (See You Next Tuesday) to Madonna there’s a picture of her sitting with Stella McCartney and Paul McCartney.

  30. Lady D says:

“That stella mccarthy dress that she made for herself is horrendous!”

“McCartney’s always been over-rated. That Madonna dress is the first McCartney dress I’ve ever liked.”

“much better than the crappy nude shizz that Goopy was wearing.”

Totally. Appreciate you ladies filling in the blanks for me. My brain-to-tongue synapses are still sleeping.

  31. Blue says:

I’m tired of Madonna and her bulging veins. She’s way too into herself. But I did like that dress on her. I saw that she told reporters she skipped the royal wedding, because it was her only day to sleep in. As far as I heard, she wasn’t even invited. Even if I been up for 2 wks, I would have been there with bells on!

  32. TXCinderella says:

I think Madonna’s dress is really pretty. It reminds me of old Hollywood. Stella on the otherhand, needs to rethink her look. That is a F-U-G-L-Y dress!

  33. Deven says:

Madonna’s dress = stunning, beautiful on her. Stella’s dress = imaginative and well-designed.

  34. Annaloo says:

    whoa Whoa WOAH!!!

IS this conversation for real? How IN THE WORLD could someone like MADONNA get mean-girled??! Are you kidding me?

Madonna, like her or not, is already at living legend category. People like Gwyneth, Kate, Stella, Liv, Rashida, Jen Aniston, etc and any other nepotistic Hollywood product rarely reach that status level and are only HOLLYWOOD HAND-ME-DOWN talent.

There is only one Madonna. Madonna does not get mean-girled.

The dress was incredible.. it was just an incredibly rich thing to say she felt “fat” looking the way she did.

Madge is the queen, and she knows it. Gwyneth probably bored her..people get tired of other people who try to mimic them so much.

  35. jc126 says:

In that top shot, Madonna’s arms do look out of proportion for HER. Certainly not fat, but maybe her arms are too pumped, not fat. But overall she looks nice for once.
I also find her desperate and kind of weird in that she only now dates young, young guys. It’s stupid. She was married to 10-years-younger Guy Ritchie, not a big age difference, but she always seemed tired trying to keep up with him; remember how she fell off the horse and talked about going to the pub all the time? She seemed tired, but happy. Now, it’s like she wants young guys who will do what she wants them to do.

  36. Annaloo says:

And the other thing… you had to have noticed how Gwyneth’s Tryhard massively increased after she and Madge fellout.

    Just saying.

  37. jc126 says:

Forgot to add – Madonna ought to get up every day and thank her lucky stars she’s not affiliated with that sleazy Tracy Anderson.

  38. Catherine says:

It wasn’t a dig at McCartney at all. She probably has pre-menopausal bloat and felt fat.

  39. wunderkindt says:

Fat? ugh, Madonna has always had body dysmorphic syndrome. Nothing new about that at age 52!

Stella’s dress: I like the IDEA more than the actual dress itself. Looks more like a ‘student project’rather than a professional design product.

  40. TG says:

@azurea – I totally agree with you and as some posters said above Stella would not be where she is if she wasn’t Paul’s daughter.

I love the post about Madonna getting “mean-girled”. It is too funny and as someone said above you can’t “mean-girl” Madonna. I think Lainey is just trying to be funny and even if her post is a little out there you have to admit that is too funny reminding Madonna of her roots.

  41. mln76 says:

This is the fashion world people there is no bigger insult to a designer than to say they felt fat in their dress.

  42. Magsy says:

Madonna looks like Marlene Dietrich. Especially with that creepy side shot straight out of a World War 2 spy movie.

  43. Just Me says:

    Madonna said it, but . . .
her eyes tell a different story.
She looks very confident in how she looks!

  44. mommyesq says:

Clearly Madonna has body-image issues. I think she said it so that everyone will say “no, she’s not fat, she’s in great shape.” yeah, nice try. (although the dress looks great on her.)

  45. Janna says:

jc125, Richie gave an interview about Madonna after the split. And he said she runs circles around any 20 something year old. I have a feeling she tired him out and that he just likes to sit around the house and have a pint and relax and Madonna is type A. Anyone watching her on stage these last five years can see she has more energy and stamina than the young poptarts.

In fact, it was stated somewhere after Madonna’s fall from the horse, she was laid up and was really in bad shape for a few months and he seem uncaring and not there for her. He was used to strong Madonna. And that’s when she realized it was the last straw, that they didn’t have much of a partnership if he wasn’t there for her emotionally during that time.

  46. Joe's Mom says:

I really liked Madonna’s dress. Kind of oddly resembled Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. I don’t think it was a slam against Stella Mc. I completely agree with Hautie, #24 -“Madonna feels fat cause she is actually dressed in clothes. Not just her panties/girdle. Trying to show off all her gristle.”

  47. Solveig says:

Why should a woman who dates younger men be desperate and a man who dates much younger women not?
Stella McCartney is not a good designer, it doesn’t need Madonna’s word to understand and aknowledge a fact like this. Madonna looks beautiful (cough cough) in that colour, tho.

  48. filthycute says:

Stella is an unrelentingly UGLY woman.

  49. jc126 says:

#47, just ftr, I find men who only date women half their age to seem desperate, too.

  50. kazoo says:

    @rhiley, ingrid casares!

  51. sassy says:

I wonder if Madonna has an eating disorder. It’s so interesting to me when you see a woman, who is beautiful, but gets older and has a daughter. Then she notices the transfer of power going from her to her younger daughter. How that must feel for her. So interesting to me. Madonna is a classic example. What must go through her mind when she notices her daughter getting the attention she was very accustomed to. Ladies, discuss…

  52. Rose says:

What all you nasty people are forgetting is that this night was about honoring Lee McQueen. Stella’s design was fabulous — and just weird enough to honor the spirit of McQueen. I couldn’t have pulled it off but Stella did. Woman has balls — so to speak.

And Madonna looked better in Stella’s dress than Madonna has looked in AGES. Paltrow looked fabulous, too. And I have no interest/opinion in whether they’re getting along or not since none of us have any way of knowing.

  53. cailinos says:

Not wildly enthused by Madge’s rigout, but boy, tis a relief from all that super-trashy, synthetic black stuff she usually wears these days, which looks SO tacky and unoriginal. With all her money, her looks, allure, and éclat, she could be the best dressed woman at any event, but she contrives to blow it, unfortunately. An elegant, non-bonkers Daphne Guinness vibe is what I’d like from Madonna!

  54. Psyren says:

I’ve never liked any of Stella’s designs to be honest. The only thing she’s made that was worthwhile was her perfume line.

  55. Anne says:

God are you b—ches blind? Stella is an immensely talented designer. She puts up with a wealth of hatred from anonymous posters. Must be Heather Mills and a couple of her friends.

Among the best dressed women at the Met Ball were the ones in Stella clothes: Iman, Gwyneth, Madonna, Hailee Steinfield, Naomi Watts, Colin Firth’s wife, Eva Mendes.

  56. Cha Cha Loca says:

More like fat head. Vadge gets worse looking every time I see her.

  57. Lucky Charm says:

I like the dress, and the color is fabulous. And I agree that it does look similar to the Kate Middleton wedding dress.

As far as not attending the wedding because she wanted to sleep in? Ok, sure. It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with A) not being invited or B) that her ex-husband Guy Ritchie was there, right?

  58. Luise says:

Madonna looks great in her Stella gown; however, does any one realize that she in addition to all of her plastic surgery, she has gotten a major chin implant. If you look at photos of her from the 1980’s, she had a heart shaped face with a little tiny pointed chin. Now she has a big old Jennifer Aniston hunk of a chin. LOL.

  59. k.at says:

Silliness- that is the only word to describe Stella’s dress. Madonna’s dress is gorgeous, and she looks like a balck penis with a skirt on = silliness

  60. harfang says:

Madonna’s dress is too tight for her. I find it quite stunning, but when I look at the cap sleeves and the front, I wince in sympathy. It must have been very uncomfortable whenever she had to, for example, operate her limbs. So as much as I love the dress, wtf is wrong with Stella’s (or her people’s) fitting mojo?

  61. whitedaisy says:

Stella McCartney’s designs are horrendous and she would not be where she is today without calling Paul, “Daddy”.
Madonna’s is a direct rip off of 1940 Ginger Rogers and her own dress is beyond terrible.

  62. Hakura says:

@Rose“What all you nasty people are forgetting is that this night was about honoring Lee McQueen. Stella’s design was fabulous — and just weird enough to honor the spirit of McQueen. I couldn’t have pulled it off but Stella did. Woman has balls — so to speak. …And I have no interest/opinion in whether they’re getting along or not since none of us have any way of knowing.”

Oh, get off your high horse. =P We all talk about things we have no way of knowing on a regular basis here. Never stopped you before?

Stella’s dress is a disaster…. It takes ‘abstract’ to an unflattering extreme. Madonna looked especially nice, & I didn’t read anything into her ‘fat’ comment. I do think she goes a little too far with the working out (‘gristle’ is not sexy), but when she gets it right, she gets it right.

@Anne“Among the best dressed women at the Met Ball were the ones in Stella clothes: Iman, Gwyneth, Madonna, Hailee Steinfield, Naomi Watts, Colin Firth’s wife, Eva Mendes.”

The meaning of the word ‘best’ is obviously subjective. Her designs at this event have been a hot mess, missing far more than hitting. But I don’t go for ‘abstract’ padded/pointed places sticking out, either.

  63. S says:

Sorry but stellas dress as an honour to mcqueen? thats just ridicule. As someone else pointed out, her dress looks penguinesque, no other than that.
But i love Madonnas dress. Finally a colour that suits her very well. For once she looks simply great.

  64. Francesca says:

She feels fat because the dress is too tight across her bust! her boobs are being cut in half like a deviled egg! gack!!

  65. Kim says:

UMMM how do you get she hates Stella from saying she felt fat? That is stretching it.

  66. curmudgeon says:

Funny cuz that’s the best I’ve see Madonna look in a while.

  67. 4evaRedd says:

I think Madonna looks stunning–old Hollywood glamour is what comes to mind. She is one of the few that could actually pull it off (even when she’s feeling fat); and those jewels just add to the glamour. It’s nice to see her looking so fresh and healthy again.

  68. kira says:

God, take the Queen away. Shouldn’t she be in England w/her people celebrating the Royal wedding b/c she’s such a blue blood? 🙂

I love the fact that Goopy is no longer friends w/her. I think it’s so funny that the two full-of-themselves fakes turned on each other. I remember how Madonna’s old pal that she ditched, Rufus Sewell, talked about how Madge and Gwyneth mean-girled J.Lo at a party. And, now they are mean-girling each other. Ahhh, karma.

  69. Darolo says:

I don’t think it was a calculated dig at all. I heard it on E! Live and she was laughing as she said it. It was a comment like many if us make if we feel a bit bloated occasionally. Also M was photographed a lot with Stella, and with Stella and Sir Paul McC. I think it’s Madonna that doesn’t need Gwyneth not the other way round.Gwyneth is not the charming person she’s made out to be and such character traits are beginning to surface. Madonna has better things to do than waste time on someone who has treated her so appallingly. You don’t bad-mouth M and stay in her circle. It’s just sad that Gwyneth needs to try to drag others into her childish behaviours.

  70. Diane says:

I agree that Stella is vastly overrated and without the last name, she’d be working as a shopgirl selling somebody else’s clothing. As for Madonna’s dress, I also agree that it’s the most flattering design to emerge from Stella’s brain, but I couldn’t help thinking that if you shortened it to above-knee, gave Madge a sailor hat and a pair of tap shoes, she could star in Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, the Musical.

  71. annachestnut says:

Stella’s clothes are cheap looking, poorly designed and unflattering. There is a display of her dresses in the Saks Fifth Avenue window next to some dresses by Alexander McQueen. McQueen’s clothes are works of art. See what connections do? She is taking the spotlight from designers who are actually talented.

  72. annachestnut says:

The seams on Stella’s dresses appear bumpy. The dresses are not well cut. Notice how Hollywood is dominated by the children of famous actors? Connections mean more than talent.

  73. Naomi says:

I love this dress, i was online one day perusing for ideas for my wedding dress, i want simple, with cap sleeves, and the back covered, easy brief, and then a few days later i came across this picture of Madge at whatever event this is for… and fell in love with it, i like the color and the shape of the dress, i like the spray of stars also, but i am definetly having one made similar.. i think it suits her so much, i just hope it will suit me and i can do it as much justice as Madge has… love love love it. or maybe i have taste up my a** but i like it.

  74. Wow, fantastic blog layout! How lengthy have you been blogging for? you make blogging glance easy. The total look of your web site is magnificent, let alone the content material!

  75. anne says:

That old-Hollywood-glamour/Veronica-Lake-type silhouette’s been kind of done to death, but the stars give it a sense of humor. And I like the color. But it doesn’t look like it’s cut very well. The arms are too bunchy. I also feel like they went overboard on the stars or should have used something more luxe than silver thread.
The idea’s cute but there’s nothing new going on with that dress and the execution isn’t great.
