Mischa Barton shops at Target, looks really annoyed, plans fashion line

It seems slow today, or maybe Kaiser is just on top of things as usual, so I thought I might cover these amusing photos of Mischa Barton shopping at Target. She looks pretty normal, for her, in that her outfit isn’t wildly clashing, incredibly too short, both, poorly cut, made out of some weird material or some deadly combination of all those fashion missteps. We’ve really only talked about Mischa lately for her terrible fashion or her “wisdom tooth surgery” breakdown, which was as short-lived as her last television series.

So it’s nice to see Mischa out at Target looking like a normal annoyed shopper with bad hair. She was buying plastic storage boxes and cleaning supplies. She wore a canary yellow a-line skirt with a skinny brown belt and a dingy white tank top. For her, it really wasn’t bad. But then I scrolled down and saw her black studded flats. I think my mom bought me that style shoe in fifth grade in the 80s and I refused to wear them.

The photo agency had details of Mischa’s planned “fashion line” to go along with her awful headbands and purses. Please see any of the links above or any of these photos for evidence why Mischa shouldn’t have her own fashion line. People joke that Jessica Simpson shouldn’t be so successful in fashion since she can’t dress properly, but Mischa takes fug to new levels. I guess this news came out a month ago but we never really heard about it, since it’s Mischa. She told Vogue.co.uk. “It’s something I really want to do. It’ll be forties-meets-seventies with the occasionally bit of twenties – that sounds a bit random, but I’ll take elements of different decades. It’ll be a bit like Biba, but with a real simplicity of cut and lots of bright colours. The fabrics will be great quality, and there will be lots of separates, like slacks and shirts. I want people to be able to mix and match.” Again, Mischa herself lacks the ability to mix, match, use decent fabric or chose outfits that are cut simply or well. I would say that Mischa doesn’t have much else going on, but a glance at IMDB shows she has parts in a bunch of movies out this year that will probably go straight to DVD.

    wow. cankles.

  2. Blue says:

She looks awful. She really doesn’t know how to dress or carry herself. In these pics especially she looks so frumpy. Bad posture as well.

  3. Truthful says:

    no hope–NONE.

  4. Heatheradair says:

Just had to google photos of her from 2003 or so to remind myself what she USED to look like. Poor kiddo – she’s a long way from the OC…..

  5. brin says:

She went downhill in warp speed, didn’t she?

  6. OtherChris says:

The most interesting part of these pictures is the cashier’s snazzy shoes.

Mischa does look better than usual. Maybe she’s sober. Let’s hope so.

  7. Oi says:

Does this mean that she does her own storing and cleaning? Why else would she personally buy these things?

  8. Blue says:

@brin, she really did. Everyone was hyping her up as the next big thing. She was everywhere and she thought she was a big star and too good for the OC. Her and Rachel Bilson. At least Rachel is getting her own (short-lived) show.

  9. ShellyMay says:

Cheer up Mischa. No shame shopping at Target.

  10. brin says:

@Blue…that’s true, a real cautionary tale.

  11. Rita says:

I use to think she was the prettiest girl on TV and then she became a gaunt looking meth potato.

I’m glad to see her looking so normal.

  12. Obvious says:

…wow…say what you will about Rachel Bilson, but she knows how to dress, maybe Mischa should hit up her ex-co star for fashion advice because damn….granted this is far better than anything we’ve since since her OC days, but still…

  13. Eve says:

And to think she refused a role in gossip Girl because, you know, she was a movie star.

I bet she regrets that deeply.

  14. Tiffany says:

Mischa and Target worker compete for most horrid shoe award!

  15. Janie says:

She really isn’t special. I don’t see a comeback for her. She was never a good actress – just a pretty face and that is gone now too. She doesn’t know how to dress herself and looks years older – with cankles. Sad, but true.

  16. Tiffany says:

@ CB. Slow news day? For gossip maybe. You guys have to cover the Rupert Murdoch hearings. This s*itis EPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!!!!!!! This stuff has been having my ears pointing up since it started.

  17. curleque says:

My eyes went right to those shoes before I even read the story, I thought, “Those studded flats are so budget 1988.” Wow…

Very Fayva… Anyone remember those stores?

  18. MeMyself says:

    Aw man….I SO miss Target.

I live in England now and the one in my hometown of Missoula Montana rocks!

Whenever I go home I bring an empty suitcase for all the American treasures I can’t find here….

  19. filthycute says:

Liz, you’re probably perfect, complete with delicate ankles 🙂

Full disclosure: I have thick ankles.

  20. Misza says:

WOW I still remember when she was the it girl. Damn it makes me feel old.

  21. 4Real says:

    Oh honey…just no.

  22. Happymom says:

She was such a lovely looking girl not that long ago. High schools should show pictures of her “before and after” as a cautionary tale about partying.

  23. Ally says:

Great postute, flattering shoes, and a little smile on the face will sure improve the ‘cankles’. Take it from a girl who knows…

  24. Zelda says:

    @Misza
Hah–then you are probably not very old.
Get back to me when you remember Gretchen Mol as the “It Girl”
    Or Winona Ryder.

  25. sapphire says:

Seriously has-been. I don’t know who or why anyone would invest in her fashion line. I had forgotten she was a casualty of the whole who-needs-food-if-there’s-drugs crowd.

  26. KatieM says:

Liz, she does not have cankles. While her outfit is unflattering, she is still very fit. A woman her age should not have the stick-like legs of a little girl. Reality check time.

  27. Mark says:

Amazing how all the people who post about these ‘celebrities’ are so hateful and mean, when they are probably much uglier and have worse clothes.
All of you snarky people are what’s wrong with this world. A world of high school bullies who never grew up and have no love or compassion for anyone.

It is YOU, not Mischa who I feel sorry for.
    Glass houses people….

  28. Praise St. Angie! says:

Fayva…WOW. I TOTALLY remember that store!

yeah, I think I had a pair of those flats circa 1990.

    EDIT: no, more like 1987.

  29. jover says:

A fashion line, please several months ago I read in a high end travel mag an article about the design team for high end line Akris – there is no way this d-lister has their fashion knowledge or style; why can’t these celebutards find something useful to do with their time – like go back to school – instead of insulting real designers. Where will her label sell at – the local convenience store?

  30. Alice says:

I want her dream of a fashion line to become reality simply for the amusement it’ll bring. 40s meets 70s? It’s gonna be hideous.

  31. OriginalGracie says:

Question: why are there paps in Target?
What the heck? Did they see this “big giant television star” going in and they followed her to get these riveting shots of her buying household items?

    Color me confused.

  32. Kelly says:

Why is she on this site – wait, didn’t she used to be famous?

I don’t usually snark on people’s body types – only their odious personalities and bad fashion – but I have to say that she is really bottom-heavy. I remember at one point she gave a really pompous, obnoxious interview (one of many) talking about how thin she is and blah blah. Kind of in Gwyneth mode. Nothing wrong with being bottom-heavy, but please own it!

  33. ladybert62 says:

Is she working? How does she have any money whatsoever?

Why is it that just because someone has a tenous relationship with hollyweird that they think they can do a fashion line?

I doubt she will be any more successful in a fashion line than she has been successful in anything else – harsh I know but she does not impress me as a “doer”.

  34. Stubbylove says:

    She looks she smells.

  35. Ron says:

She desperately needs to do Dancing with the Stars to get some career at all on track.

  36. Annie_Grey says:

You never know. Many in the fashion world who don’t know how to put it all together on themselves often put out good lines.

  37. ctkat1 says:

I have lost any shred of sympathy I might have felt for this girl when I watched her interview with Fearne Cotton (September 2010).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cldqNZ2vJA

She’s entitled and ridiculous and I think the current state of her career is perfectly explained by her attitude in this interview.

The older I get, the less patience I have for these “starlets” who act like entitled A-holes (see: Lindsay, Mischa, Tara) and blow their very promising careers because they can’t manage to pull themselves together.

  38. WildChild says:

Some of these comments are so mean.

  39. Bee says:

I don’t agree with #27- saying the mean posts come from people who never grew out of their bullying ways in high school. In my humble opinion, these comments are left by people who were ignored or made fun of in high school, and they have to insult others to make themselves feel good. How about some of you snarkies post a picture of yoursel and lets pick you apart. I really don’t think her skirt is that bad…. I like it; I just would have put a different shirt on with it. And the shoes are not the worst things I have ever seen.

  40. Rio says:

Yeesh, #29 and #37…hypocracy much? Pot, meet kettle. I think you’ll get along famously.

In my OWN opinion, anyone who trots out the “they were such and such in hig school” cliche needs to find a new one. NO ONE cares who anybody is or was in high school except for people who are currently in it. One of my college roommates was the type who was stuck on her hig school “glory days” and seemed shocked, I mean SHOCKED that no one gave a rats ass where she went.

And for the record, I was neither a bully or picked on- just an average kid going through average tee issues, as I suspect MOST PEOPLE who went to HS were.

  41. Ruby Red Lips says:

Hard to believe she was ever Marissa Cooper!!!!

Side note, Cankles always look better with a slight heel rather than flats

  42. Anonandonandon says:

@Mark and @Bee, You two are both using far too many words to convey your complex emotions. Try this: “ur all jus jeeluz hatrz!”.

Then get your asses back to britneyspears.com for more unicorns and rainbows. Celebitchy is far too much for you to handle.

  43. Jaana says:

I think she dressed that way on purpose..

  44. Melancholy says:

She looks like a bag lady.

I make that annoyed face waiting in line at Target, but only if I’m surrounded with ferals coughing their flu bugs all over me. (Tis flu season.)

  45. Maritza says:

I’m sure she would have preferred to do her business unnoticed.

  46. lucy2 says:

She really did have a fast decline. Sounds like a bad combination of outrageous ego, drugs, and general bad attitude. Plus she wasn’t exactly an amazing actress who people would try to still work with.

  47. Seal Team 6 says:

Good God, this is “Celebitchy,” not “Shambahla Sun.”

  48. Emily says:

Hey, I’m wearing studded flats right now! Mine are much cuter though.

Man, no one came out of the OC with a career, did they? I remember they were all supposed to have super fabulous film careers… At least Rachel Bilson can still dress well…

  49. KatT says:

Why is she shopping in her granny’s house slippers?

  50. Flan says:

    The OC was so boring.

  51. Blank says:

I think she looks good here. I’m not sure why you are all judging her so harshly. Her hair isn’t a great color but it looks kind of cute up.

  52. Ashley says:

She should have never left the OC.

  53. Ally says:

Mischa was sort of the Blake Lively of ten years ago, no? California TV girl getting good parts in movies, etc.

  54. The Bobster says:

Shopping at Target annoys me, too. Too much walking to find what I need.

  55. ToastedSkin says:

I wish she’d get back her career already. It’s sad that the only time she’s in the news, it’s about her “horrible” fashion sense. I mean, she was MARISSA COOPER for god’s sake.

  56. Meeshhead says:

Jealousy rears its ugly face! You bashers wish that you had one tenth of her beauty, talent, intelligence and class. Move on and get a life!

  57. Jo says:

Got to agree with Meeshhead here. Mischa is a beautiful and talented person, and all of the negative comments about her being posted here seem to stem from jealousy of her beauty and talent. Everyone has good and bad days, or ones where they don’t feel like dressing up, but you guys seem to think that everyone has to glam it up every time they go out. Well, it isn’t like that in the real world, even for celebrities – Remember, they are people too, with the same feelings as everyone else. How would you guys feel if someone took pictures of you out shopping, posted them on a website, and people then started making derogatory comments about you? You wouldn’t like it, would you? So what gives you the right to do the same about someone like Mischa?

  58. Adrian says:

Excellent posts from Meeshhead and Jo! Mischa has more style, talent and intelligence in her little finger than any of those here bashing her have in their whole body! And not only is she still stunningly beautiful, but she has the best kind of beauty too – A beautiful soul and kind heart.

  59. Analise says:

She could’ve shopped at Nordstrom’s and gotten away with being so haute couture that she was above looking fashionable. At least she looks comfortable.

  60. Amie says:

Not a huge Mischa fan, but I love seeing celebs doing things just like me.. even pushing their own carts. When I can though, I use Target coupons and shop online. Great for avoiding the paps.
