So last week, we covered the rumor about Selena Gomez possibly dumping Justin Bieber over his friendship with Chris Brown as well as the disappointing revelation that these two were in fact still together. While this does nothing to dissuade near-universal fears about a Gomez-Bieber accidental pregnancy, here’s something else that might creep you out just a bit. It seems that, even before Selena and Justin got together, she had a major crush on the little guy; last year, she even described herself as a “cougar” for lusting over his weeness:

Selena Gomez always shows a lot of PDA with her boyfriend Justin Bieber, but in a newly-unearthed interview she gushes about her man – and even uses the l-word!
Selena, 19, gave an interview on Omaha radio station Channel 94.1 FM when the host played a clip of her her from 2010 – when Selena is RAVING about her man Justin, 17!
“That kid’s amazing,” she said. “I love Bieber so I could talk all about him all day. Everyone thinks I’m a cougar!”
When asked to comment on her words, Selena gave a totally cute answer.
“Nothing’s changed, apparently,” she said

So Selena described Bieber as a “kid” and now (presumably in the past few days) has confirmed that she’s still feeling the same way about him. While this could be a lot creepier — their age difference is only two years — Selena’s still romancing a 17-year-old that, on his best days, looks like a 14-year-old boy at the very most. Of course, these two are now frequently joined at the lips and, uh, probably elsewhere. Am I overreacting to find this entire thing more than slightly creepy?

NOPE. Not overreacting at all. This has been going on for a while in real life (I used to work at a crisis pregnancy center and saw younger than this in both cases).
I’m a kindergarten teacher and even there I discourage bf/gf relationships encouraging instead that my young students learn to appreciate and be friends with as many classmates as possible. (Its neither cute nor fun dealing a 5/6 yo so devastated 2 weeks later when their bf/gf has decided to not be exclusive).
Anyway, now that these 2 are so public I won’t be surprised if this kinda thing becomes more common and public among the young masses. Unfortunately, most kids aren’t privileged enough to have the $$ and access to luxuries that ameliorate the negative side effects and consequences.

I think you’re being unfair. Sure, he might look young. But none of us really know- maybe he’s very mature, or he makes her feel like a woman or maybe she enjoys his playfulness. it’s unfair to judge just because he looks young. I think it’s cute, I am 17, not really a Bieber fan AT ALL, but I do think the dislike towards this relationship is unfair. They’ve nothing to be ashamed of.

I think it is unfair. Good grief, they are both just KIDS..and,yeah they should both look incredibly young to us adults..but they don’t look that way to each other. I think they are kinda cute together (even though I don’t like the Bieb much). I really think someone oughta explain what a “cougar” is to her though. She is decades away from that.

Initially it looks a bit creepy because the ‘kid’ DOES look 14. But he’s not. Nobody seemed to have a visceral response like this to the hook-up of Sparkles & K Stewart, who had a similar age difference (OK; maybe the legal team at Summit’s head office, but otherwise, most people were like, ‘awww! How sweet!’).
In Bieber’s case, I even hope the ‘romance’ is genuine—despite that meaning he’ll suffer a teenage heartbreak at some point. JB is surrounded by some dubious male role models (to put it mildly), so a confident, strong-willed girlfriend is not a bad idea right now. That she’s 2 years older & more experienced is even a plus.
And if it’s real, of COURSE they’re having sex. Late adolescence + hormones? Inevitable.

I honestly don’t see what the big deal is. If the roles were reversed, and it was a 19 year old guy with a 17 year old girl, nobody would be flipping out about it. Yes, JB looks younger than he is, but…I don’t know, it’s just not that weird to me.

The problem I have with Bieber is that he is an egocentric little creep. I don’t care that he looks young, that is besides the point, it is his overall demeanor and act that tuns me off, in addition to him thinking he is as talented as REAL artists out there, which he is not.
No one needs to worry about this “fauxmance”anyway, as it’s expiration date is nearing very soon.

I don’t get the creepy vibe, both look very young. It’s not a massive age gap and if they stay together it will be nothing in a few years time.
When I was 17 a met my first love, he was 13 months younger than me, we went on to date for 3 years and even got engaged.

This seems very normal to me. That said, I would far rather see Selena with a slightly younger man then some “father” type such as Hayden Panatierre seems to date. Maybe Selena herself is immature about the opposite sex, it seems to me that she has probably worked alot and been closely overseen by her parents so that it would be normal to take “baby steps” when finding her first real boyfriend. Hopefully the two of them will be kind to one another so that when the inevitable break-up comes they can remain friends. Selena appears to have a good head on her shoulders. The one thing that makes me go “oh, please” is the PDA’s but they are young and that phase will eventually pass.

Well 1st off i don’t believe much of it is true, but just media exposure to encourage our young teens (girls) to go after younger boys. its a continual attempt to sexualize our children earlier ans earlier. If the stars do it, then it is okay. Well it is not okay and if this were a teacher/student relationship by next year, she would loose her job and suffer many other penalties. Age 14 is under age for any kind of sex (minor) and it should not be encouraged or taken lightly

No, you’re not (since she refers to him as “kid” instead of just plain “boyfriend” and the fact that she aknowledges his young age/appearance makes her look like a “cougar”).

Kstew and Sparkles are 4 years apart (I think she was 19 when their whole thing started). It’s not a big deal.

I can’t believe people think this is going to somehow magically make kids have sex younger. These two are obviously having sex. Who cares? It’s really more creepy to be agonizing over their sex life.
They’re not 14 year olds. They’re not kindergarten kids. They’re teenagers. As if high school kids aren’t having sex as it is. As if kids that age haven’t been having sex for years and years. They will continue having sex at that age for years and years.
If you can’t educate your children to have safe sex, or abstain from it-that’s your problem. If you’re 13 year olds are having sex, you’re the parent- do something about it. I don’t think any kids are going to look at Justin Beiber and say “If he’s having sex, I’m going to have sex too”. I sure as hell wasn’t that easily swayed as a kid.
I held off until I was almost 17, and had been with the same guy since I was 14. I was in love. I still am in love with the same guy, going on 7 years of being in a relationship. Did I look at my ‘role models’ and make decisions based on them? No. So stop obsessing about kids getting knocked up, and maybe try to teach them about how to AVOID getting knocked up in the first place.

When I was her age, my friends and I referred to EVERYONE, regardless of age, as “kid.” We also used “love” to mean anything from I-can-tolerate-this-person-for-more-than-an-hour to actual love.

I’ve dated a few younger guys when I was in high school, and let me tell you, they are absolutely STOKED that a girl who is older than them wants to date them. It really inflates their ego, from my experience.
I don’t find Justin and Selena creepy. She still looks pretty young for her age, and I’d rather her date Justin than date a guy who’s in his late 20s or early 30s.

If I am reading this right, at the time she referred to him as “kid” it was before they were dating; I assume she was using it the way you might use ‘dude’ or ‘guy’…
To me, this is a lot more normal than actresses or singers (eg., Taylor Swift) who at 18 or 19 are dating guys in their late 20′s or 30′s!!

Well, my shameful crush on the Biebs has pretty much gone into hibernation. The new haircut kinda killed it, and add that to the fact that he seems to be starting to believe his own hype and…yeah. Still don’t really blame him, I would defy anyone his age, with his lifestlye, not to get a bit douchey, but things like hanging with Chris Brown just aren’t cool.
However, I like Selena a lot. Never heard any of her music but she comes across remarkably level headed in interviews and she has a very dry sense of humour, which is cool. I think dating her will be good for Biebs, she appears to have her shit together, and the last thing he needs is some clingy gf who elts him do whatever he wants.
And lastly, yeah, it is weird to be obsessing about the relationship between these two. Both of them may look young, but the fact is they’re both old enough to be in a relationship with each other. Is it really shocking that two teenagers may be having sex? Really?

I can’t speak for every place, obviously, but I think the are special legal considerations when one party has passed the age of majority and one hasn’t. Because these kids are so close in age, it would never be an issue because both are over the age of consent, just not majority. If the age difference is a larger one the younger person must still be above the age consent and the older person can only be a certain number of years older than the younger one. If he or she has passed that age threshold it will automatically be statutory rape.
As well, I don’t think Disney would have her making the rounds just so they could brand her as a rapist. But I really don’t know about that company.

Why is it creepy again? Sure as a 31-year old mother, I look at these two and feel slightly old and feel like they should be in kindergarten playing with dolls and action men, but come on, lets be fair. They are 17 and 19. I was in a serious relationship from when I was 16-18 years. We were practically living together and we were in loooove big time. They could well be mature enough for love. I was. So were a lot of people I know.
They are young adults. Lets just accept that and move on.

In Canada sexual consent age is 16. Also, “There exist two close in age exemptions, depending on the age of the younger partner. A youth of twelve or thirteen can consent to sexual activity with an individual less than two years older than them. A fourteen- or fifteen-year-old can consent to sexual activity with a partner who is less than five years older than them” Since the Biebs is Canadian I don’t know if that’s the law that would matter, or in the States where the majority of states have the age of consent at 16, though some are 17 and 18.

Hey, they’re doing what anyone would do. What’s the issue? Young, but not too young to fall for each other, a healthy, normal occurrence. I think people are making too much of this. Just let them enjoy being together. This will change in time because they’re so young. The likeliness of them staying together for years and years is very slim at this age. But I see nothing wrong here.

Roman Polanski wants Selena…Back in the day, the days of TVs black and white days, relationships which started in their teens lasted all life. Why??? Bc back then, more people had real values, and I believe SGomez and JBieber have such values. I hope they last.
