Shia LaBeouf has a drunken hissy fit/meltdown in public in LA

wenn5682608

Shia LaBeouf has issues. We’ve documented those issues from time to time, but it’s always difficult for me to subscribe some nasty motive to Shia – by most accounts, he’s very professional, he’s nice to his fans, and in interviews, he seems intelligent, interesting and humble. Maybe it’s all just an act, or maybe he just turns into a monster when he’s drinking. And he’s a big drinker too – I suspect he’s an alcoholic, and in the years to come, I do see a stint in rehab for him. Anyway, Shia + alcohol = mess, forever and always. This is the latest story, via Life & Style:

Onlookers at an LA party were concerned for Shia LaBeouf last night after the actor exhibited some very strange behavior.

The Transformers star had what one witness tells Life & Style seemed to be “a public meltdown,” spitting water over his date and rocker Marilyn Manson before charging through the crowd to the exit.

At the Aug. 26 (BELVEDERE) RED at The Box party, the witness tells Life & Style, “Shia picked up a water bottle and shot a mouthful of water all over his seated date’s legs.

“Then he put more water in his mouth and started spitting it all over his tablemates, including Marilyn Manson. He seemed wasted.”

But according to the witness, neither his date, his friends nor Marilyn could calm Shia down — even after Marilyn offered a fist bump, as if to say everything was fine.

“People started taking their seats in front of the stage at the event, but all of a sudden Shia started shouting at his date and getting visibly angry,” the eyewitness tells Life & Style. Then he headed for the door. “He lunged through the very thick seated crowd, and the crowd pleaded with him and encouraged him to sit down. They tried to hold him back — but he kept struggling through.”

And the audience at the event got more than just the show it came to see. “Shia had to climb over people and tear himself out of the grasp of various strangers who were trying to keep him from going crazy,” the eyewitness says. “His date panicked and ran out after him. Marilyn looked shocked and annoyed but stayed seated. Shia and the girl did not return.”

“It was so insane — he just had a total meltdown right in front of everyone,” the eyewitness tells Life & Style. “It was completely out of control. He was so angry and physical. He was determined to get out of there.”

[From Life & Style]

So… wait, what? He was blitzed out of his skull, he spit water on his date (“water”), he started yelling at people, and then he wanted to leave and people were holding him back? Why were people holding him back? If a drunk, belligerent jag wants to leave a place, let him. Don’t lay hands on him. That’s a good way to lose a hand.

But yeah… sounds like a d-bag move, and it sounds like he was wasted. What else is there to say?

Here’s a photo of Shia with his confirmed girlfriend Karolyn Pho – I don’t know if Pho was the chick with him at The Box.

I think he’s a good actor but anyone with a name like Shia LaBeowulf would be proned to hissy fits.

  2. Strawberrygirl says:

Weird. I used to watch him on Even Stevens on Disney. I guess none of those kids stand a chance.

    Maybe it was his mom.

    Gross.

  5. the original bellaluna says:

I’m wondering if there isn’t a bit of roid rage going on in the mix.

He doesn’t seem consistently obnoxious (see: Ronnie, Jersey Shore) but it seems like there’s more going on than just the booze.

  6. carrie says:

party with Marilyn Manson and Manson is worried by you ?! so funny

  7. fancyamazon says:

It sounds like there was some sort of disagreement, and he erupted and left. Probably more to the story, although he does seem to come off like a jerk when he’s partying. I do agree that people should not have been holding him back though. If someone wants out of a crowd, for ANY reason, you should let them.

  8. hatekyle says:

Rules of Dating #69: Don’t spit on your date…in public! And not on her legs anyways. Countess Loo-An.

  9. ADS says:

I wasn’t aware he had a nice guy image. What I will say is that he does have a whiff of entitled douche about him. Also, his ridiculous comments about Megan Fox and equating her sticking up for herself as Girl Power shit was beyond foolish and shows to me his mindset about strong women. He looks very bloated and angry recently. Disgusting behavior whether drunk or not to spit at your date or at anyone. He sounds a wreck and should get help if he has alcohol issues or get some manners, if he was just being a prick.

  10. Turtle Dove says:

Good to know that Shia is abusive and a d-bag misogynist. Why is he famous?

Horrible suit. REALLY horrible date. Don’t get what people see in him, either as an actor or a person.

  12. Kendra says:

aw, poor baby. Mommy needs to spank that ass!

  13. Bec says:

I agree- he TOTALLY has an air of entitled douche about him! And he’s ugly! I do not get why he’s famous or even a working actor in the first place. His fame mystifies me. I hope he fades fast and dispappears immediately. With his obnoxious, arrogant attitude and incidents like this, he might fade sooner than later. He’s just gross.

  14. Boxy Lady says:

I don’t think there is a question that he has “alcohol issues.” If you read his interviews from a few years ago, he identifies himself as an alcoholic and I think he was going to AA for awhile. I have had friends like this: family issues; hereditary drug/alcohol abuse; when sober they are sweet, extremely sensitive, and professional in their jobs but when high or drunk, they are the biggest jerks on the planet. And they are well aware that they have a problem but they aren’t doing anything about it.

  15. Flan says:

    Totally agree, ADS!

The stuff he said about Spice Girls and his kiss and tell about Megan Fox about when she was with her husband is extremely douchey.

Never heard anything nice about him either.

The only reason he’s famous is that he licks a certain body part of Michael Bay, who is the only person more of a douche than he is, without insanity to excuse him.

(It does amuse me that Marilyn Manson is somehow involved).

  16. the original bellaluna says:

Bec, he’s a working actor because he was part of the Disney machine. (He played Stanley Yelnats on that Disney show and in the movie “Holes.”) And now, he’s part of the Michael Bay machine. Ugh.

  17. the original bellaluna says:

Frankly, if I was drunk, Marilyn Manson would terrify the ever-loving bejeebers out of me. Even more than he does than when I’m sober.

Or maybe I would engage him in a long, drawn-out, drunken conversation about all those “Clownface” movies; and how my parents had a dog with one blue eye and one brown eye; and did Rose McGowan pic out that paperclip dress, or did he…

  18. Apple says:

maybe it isn’t the booze but maybe Shia is going through some kind of mental break down. He has been dressing really weird lately and doesn’t seem to be taking care of himself at all.

I guess only so many bad movies and multi-million paychecks can send a person over the edge.

  19. mia girl says:

@Kaiser – I have never heard the positive things you said about him (nice to fans, professional, etc.). I am surprised because I honestly thought he was generally regarded to be a douche.

@the original Bellaluna – your roid rage theory seems very plausible.

I’ll add that I thought Shia was the answer to that blind a few weeks back about a superstar’s mom who does not like his current girlfriend. So maybe the girl is bad news. That combined with Shia’s bad attitude AND drinking AND general douchiness seems like a recipe for disaster.

  20. BabyBlue says:

Sorry, but I actually think he has a dual diagnosis – alcoholism and bipolar.

His anger issues definitely adds up to his manic stages…and his quiet, not taking care of himself adds up to his depressive stages.

Something is not right about him and he needs help or he will melt down like Britney did in public and he may not be as fortunate to come back and be successful like her.

  21. Elisha says:

I remember when he was on Matt Damon & Ben Afflek’s Project Greenlight (?) & there was a scene he had to film in where he’s in a hospital visiting his dying father & he & his mother broke down to the point where they were crying. She then revealed Shia’s dad had been an alcoholic. So, it’s sad when people choose to follow in the footsteps of those who caused them so much hurt.

  22. Truthful says:

    @Babyblue, I totally agree.

    he has frequent outbursts.

here come the folks that think he can do no wrong, smdh.

I like his acting but when I think of him, I think of erratic behavior and loose cannon.

  23. Meadowlark says:

@mia girl- Co-sign. I’ve never been under the impression that Shia was a nice guy. A lot of people think he’s a total d-bag and, after watching/reading interviews he’s done, I more than agree. He’s a misogynistic jerk who thinks he’s the coolest guy ever.

That being said, @ BabyBlue, I have ALWAYS thought Shia had bipolar disorder. I remember watching some behind-the-scenes thing for his old show “Even Stevens” on Disney and he was even more erratic and speed-talky than his character. I have it, myself, and while my manic episodes turn me into an elated busy-body who wants to quit my job and move to France, I think Shia’s manic episodes are angry ones. Dangerous. We could be wrong but, I agree, something might be up with him mental health-wise.

  24. lolab says:

He’s a kid with a really dysfunctional upbringing who gained fame and entitlement very early on in his life. It makes for a bad mixture, because anger issues accompanied with entitlement issues makes for a very strong strain of doucheness.

He’s a talented kid, he’s cute, but he just seems like he’s always two steps away from a meltdown. I say he’s got addiction issues too, and really goes off the handle when he’s off the wagon.

  25. lrm says:

I personally get the feeling he is one of the impacted ones re: Corey Feldman’s story about hollywod and child stars….
I don’t get the feeling it’s just delusional entitlement, and i agree, it is more akin to brittney spears—mentally not stable, and possible abuse somewhere in the background -my feeling is that it’s related to handlers or other power people in hollywood.

It does seem like early to mid twenties is when full on adddiction or meltdown occurs with the child stars….demons comme to haunt them.

  26. lolab says:

ps: He is NOT nice to fans, especially if there’s no camera to document it, kaiser. I was at a hamburger hamlet about two years ago when he was in there with another man. He was loud, recounting something or another, using profanity throughout, even though this is a family joint overall. So, he’s obviously not opposed to being noticed. And so when someone ACTUALLY took the bait, noticed him, and approached him with two kids who asked for his autograph, h e said “later” very dismissively. They go back to their table and wait, even though they are finished now. He continueds on with his lunch, loudly, and then when he leaves, walks right past their table, not giving them an autograph. All he needed to say was “no” and they could have moved along. shaking my head, no need to treat little kids like shit like that.

  27. rowena says:

Everyone needs to stop coddling him, making excuses for his behavior(it’s the alcohol! it’s the drugs! it’s the mental illness!).

Those very well may be problems, but all they are doing is MAGNIFYING the problem, they AREN’T the problem.

    This guy has a history of being an abusive boyfriend;

He’s a grade A ahole people, a charismatic one, but an ahole nonetheless. And you can’t blame his anger issues that are directed almost EXCLUSIVELY towards women on anything else.

  28. sarahb says:

I find it so interesting how much we let male stars get away with, yet we are so hard on female celebrities. People were ready to crucify megan fox for being generally dumb, kristen stewart for being generally cranky, january jones for being generally bitchy. And yet you have a guy spitting water on his gf in public-what do you imagine happens behind closed doors if he’s comfy enough to do that in front of a crowd.

And yet we find ways to understand and exonerate him. I don’t care if his mommy and daddy sucked, he is very lucky to have the means to change his ways. If he can’t handle himself in public, and he’s proven he can’t time and time again, then stay the hell out of public. Don’t go to clubs. Don’t drive-ever. Eat at home. And try not to abuse your gf further, jackhole.

  29. normades says:

    Word what ADS said

  30. Leni says:

Ugly abusive douchebag. I don’t understand why people are forever justifying and making excuses for his awful behaviour.

  31. labikina says:

No one is justifying his behavior, Leni. I think people who have read some interviews and know more about Shia are just bringing up his family history, which includes problems with alcohol and mental illness. His father let his family practically starve while he was a clown. They lived like homeless people when he was little. I think he needs help. I’ve known people close to me who had really screwed up childhoods and have serious anger problems because of it. They can get better.

  32. Ally says:

    (“water”)

    LOL

I love punctuation comedy. The tone is so clear! Nice.

  33. roli says:

If he’s spitting “water” on her in public, he’s doing things much worse in private. That’s the reality.

At this point, I think it’s clear he is choosing not to manage his demons very well.

As a result, people should be worrying more about his gf than him.

  34. Andie B says:

This guy is what we in my country call a tosser. Hopefully he addresses his mental health issues before he alienates himself from everyone who cares and ends up in the 27 club.

  35. malia says:

The only reason he has a career in Hollywood is because Steven Spielberg is the one who is hiring him time and again. Transformers, Suburbia, Indiana Jones, Eagle Eye? All of them are Spielberg productions. People keep saying he’s the top young male money maker, as in he is the draw, but I tend to think it’s more that SS makes the blockbusters, and SLB benefits. I think he’s a good enough actor, he’s relatable and guys like him, but he’s getting a lot of chances in part because he’s got heavyweights in his corner.

  36. Mouse says:

He’s talented, but it doesn’t sound like the Hollywood lifestyle is agreeing with him. Time for a move and a career change.

  37. Incredulous says:

To be fair, if I was present for that situation, I’d most likely assume Shia had a moment of clarity and realized that he was drunk as shit and about to throw up so I’d see if I could get people out of the way so he could vomit somewhere less public. And, well, not on somebody.

  38. Amanda says:

What is he like 24 years old? And he’s already an alcoholic?

  39. Boxy Lady says:

@Amanda Age doesn’t have anything to do with it. One of my best friends in high school was already an alcoholic when we were 15. (Even had a beer gut!)And I have another friend whose mom didn’t start to drink heavily until her 50s. It can become a problem at any stage of life, if you let it.

  40. Lindy says:

Oh man, oh man. Not surprised one tiny bit. Sure, there may be some mental illness, probably substance abuse as well. But this guy has come across badly every single time I’ve ever read any interview with him. It’s clear that he thinks he’s the best thing going. In fact, he’s a sub-par talent and an unattractive one at that. I hope this is the beginning of the end of his 15 minutes.

  41. neelyo says:

I’ve loathed him since watching the Project Greenlight season where he was featured. Even at that age, 15 or so, he was a jerk to his fellow actors (especially Amy Smart), unnaturally close to his mother and had a very high opinion of himself. And from what I saw of him filming the actual movie (can’t remember the title), he sucked as an actor. I never thought he’d become a star of this level. And it sounds like it won’t last long.

  42. shay kay says:

Just hope he gets some help before he really hurts himself or someone else. Humiliation isn’t pleasant but there are much worse outcomes for himself and his friends if his alcohol abuse/mental issues/whatever continue unchecked.
Hope he’s really embarrassed and forced to help himself. If not his GF needs to move on, she can’t “save” him from himself. At best she will harm her own health/well-being slowing down his descent.

  43. Annie says:

Seems like this guy has a WELL documented history of alcohol abuse and needs professional help. Re his swell personality, remember that with alcoholics “alcohol is but a symptom” (AA Big Book) of other major emotional problems!

  44. Jandy says:

Shia is definitely talented. You can’t be in as may big movies as he is and not have talent.
BUT…that doesn’t excuse bad behavior. If anything, being a public figure means you should be EXTRA good…i.e. Johnny Depp, George Clooney, etc.
As for the way he treated his girlfriend…shame on HER if she puts up with it. That’s just foolishness…and dangerous…on her part.

  45. Alexus says:

Umm.. I love Shia!! Like he doesn’t fake anything not even for the cameras and this is not is first time flipping out, that’s just the way he is. Maybe something bad happened that sat him off, it wouldn’t have been so bad if people weren’t holding him back. If he wants to go let him go, he’s a grown ass man..
lol..Anyways but I do have a problem with what he did, spitting water on people isn’t cute AT ALL,, they should have spit it back to see what he would have done…lol

  46. smh says:

ughhh hate this idiot. he has no talent, no good looks, no character whatsoever. he just knew the right people to make it in a business where so many are struggling though they’re probably better than him in all three departments. he was one of the main reasons why the last indiana jones movies sucked too: at least he admitted it. is this what you envision as the son of harrison ford, one of the most handsome actors of all time? i hope this guy fades away soon and this new bad boy image can’t save him probably
