Is Nicole Richie planning on adopting an orphan?

If you believe Star – which is an often dubious source – Nicole Richie has made a near-complete turnaround since becoming a mother. The star (I’m not sure what else to describe her as since she doesn’t really have a career or talent) founded the Richie Madden Foundation with boyfriend Joel Madden before the birth of their daughter Harlow. And though I think most people assumed it was just to get some positive pre-parenthood PR, Nicole has remained consistently active with the children’s charity.

According to Star Nicole has been spending a lot of time at shelters for homeless children and has been so touched by the experience that she’s seriously considering adopting a child.

Is Nicole Richie adopting a little brother or sister for 9-month-old Harlow?

The 27-year-old reformed badass has been inspired to adopt an underprivileged orphan after working with numerous low-income families through her charity organization, the Richie Madden Foundation.

According to a Star Magazine scoop, Nicole is “seriously looking into it and asking a lot of questions about adopting.”

“Nicole has been visiting Beyond Shelter in L.A two or three times a week and spends a couple of hours with homeless children. She loves being around them.”

But Nic is going to have to do some serious convincing if she hopes to boyfriend Joel Madden on board with her Angelina-esque plans.

“I don’t know how keen her boyfriend is on the idea. Still Nicole is determined.”

[From PopCrunch]

If Nicole really is thinking about adoption, it’s probably better to wait for a while. She hasn’t been a mother to one child for all that long, and as admirable as the impulse might be, it’s would probably make more sense to wait until her life is settled down and she’s no longer caring for a newborn.

There are lots of other ways to support needy children – many of which it sounds like the foundation is already doing. Waiting a year or two would probably be the best option. It’s not like adopting a puppy – it’s a lifelong decision that you can’t take back. Continuing to do good things and think about the needs of the less fortunate is a great way to help out and grow as a person while she has some time to think about her decision.

    God she’s a bore

Ah, orphans the latest ‘must have’ celebrity fashion accessory. 👿

  3. sam says:

are you guys seriously angry at her for adopting an orphan?!

  4. natasha says:

    I think Nicole was adopted.

  5. Kaiser says:

It sounds like she’s looking into adopting an American orphan. Which takes longer, doesn’t it? If she’s serious, it could be a year or more before the adoption goes through…

  6. Ana' says says:

Well, she was adopted so that might be a motivating factor. If the intent behind it is sincere, I’m all for it but I gotta ask, does this girl have a job or is she just a trust fund recipient? Just wondering how she can afford the lifestyle.

I just don’t know if another child so early after the first one is a good idea. She never looks happy anymore. A second child won’t change it.

Is it just me or is Nicole dropping too much weight again?
And yes, she was adopted. She’s the biological neice of Sheila E.

When it appears to be given as much forethought as buying a Prada bag- yes.

  10. Layne says:

She’s just “thinking” about it so she is giving a lot of thought to it. She doesn’t say when either.

Can you read Nicole’s mind? Can you please tell me how you know exactly how much fore-thought nicole has put into adopting a child? Have you spoken with her? Do you even KNOW her? (Knowing OF someone thru the media does not count, sorry).

I think its great Nicole might want to adopt – if its true. She was adopted herself so it makes sense that she might want to. She’s defintely turning over a new leaf, so why bitch about it? She’s no longer the “waste of oxygen” some pppl used to call her.

And who cares if she has a job or she’s living off a trust fund? If you had more than millions in the bank would you work, or retire? I’m sure that Nicole got a considerable amount of money from the Simple Life, her books, promotions, music videos, public appearances etc, its not as if she has never done ANYTHING. And Joel works, has a rather high paying income, she’s a new mother, lots of new mothers don’t work when their babies are young & they rely on their husbands for income… nothing to gossip about there.

Lindseey, find a dictionary and look up the word “sarcasm”, thusly enlightened proceed thence to locating the definition of “humor”. A lot of what I write that sounds so scathing is tongue-in-cheek, with a smirk and wink. An attempt to point out a few flaws and poke fun at the hubris of celebrities of all stripes. Sometimes I go to exaggerated extremes to make my point because it seems these days you can’t lightly prod people, you have to hit them with a sledgehammer to get their attention.

I don’t need to read anyone’s mind to understand what appears to clearly be a trend of adopting kids that’s been long, long overdue by the rich and privileged. Regardless of their actual sincerity, it still strikes me as artificial, like a bunch of people hopping on the bandwagon because someone higher up the celebrity food-chain has done it, and when the trend reaches its pre-conceived conclusion they’ll move on to something else like adopting endangered species or whatever.

My questions are: Why have these people waited for so long and now why all of a sudden does it appear that everyone is falling all over themselves to adopt. They’ve had the financial means for years, but now they have the spotlight on it. So which is more important ?

    Good for Nicole.

  14. Jenna says:

I just hope if she does confirm that she is adopting, people won’t start debating on if it will be a child from the states or somewhere else. And by that I mean saying Nicole is horrible for choosing a child outside of the states.

But from what was written I’m going to assume it’ll be from the states.

She’s always such an unhappy looking young woman.
