Have you ever watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith and wondered to yourself, “Gee, what would this film be like if there was a lot more homoeroticism and the female lead was the stereotypical airhead?” Thus, This Means War. It’s the film that Reese Witherspoon did with Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. Chelsea Handler is in it too, as Reese’s BFF. This is all part of Chelsea’s big plan to branch out into more film and television work as a real actress or something. And the only time I laughed during the trailer is when Chris Pine calls her “an old man”.
Does anyone else think the film is going to be hampered by the fact that Tom Hardy and Chris Pine are unevenly matched in sex appeal? Pine is okay as far as looks go, but when Tom Hardy whips out the accent and the big guns (so to speak), there really is no contest. I can’t imagine that this would be a reasonable contest for any sane woman.
As for Reese… I know why she took this role, but I’m still disappointed in her. It looks like she’s just the one-note “love interest,” a blank-slate used to react against the men’s foibles and actions. But she took it because it’s a big part in a big movie and she got a big paycheck, and because she’s a bigger “name” than either of the dudes. But the role looks like it could have easily been filled with a lesser actress. I’m disappointed because I expect more from Reese.
As for Chelsea, she’s the reason I won’t be seeing this film. It’s bad enough trying to watch her be a “comedienne” but trying to watch her be an “actress” is just awful. And how funny is it that she got “the Vince Vaughn role” in a budget one-off of Mr. & Mrs. Smith?

Perfect description of this movie. They could have had any actress in the ditzy girlfriend role, since really it’s about the boys. And they are the only reason I would see this movie at the $1 theater. Alas, since those are nil in my neck of the woods, I’ll have to wait for this to come out on DVD.

This is one movie I will happily not be attending. CH make LL still look young and pretty. Yuk just Yuk. There is only one movie I’ve seen that I really like Witherspoon in and that was Election. And Handler is simply too gross for words, see what too much booze and sex will do to a person? See! Just say NO to this garbage and I wonder who Handler blew this time to get into the movie in the first place?

Weird,just weird. Handler hangs out with Witherspoon and Anniston (good girl “blondes”) to look less like a bitch and they hang with her to get more of an “edge” and not be good girls or at least seem like it. A mighty high price to pay I would say. Oh and Handler can’t act and no amount of hanging with “good girls” will wipe the nastiness from her.

I’ll pass on this movie even though Tom Hardy is in it. Chris Pine does nothing for me, Reese has zero sex appeal and is too soccer mom for this role and Chelsea Handler is just a major turn off in any capacity. Sorry, not interested at all in this movie.

ok this movie looks really dumb and i had high hopes for it. the plot gimmick just sounds 1000x worse than mr. and mrs. smith. speaking of which, in my continuing campaign of pairing angie with every hot talented actor: tom hardy + angie. in an action-adventure. kicking ass together.
tom hardy was so hot during the shoot for this, before he bulked up for batman and shaved his head. i agree with you, kaiser. i wish the grating chelsea handler wasn’t in this, but i’ll still see it for captain kirk and eames.

I think Chelsea Handler is sexier than Tom Hardy. But they both skeeve me out big BIG time.
However I’m a trekkie and predisposed to like Pine (he’s Kirk) & dislike Hardy (he costarred in the worst Star Trek movie) so I’m hardly impartial.

And the last Reese Witherspoon I paid to see was Pleasantville. And even then, William H. Macy, Joan Allen and Don Knotts were the reasons I bought a ticket.

First of all, why rip off Mr. & Mrs. Smith? I loved it and all, but I only loved it because Brad and Angelina were the leads and they brought out something in each other. I’m familiar with Chris Pine, not so much the Hardy dude, but this is just testosterone-driven fluff. Second, why am I hearing Michael Bluth saying ‘Her?’ when Reese descended down the stairs? Why would these dudes fight over her? And finally… Handler. Not an Eve Arden or Una Merkel, is she? She’s just a hatchet-faced, loud-mouthed b*tch, not a savvy, knowing best friend who will tell you the damn truth, despite liking/loving her best friend.

I said it before. She wants so bad to be the people she ragged on. Which is why she doesn’t rag on certain actors/actresses. She wants to be a Star.. on the big screen.
I guess that TV show she was plugging didn’t work. GOOD because I was not going to watch anything she is ever in. And her SHOW is the kiss of death for movies. Every person that does her show has a BOMB at the BO..

It is a shame that Handler is in this because it looks like one of those mindless, silly/fun movies to watch after a hard day. Handler being in it puts me off. I may give it a go for Tom Hardy and Reese though..
