Karl Lagerfeld: Adele is “a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face”

Oh, Karl. I was all prepared to get super-mad at him for some unfortunate things he said about Adele, but once I read his full quote… I still love the old Anger-Bear. I actually think the Kaiser (the original Kaiser) is getting a little bit softer. Yes, he says that Adele is “a little too fat” but he cushions it with “she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.” Does that make it better? Does “a little too fat” even count as an insult when it comes from Karl Lagerfeld? Do I have to be outraged on Adele’s behalf when I think that FOR KARL, he was offering a very sincere compliment?

Anyway, enjoy this new interview with Karl – it’s wonderful. He loves Michelle Obama, he thinks Russian women are beautiful and he actually says this wonderful line – “People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women.” PERFECTION.

Karl on the Queen’s Jubilee: I think [Queen Elizabeth] looks very good in her recent photos even better than a few years ago – beautiful, a bit like Queen Mary. She looks a little bit like her grandmother – a more smiley version. In terms of what she wears, she’s come into herself a little bit more – whatever that is.

Karl on the relevance of the monarchy: It’s good for the tourists because it brings a lot of money in. It’s totally unnecessary, but it’s pleasant. Why not have the monarchy? People can dream about it.

Karl on the Greek economic crisis: Greece needs to work on a cleaner image. It’s a big problem, as [Greeks] have this reputation of being so corrupt. You can’t be sure the money will go where it’s supposed to go. They need to build trust, and that takes time too. Nobody wants Greece to disappear, but they have really disgusting habits – Italy as well.

Karl on Syria: Some people say it will be worse if [President Assad] goes. It’s very difficult now to say. What he does is beyond awful. I think the man is frightening.

Karl on Lana del Rey: I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.

Karl on women in Russia: If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell’s boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men.

Karl on M.I.A. and her middle finger: Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly – it’s not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what’s new about that? It’s just become a bad habit. People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women.

Karl on Barack Obama’s claim that he “deserves” to be re-elected: Yes he does, especially because of Mrs. Obama. I’m a big fan of Mrs. Obama – and her face, I think, is magical. He would not be there without her. Mrs. Obama is not a fashion statement, but she has other things to do. My favorite thing about Mrs Obama was when she was asked if her skirt was not too tight and she answered “Wh,y you don’t like my big black ass?” I want [Barack] Obama to win because there is nothing better anyway, and especially because of her.

Karl on voting: I never voted in my life. I will never vote. I know too much about politics from what’s going on backstage. To vote you have to believe all that garbage that they promise you, and they can’t keep those promises. If someone gave me an Obama pin, I would just put it on.

Karl on sustainable fashion: I don’t know what you consider as sustainable fashion. Do it, but don’t make a subject out of it. It’s a little bit boring.

Karl on political correctness: Be politically correct, but don’t become a bore for that. People should be sensitive in these matters, but not make so much noise. Be politically correct, but do we have to know your opinion?

[From Metro]

I have to wonder if his comments about M.I.A.’s one-finger salute aren’t also about his recent encounter with Kristen Stewart – she was photographed flipping the bird in front of Karl“Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly – it’s not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what’s new about that? It’s just become a bad habit.” That’s Karl’s way of telling K-Stew and M.I.A. to sit down and STFU.

But seriously, doesn’t he sound nicer in this interview? What’s going on with him lately? Did he steal the soul of optimistic youth?

Well Adele is fat. That’s reality.

    • Jacenta says:

      Word.

    • moopsie says:

      a little too fat…for what?

      • Jean Harlow says:

        she’s TOO fat period.

She needs to lose weight and set an example. Her double chin and rolls are not cute.

        WEIGHT WATCHERS IS CALLING!

      • Sophie says:

She’s clinically obese. She’s a little too fat for her health. And she does indeed have a lovely face and a stunning voice.

      • JudyJudyJudy says:

too fat to fit into his clothes.

      • kazoo says:

        TOO FAT FOR LIFE.

        Jk, jk.

Karl is a unicorn. If you look at him as one, he’s funny.

Oh, and is Kristen Stewart on drugs? She looks like she’s on someting in that picture.

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Agreed; she is a little heavy, with a beautiful face and divine voice. I would say that is a fairly accurate depiction.

And he is a little white-haired b*tch with great taste and experience.

    • P says:

What about the “Is she a construct with all her implants?”. Now that was an amazing quote.

    • mel says:

Is it debatable that she is overweight? Agreed with just about everything he said…and he was polite.

      • almond says:

You cannot honestly say that it is debatable whether she is fat or not. She is definitely fat. It doesn’t have to be such a huge insult. It would simply be healthier for any person who is overweight to lose a few pounds. And let me do a preemptive strike and say that she should lose very little; enough to reach a more comfortable weight. I don’t think anyone wants to see her as a waif. But don’t employ the delusion that she is not fat. Puh-lease.

    • constance says:

I think for once, CBear handled it very gently. He must admire something about her.

I would imagine, knowing some of his “thoughts/quotes” from the past, he could have been totally rude and vicious.

  2. themma says:

When I read the comment about Karl’s flipping the bird comment and people in magazines being bimbos I immediately thought of KStew. I don’t know how to feel about him insulting her like that.

    • Cleo says:

Let’s all join her in giving HIM the finger. He blows. And he pays for it.

    • originalone says:

You put a microphone in his face, Karl Lagerfeld will talk. He will share with you all his point of views, no matter what is considered “politically correct”.

And his point of views are coming from one that DOES NOT live a regular-folks’ life. He has an entourage, he lives in chateaux, he travels the world, he is a very old sugar daddy to his very young Baptiste, and is always surrounded by narcissistic people and models. His clientèle is mostly men and women that do not blink when buying a 140k dress. Yes, he regularly sells ballgown dresses that go for more than 100K.

If you don’t want to listen to someone coming from that kind of environment, JUST STOP PUTTING A MICROPHONE UNDER HIS NOSE. And if you do, well don’t cry at his some-time outrageous and disconnected comments.

  3. LukeThatBoy says:

LMAO I love Uncle Karl 😀 He wasn’t even insulting, it isn’t really even possible to take it as an insult because Adele is a little overweight… not shading her though coz i think she’s gorgeous, if i was straight i’d love a girl with her personality and yes her face is beautiful.

    • Tapioca says:

      THIS^^

If people like K**ty Karl and Anna “Nuclear” Wintour didn’t exist we’d have to invent them for our entertainment – and at least he’s an equal opportunities bitch, because he doesn’t like anyone!

    • paola says:

If i was Adele i’d be flattered by the fact karl Lagerfeld even knows my name!
And he’s such an icon in the fashion industry that he probably can’t focus on anything else but style, shape and size. Adele is a singer, she doesn’t need a slim body to be a better singer, she shouldn’t be offended really, i think if karl Lagerfeld could look at all of us i’m sure he would say the 99% of us lot is ‘fat’!!!
‘People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women.’ this quote is soooo true!

  4. Kunty lives on!
He seems to have mellowed out.. He must be finally be getting some.. Tim Gunn take note..
He’s comment about Russians is so true

    • Agnes says:

That’s EXACTLY what crossed my mind – that Kunty is getting some on a regular basis. Haha.

  5. Vanden says:

I know what you mean! I was prepared to get annoyed when i read the title but reading the whole thing… what can I say? the guy’s a legend.

on the monarchy “It’s totally unnecessary, but it’s pleasant” being British i wholeheartedly agree! though my interest really ends with the queen, couldn’t care less about the rest of them.

    • NaomiCampbellsPhone says:

I’m a Kiwi and I agree. She really is pointless to us way over on the other side of the world, but I still like her for some reason. When she kicks the bucket and we have to somehow fit Charles and his ears on our coins, then my opinion will probably change.

  6. seVen says:

This guy needs to be shot or something. Yeah so what Adele is chubby, shes got an amazing voice. Nice to know the world would see whats on the outside instead of a true talented inside.

  7. Amy says:

I am going to go with Karl’s comment about Adele as observation, not slammage. I do not mind fat and hate that it has become a dirty word. The only reason I ever worry about family and friends who are carrying around too much weight is that it can be hard on their joints.

Fat is okay. Mean, on the other hand? Mean is a problem.

  8. magda says:

he is wonderful 🙂 ‘construct with all her implants’, ;D

  9. Mimi says:

Ouch on the Greece & Italy comments. I love how he pontificates on other’s “disgusting” habits or people’s lack of good behavior. Take a look in the mirror, Karl…

    • beclove says:

      Right on.

    • mememe says:

True, but I am Greek and I was not offended 🙂 Stereotypes exist for every country. Some are real in some extend, for some people, and some are just silly. But I enjoy Karl’s bitchiness and lack of politicaly correctness!

      • Cleo says:

mmhm, the cradles of civilization – yeah, what filthy animals – they really need the Visigoths to sort them out.

    • paola says:

I’m italian and i totally agree!
but hey, he’s german… they have flaws too!

  10. Agnes says:

Omg. Karl is going soft on us! Hahaha.

  11. Monkey Jim says:

Why is anyone analyzing his comments when he’s as mad as a goose? He be properly craycray! And you just had to make a dig at my beloved KStew of course. Bad times.

  12. Ms. Candy says:

Well, She does have a beautiful face but she is on the heavy side. It is what it is-
He wasn’t being mean this time but stating the obvious on her.

    • orion70 says:

How come he didn’t mention LDR’s face full of fillers then?

To me the fat comment makes her sound one dimensional. Like that’s all she is. And oh, btw, she has a nice voice.

  13. Moi says:

Karl is skinny and a lot ugly.

    • kibbles says:

Exactly. When I read this I was thinking, well, Karl is a little too skinny and has an ugly face. People in glass houses…

  14. Memory27 says:

He’s right but with a face a voice and talent like that who gives a fuck. His taste in women are skinny dumb and talentless like Lilo, K-Stewart and Blake so coming from him is whatevs.

    • kibbles says:

He was quoted saying he uses call girls and likes p0rn stars. So naturally he is friends with Lilo and Blake. Adele is too good for him.

    • Erinn says:

I feel like that’s what he meant though. Like she’s a bit heavy but she’s got a pretty face and an amazing voice so who cares.

  15. hillbilly in the corner says:

Wonder how I can give good old Karl a middle finger here…..!!!!

  16. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Russian men are ugly, Greeks and Italians have disgusting habits, Greeks are also corrupt and Adele if fat.

“Did he steal the soul of optimistic youth?”

    I’m going with no.

    • Asli says:

HAHAHAHAHAH. I agree 😀 He was still being an ass he just made it sound good. The old: Insult then compliment-tactic.

      • MacScore says:

Ha ha ha! too right! He is a complete dick, that much is obvious – he was recently asked what he thought about vacations, and he replied, “Urlaub ist für Angestellte” – which basically is a completely insulting way of saying that only people who punch a time clock take “vacations”, whereas he, the Great Karl, inhabits a much higher stratosphere of creativity where such proletariat concerns are irrelevant. Fuck him.
But – on the other hand – he’s so wacked that he’s actually almost funny. Almost.

      • Asli says:

Hahahahahha, yeah. I can see he’s trying to be sympathic but he just can’t help himself. It’s in-grained in his personality to insult. LOL! Poor Karl, at least he (sort of) tried. He’s still a narcissistic ass, though.

  17. Beatrice says:

    I love this guy!!

  18. HA! says:

Carl: you are a little too wrinkled…and have nothing beautiful to compensate for it. Yet Adele ain’t saying anythign about you, dude.
That line is so stupidly common: you’re fat, but you have a pretty face…
whatever, why do some men think they are entitled to talk about a woman’s weight? so biased!

  19. .D. says:

I’m seriously considering putting together one of those motivational calendars that provide you with an inspirational quote every day. Except instead of the sappy, New Age nonsense you usually see, mine will contain the wisdom of Karl Lagerfeld.

Here’s some of my February quotes. Take notes, ladies:

    2/8/12:

“I cannot go on airlines because people stare at me, you have to be touched by people. I hate bespoke because I hate to be touched by strangers. It bores me to death.”

    2/9/12:
“I don’t need meetings. I’m only interested in my own opinion anyway.”

    2/10/12:
“I avoid thinking. I want to have an easy life without problems.”

    2/11/12:
“I hate all children. Other people’s are fine. But not for me. I have never felt the need to be part of a family unit. Imagine if I had a child and he was mediocre. I would hate that. Then again, if he was better than me I might hate that too.”

    2/12/12:
“I have no problem with journalists, unless they are really stupid, or if they’ve got bad breath, or if they smell. Yesterday, I had a problem [after the Chanel couture show]. I said, ‘I’m sorry, you’ve got to tell this woman that she needs to be taken away. Her smell is not possible.”

    2/13/12:
“I am basically the most superficial person in the world.”

(Note: These are actual quotes, not a parody. Karl Lagerfeld is already a parody of Karl Lagerfeld)

    • Bubbling says:

      omg! I die, I die!that’s priceless!

    • Leticia says:

LOVE THIS! Thank you for making my month of February!

    • Shay Kay says:

      Thanks .D.!
      “I avoid thinking” lmao
His ramblings don’t “inspire” me to be a better person but I feel a hell of a lot better knowing I’m already a better person than him! Maybe you can market the calendar as “A way to greet your day that will bring a smile, a laugh, and the knowledge that you are already a better person than Karl Lagerfeld!”

    • Leticia says:

“I’m very much down to earth, just not this earth.” Karl L.

    • Perry Rhinitis says:

ROFL I’d buy a calendar like that! 😀

    • Day says:

“I’m sorry, you’ve got to tell this woman that she needs to be taken away. Her smell is not possible.”

      DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, when did MO say this, “Wh,y you don’t like my big black ass?” lol.

    • kazoo says:

“I said, ‘I’m sorry, you’ve got to tell this woman that she needs to be taken away. Her smell is not possible.”

LMFAO “her smell is not possible.”

Dude, if you’d make that calendar, I’d totally buy.

  20. Shelly says:

…..and you are an old bag with a hideous face. Can’t stand him.

  21. Pam says:

LOL The only reason why I clicked into this post was because I just knew that Kaiser would make a Kristen mention about the bird-flipping comment. Thanks for not proving me wrong about your obsession with Kristen!

  22. Susie says:

Oh Kaiser, Kristen will never be able to live down that bird-flipping to you huh?

  23. hateonit. says:

she’s a singer. not a model. her weight shouldn’t be a concern to anyone who is a true music fan. her face and voice easily compemsate for whatever ideal body time she apparently “should have.” the rest of the comments are useless. he’s some old man who hangs around Kristen stewart oh that just makes him wonderful doesn’t it? nope. not in my book.

  24. Bubbling says:

But what he said is the truth! It’s not the nicest way yo put it, but he is non apologetic and has been for ever. It’s not like saying mean things just for the sake of playing diva, when no body even asked him that in first place (yes Joan Kolins, I’m thinking of you)

    • Euphorima says:

Agreed….. and why is it so insulting to call somebody fat, especially if that person is in fact on the heavy side? I just dont get the insult in that.

I sooooo love Adele and her music is great!!! Being skinny or fat does not define who anybody is anyways.

Somebody please tell me why it is such an insult to say somebody is fat and is it equally insulting to call somebody skinny?

      • lw says:

Agreed. It isn’t an insult to call someone fat who is fat. (And this is coming from a fat woman) The insult only comes when we are stereotyped as lazy, ugly, smelly, unkempt, wildly unhealty, non-sexual, depressed, etc…. Fatties know we are fat. Adele knows perfectly well that she is fat. But she is also beautiful, mega talented, and presumably living her dream. Why should she care who points out the obvious?

      • Pia says:

Right? Ridiculing someone is not the same thing as pointing out the obvious. Though, I understand that some people are extremely sensitive about their weight and will take any amount of acknowledgement of their size as offensive. One very frustrating example of this that I experienced was with a friend I was taking a group horse back riding class with. She was the heaviest girl in the group, so the instructor put her on the largest horse who was “best suited to carry her weight” and gave her the largest saddle “for those riders with a little extra padding” as the instructor put it. In hindsight, I do feel the comments were unnecessary, but they were not meant to be anything but the truth. Every other person in the class was matched up by size and weight, so she was not being singled out. The next day my friend and her equally large boyfriend were ranting about how “insensitive and unprofessional” this lady was, so I pointed out that it was a shame that she was going to let that get in the way of gaining some very valuable knowledge with such a qualified person. Well, that was it, I was a terrible person and the friendship was over for almost a year… I thought it was silly and maybe I should have kept my mouth shut, but I apologized and that was all I could do. Water under the bridge now, and they are engaged and losing weight together so good for them 🙂

      • Remote Control says:

You honestly don’t think it’s insulting to call someone fat? what about ugly?

  25. author says:

Oh I’m sorry Karl not everyone wants to lose weight the Lagerfeld way “diet coke and coke” Adele is fine the way she is big or thin it doesn’t matter. She’s not selling an image her voice does the job. Furthermore I hate it when celebrities talk about politics and yet don’t vote. Hey walking contradiction! How ya doing!

  26. spinner says:

I love Karl. He is unapologetic & basically honest about what he thinks. It’s how people used to be until they turned into…something else.

  27. Tazina says:

It is the truth and she would be stunning if she were thinner, but it was still rude. Why tell people something they are very aware of? More importantly is that she is still smoking and it’s bad for her throat.

    • hateonit. says:

i disagree on that comment. I believe she wouldnt be as stunning if she was thinner. her face is full with beautiful features. big beautiful eyes a nice nose and beautiful shaped lips. I feel like they would only go with her face she has now. not all people look better with weight loss. look at Leann rimes. she was not that bad looking before. now she lost all this weight her features are distorted. besides. like I said. she’s a singer. not a model. all that is required of her is to sing which she does very well.

  28. Leticia says:

    I adore Karl.

And I agree with him regarding flipping the bird. The gesture has become repetitive and boring and has lost impact. But gang signs still intimidate, so people should start flashing gang signs and stop flipping the middle finger. (joking).

  29. dorothy says:

At least she looks like the living and not night of the living dead.

  30. lucy2 says:

I’m so glad we know Karl Lagerfeld’s opinions on Greece, Syria, and the upcoming US election. Life can now go on.

    • T.C. says:

I know, like WTF? Why is anyone asking a fashion guy about world matters? And what’s up with his dig about Russian men? “If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell’s boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men.”

  31. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

Goopy and Posh may be skinny and good at colonics and cleanses & such but Adele is talented and beautiful.

  32. Suzy (from Ontario, Canada) says:

Yeah, cuz he’s not creepy and weird looking at all! He probably he thinks that 84 lb. Romanian model with the teeny waist is just right (or maybe he thinks even she needs to lose a few ounces).

He’s part of the problem in society with women starving themselves to look like 14 year old boys – shapeless and bones sticking out all over. He makes me sick with his stupid comments. Talk about shallow and rude.

    • MST says:

I agree. I think this guy is an old creep and a weirdo. And I’m not being homophobic, but why do gay men get a pass on saying mean things about women, but if a straight guy said the same things, he’d be lambasted?

  33. Ha says:

    Love him.

  34. Lia says:

This, coming from a ridiculous Dracula wannabe…… His sycophants are doing an excellent job.

  35. Littledargling@gmail.com says:

You’ve gotta love (and hate at times) a straight shooter.

Karl is the quintessential bitch, the one who says whatever is on his mind without apologies.

Unlike Kelly Osbourne, who seems to vomit nastiness as truth, Karl is just a bitchy old man. Offensive to some, but honestly, I think he’s a riot. Like any crotchety old person, he’s set in his ways, and his marks are usually kind of spot on. I like that.

    • Nanea says:

Yeah, and unlike Kelly O, Karl has been successful at what he does for decades. And he’s on the wrong side of 75, so it’s OK for him to have quite strong opinions.

  36. NM6804 says:

She’s a bit overweight yes but he’s also pointing out the good things. I don’t know why we should always be blind to people we like but have a bit of overweight but can harp on skinny people all the time. Why? Is fat supposed to be endearing? Do people take those comments personally because the majority of people are in fact overweight? Whatever, love Adele, fat and all :).

Lagerfeld is quite nice in this interview. Definitely softer and more deep than usual. Is he sick?

    • Erinn says:

That’s what I was thinking. I think that his comments hit home with a lot of people. I’m overweight too- but I didn’t find it offensive. Everyone on here is always saying whichever celeb should eat a sandwich because they’re so thin. But when it’s someone who’s larger they get up in arms about it.

      • Beatrix says:

I agree with this. Most of the comments here malign those who are thin (who may or may not be too thin) but if anyone says anything at all to highlight ChrisHendricks or Adele suddenly they have to hit the brakes. Doesn’t make sense.

  37. Pam says:

Well you’d expect him to say that. Working in a world of ematiation anyone above a size 6 would be fat! Dr Oz preaches against being overweight too but at least he’s a doctor and LOOKS NORMAL!

    • Pam says:

On that note I’m extremely surprised he’s a fan of Mrs Obama! I’d think he’d be one of those critics who have been putting her down for not being “pale” and anorexic enough to wear the clothes she wears. He must wanting to be invited to the White House really bad!

  38. JudyJudyJudy says:

saw a movie that showed his apartment and he had books and magazines and newspapers all over the place in process of being read – bookmarked etc. I LOVE THAT. He is interested in everything and is really alive. I can forgive him being a bit too
liberal with his opinions since he actually bases them on something more than
    gossip.

  39. katsrulz says:

Why is anyone discussing her weight at all? She’s a SINGER NOT A MODEL. Who cares if she even has a nice face. Everyone knows fat people are the last group that everyone can gang up on and everyone thinks it’s ok. You people make me hate humans.

  40. ANA says:

His whole Adele comment seemed to be saying that looks will get you places (a la Lana Del Rey) regardless of talent, whereas being “a little too fat” with a beautiful face and voice might limit you. Who makes him the know-all of everything pop? He looks disgusting and that stupid fingerless glove has to go.

  41. Str8Shooter says:

I am amazed from some of the comments on here how much people worship at the altar of this Dracula-wannabe. And equally appalled at how much people feel its OK to call someone ‘fat’ when that has nothing to do with her talent.

If she were trying to be a runway model or something, OK…fair game, I guess. But she is a singer..and a great one at that.

What’s his ‘talent’ again? Oh right. Being a douchebag.

    • katsrulz says:

Amen! This guy is a douche. Someone should let him know Dracula was SO 1992 ago.

    • JudyJudyJudy says:

and calling him dracula has nothing to do with his talent either…but I guess that concept escapes you.

    • Kimlee says:

Really do you feel the same way about thin people.

The amounts of hypocritical comments on this post is astonishing, it ok to call people a bag of bones and tell them to eat a sandwich anf that it’s ugly but not ok to call someone fat because it’s beautiful and mean.

  42. T.C. says:

I don’t think he was taking personal shots at Kstew with the bird flipping comment. Probably all people who do that type of thing. Still strange to ask him all these questions like he is some important policy maker or world leader.

  43. Kim says:

I love when a old rich man with a ponytail, wearing fingerless studded gloves, who lives in entirely different world than 99% of the public, thinks he is qualified to speak on politics and claims to know what is going on behind the scenes. If he knew what was going on behind the scenes he certainly wouldnt want Obama re-elected.

Im not Anti Karl (or Obama). I think some of Karls comments are funny & slightly true but regarding politics he shouldnt talk about what he obviously knows nothing of.

  44. Chrissy says:

We all know Adele isn’t skinny. But why bring up her weight when asked his opinion of her? She’s a singer, not a model, so why not stick to her talent? Must every woman on the planet be reduced to her appearance? And I really don’t care what this weirdo thinks of any woman’s appearance. There are plenty of talented lesser known fashion designers, yet most of the commenters here just love this freak and are giving him more power and influence with their adulation. Wake up people and stop letting a bunch of rich a**holes control your opinions.

  45. sm255 says:

    Okay?

If you’re fat, you’re fat. Least he wasn’t harsh about it.

  46. Sasha says:

Haa, he’s hilarious. Though I’m not sure how funny I’d find him if he was making an honest appraisal of me and called me fug 🙁

Adele is beautiful. She could be even more so if she were a healthy weight. She really does have an enchanting face.

  47. Kate Nonymous says:

What bugs me about this is not the attitude–it does sound like an observation rather than a jibe–but the fact that “She has a pretty face” is what people say about overweight women all the time. Like somehow their faces are separate from the rest of them, which is completely unworthy of mention.

  48. Amy says:

Dear Mr. Lagerfeld – If Adele decides she is unhappy with her weight, I’m sure she can lose it easily enough. You, however, will not fix that fugly, creepy, busted face of yours quite as easily. STFU and kiss Adele’s beautiful, talented, fat ass.

  49. fabgrrl says:

Did he stop to think that Adele might lose that beautiful face if she loses weight? A full face can look smooth and youthful and healthy, on young people anyway. Ah well. He has come a long way.

  50. Nan209 says:

Well…you can give the literal finger or you can call someone a little too fat…they are about the same in the “classy” department.

  51. only1shmoo says:

This interview made me warm up to Karl; he sounds like such an adorable, delightful curmudgeon : )

Sure, some of the things he says are insensitive, but in all fairness (at least in this case), he’s right, + the Russian lesbian/ugly men comment made me laugh really hard!

  52. Maya says:

Karl is being Karl. He is one of the last people in the world who don’t care for political correctness (his dig on political correctness is funny) – and good on him. It’s not unusual for him to say it straight out. I don’t think he said it in a bad way, it’s a comment in passing. An observation and so what?
He does expect people in the public eye to look a certain way. Not anorexic, but not overweight. He put on weight himself later in life and he did go on a diet and lose it.
I’m the same with celebrities. I can’t reconcile the way some overweight celebrities remain that way when they can afford good nutrition and personal trainers. The rest of the average earners have to cope with higher taxes in some countries and expensive fresh food and, unfortunately, fill up on cheaper food (in carb form), work 40+ hours a week , wrestle with families, that make exercise a challenge and to see a celebrity flush with money, choose to be fat?
Um, I don’t get that sorry.
I’ve battled with weight all my life and I don’t find fatness an attractive quality – but more so for the health hazard it poses.

  53. Nikita says:

How can somebody who looks like the way he does dare to make comments on Adele´s weight or looks? Look in a mirror, Mr Lagerfeld! And please stop trying to make women look like walking clothes hangers. The guy looks like he´s always in Halloween costumes, creepy, why, oh, why we give power to this kind of people to dictate what is beauty to us?????
Adele is gorgeous. Not everybody is skinny!

  54. ema82m says:

With a voice like that who gives a f*#! what her weight is!

  55. sashavice says:

As someone else said, too fat for what?

She’s a singer, who are we to care about her size. A lot of people are “too fat”, and many of you don’t actually care about a fat persons health, you just don’t like looking at fat people because they disgust you. Prejudice against fat people in wildly acceptable in our culture. So, she’s a little fat. So f–king what. I’m sure she is fully aware of her size, and doesn’t need arm chair activists to comment on her body.

  56. sashavice says:

Also, Karl Lagerfield is a little too orange.

  57. Francesca says:

I would take ‘a little too fat’ from Karl, no problem. He can relate; he was super too fat. Now he feels like a sphinx, all sexy and proud and almost dead. He can say anything and it is either hysterical or true or his musings; whatever. I like how weird he is.

Did he say Kristen Stewart will come out? Oh, I am sure of this. 10 years or less, just watch…

  58. seamonster says:

Is no one dealing with the fact that he implied Michelle Obama referred to her “big black ass”??? I sincerely doubt that happened (at least not in public, while her husband has been in office…

Other than that… love him! Grumpy old man, honest, tells it how it is. I do think he’s getting softer in his old age.

  59. FormerLurker says:

Curious about the negative comments regarding Adele, because he’s right.

She has an amazing voice but she’s overweight (possibly obese, depending on her BMI).

It’s not PC and it’s not ‘nice’, but you know who else had a great voice but was a ‘little’ too fat? Mama Cass (Elliot).

And she’s probably better remembered as the punch line to a joke than a woman with talent.

  60. Trashaddict says:

He’s not divine. He’s a tiresome, shallow man. Since when is it OK to say hurtful things about people even if it is true? Honestly discussing her weight might be OK for Adele’s mother or her best friend, but this dude is neither and should butt out.
I suggest an exercise for the following week: every man you see who’s overweight, make a comment about it. Go ahead, tell the truth and be HONEST. Comment about how much or how little they’re eating. Especially if they’re a professional colleague or you know it’s a really sore subject for them, or they’re formerly fat or recovering from an eating disorder.
Oh, and if you work for Karl, be sure to tell him he’s a little OLD to be dressing like that. And be sure to remind him he’s overdue for his weekly enbalmer’s appointment.

  61. ichsi says:

Aww, Karl, What did you doooo! *hehe* couldn’t help myself…
He’s an old self-absorbed fart, who’s partly responsible for trend to put high fashion on walking asexual sticks instead of women. So I guess being called a ‘little too fat’ is quite the compliment.
But calling Russian men ugly? Seriously Karl, that’s taking it too far! Behold my new celebrity crush Pasha Kovalev: http://www.snootyfoximages.com/#/pasha-kovalev/4559139454
And yes, he’s Russian (if the name wasn’t enough of a clue)

  62. jenna says:

he is a jerk! i mean seriously. im glad he got flipped off by kristen stewert!
