Diane Kruger on her diet: “When I am really busy, I will forget to eat”

Diane Kruger has a nice little interview in the new issue of Hello Magazine (the one with TomKat on the cover). I’m not sure what the point of it is, considering Diane isn’t promoting a movie right now, but she discusses skincare, diet, makeup and some other stuff. CB pointed me to this piece because she thought this quote from Diane was noteworthy: “It will sound really pretentious, but when I am really busy I will forget to eat.” Oh for the love of…!!! I really dislike when women say that, but I know SO MANY women who say stuff like that, and maybe it’s true. Maybe there are women who really “forget” to eat. I don’t understand that – sometimes I get so busy, I make a conscious choice to skip a meal or work through a lunch or something, but I never FORGET. My stomach won’t let me! So… I don’t understand the whole “Eating just slips my mind.” Anyway, some highlights from the Hello piece:

Diane does her own makeup: “It’s because I feel that less is more, especially on the red carpet. I used to have my makeup done, but I would look at the pictures and not recognize myself. I want to look like myself. Even though it’s a special occasion, I still want to look like me, I don’t want to be this done-up doll. I think that too much makeup takes away from your individuality. Luckily, I love makeup and I used to model, so I feel confident doing it myself.”

Skincare: “When I moved to LA, I noticed that the sun was so much hotter than I was used to and I started to get a few sun spots. So I went to a dermatologist who advised me never to go out without wearing SPF. And I always use the same moisturizer, Roseliane d’Uriage. You can’t get it in the US, so it’s one of the products I stock up on when I’m in France at the pharmacy.”

Other tips: “I try to get nine hours’ sleep a night – it’s really that simple. I also noticed a great improvement in my skin when I gave up smoking. There are no secret potions, though.”

Staying in shape: “I only dance when I go out. For exercise, I tend to like the outdoors. In Paris, I rent a bike in the street and cycle around, and in LA I live up in the hills so I go hiking a lot. I like to stay fit by being generally active.”

Eating/diet: “I do watch what I eat, but not for weight reason. It will sound really pretentious, but when I am really busy I will forget to eat. I feel like I am a little skinny right now because I have just finished a movie and have been flying lots. I try to avoid all processed food, too.”

[Via Hello Magazine, print edition]

She remembers skin care, she’s focused on doing her own makeup, and yet somehow maintaining a bare minimum level of sustenance slips her mind? As I said, I know lots of women claim that. I just think there’s a difference between “forgetting” and “remembering that you should eat something but making a choice to do something else.” Also: I think Diane would look even more gorgeous with 15 more pounds on her frame.

Here are some pics of Diane and Joshua Jackson at the Euro Cup final match between Spain and Italy. I love how normal they look. I love that Josh is chugging a beer, and I love that they both seem into the game:

I do that when I’m really busy or just preoccupied. Usually it will be 4, 5 or whatever at night and I’ll just realise I haven’t eaten all day. It’s not till I realise that I get hungry. I know lots of other people that do this so I don’t think she’s lying

    • Darlene says:

I am exactly the same way. I have my coffee in the morning and sometimes I am picking my daughter up from school at 3 and realizing I haven’t eaten yet. Sometimes I just wait until dinner, it’s been so long.

    • Ankia says:

That happens to me too. A whole day of stress can go by and not a single growl will be heard. 🙁

    • Micki says:

I’m so envious. No joke.Stress or boredom don’t make me eat more but to be able to skip…ah.Obviously I’m not busy enough

    • Turtle Dove says:

      +1

I’m the same way. I will get busy and it will slip my mind to eat. Major hunger will hit me quite hard though later in the day.

    • LucyOriginal says:

me too!!! When I have a lot of work, I can go on and on and later in the day when I have a headache/feel tired, I realized I forgot to eat. It has happened many times, unfortunately!

    • chaser says:

      Ditto.

I’m 14 weeks pregnant and still forgetting to eat…

      • Newmrs says:

When I’m busy I forget as well bc I get so focused on my to do list. Now that I’m pregnant..I still forget, I have to put eating on the to do list

    • telesma says:

I believe her. I’ve always been like that, I don’t think about food at all when other stuff is going on.

But I’m hypoglycemic and forgetting can be dangerous, so I have to set a timer and plan meals and snacks now. Without that, I don’t think about food until I’m getting shaky and foggy from low blood sugar.

  2. Amelia says:

    -_-
Just admit you work out and diet or go sit in the corner with Lively.

    • beyonce's bump says:

Um She DID admit she stayed active and works out outdoors and also admits she avoids all processed food. So umm…yea.

      • Amelia says:

        Alright, bad wording.
Just admit you work out and diet according to a typical HW regimen that involves not eating a lot rather than pretending you forget. She does not stay that slender by accident and merely hiking about. It’s careful wording.
Also – “I do watch what I eat but not for weight reasons”
Bullsh*t. Actors and actresses are expected to look good and uber slim. It’s no secret that they stay in shape to keep landing roles.
And anyone who starts a sentence with “it will sound really pretentious” is shooting themself in the foot (see Kristen’s perfume ad).
God, I feel like such a bitch today.

      • Liv says:

        Haha, Amelia 😉

I think shes naturally thin, plus she did ballett almost professionally, I think. Maybe that’s why she said she doesn’t watch what she’s eating because of weight issues.

      • jazzmin says:

HA!! Amelia great post, I live in NYC some of these women who “forget” to eat are the same women that cause the subway delays in the morning rush hours(fainting). Eating is just as pleasurable as sex and a great bottle of wine. 🙂

    • hatsumomo says:

      Lol!

  3. beyonce's bump says:

I really do not know how people “forget” to eat when busy. I would LOVE to have that kind of problem. I just STUFF my face with candy when I am busy and tell myself I need the sugar for energy. *shrugs*

    • carrie says:

      +1

when i “forgot”(no time) a meal,i’m hungry TWICE more at the next meal

      • Rhea says:

LOL. Very true. And I would get bitchy until I got my dose of food! 😀 But yes, sometimes when it’s really busy I could skip breakfast and lunch. Also, I am mostly stuffing myself with snacks and other unhealthy food when I am stressing out. #sigh#

    • lamamu says:

Maybe she just means that she forgets to eat when she’s stressed, which most people are when they’re busy. Just like some people stress-eat, others stress-not-eat. I don’t eat when I’m stressed…my waistline might appreciate it if I got stressed out more often. 🙂

    • Macey says:

It happens to me quit a bit so I totally understand what she’s saying. I do get really busy or stressed and like another poster said, it will be 6-7 pm until I realize I havent eaten a thing all day. Im usually super cranky & tired at this point too.
Its worse if Im doing physical work or out in the heat b/c it completely kills my appetite and I have to force something down.
I also go thru “stressed” periods when I have no appetite whatsoever and just the thought of eating makes me sick, especially in the morning. Even on a good day my appetite doesnt kick in until after 1:00.
That said, I dont think there was anything pretentious about what she said. Its just her appetite is not the same as others, same here.

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

I don’t eat all day either, I’ve already to,d you guys I have trouble eating. No processed food here or breads, they make me physically ill, so that rules out a TON of choices. I usually wind up with a smoothie if out all day. Thank god my family knows this and hubs is caring enough to understand and will go out of the way to find me something healthy or whatever.

Not eating processed cuts out a lot and a lot of weight off. She could still be eating some nuts or something. Your choices go down a lot though. Maybe she is just being truthful about that part.

What I do call absolute BS on is…that is a professional makeup job in the first pic on the carpet. Compare her looks, she didn’t do that makeup unless she is more skilled than a very good makeup artist. Her skin is airbrushed, perfect application.
So maybe she’s lying about everything, who knows? 😉

      • janie says:

@OriginalTiffany It does look incredible! I love seeing the closeups of celebs on the red carpet because you can see the caked-on illusion that makeup can create. Her skin looks almost flawless in the candids, though, so maybe she just has a great foundation?

    • backwards says:

I leave the office after my ridiculous 11 + hour day and I am usually stuffing my face with choc or a muffin because I have been too busy to eat. Sometimes I am so busy that food doesn’t really cross my mind so I guess I do forget….but make up for it with crap after!

    • janie says:

I used to work at a restaurant, and it was often so busy that I would finish an 8 hour shift and realize I hadn’t even had a sip of water since I arrived at work. And I was around food the entire time!

I just don’t get very hungry. When I’m upset or anxious, I lose my appetite, while some of my friends turn to food for comfort. Everyone has a different relationship with food.

I believe her..she’s probably traveling all the time and has little time to sit down and have a relaxing meal. It happens.

    • Jenna says:

No… you really wouldn’t, actually. Between battling back from a long term illness and dealing with ‘fun’ like celiac and a whomp of allergies – yeah, I often forget to eat. When food becomes more of a panic attack because “What can I eat? Can I, this? That? No? Crap. Screw it, toss me a water” it gets to be a real pain in the butt.

Take it from the 6’2 girl who tends to faint. Which, while it’s no fun for me… it REALLY sucks for all the short people I’m suddenly falling ONTO. Anymore, my husband calls me at lunch time to remind me and I have alarms on my phone because otherwise – 3 days will pass, I’ll start shaking, and oh, yeah… I’m a moron, go eat a piece of fruit fast!

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

@jenna, you are my long lost sister!
Long term illness, combined with massive gut issues. If I can’t find something that won’t make me sick I go forever without.
Sent hubs for cashew clusters so I can eat at the holiday party tomorrow.
Premiere? While everyone gorges I watch. So depressing.
Some days I can hardly get up I am so tired from no food. 😱

      • Swats says:

Add me to the terrible club. My in-laws think I’m anorexic, because I can’t eat deep fried fat with them at outings.

    • corny says:

and does she also ‘forget’ to wash and brush her hair?

    • LucyOriginal says:

I get lethargic if I consume a lot of sugar. Also, I do forget to eat when I am busy. I believe her!

  4. Steph says:

I love her, I want to see her and Josh have babies already!

  5. Xenu says:

When I am really busy, I will forget to breath.

    • Tanguerita says:

      +1:-)

    • carrie says:

      +2
      i’m trying

    • Krock says:

Lol! Sounds about right! Really I have to call BS on the “forgetting” to eat though. Why do stars claim that? To make people envious? Whats the point? Why not say yeah I work out and watch what I eat?

Well off to stuff my face! There’s a stack of pancakes with my name on it 😉 lol

  6. lucy2 says:

BS. That kind of talk with celebs always makes me think eating disorder. And anyone who can manage to sleep NINE hours a night isn’t so busy that she “forgets” to eat.

    • RocketMerry says:

Yep. Kate Moss “forgot to eat” a lot too (her own words). Maybe it’s a model thing?

But yes, it can be that eating sometimes does not become a priority, and once in a while you can even forget to eat if you’re so fired up about something else. Still, that sounds like one of the catch phrases the modelling ambient circulates to justify the bad eating habits.

    • Amelia says:

that’s a good catch Lucy2. I used that excuse all the time. And admitting you’re too skinny is another one. Throws people off the scent.
Now, before I get sued for libel, I’d just like to clarify that I’m not saying she has an Ed 🙂 Now, for all I know she may actually forget to eat, but it’s a silly thing to say in an interview.

  7. Tarebear says:

I’m a nurse and always busy so I forget to eat constantly. I think some people just don’t have strong hunger cues. It’s not that unusual. You dont people like me bagging on those who always remember to eat…

    • tripmom says:

Thank you! I totally forget to eat when I get busy. I don’t think about eating and then decide not to; I don’t really think about it at all. It’s mostly because I just don’t get crazy hungry. Also, I lose track of time. I don’t realize how long it’s been since I ate. I can even make the kids their bottles and feed them and still not have it occur to me that I should feed myself, too. This is a bad habit for someone who is trying to gain weight, but it’s like biting your fingernails; it’s hard to break the habit when you don’t realize you’re doing it.

I don’t eat processed foods either. Just because I occasionally forget to eat doesn’t mean that when I do eat I don’t make educated decisions about what to put in my body.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

Thankyou! God, some people on here seem to think that everyone functions exactly the same…I don’t get strong hunger cues either, so I really do forget to eat for hours at a time. I work very hard at my job and get distracted, and when I’m home I have two very active kids that are my priority, so I’m so busy taking care of them that I don’t even pay attention to feeding myself. I’ve also never been a breakfast person, so it’s often 3pm or so before I think, “Huh, I haven’t eaten anything yet.” Thirst hits me first, and that usually reminds me that I should probably eat. Also, after being hungry for awhile my body stops trying to remind me and the hunger goes away. I also don’t stuff my face when I DO eat–it’s usually just something small and light. My only problem now is trying to constantly remind myself to eat because I’m pregnant and shouldn’t be going all day without eating/drinking.

      • Lisa says:

I could never skip breaky! It’s my fave meal of the day. I can stretch the time between lunch and dinner no problem, but I like the whole b-fast ritual. I’m nuts.

    • Rachface24 says:

I am the same way. I feel like when I am stressed my hunger cues disappear, which I’d have to imagine is an evolutionary survival mechanism. Can’t run from danger with a full stomach.

      • LucyOriginal says:

yep! Thank God, not everyone is the same. Metabolism functions differently for every person. This is the third time I am posting this here: I do forget to eat when I am busy. I work, work, work and when I am tired i notice what time it is, and then I have a break.

      • telesma says:

I don’t need stress for it to happen. All I need is to be busy or engrossed in something and any thought of food falls by the wayside.

  8. ab says:

I can forget to eat when I’m busy. it happens. I eat breakfast every day, but if I’m really involved in some project or running around all day, I’ll look at the clock and it’s like 4 and I haven’t eaten anything else since breakfast. and usually the second I realize I haven’t eaten, I’m all of a sudden starving. ha.

  9. grayze says:

So I feel like an idiot, but…am I the only person who doesn’t understand her appeal? Remotely?

I mean her personality might be okay, I don’t know, but I read about her on blogs and some of them make her sound like she is the epitome of Fashion and Beauty and I don’t really get it. Is this a case of “she’s so beautiful your tiny brain cannot comprehend it”? Because I cannot comprehend it. …at all.

    • Maria says:

Gah, I feel the same way. Remember back when she was a German nobody and was cast as Helen of Troy? That chick does not have a face that would launch a thousand ships, IMHO. That movie was terrible anyway, but her casting was a total BZUH moment for me. I loved her in Inglorious Basterds (elegant and funny), and I don’t think she’s hideous or anything — but she’s certainly not the goddess people make her out to be. *shrugs*

      • Amanda says:

I agree. I also think she looks pretty bored sitting next to Josh at the Euro Cup. You know, come to think of it, if I had Josh sleeping in my bed, I would probably be too busy to sleep 9 hours a night or eat, too. 🙂

      • MrsBPitt says:

Totally agree…could not believe they cast her as Helen of Troy…Brad was prettier than her…

    • Belle says:

You are not alone… for some reason, I am not a fan of this woman at all. Could be that I AM a fan of Josh, and for some reason, get the impression she is very controlling and demanding. She dresses him up and lets him play lap dog at her random appearances. She doesn’t seem like she wants to settle down and have babies… and I think Josh does! I also just don’t think she is that attractive.

He always seems very much in love when he talks about her though… so I must be wrong(; Or maybe she is crazy-insane in bed?

      • norma says:

“He always seems very much in love when he talks about her though…”
Well, he´s a much better actor than you think.

    • telesma says:

I just loved her for playing Boy George in Mark Ronson and The Business International’s video for “Somebody to Love Me”.

  10. Minimi says:

I used to think the same about this “forgetting to eat” thing. However, I have to say that nowadays I think it can really happen. It’s not that you don’t think about eating at all, but it already happen to me to have something in the office fridge, thinking about eating it later when I would have some free time and reach 19h and think “f***, i didn’t eat today”. A chaotic busy day can really lead you to this, specially if you’re not just sitting in the office but jumping from meeting to meeting. However, the part where she says “it will sound really pretentious” it’s the point that I would pick in her interview. To jump meals is not healthy or in any way contributes for staying lean since the probability of over compensating in the next meal it’s huge. So why should it be “pretentious” to not take care of nurturing your body right? Yes, that was pretentious and an extremely stupid comment.

  11. the original bellaluna says:

Bullshit. When your stomach is growling louder than a mama bear after hibernation, you f*cking remember to eat. (Or go have a smoke, in H-Wood terms.)

Now, I’ve been stressed to the point of physical illness. I’ve been through the “divorce diet.” But don’t try to blow smoke up my arse about “forgetting” to eat.

    PLEASE.

    • Katie Too says:

It isn’t bs. I’m thinnish, but love food. When I get stressed out with work, I forget, just as those ladies above said. Adrenaline just takes over.

  12. Dinah says:

““It will sound really pretentious, but when I am really busy I will forget to eat.” Oh for the love of…!!! I really dislike when women say that, but I know SO MANY women who say stuff like that, and maybe it’s true”

She’s right,it does. But if she is a paleo or primal eater, it’s possible. A little confession on the part of these doubtless grain-carb eschewing celebrities would go a long way.

I went primal in April, and losing the grain-based carbs makes you lose the peaks & troughs of hunger. The sickening hunger pangs go away, they are MUCH milder, and fasting (planned or not) happens fairly easily. You still eat meat/fish/poultry, nuts, fruits & veggies. Delish. Avocados in middle age & I can still lose a pound a week. It’s like a dream. 😉

And for me, asthma just went away. No controller meds since mid-April! Yay!
But to say that she ‘forgets’, or like Blake ‘eat cupcakes & don’t workout’ is disingenuous at best, makes us call bs, and begin to dislike the persona.

It’s a stupid tactic- when will they learn that we’d have greater admiration for them if they said,”Hell, yeah,I diet & work out- this doesn’t come free.” We can all relate to a little hard work, right?

    • Kit says:

I’ve never heard of paleo or primal eating. What does it entail? It sounds really interesting.

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

You eat what your paleo ancestors ate. Meat, veg, fruit, nuts, seeds.
        No grain or dairy.

      • Dinah says:

Original Tiffany is right. It also frowns on legumes b/c of lectins. Primal is a slightly watered down version, allowing some full fat dairy, occasional wine and a bit of dark chocolate. It’s really good!

You can check out Marksdailyappledotcom. Lots of great info.

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

When I restrict to those things I don’t get as sick. I cut out all processed, all bread, most dairy.
I still do frozen yogurt and Greek yogurt because I can get it down. Yesterday in Maine I was persuaded to get ice cream as a treat, it used to be a staple of my diet and now hubs says, you never eat it. Wonders never cease. Anyway, so sick I couldn’t eat again or since actually.
I used to follow the Zone which is carb restricted, but not quite paleo. Works good as a lead in. Oh, I’ve been able to quit 14 prescriptions too!!!

I am the thinnest I have been since I was 17. That’s kind of cool, especially because when I was sick I was 90 pounds heavier!

      • Dinah says:

Kudos to you, OriginalTiffany! It really is fantastic to be able to ‘fix’ what western medicine often cannot. It really makes you aware of signals & more careful of what you put in your body. Wheat seems to be the killer for me; I don’t do much dairy (carbs via lactose), but don’t feel ill from it.

        Continued good health to you!

    • normades says:

100% in agreement with you. I’ve never gone full Paleo but I do low carb for my diabetes (no bread, pasta, rice etc. Good full fat foods and absolutely no processed foods). I lost 2 maybe even 3 dress sizes and reversed my type 2 diabetes.

Fad diets are stupid but if you do your research you know that certain foods are just not good for us and go directly to the gut.

And I eat, I eat a lot. Just not the things I described above.

      • Dinah says:

It’s great, isn’t it? It was a bit tricky to adjust those first couple weeks, but damn, I felt great soon after.

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

Yes, once you get past the detox, the food cravings go away. Almost completely. When I do splurge it makes me sick, it’s like my body says, uh, we got rid of that stuff for a reason.

No judging of people who choose to eat however they want. I just notice that even my SIL works out like mad and eats crap and is way bigger. I don’t eat crap and drink sparingly and work out in a gentler more outdoor way. Pisses her off, but since she is the one who said I would be one of the most gorgeous people her and her friends had seen if I wasn’t overweight, haha.
Everyone at cirque say it’s about an 80/20 split diet/exercise.
One other thing, I do have easy access to healthful meals on site whenever I want for cheap. It’s a bit of a cheat but a nice perk if you can get it.

      • Dinah says:

        A big 😀 to you!

      • Amelia says:

Dinah, thanks for the website tip off!
I’ve been thinking of going Paleo/Primal lately. Wondering if it would sort out my digestive system. Ever since my first relapse my body’s been screwing around on me. Doesn’t like processed stuff, can’t take too much food in one sitting and it reacts *ahem* badly to certain foods. White bread and pizza are the worst.
Cheers for all the info posted above, I think I’m definitely going to try it 🙂 Congrats on feeling better Tiffany!

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

@Amelia, try it. My gut issues were so severe until I cut it all out. No more system freaking out after I eat unless I eat something I know pisses it off. Like you bread, pizza, etc.

I finally gave in, stopped trying to eat like I used to, stopped trying to drink like I used to and put in what my body would tolerate. Which happens to be pretty paleo.

Goodbye extra weight, goodbye puking and all other assorted gross issues. I had never thought about food like this before.

And forever who said food was as good as sex and wine. Sex doesn’t make me puke for days afterward and render me useless like my last big meal for my anniversary did.

I’ll stick to sex and pot, they help my tummy too😜

      • telesma says:

I don’t eat much bread to begin with, but I noticed recently that if I eat regular store-bought white sliced bread I swell terribly the next day.

I’ve had issues with idiopathic edema for years and this is the first time I’ve made a connection to a specific food making it worse that wasn’t an obviously high sodium food. I’ve tested it and other breads don’t seem to do it, just the white slice. Homemade white bread doesn’t do it.

No idea why it does what it does, but white slice is now off the menu entirely, and I’m eyeballing the paleo/primal thing.

  13. lower-case deb says:

i think it’s more like “time flies by when you’re having fun and/or busy” and by the time you look at the clock/watch it’s like waaaay past lunch/dinner/whatever, effectively making it seem as though we’re “forgetting” or “neglecting” to have lunch.

(sort of like a harried mother “forgetting” the child they’re supposed to take to school at home, “come on come on chop chop slam drive away”. only realizing at the gate of the school that the child is not sitting in the car, but actually still at the breakfast table at home. i think there’s a celebrity who forgot kids this way too, can’t remember for the life of me who though.)

however, this forgetting/putting off food never happened to me. i’m a stressed-eater. the busier i am, the more stressed i am, the more i need food. it calms me down and help me think. 🙂

    • Waldemar says:

Only recently the British Prime Minister forgot to bring his daughter back home from a lunch in a pub. Maybe that was what you were thinking about?

I can relate to the forgetting to eat thing. I have to keep a regular schedule for my breakfast lunch etc. to keep getting the hungerpangs. If I skip one meal, the next day, my body seems to forget that it is lunchtime and calmly waits still dinner before it gets hungry again.

    • Alex'sMommy says:

Victoria beckam. She forgot one of her kids to take to school.

  14. May May says:

Being a naturally absent-minded person that doesn’t eat much anyway, I do the same thing. It IS possible. Just because it’s never happened to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen to anyone else.

  15. lizzi says:

How in f*cks sake can you forget to eat? Plus skipping lots of meals screws up your whole metabolism.

Anyway, I will gladly donate 15 of my pounds to her.

  16. LittleDeadGirl says:

It can happen. I have months when I feel like I’m always hungry and months when not only am I not hungry but the thought of eating a full meal kind of makes me sick. She clearly watches what she eats and lives an active lifestyle. She’s not Blake Lively claiming she got her toned body by eating cupckaes.

    • Little Darling says:

Exactly!! That’s the point! I don’t buy that she is stifling cravings, or pretending that she is something that she’s not. I think she eats when she eats and the rest of the time it’s not even thought of.

    • telesma says:

Meh. I practically lived on coffee and Snickers bars from 16-20 years old, and I was a size 2. I was also very active and toned, but I never worked out.

It’s also probably why I’m hypoglycemic now, but when I was young it was the way things were. I almost never ate a meal, maybe a boiled egg and toast for breakfast with my coffee, then junk the rest of the day while I was running around. Probably the healthiest thing I ate was PB&J on whole wheat, a few times a week.

She may be obnoxious for saying that she lives on cupcakes and doesn’t work out, but it’s entirely possible that it’s true. It just won’t be true for long. A youthful metabolism can withstand a lot more abuse than an older one. 😉

      • LittleDeadGirl says:

Well if you say it’s possible I’ll give Blake some belief in her story. I’ve just never seen it. I had a lot of friends who had a fast metabolism and they are skinny but not toned. I was the same way in my teenage years. I hate healthy but I’d also randomly eat like a whole cheesecake and it wouldn’t touch me. I was really skinny but I was in way toned or had muscle. Blake to me looks like she has toned arms and legs and that screams some level of working out (even if it’s just a lot of walking or dancing or something outside the gym).

      • Ally says:

There was just a study released this week tracking people over a period of years. Those who ate breakfast every day developed diabetes in statistically-significant lower numbers.

  17. Little Darling says:

I have to say it and I don’t even want to support skipping meals as a technique to lose weight….BUT….it really does happen. I am by no means a skinny girl, but I am fit and lean. Half is due to doing pilates for at least 20 minutes a day (Mari Winsor) and the other half is due to practical diet (limit carbs etc) but at the end of this year when I was throwing a HUGE fundraiser to keep art in schools and didn’t have time tto work out at ALL, I did sometimes “forget” to eat. I actually don’t think it’s “forgetting” as much as it is being so busy that time escapes you and before you know it it’s 5:15 and you didn’t make time, or even REALIZE it was time for lunch. I’m a three meal a day kind of gal, and I tell you, I did actually lose weight due to hectic schedule. So, I can see how that happens. Additionally, there does come a point when you alter your dieting/eating habits that the cravings and the crashes really do inhibit your stomach from absolutely freaking out if it isn’t fed a huge meal on time. The more your stomach is in control, and you maintain your healthy weight, the more likely you are to not feel ravenous as you might have before.

I like this girl for one reason and one reason alone. She has stayed with and loved my man JJ for all of these years, and it has made him so deliciously happy. So that makes me just love her because she gave him a chance and continued to stick with it. 🙂

  18. serena says:

Love them together! Anyway I appreciate that at least she admit to be too skinny at the moment.

  19. ontheraw says:

So much with you on THIS ^^^^^

That is exactly what happens to me. Control your sugar peaks via controlled intake of carbs (at the right times and the right carbs depending on if you wanna lose or gain weight). All other meals allowed since the goal is to maintain the most reasonably healthy diet considering the realistic options we have. Only source of fat (save for morning toast) is olive oil. No processed foods (or limit intake to when going out, movies, and the occasional snack). Divide intake into 5 meals (this will take rid of snacking). Exercise same as for Diane: main goal, keep an active outlook, plus 20 sun salutations a day divided into 10 energizing ones in the morning and 10 relaxation ones in the afternoon. This will keep all muscle mass lean and long.

    • ontheraw says:

Oh! And eat about 5 almonds after lunch and dinner. 10 mins after or so. This will give you plenty of good omegas, good fat, will control bad cholesterol and, most importantly if taken after meals, almonds will balance sugar levels. Hence, no peaks, no pangs afterwards, the feel will be balanced out. Take raw almonds, not roasted, not salted.

ETA. My comment above was misplaced. It was intended as a reply. As a side note, I am also one of those women: when stressed at work, I forget to eat. Which is not a bad thing if you keep track of it and use it as controlled continuous fasting to relieve your body of standard functions and let it repair itself. The immunologic system is also boosted. Animals do this. I never understood why people are afraid of fasting in modern times. You will just not eat 1 day a week or 1 day every 10 days, you eat plenty and good after that. Not harsh, good for your body and health. Your body is actually designed to do it, you are really not letting it. When your body is not left the time to repair itself, you contract more diseases, as a whole you and your organs age and decay faster. In any case, you should all follow the advise of your doctor at the end of the day, just make sure your doctor really has a clue and does not respond to nutrition (or whatever) based on governmental interests.

      • Little Darling says:

That’s great! I am Spanish too, and I teach it to everyone! In fact, that year I taught it to my best friend, which was her introduction into yoga, and now she is certified in 6 different types of yoga and also incorporated it into her profession of working with special needs children (autistic and such) and has made it into her lifestyle! I swear…it’s the best!!

    • Little Darling says:

OMG is the sun salutation not the GREATEST set of exercises EVER? I was a freshman in college taking summer courses for fun, and to fulfill my phys ed I took aerobics and yoga back to back (ha! awesome right?) I learned the SS then and have since incorporated them into my morning routine!! I love that you adjust the same pattern to fit the level of activity you want…you want to sweat? Pick up the pace, you want to relax, slow it down and sit with each pose. Absolutely one of the best, and most relaxing/enjoyable exercises I have ever known.

      • ontheraw says:

Totally! And it feels great and you see improvement in so little time 🙂 I don’t go out of my way now (used to do ballet and then yoga), right now I stick to the sun salutation plan and it’s marvelous how you can tweak it for just any need that you have. Energy, toning and lean muscle building wise. I teach those to my neighbors (strong feel of community here -and rising, I’m Spanish), lots of elderly people too and they are really really delighted when they incorporate those into the routine. It’s just so great when you’re running to work and you cross them beaming a smile, telling you about their improvements and all.

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

I do them too! When I became determined to fix myself I started these with my diet.

Amazing and so easy and quick. Good for you!

Also, three macadamia nuts are perfect and I like cashews too. Macadamia nuts give you a nice bit of natural fats if you aren’t eating a lot of it in your diet.

I swear, I have been athletic my whole life except for the few years I was sick. I was in western Medicine, I ate and drank whatever, I never thought I would end up going this route, but it is healing me and I feel better than I have in years!

  20. NerdMomma says:

I agree it’s a dumb thing to say in an interview, but it does totally happen to me. I suspect that whatever hormones or brain chemicals that are released when I am stressed out suppress my normal feelings of hunger. Obviously I don’t have any medical background, but I literally do not feel hunger when I am stressed. When I am happy and relaxed, I’m hungry all the time! So I don’t think she’s lying.

    • CitizenErased says:

Agreed. I’ve been very stressed out the last month and have dropped 3-4 kilos. Unexpected bonus of a pretty crappy time.

  21. amurph says:

Sure, some people can forget to eat – I had a friend who had such a packed schedule, her ability to take time to eat was limited so some days if she didn’t plan right, she’d forget to eat in the whole rush of things. BUT, the question I have is if she can plan to get nine hours of sleep a night for her skin, why can’t she plan to have mini-meals or snacks throughout the day for her health? It’s not like she’s trapped in a room without windows by herself. She’s most likely working with other people who all have to eat as well. She also has people surrounding her who’d go and get her food if need be.

I do agree that there are people who do forget to eat – or rather can forget to eat but I’m skeptical that the entertainment industry seems to be chock full of them, especially as they get tinier and tinier. She had that 15 pounds (and looked gorgeous) when she first appeared years ago.

  22. Jackson says:

Why was I not born with the ability to forget to eat?
🙁 That top pic looks like she’s wearing a short wedding dress but she looks fab. Beautiful. Death stare in that middle soccer pic though. Wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that.
    Love, love, love them together!

  23. Samihami says:

My liking for her just dropped dramatically. That comment is pretentious and it is total and complete BS.

  24. Krock says:

Adderall has that effect. Makes people forget to eat and not hungry. Lots of celebs take it so that might be it.

  25. daz says:

HALLELUJAH i said this about diane Kruger a while ago. ‘That she’s beautiful but could do with putting on 10 pounds, at least’. But i was criticised for somehow advocating obesity by the anorexic brigade.

  26. Beta says:

by the looks in their faces they were supporting italy XD

  27. mattlauerrocks says:

I am totally surprised to learn that she does her own makeup because I always thought her makeup artists were sabotaging her and giving her subtle cruel face. Jeez.

  28. Vera says:

I sometimes forget to eat, but it is normally more stress based reasons for me. Also, when I don’t eat for a while just in general, I feel nauseous, which then causes me to not eat for even longer before realising what is going on and eating. At times the thought of certain foods just makes me feel ill and not want to eat, as well. So I can understand when others say they forget or don’t always get the feeling of hunger right away. I mean, some may be using that as a cover, but others legitimately forget. Not everyone is the same.

  29. Maritza says:

It does happen, when you are busy or having fun you don’t feel hungry but your stomach will be growling after 3 hours have passed lunchtime and then you eat twice as much.

  30. Katyusha says:

I can relate to what she said, but it’s more along the lines of, “too busy to eat.” But yeah, I’d never forget to do it.

  31. Mew says:

“I’m too busy to eat, I forget to eat” is the most tired excuse there is out there.
A person who eats consistently his/her meals, will NOT forget to eat – it’s called hunger and yes, body will remind of its need for fuel.

Get a better excuse Diane, like for example “I eat no glutein” which lacks just as much credibility but is at least trendy.

    • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I get what you’re saying, but for those of us with celiac or a wheat allergy, gluten free isn’t a fad, it’s a necessity.

      • Circley says:

I’m a lurker here, usually, but delurking briefly to support this statement concerning gluten- and wheat-free.

Personally, I’ve had a rough couple of times in airports, for instance, with nothing even remotely quick, convenient or just resembling a meal to eat (then you learn to always, always pre-plan and pack snacks, even (or maybe especially) for early a.m. flights).

The thing is, I can easily get pissed off about having no options (like in an airport) – to the point where I go “screw it, then I won’t eat anything ANYway, because I am spoiled princess with a temper tantrum and I hate everything right now, especially food” (I didn’t say this was a constructive mindset). I think a limited/restricted diet might easily lead to a limited food intake simply when it becomes more stressful to eat/find food than not to eat. Diane’s trying to avoid processed foods sounds a lot like that to me.

And, for me, I do forget to eat too when I get completely immersed in something. Unfortunately that does not happen as frequently as my figure would appreciate.

      • TheOriginalTiffany says:

Circley, Yep, concert the other night here. Thought they would have decent food. Forgot I am not in CA. Choices, fried dough, breaded crap, gross pizza. I had some Lara bar samples I ate, but my girl and I were pissy. Where was one veggie or nuts or something?

We hate that. I ate nothing. Travelling every two months with cirque? Nightmare. It’s either nothing or excuse me, but crapping blood in the bathroom and beingm miserable.

I stock up on nuts and try to keep those or a bar with me all the time. The whole country should have Jamba Juice or Robeks!

  32. Crystal says:

I don’t really forget to eat, it’s more like I’m so busy that I put eating last on the list. It sounds suspect coming from her because she’s in Hollywood but I think a lot of people are like that. When I’m super busy eating is not a priority until I finally get to having a meal and then I realise how ravenous I am.

  33. TheOriginalKitten says:

God, Joshua Jackson….Recently re-watching Dawson’s Creek and Pacy Whitter has to be one of the sexiest male characters of all time.

As far as Kruger-I believe her. I think “forget” is the wrong verb. More likely she thinks about food, but keeps getting distracted by other work-related things and i think it’s even easier for that to happen when you are doing something like acting-which requires a lot of concentration and is really absorbing.

    • Belle says:

      Gah! Totally with you Kitten, about Josh. I will forever have a massively inappropriate, nasty cougar-crush on Pacey. But hey… he WAS pretty fond of Ms. Jacobs(;

If I can’t have him though, with Katie free (or I can only hope for her, that she will be soon), I would like Diane to step aside so Katie can take her rightful place alongside Josh. This isn’t just a Pacey/Joey thing… I loved them together as a real couple, and still think he is Suri’s daddy!

  34. Helen says:

I get what she means kinda but surely if she manages to sleep 9 hours she can get time for meals. When my university studies are in full swing, I can get by on one meal a day with no snacks but about 10 cups of tea. I just change my sleep pattern dramatically at exam time. I am awake from 11am-4am and I don’t eat after dinner, I am just not hungary at night. It’s definately not good for me and Mother would kill me if she knew but if I make the one meal a decent one then I literally do not feel hungry when I am stressed or super busy. That said if I have nothing to do all day, I have to stop myself going to the cupboard every hours out of boredom.

    • telesma says:

For me, it was coffee. I drank it all day and hardly ate anything. When I did eat it was junk, whatever was available from the nearest vending machine on campus. And if I was busy, I didn’t even think about food unless someone else was eating or forcing a break to eat.

  35. Dahlia Verlaine says:

B*tch please, what are you so busy doing?! No Kids, you barely shoot 2 films a year as an actress and you still have 9 hours of sleep. I’d say eating disorder…

  36. The Original Mia says:

My mother says food isn’t a priority and that’s true. She’ll be working and it’ll be late afternoon before she eats something. It happens.

  37. Jenna says:

It’s happened to me before; usually when I’m busy or stressed with school work. I’ll be hungry for a bit, but I’ll work through it, forget and then I’m not hungry anymore.

  38. Sara says:

Forgetting to eat will wreak havoc on your metabolism and your looks eventually. Obviously she is genetically lucky but this will catch up with her sooner or later. I still think she has an eating disorder.

    • norma says:

She is not genetically lucky. Her mom is BIG!Diane does have an eating disorder.
      And she smokes. A lot.

      • Scarlet Vixen says:

@norma: Do you know what her father/grandparents/brother look like? Maybe she IS genetically gifted but got it from someone else. Not all of us turn into our mothers, you know…She was also training seriously to be a ballerina but after injury became a model, so chances are she’s been quite thin her entire life.

And she said she quit smoking.

  39. Carolyn says:

Dying for a beer and that guy next to her enjoys and guzzles it next to her.. EEEEEK!

  40. Hip-ster says:

If I drink a big cup of coffee in the morning it fills me up and I will forget to eat until hours later. I dont see the big deal about forgetting to eat?

    • telesma says:

The big deal is that it’s a cover used by anorexics and people who want to make their looks seem effortless. They say they don’t diet, they just get busy and forget to eat. On top of that, people who’ve never experienced it think it’s BS because they can’t imagine not feeling hungry or at least remembering that they should eat.

Those of us who’ve experienced know better – it does happen. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a lie some people tell, though. I would say that in Diane Kruger’s case, having been both a ballerina and a model, the likelihood of it being a lie is high, just by virtue of those professions having such high rates of eating disorders.

But it is a believable lie because I happen to be one of those people who forget to eat myself.

  41. palermo says:

I wake up from anesthesia and want to eat LOL

  42. crtb says:

I’m a kindergarten teacher. I spend my lunch break setting up for the afternoon. I don’t forget but I don’t get to eat lunch every day.

  43. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

“I try to get nine hours’ sleep a night – it’s really that simple.”

Not when you have small children.

  44. natalina says:

It doesnt matter, she doesnt flaunt her body like other anorexic stars

  45. Jayna says:

I loved her in the Unknown.

  46. blonde on the dock says:

She forgets to eat because she smokes like a steam engine. That will kill your appetite. I dont find her attractive…..she has a mean face.

  47. Mrs.Krabapple says:

She has the classic receding hairline of a woman with an eating disorder.

If she is truly “forgetting” to eat, then it’s taking its toll on her health – hence the receding hairline.

    But I suspect starve/purge.

  48. Janet says:

I can relate. I skipped lunch more times than I can count because I was totally caught up in whatever I was doing in the office.

  49. Lisa says:

Semantics. Forget to eat, forget to schedule, or make a conscious decision. It’s all the same. If she said she purposely skipped one to work overtime, people would flip even more.

I like to eat every 3-4 hours, just for routine’s sake, but you’re not going to die if you go longer. Eating can slip your mind if you’re busy and don’t have crazy blood sugar spikes and drops.

  50. Kim says:

I often go all day without eating because I am so busy at work and dont have time.

  51. Ken says:

    I love food.

  52. Devon says:

She is REALLY tiny in person. I saw her in the mall in Vancouver and I was shocked. I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t eat until she remembers to but at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a little bit of both.

  53. Ycnan says:

Maybe after years and years of depriving yourself and barely eating anything, your body gets used to it and that’s how she forgets to eat? I wouldn’t know! hahah

  54. Isa says:

BC (before children) I ate once a day, when I got hungry.
I have forgotten to eat quite a bit. It does have a little bit to do with choosing other stuff over food. Like this morning I chose to sleep in and skip breakfast. It’s 330 and I’m just now eating for the first time today. I don’t snack on junk out of hunger, just from cravings and if I don’t see it I don’t crave it.
Also I never eat at the same time everyday. So at 12 my body isn’t screaming FEED ME LUNCH!! Which makes it easier to forget.
I’ve probably jacked up my metabolism but I just can’t be bothered. I get so sick of food! Trying to eat healthy, grocery shopping, meal planning, preparing it, serving it, cleaning up afterwards. Sick of it!
Too bad my figure doesn’t show that….dang baby weight

  55. Issa says:

I don’t stress overeat I stress undereat. When I get really stressed or very busy, I not only forget to eat but actually loose my appetite.

  56. Alice says:

Enough about her diet, I want to know about her skin care.
Roseliane d’Uriage? Is it any good?

    • Lisa says:

Not sure, but I looked it up and was surprised by the price — 23 bucks. It sounded expensive.

A few years ago, Cyndi Lauper said she used Tracie Martyn products. Her skin is insane, so I checked it out. Almost $200 for one cream!!

  57. Jane says:

When I´m stressed, I just don´t get hungry, and I feel sick if it is really bad. So yes, I can forget to eat or I just don´t want to.

  58. LucyOriginal says:

I love Joshua and Diane, :). Can you believe he dated Katie Holmes back in the day?

  59. Jovia says:

Omigod she’s gorgeous but I bet five pounds would go a long way on someone as tiny and small boned as Diane is. I would hope that she’d learn to schedule eating properly the same as she has to schedule the rest of her life. One meal skipped, especially breakfast, can make one jittery, sick and tired so it’s hard to comprehend going all day or most of a day on nothing.

  60. Chris says:

I don’t relate. NOTHING happens until I’ve had my three weetbix and two coffees in the morning. However, between breakfast and dinner I’ll have a meal replacement shake for lunch and easy stuff like muesli bars and fruit between meals. So my eating is pretty low maintenance during the day. The reason I only have a shake for lunch is because I spend most of my working day at a desk and I don’t believe I need that much food for the amount of energy I’m using.

  61. Meanchick says:

    Amelia says:
    “Alright, bad wording.
And anyone who starts a sentence with “it will sound really pretentious” is shooting themself in the foot.”
ITA. I get really busy and eating is not something I stop to do, but I don’t forget and your body will not let you forget. Saying “I forget to eat,” to me is like saying “I forget to breathe.” It’s bull and I’m tired of these actresses saying that crap. Also, as if she’s terribly busy anyway.

  62. sup says:

isn’t that the same for everyone though?

  63. Chris says:

“And anyone who starts a sentence with “it will sound really pretentious” is shooting themself in the foot.”

True. It’s a bit like starting a sentence with “I’m not racist but…”

  64. jwoolman says:

That definitely happened to me once. I was under a really tight deadline that had suddenly become even tighter (they doubled my share of pages to translate) and dutifully making sure I kept drinking water and taking vitamin C. I finished the job about 10am on a Thursday and was preparing the invoice. My stomach felt really odd but I couldn’t quite figure out why – then I realized that I hadn’t eaten anything since Tuesday evening. I wasn’t deliberately not eating. I just plain forgot! So yes, it’s possible to be that busy and focused on something else.

  65. Ginger says:

I have to admit that I too will forget to eat when I get really busy. It’s really bad too because I’m hypoglycemic so my body will let me know that I’ve forgotten to eat when I get a crashing head ache. I like her attitude about make up and being an individual. She seems down to earth and I like her look in general. But I will agree with Kaiser that she could stand to gain a few pounds. I know that won’t happen since she is an actress/model.

  66. CanadianGirlie says:

I am surprised that not one other person commented on the second to last photo (from what I can see). It’s super creepy how she is staring right into the camera.

  67. Kathrin says:

Forget the beer… I was at the game as well and they only had alcohol-free beer 🙁

  68. Mara says:

She is to thin ,not a good example for young girls .

  69. Rose says:

I hate it when women say they ‘forget to eat’ there’s no forgetting there, I think it’s usually tied to anxiety and ‘busyness’ they’ll know they should but they might be too stressed or don’t have the appitite, either way there’s no forgetting, like you say they just do something else and think ‘skipped a meal without noticing, bonus’.
My body won’t ever let me forget about my meals

  70. GreyPhantom says:

The Roman army ate one meal a day, in the evening. The weight of the equipment they ran into battle would stagger any man today. Greatest army ever + one simple meal of grains, meat on occasion. If you are healthy, your appetite will not rule you.
Appetite is simply a matter of set habit. And none of us know true hunger and/or starvation.

  71. GreyPhantom says:

Well they may, or may not have been the greatest army. That is debatable.

  72. JennJennM says:

Why is she thrusting her torso out in the first photo? Is she trying to look bigger?

  73. Bex says:

I forget to eat, happens all the time. I’m ADHD (inattentive) and when I get focused I just can’t be bothered with anything else.

It’ll be 4pm and my husband will ask me if I’ve eaten and I’ll think “surely I have… Wait, nope.”

However, for me this doesn’t translate into being thin, because once I finally realize that I’m starving, I make up for it. Unhealthy, I know, and I have to really work at it to keep things more balanced. I actually used to set alarms for myself as eating reminders (and totally still should… Note to self).

Just because it doesn’t happen to you doesn’t make it not legit.

  74. KGG says:

Forgetting to eat when you’re having a really busy day is not pretentious. Can someone please get this bimbo a dictionary?
