James Marsden in a Da Man fashion spread: sorta hot or totally douchey?

James Marsden

James Marsden covers the September issue of Da Man magazine, and I believe that he’s promoting his current role on “30 Rock,” in which he plays Tina Fey’s aimless boyfriend, as well as his future role in a film called Bachelorette. I’ve always sensed an inner douche inside of James, and his recent actions — knocking up a Brazilian model mere months after splitting from his wife, who may or may not have divorced him because he starred in Hop, as well as his drunken shenanigans involving a 4:30 AM Papaya King serenade — have confirmed as much. Now in this interview, James sort of disses his experiences acting in kiddie movies like Enchanted and Hop, but he sure didn’t have any problems accepting the paychecks for those roles, right? Here are some excerpts:

James Marsden

Working with Tina Fey on “30 Rock”: “In my opinion, ’30 Rock’ is a prime example of a show that is designed around the writing. The dialogue is incredibly well-crafted so it does not need to be tinkered with. That said, the show allows me plenty of creative latitude. They are always open to whatever extra contributions you might make to the dialogue or specific ideas. But I know my ideas better be funny or it won’t make the edit. The scenes between Tina and I are usually very playful and it is great to be on set with her. Comedy is so tough but when you work with the greats it just makes you better.”

Will he ever sing on Broadway? “Singing was always something I just did for fun. I would say that I’m more of a mimic with a good ear and a decent voice than a trained singer. I’ve been lucky to be able to showcase my singing abilities in film and would definitely pursue a musical if the right one came along.”

Does he like enjoy acting with non-existent presences (Hop & Enchanted)? “As an actor it’s always better to have something or someone you can see and hear rather than having to imagine. Doing scenes opposite tennis balls on tripods or little pieces of green tape doesn’t really satisfy the artist in me. And it makes you feel a bit crazy, talking to nothing. But it’s a skill set that we have to have these days as more and more films incorporate digital elements.”

On his style: “I think I can be a stylish person when I choose to be, but I usually don’t make that choice. Although, even with my basic style, I try not to look like a bum. Good jeans, good shoes, good watch. As a guy, that’s all you really need to concentrate on.”

He does triathalons & works out: “I usually run or bike to stay in shape. I don’t eat junk but I don’t have a strict diet either. I drink mostly water, go for a run 3-4 times a week, and eat moderately healthy. That’s pretty much it.”

[From Da Man]

As you can see, this is a less than riveting interview, and the photoshoot isn’t much better. I kind of prefer James with those loose curls he sported not too long ago. As for his words on how acting alongside non-existent CGI creatures not “really satisfy[ing] the artist in me,” well, no one ever put a gun to his head and made him sign up for those movies. The dude ought to just be grateful he’s still working at all. Sure, he’s cute, but cute is very replaceable in Hollywood.

Meh. I don’t get his appeal. Definitely douchey!

He reached his peak as Cyclops & it was mostly the costume…

  2. gee says:

He’s douchey, but he’s so hot. And yea, the curls are really much better than the crew cut.

  3. silken_floss says:

He looks better without the curls. Look manlier imo, but still a douche.

  4. Hautie says:

    Hot.

(And he was so funny in Sex Drive, as the jackass brother.)

But I am basically happy to see a grown man… dressed like a grown man. He looks great on the cover of DA MAN.

  5. keats says:

    Those cheekbones!

  6. Izzy says:

Good looking, but a total douche.

  7. ramona says:

A magazine called “Da Man”? Please envision me rolling my eyes in a very distinct, exaggerated manner. For your reference, I may also be making a tutting noise.

Hot but douche. He gushed about his then wife on Chelsea lately, a few days before the divorce (didn’t he know he was getting divorced ?) He was singin on the day of divorce (so happy, so excited ?) he claims to be versatile when he’s neither famous nor talented. LOL

  9. mebee says:

Man, why so much hate for this guy? Because he had sex with someone else AFTER breaking up with his wife? Because he answered a question honestly when asked what it’s like to act opposite an imaginary scene partner? I’m sure it actually ISN’T that fulfilling but why is that such a terrible offense? Come on! He seems nice and IMO very very sexy.

  10. Luvlife says:

Doesn’t satisfy the ‘ARTIST’ inside me ? LOL. I hope the paychecks satisfy him cuz he plays VERY SMALL ROLES in VERY SMALL MOVIES. In Bachelorette, everyone’s talking about Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher. Amongst men Adam Scott looked better and acted better than James

  11. Mourning the Death of Music says:

I think he’s more handsome with his hair a bit longer.

  12. normades says:

He was hot and likeable in the Notebook…that’s all I got.

  13. Dee says:

Honestly, I don’t find him to be douchey at all. No one knows what happened between him/his wife, so I don’t think people should judge. It’s not the first celebrity I know to knock up a girl and yet no one cares…like Ryan Phillippe, Tom Brady, Jude Law, etc.

To me, he’s a good actor when he is doing comedy and he’s a good singer. Also good looking, but not douchey. Many fans say he’s one of the nicest they’ve met. If he was douchey to fans, I’d understand, but he never has been…so until then, he’s no douche to me.

  14. Ann Emmess says:

I never knew much about him as a person, but I’ve always liked it when very hot guys can do the goofiest comedy possible — and for a while, he was the best of the best at that. I like him for that, and try not to learn to much else that would put me off.

  15. Littlelotus says:

Ryan Phillippe and Jude Law were slammed much Much more than James. They still have the reputation of being Lotharios. Just bcos Jude and Ryan did it doesn’t mean it’s justified. Everyone’s entitled to his own opinion.

  16. Irene says:

Hot but douche. Really versatile actor. Should be in better movies. Still having a baby with one night stand within a year of divorce err…well better luck for his career

  17. Shirley says:

I think he looks hot either way. More delicate with longer hair while more manly and mature with short hair. But if everyone starts having a baby with one night stands then our society will become a mess. But i still love him as an actor
