Nicole Kidman wears Anne Hathaway’s Oscars Valentino in Cannes: stunning?

Here are some photos of Nicole Kidman and Heidi Klum at last night’s Cannes Film festival premiere of Nebraska. I’ve been surprised by Nicole – she’s been surprisingly withholding during the film festival. I thought we were going to get multiple costume changes every day, but as it is, these are the first photos we’ve had of Nicole since the weekend. Maybe she didn’t bring enough gowns? Or maybe she just wanted to make every red carpet count? I don’t know.

Anyway, Nicole wore this Valentino Spring 2013 Couture gown. Does it look familiar? It should. It should look VERY familiar. First off, Amanda Seyfried wore a very similar looking Alexander McQueen gown to the Oscars this year. Secondly, this is the very same Valentino that Anne Hathaway was supposed to wear to the Oscars until she discovered that Amanda was going to wear the similar McQueen gown. And so Anne went with the nipply pink Prada gown which looked terrible on her. Do you wish Anne had worn this, her first choice, to the Oscars this year? I’m kind of happy she didn’t wear it, even though I hated the Prada. This dress would have washed her out so much. She would have looked like an old doily. But on Nicole? It’s pretty decent. Nicole – much like Cate Blanchett – can pull off some stuff that would make lesser fashionistas look like giant doilies.

And here’s Heidi Klum in Versace. Note that she almost flashed her beav. That’s been happening a lot during the Cannes Film Festival! Eva Longoria, Rosario Dawson and several other women have flashed their panties (or more) at Cannes. I blame the recent influx of dresses with slits up to the crotch. I also blame Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina “The Leg” Jolie and Duchess Kate for making beav-flashing and high slits the new “thing”. Also, I really don’t like Heidi’s dress in general.

Anything would’ve looked better than that Prada dress.

  2. gee says:

I love this dress. Anne mad the wrong choice.

  3. janie says:

I think Nichole looks gorgeous. Ann Hathaway couldn’t have done this dress justice.

    • RocketMerry says:

Agreed. Nicole’s face is looking better, too, I hope her face detoxes from the ‘rox even more.
Now, if she could only be convinced to stop those ridiculous lip injections… I actually always thought that there is a kind of raw sensuality in thin lips, I don’t get this latest obsession for huge pouts.

      • oivey says:

Funnily enough, I was just wondering if she’s done something with her face. Unless it’s just relaxing now and everything is moving back where it should be? She’s looking like her sister more and more.

      • duncecap says:

yeah, i was gonna say something similar. She’s looking more natural, her brows don’t look so scary. This is a welcome change.

    • Yeah, this dress looks goregeous on Nicola but it would have been boring on Anne.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Nicole looks stunning and I can see a slight wrinkle on her forehead which makes me love her even more! Heidi meet Nicole, this is how it is done!

      • haha says:

Are you serious. When you place Nicole next to Heidi, it sorely highlights Nicole’s total lack of warmth and sex appeal.

  4. Anna says:

First of all, Nicole looks amazing in this. The styling is perfect, too. No way would Annie (however much I love her (A LOT)) make this dress work nearly as good.

Secondly, am I the only one who thinks this dress and Seyfried’s McQueen are really not that similar? It was lavender, and the embroidery was totally different (silver, vs white piping here), and it had a distinct keyhole detail and different neck. I really dont get all the freak-out.

    • magpie says:

Nope, I always thought the 2 dresses had nothing in common. They might both be cream colored, but that’s about it.

    • m says:

The light coloring and high neckline are the only things they have in common. Annie overreacted.

    • well done says:

“Old Dolly”. You correctly described Kidman in two short words Kaiser.

  5. another nina says:

Heidi looks like a middle-aged p0nr star recently.

    • m says:

      She reeks of desperation.

    • Amory says:

I was thinking the same, and that bums me out because I thought she was classier than that. I think that no matter how nice your body is, folks expect a little refinement at a certain age. It doesn’t help that she is juxtaposed with Nicole. Say what you will about Nicole, she has always been a class act.

    • juststeph says:

I was thinking Two Face, but that works, too

    • VioletCrumble says:

Uh huh, Nina. She has become a TryHard of the First Order.

  6. j.eyre says:

It looks lovely on her. I like her hair as well.

    Are panties outlawed in Cannes?

    • Oh dear says:

Unfortunate hairstyle. Is Nicole auditioning for the role of Lord Helmet in Spaceballs 2?

      • j.eyre says:

Now, see – I was trying to be nice given my unjustified but deeply rooted hatred for Nic K but now that you say that, I cannot unsee it.

  7. neelyo says:

I want Nicole to work with Ang Lee!

  8. Holly says:

I almost think Anne with her current blonde hair would have possibly worked with this dress – though it seems like a very predictable AnnIE dress – but definitely not with her normal hair/make-up.

Ugh, Heidi Klum, she’s just become the absolute worst! And she has trotted out in gown after terribly, slut-tastic gown over the last year+. And she only gets away with it because of her Project Runway labor camp where she “collaborates” with these powerless designers… she clearly does not allow them to do what she always yells at them to do on the show: listen to what the client wants but don’t let their poor taste level win in the final design. I can’t wait until she’s back to modeling…blech.

  9. Esmom says:

Nicole’s dress is beautiful and I like where she tried to go with the hair (the earrings look cool) but her face is positively ghoulish. She looks like she’s using every ounce of strength she has to arrange a smile on her face.

  10. poppy says:

please, no more close up pics of NK! scary.
she looks pretty good in the distance shots.
the dress would make for a nice wedding gown but meh for much else. still, ita, leagues beyond the prada.
HK, all her white (maybe all) dresses read the same. very tired.

  11. blannie says:

I wish we could see Nicole’s hair from the back. I think her dress is lovely – she’s so statuesque she can pull off a lot.

I love Heidi but that dress is tacky and cheap looking – like most of Versace’s stuff. And her hair should have been long on the opposite side, balancing the lack of a sleeve and the slit.

  12. Lilo says:

I don’t particularly like Kidman, but that dress looks great. Anne could not have pulled it off at the Oscars and I am kinda glad she wore that other horrible nipple-y dress ^^

  13. Andrea says:

This dress is beautiful. Yes, I wish Anne had worn it. I think it would have been very Hepburn-esque with her short hair.

Heidi Klum is….I have no words except….why?

  14. DanaG says:

I think Nicole looks great and she has refound her love of fashion. The earrings are stunning and I love her hair like that. Anne would have looked way too washed out to wear this and no doubt would styled herself wrong. She did after all choose that awful nipply pink dress instead. Ugh.
What has happened to Heidi? Did Seal used to style her cause she has looked really awful lately.

  15. L says:

Love it. Styled perfectly, and for once the hair is a win. That pinned bob is great.

  16. Jess says:

    Nicole looks beautiful.

This would have been better than whatever that Prada thing was, but still not a great choice for Anne. Nicole’s tall and regal enough to pull off the high neck and all that skirt fabric, but it would have looked very different on Anne. I’m seeing ‘Disney princess meets grandma who’s mistaken her tablecloth for a dress’.

I’ve heard many reports of Nicole’s anxiousness about red carpets (the cameras flashing, the yeling etc.) over the years. Cannes is one of the craziest, and she’s had full-blown panic attacks there before. I think she’s gotten a lot better in the past few years, but I doubt she’d be up for walking the Cannes red carpet a few times a day just for kicks.

    • Leanne says:

Anne is very tall herself and slim, she could wear high neck dresses just as well as Nicole.

  17. Cleveland Girl says:

She looks great, but for her to say she doesn’t use botox is a BLATANT lie!

  18. Maya Memsaab says:

*Waits for Heidi to introduce “Contestant number 3!” at the Annual Dog Show*

  19. Birdie says:

Nicole’s lips look so much better! She’s gorgeous.

  20. Poppy says:

I wish she’d go full on red again – her Moulin Rouge hair was absolutely to die for!

But she does look gorgeous and statuesque in this – she definitely pulls of things that would swallow up lesser mortals!

    • Lemony says:

I agree, I was thinking the same thing looking at these pics. She looks amazing in the dress, the earrings are to die for, hairstyle is nice, but think how much more it would “pop” with her gorgeous red hair!
I don’t think AnnE could’ve pulled this off as well as Nicole did.
Heidi looks like a Vegas showgirl on her way to a Nair commercial.

  21. ladybert62 says:

Nicole looks great – reminds me of Grace Kelly.

Heidi Klum looks horrible and should just be banned from these things.

  22. Abby says:

Nicole looks beautiful in that dress. Heidi has an incredible body, but that dress looks cheap.

  23. Belle Epoch says:

Spoiler alert: opposite viewpoint. Put a wick on her head and NK could be a wax candle. She looks like one of those plastic brides you put on top of a wedding cake. Would love to see her wear something that isn’t 100% static and unmoving. Trade with Heidi LOL!

  24. Miss M says:

    Nicole = Flawless

  25. Lulu says:

I like the idea of Heidi’s dress, but not this particular execution. And next to Nicole, she looks like a tanorexic street walker.

  26. Ron says:

Nicole is perfect. Heidi looks like an extra from circa 1972 Poseidon Adventure. it’s a gown you can swim in….

  27. NEENAZEE says:

Heidi Klum doesn’t have any style or fashion sense… but we always give her the benefit of the doubt because she’s a model. She’s living proof that it’s possible to exist in a bubble of designers, stylists and clothes and not absorb a single useful thing.

  28. Jayna says:

I see smile lines, thinner face. Yay, Nicole looks like an attractive 45-year-old woman.

  29. Loren says:

Heidi Klum is so freakin tacky. NO style sense whatsoever.

  30. Mia says:

I think that Nicole looks like Casper the friendly ghost. With the super bleached blonde hair and pale skin she looks washed out anyway, but with this white dress she took it all the way to half-dead. For some reason I really like Heidi’s look, she looks healthy and womanly to me and the red nails are a nice touch.

  31. Peta says:

There’s speculation that the actual Valentino meant for Anne on Oscar night wasn’t this gown but the one right after it on the runway at the Spring 2013 show, Look 48:

    http://www.wmagazine.com/fashion/2013/01/valentino-haute-couture-runway-spring-2013-ss#slide=48

This gown is very similar to Seyfried’s silvery-lilac embroidered McQueen custom deal.

Was the lacy number, seen above on Kidman, ever actually confirmed as the gown Anne passed over for the pink Prada? Either way, I think Anne missed a fashion opportunity, both gowns are gorgeous.

  32. ichsi says:

This dress fits Nicole’s ice-queen persona really well. She looks gorgeous in it.

  33. VioletCrumble says:

Nicole thinks she’s channelling Grace Kelly, but….no. She has simply become matronly, as one does at a “certain age”, regardless of Botox and collagen polymers.
