Naomi Watts is already almost back to her pre-pregnancy weight

Celebrities just have better genes than the rest of us. It’s undeniable. Naomi Watts – already gorgeous and thus carrying some obviously great genes – has already lost the vast majority of her pregnancy weight, just a month after giving birth to son Samuel Kai Schreiber. Naomi looked absolutely glowing last night at the New York premiere of boyfriend Liev Schreiber’s film “Defiance.” Celebs just seem to be able to bounce back from pregnancy much quicker than the rest of us.

New moms, eat your hearts out. On Monday – only two days shy of a month after giving birth to her second child – Naomi Watts was close to having back her pre-baby figure, as evidenced at the Cinema Society and Nextbook.org-sponsored New York premiere of her partner Liev Schreiber’s World War II drama Defiance.

How did she manage to drop the baby weight so quickly? “I’m breast feeding,” Watts, 40, told PEOPLE about her routine with Samuel Kai Schreiber. “And he’s sucking it all out of me, it seems. And when the baby comes out, it’s a lot of weight right there.”

A couple since 2005, Watts, 40, and Schreiber, 41, also have another son, Alexander Pete Schreiber, born in July 2007.

“They’re very different,” Watts said of her two boys. “[Sammy]’s more fragile, in a way. But I don’t know, maybe I’ve forgotten how small they are. [Alexander] is only 18 months old.

“And I’ve also got this big baby right here,” she said, pointing to Schreiber at her side on the red carpet.

Not everyone is as lucky as Naomi and able to lose baby weight by breastfeeding. In April Salma Hayek told Oprah that she didn’t lose weight due to it, and had to work hard at diet and nutrition.

A lot of people make is sound like all you have to do is breastfeed and the weight will just fall off. I remember some episode of “Desperate Housewives” where a character said it was like doing an hour of cardio. Not that anyone should ever rely on that show for health advice. It was a nice idea, but it definitely seems to be untrue for most women. Naomi must be one of the very lucky few if that’s what’s responsible for most of her weight loss. She’s probably eating well too, and no matter what she looks absolutely stunning.

Coming from someone who eats like a cow and looks like a twig, I think it’s possible.

Women come in different shapes, sizes and genetic make ups.

My aunt had two boys, BIG babies and I mean, she’s TINY. She was tiny when she had them, and she blew up while pregnant, then, I shit you not, got back down to her prebaby weight in like a month or so. Pretty much, when they were born, they took the weight with them.

She was pretty slim pre-pregnancy – that comes into it as well.

Breastfeeding helps a lot but you have to really let your baby nurse on demand, not just once in a while. Women make a mistake of assuming they’ll give the baby bottle and maybe breastfeed twice a day and the weight will melt off. It happened to me and I know it works only if breast milk is the baby’s only source of nutrition.

she looks stunning! But I bet 10 bucks she is wearing some sort of slimming body shaper under that dress…ha!

I have to admit, it kind of bothers me when people get snarky about celebs losing the baby weight “so quickly” after giving birth. Because it is absolutely possible, through exercise and proper nutrition, to gain a healthy amount of weight when you’re pregnant and therefore *not* have 60 pounds to lose when the baby is born! It doesn’t have anything to do with starving yourself or having a “tummy tuck” on the c-section table. Naomi is a good example of someone who obviously didn’t view pregnancy as a license to eat like a horse. She probably gained a healthy 25 pounds, and lost 15 of that when the baby came out. Plus, she’s clearly someone who works out regularly, and she likely continued exercising throughout her pregnancy. All of those factors help when it comes to losing the weight after you have a kid.

WOW Granger, I’ll bet you and Naomi are like BFFs!!!!!! How else would you know so much about her?

  7. Alecto says:

    LOL Blanche

Anywho this was when I had my kid. I took it as a lic to eat like a horse. Gained 60 Lbs. Three weeks after he was born had lost 35 pounds baby, fluids and all. Was breastfeeding continuiously. Buuuttt…my boobs where so huge that I couldn’t take it anymore and stoped. Like freak show JJJ bra was too small. Lost another 10 pounds I contribute to lost breast tissue after I quite breast feeding. The rest was hell. So I guess what i’m trying to say is that it’s not genetics. It’s nature, it’s a personal trainer and a chef to help you with those last few pounds. Heck if I had the money to hire a cookie slapper I wouldn’t be over weight either.

Some people don’t even gain all that much weight … but i am truly impressed by her flat tummy (even if she uses spanx). She’s had two kids in 18 months and looks like THIS. Dang!

  9. DLR in Canada says:

She is probably wearing that girdle Brooke Burke designed or Spanx. Also She didn’t gain much weight during the pregnancy if you recall her legs, arms, and that she didn’t look pregnant from the back. It is the women that gain more than 40lbs during pregnancy that complain how long it takes to lose the pregnancy weight. well hello, of course it is going to take a long time just like if you gained 40lb without getting pregnant.

One day I hope to be back at my birth weight.

  11. Di says:

They don’t have better genes. They have better bank accounts to pay for their personal trainers.

  12. Granger says:

Wow, Blanche, I’m so glad you feel a need to get sarcastic with me because I stated my opinion! Obviously I don’t know Naomi Watts personallly, but anyone with half a brain can look at pics of her while she was pregnant and she that she was TINY everywhere except for her stomach. Therefore, it’s pretty easy to assume that she didn’t gain much weight, and therefore, it’s pretty easy to assume she didn’t have much to lose.

There are a lot of celebs who lose a ton of baby weight in a relatively short amount of time (like Kate Hudson), and THAT, I can see complaining about. But I just think it’s silly to whine about someone like Naomi Watts, who clearly just never had much weight to lose in the first place.
