Katie Holmes security detail is on alert for CO$: are they still tailing her?

Katie Holmes

These are photos of Katie Holmes on the set of her new indie film, Miss Meadows, which is shooting in her native Ohio. I’m sure that Katie is thrilled to be back at home during her off hours. Suri is with her mom on location, and I’ve included a photo of the two girls together at the bottom of this post. I’m thrilled to see Katie looking cute in some fairly decent outfits (aside from a semi-NSFW, cheek-flashing sheer petticoat). With hair and makeup intact, girlfriend always looks so good.

Now I’m not sure how well this movie will turn out because Katie is — let’s face it — a pretty boring actress 95% of the time. People have really lost interest in her after the big divorce story cooled. Of course, the media is still dying to set her up with almost anyone, including her recent Mania Days co-star, Luke Kirby. The latest bit of gossip involves Katie dancing up a storm last weekend at a Hamptons-based benefit with Jamie Foxx. Of coursetongues started wagging, but seriously, they are just friends. Also, Jamie is tight with Tom Cruise (there’s no accounting for taste, right?) because Tom helped Jamie’s early acting career. I don’t see Jamie going for his friend’s ex-wife… although if I were Katie, I’d probably grab a piece of that. Just saying.

Oddly enough though, the Scientologists may not have forgotten about Katie even if the tabloids have moved on. Security has been tight on Katie’s new film, and it seems like Katie is really worried that the cult is still watching her:

A list star Katie Holmes’s security guards are on the look out for Scientologists who may be watching her a year after her divorce from Tom Cruise, photographers have revealed.

Photographers on the set of Katie’s latest film Miss Meadows in Cleveland, Ohio, on Monday morning were approached by a plain-clothed guard, who then asked if they had been dispatched by the controversial church.

The guard allegedly said the actress’s security detail had been told to “keep our eyes open for anything suspicious and to report it,” according to one photographer.

Once reassured of the photographers’ credentials, Katie’s six-strong security team appeared to relax and the star chose to walk the short distance from base camp to movie set, abandoning her usual routine of being driven there in a heavily blacked out SUV.

Katie has been spotted with her seven-year-old daughter Suri on set and the photographer added: “When security knew we were only trying to take pictures it definitely seemed to make a difference to how she and Suri are moving around.

“Katie was previously being ushered straight into a vehicle and we hardly saw her, but now she seems less anxious.”

When asked if Katie’s security guards were keeping a vigilant eye out for Scientologist spies, her spokeswoman insisted “this isn’t true.”

Burly protection officers have imposed a virtual ring of steel around the film beauty for the last fortnight as she shoots her new movie with co-star James Badge Dale.

In the film, Katie plays a “well-mannered substitute teacher on a mission to rid her community of evil predators,” according to The Wrap. James Badge Dale plays a town sheriff who falls for her.

Last summer, website TMZ.com reported how several ‘mysterious’ men in cars had been spotted waiting outside Katie’s apartment and following her while out and about in New York amid her shock split from Tom Cruise.

A white Cadillac Escalade and black Mercedes SUV were seen outside her home, however Gary Soter, a lawyer for the Church, then insisted that the Scientology movement is “not following Katie or conducting surveillance on her in the wake of her divorce with Tom Cruise.”

Movie heavyweight Cruise, 51, has been a devout spokesman for the church since 1990, later enlisting his wife and daughter into the ranks.

[From Daily Mail]

Given that Katie was quite worried about Scientology watching and monitoring her in the wake of her divorce — the cult even posted creepy CO$ posters featuring Tom at her subway station, I have no problem believing that she will always need security to keep them from getting close. That’s a terrible way to live, but thank goodness she has the means to protect herself.

Meanwhile, another former CO$ member has come forth to talk about how she was once screened by Scientology for the position of Tom Cruise’s third wife. And this week’s issue of the Enquirer says that Tom is looking to buy himself a secluded island on the Far North coastal area of New Zealand. That way, his visits with Suri “will be far removed from the prying eyes of the public.” In other words, Tom still doesn’t want you to keep tabs on how long it’s been since he’s spent time with his own daughter.

  1. Why says:

Jamie Foxx? am i getting punked?

  2. Anna says:

Gosh she is so cute, and looks 10 years younger than her actual age. Also all the outfits are adorable, but WTF, shoes/ socks with shoes???

    • Kiddo says:

I’m getting the impression that this is a period piece. Maybe the 40’s or 50’s? There was an old car in one of the pap shots.

      • Jane says:

Huh…yeah! I thought it was whole, Manic Pixie Dream Girl/New Girl/who only wears vintage dresses and is “adorkable” angle.

      • Kiddo says:

Could be. I have no insider info, but the look is so consistent.

      • Anna says:

Whether it’s the olden days or the quirky days, do things below her ankles really have to be SO BAD?

      • Kiddo says:

@Anna. She can’t help it. Although I think the socks rolled down look better than the lacy ones which go straight up.

    • Erinn says:

It has to be a period film.

And I agree. She looks so much younger and happier, and overall healthier than she has in a while. I like how they dressed her character.

    • bob says:

In the pic with Suri they’re tap shoes, but otherwise it looks like the standard Hollywood costuming for ‘cutie pie’.

    • Applapoom says:

Totally, she looks like she is mid twenties. She is looking v cute.

    • Anna says:

      /duplicate/

  3. Mon says:

We looks stunning and, you know, alive… She looked like a shadow of herself when she was with Tom, guess she must have been feeling horrible and now she simply seems happy. You go girl!

    • Liv says:

She did a great job turning her daughter from a brattie nightmare into a normal child. Well done, Katie!

  4. Tara says:

Somehow I respect KH so much more than Leah Remini. I still feel Remini dropped CO$ because of some personal reason or another and she milked it hard. kH did it for her child.

    • emmie_a says:

I don’t see why either left earns them more or less of your respect. I admire both women for leaving. And actually it was probably waay harder for Leah to leave because her entire family was based in Scientology. That was her life and all she knew. Katie married into it and had only been with it a few years. Again, either way, I’m just glad both of them are out.

    • msw says:

That doesn’t make sense to me. Katie had everything to gain by leaving that mess. I’m really just happy for both of them. Involvement with COS is an abusive relationship that keeps stalking and haranguing you after you’re gone. They both knew enough was enough and got out–good for them.

    • Tara says:

I say this because I like the way Holmes went about ut. I can be glad Remini got out without buying her story and I don’t buy it. remini did hardcore recruiting for CO$ years after she supposedly questioned their leadership and that is documented. She was often rude to other celebrities who weren’t interested in her hard sell. Yes she was raised in it but her family still supports her. Its not like she had to leave them behind, only a few fake friends. She enjoyed her status and privilege within the organization until it personally no longer worked for her.
She was censured for the whole Shelley thing but never even went to the police until years later with People nagazine and public concensus backing her up. She was smart to leave but I don’t buy thus whole sudden realization story. holmes gives me the impression that she just wanted a better life for her daughter.

      • lovegossip says:

I see what you are saying @Tara, but I think even if she did do it for personal reasons, she still did it and deserves praise just as much as Katie. If you think of how long she was in it, and how far it is no wonder it took her a few years to totally “get it”. It was probably in the back of her mind for a long time and it finally clicked together. I am proud of them both. 🙂

      • Tara says:

        @gossip
You make a good point here. Either way both ladies can move forward in a positive direction.

  5. mytbean says:

I don’t blame her for being anxious about Co$. Years ago, when it was first becoming popular, I made the mistake of emailing them with questions and for years after they called and emailed attempting to woo me. They are, if anything, persistent!

    • Kiddo says:

That sounds horrible, block them, all around.

    • hazeldazel says:

A cousin lived with us in her early 20’s for awhile, and during that time one of her friends got her to go to a dianetics/CO$ meeting. EST? She never went again and wasn’t interested but for YEARS afterward we got 1 to 3 pieces of mail from CO$ every.single.day – we’re talking years after the cousin moved. My mom finally had enough and for a month put all of the CO$ mail in a paper grocery bag (which was pretty full by the end), we spent a couple hours writing “Not at this address, return to sender” and put them in the mail. No more CO$ spam.

So yeah, they are persistent as all get-out.

      • tessy says:

You should have taped them to a brick first. I’ve heard of people doing that when they get tired of that sort of mail. As long as it says return postage guaranteed on it of course.

  6. emmie_a says:

I’m surprised she needs SIX security guards?? Is that just for the movie or is that her daily life? Wow. Are there so many guards just to keep CO$ out of the way? Like is there a real threat that CO$ will kidnap her or Suri?? And beside just the hassle of having six guards in your daily life, imagine the cost and planning involved.

  7. Samtha says:

Co$ never goes away, sadly. I know someone they’ve been harassing for about a decade now, and this is an ex-member who was a peon. I can only imagine what it will be like for Holmes.

  8. Insomniac says:

I don’t blame her at all for being wary. Those people do NOT give up, and here she is with the daughter of one of CO$’s biggest stars. I don’t believe those cultists are going to give up on Suri quite so easily.

  9. UsedToBeLulu says:

Katie certainly makes some funny faces, doesn’t she? 😀

Pity she is going to have to watch her back for as long as the CO$ is a ‘thing’.

    • NerdMomma says:

I was laughing at these photos and the others on the link. She has a very expressive face, and she seems to have the sense of humor/lack of vanity to make for some great pics.

  10. MissMoody says:

How long has it been since TC has seen his daughter? I knew something had to give here re: Katie’s defection was so very public that members who have been forced to disconnect from their own friends and family would have reason to grumble if TC is seen gallivanting all over town shoving Suri in their faces. Hence why I believe that TC would want to buy an island so Scientologists can’t see all the special treatment he gets.

  11. *asterix* says:

Holmes is a high-profile escapee from the Co$, and the ex-wife of a high-ranking Co$ member. Of course, they are trailing her–they will for decades, until the government actually does something to reign in their North Korea-esque ways.

I’m glad she has security; I hope it gives her some peace of mind. And, TC’s buying an island so he can see Suri ‘far from the prying eyes of the public’, doesn’t just sound like a privacy play. It sounds like an obsessive, controlling man making a huge control play in the child custody aspect of his divorce. I’m assuming Kate is just supposed to be ok with shuttling the kids over to his private island, and leaving them there for visitation without any other civilization around them but TomCruiseland? That would be intimidating for any mother; all the more so for a post-Co$ wife.

  12. Vl says:

Glancing at this articles top picture my first impression was: “Oh I like this!”

Somewhat startled as I normally do not agree with Katie Holmes choices in fashion.

Only to find out it’s on a movie set ._.

Don’t know what to say about the romance rumours, doubt she’s anywhere near healed enough for another relationship but it’s always nice to see people happy, single or not.

  13. Apsutter says:

Of course they’re still watvhing her, that’s what they do. Just look at the stories from ex mbers who have been gone for decades but are still followed from time to time. It’s a rich creepy cult who will stalk anyone
