Us Weekly: Kerry Washington is pregnant, ‘she’s about four months along’

A lot of you have been calling this for months, and here’s the confirmation: Kerry Washington is pregnant! According to Us Weekly, she’s about four months along, which means what for her July wedding? Either she got pregnant on her honeymoon with her new husband Nnamdi Asomugha, or they had a super-quick shotgun wedding just as soon as they discovered her pregnancy. This does mean that she was pregnant (but not really showing, despite theories otherwise) at the Emmys. What I’m saying is that pregnancy or no pregnancy, there was NO reason for that Marchesa dress.

Kerry Washington, like her Scandal alter ego Olivia Pope, sure knows how to keep a secret. The 36-year-old actress, who married NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha in a super covert ceremony in June, has yet another surprise on the way — a baby! As the new issue of Us Weekly exclusively reveals, the Scandal star is pregnant with her first child.

“She’s about four months along,” a pal tells Us of Washington. (Thus far, the mom-to-be has kept any hint of a baby bump concealed under roomy dresses.)

This will be the first child for the Emmy-nominated beauty, who married San Francisco 49ers cornerback Asomugha on June 24 in Hailey, Idaho. According to reports, the couple first started dating in the summer of 2012; Washington was previously engaged to actor David Moscow.

Asked about her top-secret wedding in an interview with Glamour magazine in September, the Django Unchained actress said she had “learned through experience” that talking about her personal life just “doesn’t work” for her.

“I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it,” she explained. “But I couldn’t just turn around and say, ‘I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.’ So I just thought, ‘Okay, no more.'”

That said, Washington isn’t trying to dupe anyone. “I’m walking around in the world with my ring. And when people say congratulations, I say thank you,” she said. “But I’m going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold.”

For more on Kerry Washington’s pregnancy — including her morning sickness, her style, and how this might affect Scandal — pick up the new issue of Us Weekly.

[From Us Weekly]

It would be cool if they wrote her pregnancy into the show, right? I haven’t been watching Scandal, but I’m vaguely familiar with some of the storylines. Wouldn’t it be possible to make Olivia Pope pregnant with the president’s baby? That might take the story to a different place though. It’s far more likely that they’ll decide to hide Kerry’s pregnancy with great clothes, and maybe they’ll make her hold purses, laundry baskets and boxes in front on her bump throughout the rest of this season.

Anyway, congrats to Kerry and Nnamdi Asomugha! I feel like they’re going to be great parents.

“It would be cool if they wrote her pregnancy into the show, right? ”

God no, as if that horrible terrible show needed MORE ridiculous melodrama.

  2. Frida_K says:

She’s so pretty. I’ll bet the child will be lovely.

    🙂

    • Carlye says:

I agree! The baby will be so pretty, but maybe the baby could get his/her sense of style from someone other than Kerry. She really wears some weird clothes.

  3. GiGi says:

To be filed under “no shit sherlock” – I’m not usually a bump watcher, but I thought it was pretty obvious at the Emmy’s.

  4. QQ says:

Listen, anyone that saw her WADDLE out at The Daily Show Knew this… but she is adorable and not a harpy about it and it aas her choice as to when to disclose, so, good for her!

    • CG says:

LMAO yeah as soon as I saw her walk out onto the Daily Show set in that tent she was wearing, I said, “She’s pregnant!” :p

  5. blue marie says:

Congrats to them. I always wonder, do the stars “allow” their friends to make the statements for them or are they going all rouge?

  6. Tiffany27 says:

Congrats to her!! I love Kerry so much!! The baby will be beautiful.

  7. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Awww, congratulations to her and her husband! I do feel bad for her though–I said this to Esmom (on a previous post) that a lot of fans of the show are just going absolutely nuts and are STILL saying that she’s not married. I was watching a clip, and saw this comment that basically said this: Kerry Washington isn’t married, because we haven’t seen her with her husband on any red carpets. Seriously? I mean, I get it—Kerry and Tony are freaking HOT on Scandal–it would’ve been so cool if they had both been single when they met, and then they hooked up on the show. That would be like a fairytale ending–but he’s MARRIED. They are just friends. Nothing more. And it sucks that Kerry has to go out of her way and say that she was uncomfortable during the first sex scene that they had together (not in a ‘Tony was a creep’ but in a ‘I don’t want to talk about our chemistry because people are starting rumors that we’re having an affair’ type), because the crazy fans were spreading rumors that they were actually sleeping together. Boggles the mind.

  8. Rhea says:

    Congrats for the happy couple!

  9. bns says:

Yay! I love her! She’ll be a great mom.

  10. Marieeeee says:

Okay, judge me, but I think her dress in the first photo, the “NO excuse Marchesa” is gorgeous. It’s intricate and beautiful and she looks lovely. Loads better than anything we usually see from this designer!

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

That’s probably the only design that I’ve seen that I like from Marchesa–even though a lot of her gowns have the same type of aesthetic, she still turned them into ice skater fug. This is the best one.

    • Viv says:

agree. This actually could have been gorgeous on her if they had left off that white grosgrain ribbon bandaging around her torso.
I can’t believe I said something nice about Marchesa.

    • MollyB says:

I love most of the dress but the surgical tape boob-strap stuff is just nonsense. Way to ruin a lovely, detailed, ethereal dress.

    • Hubbahun says:

Me too, I love it! (I agree Marchesa are ususally ice-skater chic but this is gorgeous!)

  11. Sam H x says:

I knew it. She seems really happy and content with where her life is heading. Congrats to Kerry and her husband! xx

  12. M.A.F. says:

I doubt they would write it into the show. If they do, I would go with it being Jake’s baby. I’m over the President story arch.

    • Viv says:

Obvious story line would be that she would discover she is pregnant and not know whether it’s from Jake or Fitz. Only Kerry could pull this off without seeming slutty at all.
Jake would make a prettier baby, though!

      • Abby says:

Yeah that’s the direction I’d guess. Jake would have a hawt baby for sure, but he and olivia don’t have special music like she and Fitz have EVERY SINGLE TIME they have a scene together. So she can’t have a baby with him right? 😉

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

She needs to get pregnant on the show or something else that will allow Fitz to divorce Mellie and get w/Olivia–before the story gets too ridiculous. I love the show, but they need to move on, in the progression of Fitz and Olivia’s relationship. I guess this season will be about the war between Mellie and Fitz–maybe next season they’ll have to deal w/ the fallout. I’m loving Mellie this season though. Especially what she said about Lisa Kudrow’s character—“give a piece of trailer trash a pushup bra and a microphone and the flyovers will eat it up like fried twinkies”. MAGIC.

      • Janet says:

@Virgilia: Um… no. Olivia put her relationship with Fitz on ice at the end of last season because she knew it would stand in the way of him getting re-elected. I can’t begin to imagine how her getting pregnant by Fitz would help his chances for re-election, especially when Operation Remington is threatening to blow the whole thing apart anyway if the truth gets out. Unless they work in a big babydaddy speculation, which would throw a monkey wrench into the whole show, it would be a lot simpler to shoot Washington from the waist up for the rest of the season. I’m still wondering what this quickie wedding and quickie pregnancy is all about. Unless…. ??

  13. mel2 says:

Well I am happy for her and besides I wouldnt announce my pregnancy until I made ith thru the first trimester. She’s doing it the right way as always.

  14. ashley says:

I’m so happy for her! She’ll be a great mom,i’ll be watching snl just for her.

  15. Anna says:

Olivia Pope hold a laundry basket?? Never.

  16. Rose says:

Yes!! I called it ages ago! I’m about as far along as her so when I started noticing her wearing long baggy clothes like me I just knew it! 🙂 Yay for her.

  17. Elodie says:

“It would be cool if they wrote her pregnancy into the show, right?”

OMG no, it’d be awful, the Olivia-Fitz storyline is already getting tiresome, Jake isn’t much of a strong contender to Fitz, he’s too overzealous to win Olivia over so he’s behaving like a child at best… Anyway if the making a storyline of her being pregnant with either of them, it’d be such a mess…. LE urgh!

    • ncmagnolia says:

This show has gone so far off the rails. The only interesting characters at this point are Cyrus and Melly. There is only one reason this show is still on the air, any other ensemble show with this convoluted a plot would have been cancelled by now.

      • Janet says:

I love the show. Actually, the only people I’ve heard complaining about the story arc this season are the ones who are unable to follow it.

      • ncmagnolia says:

Just because the plot is unnecessarily convoluted and requires suspended reality for character continuity, doesn’t mean someone is “unable to follow it”. It just means that it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, hun.

      • Janet says:

This season, as every season, there are two story arcs. The first is the case-of-the-week. The second is the one that goes through the entire season (the first season it was who killed Amanda Tanner, the second season it was Defiance and this season it is Operation Remington). Then there is the continuing Fitz/Olivia/Jake triangle which is tangential to the plot but which some viewers have confused as being the main plot. The show is a political drama, not a soap opera, and should not be misconstrued as the latter.

      • ncmagnolia says:

Janet- appreciate the lengthy explanation, but unnecessary. I’ve watched every episode since season one. I understand what a story arc is, thanks. I can also differentiate between a soap opera and a political drama. I just don’t ENJOY THE SHOW anymore. Thanks for your concern.

  18. RHONYC says:

i figured as much by how she looked on Kimmel recently. i love being right, Lol!
😀 congratz to the parents to be!

  19. Teeny says:

I never noticed it before, but now I can totally see it. I’m happy for them and they seem like a down to earth couple that will hopefully raise a level headed child.

  20. Miss M says:

I knew it! Called a while ago, yayyyy! Congrats, Kerry!

  21. Abby says:

ha! Olivia Pope probably dry cleans all her clothes–no laundry baskets!

I think it would be really interesting if her character got pregnant on the show. Oh the possibilities…

    • Janet says:

I think it would totally eff up the show. There is enough drama going on now without throwing in a who’s-the-babydaddy subplot. They will probably shoot her from the waist up like they did with Mariska Hargitay while she was pregnant on Law & Order SVU.

  22. themummy says:

That first dress pictured is amazing. Is that Marchesa??? If so, a rare victory. It’s amazing. Also amazing–how absolutely freaking perfectly gorgeous Kerry Washington is. Wow. She often doesn’t photograph well, though. I saw her Django Unchained before I ever saw her in a photo and I thought she was so beautiful it almost hurt my heart (yeah, seriously), but when I then saw her photos I didn’t find remotely attractive. Usually that is the case for me with her photos, but these are amazing (especially the second one). Can you imagine looking in the mirror every day and seeing that? I think I’d become a total narcissist and line my home with mirrors….

  23. mercy says:

Beautiful woman. I DO want to see her baby. 😉

On a side note, nice that there are no “shotgun wedding” comments.

  24. Jess says:

Awe, it will be a cutie for sure, she’s really gorgeous!

  25. peetalimbs says:

Heh, I just can’t get into her. I don’t know why. And although, I do think she’s pretty, none of it is natural. I can understand getting a nose job but judging by pics from just a few years ago, she’s got a lot of things done – I see cheekbone implants, nose job, upper lip reduction, eyelid surgery, skin bleaching etc. It’s all a bit too much.

Beauty that generally comes by way of plastic surgeon isn’t real beauty in my opinion.

  26. Megan says:

Congrats to her! She is so beautiful.

On a side note, that show is filled with so many stupid story lines the last thing it needs is baby drama. Seriously. I love Kerry but Scandal is the worst show I’ve seen in a whole.

  27. Janet says:

If this story is true, I don’t see her having a friend announcing the news for her. It seems to me she’d be much more likely to announce it herself.

  28. Emmeline says:

Wasn’t a real scandal about her and her costars now we have a quicky wedding and a quicky baby on the way .

  29. Janet says:

There was a lot of speculation, never proven, that she was getting it on with her co-star Tony Goldwyn. They have some insane chemistry onscreen. Who knows? That wedding did seem kind of odd to me.

  30. III says:

I don’t know about her and TG having a relationship/kid (that seems a bit over the top), but I still strongly believe they were messing around. It’s not crazy to think/believe. After all, this is Hollywood.

    • Janet says:

This is what completely throws me off: Kerry Washington is an intelligent woman. She knows what a pregnancy at this stage in the season will do to the script (unless they shoot her from the waist up for the rest of the season like they did with Mariska Hargitay when she was pregnant during Law & Order SVU). So why in the world wouldn’t she wait to get pregnant until three or four months before they shoot the last episode of the season when it wouldn’t make any difference? Unless there was a lot more behind that quickie marriage than anybody is saying.

    • III says:

@Janet Good questions. I don’t watch Scandal so I don’t know all the details about the show. I also presume that she like many actresses, was on birth control. How many “accidents” happen with BC? It’s pretty damn effective. Now if it was planned, like you said why didn’t she wait?
I’m with you concerning your last sentence.

    • JS says:

to III I think her and Tony had something too.

    • Janet says:

I just think it is kind of odd that there was not a single photo of her and her husband together before they got married. Even more odd is that there haven’t been any photos of them together since they got married. Something doesn’t compute.

    • III says:

There are too many things that make me think they were/are together. His Freudian slip about them being lovers now together, at this past Summer press tour, raised my eyebrows.

His M magazine comments are also inappropriate, for two people who are suppose to be married.

    • Janet says:

@III: All of which has me wondering whose baby this is. And I don’t mean Fitz’s or Jake’s.

  31. Ryan says:

SHOTGUN. I really hope they got married because they were so insanely in love with each other after finding out she was pregnant and not because they felt an obligation. I hate that. In my experience, the relationship usually turns out badly, and there are kids stuck in the middle. Nothing wrong with raising a child together without a marriage license.

  32. Seán says:

    She’s gorgeous! That is all.

  33. hethre says:

Well, let’s see here–if she is four months pregnant as of today, which is computed by the first day of her last menstrual cycle, then her last period would have been around June 30th (a week after they got their marriage license). So, actually conception would have take place anywhere from 10-25 days after that, depending on when she ovulated. Even if she was almost five months pregnant and her LMP was around May 30th, she wouldn’t have found out that she was pregnant (most likely) until the very end of June, as her period would not have been late until June 30th. My guess is that they wanted to start trying to conceive right away and she went off birth control the month before the wedding and they got lucky the first try!

    Congrats to them!

    • Lemon says:

I’m 4 months pregnant and I was pretty certain I was pregnant in the July 20s, with a positive test shortly after. Definitely less than 30 days.
