Miranda Kerr vs. Gisele Bundchen: who has the better singing voice?

gisele hm

Within a few hours yesterday, two supermodels released two songs for two different reasons. Gisele Bundchen’s cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” for H&M was released after a big teaser campaign. And then around the same time, Miranda Kerr’s duet with Australian actor Bobby Fox was released – they covered the song “You’re the Boss,” a song which has been done by everybody from Elvis to Jimmy Ricks. I think Miranda just did the duet for the hell of it, probably just because she was asked. So, let’s do a side-by-side comparison.

Here’s Miranda Kerr and Bobby Fox’s “You’re the Boss”:

Miranda’s voice is a lot lighter and more girlish than I was expecting. Should she give up her modeling career to move into music? No. She shouldn’t. But I don’t think she flat-out embarrassed herself either. It’s a light, flirty song and she sounds twee, but that’s the point.

Now, for Gisele doing Debbie Harry (this is the H&M commercial):

OH MY GOD. Well, there it is, folks. Gisele is only MOSTLY perfect, not completely perfect. She doesn’t have a great singing voice and all of the autotune in the world can’t fix it. I will say a few nice things: one, Gisele only did this because she was getting paid (by H&M), so it’s not like she’s claiming to have an amazing voice. Two, this cover benefits UNICEF when you download it from iTunes (I guess).

Neither should quit their day job.

It’s times like these that I’m grateful I can’t watch videos with my POS internet.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah. Not too bad, but no new careers here. They both sing better than I do, but so did my cat yesterday when I accidentally stepped on his paw.

  2. minime says:

Not an expert, but it seems to me that there’s extreme auto-tuning in Miranda’s voice…meh it’s OK, I like his voice
(couldn’t listen to Gisele…not available in my country, but probably not missing much)

    2 things:

    1. I don’t believe even for a second that that is Miranda’s voice. If she had such a good voice she wouldn’t shut up about it. Considering she wants to be the most beautiful, the skinniest, with the best body and the best smile phothsopping her own pics trying to fool us all into being the thinniest in a group of skeleton models. if she had that voice she wouldn’t have kept it as a secret til now.
I call bullshit on this one.

    2. Gisele looks like she can’t even keep up with the lipsync..let alone singing for real. Autotune all the way.

  4. maynot says:

Ok, it benefits UNICEF – in Gisele’s case -, but is someone really paying to download this s!!t ?

  5. Tapioca says:

Gisele’s is better than the singing toddler, but the video really emphasizes her total lack of curves and seems a weird choice for a swimwear ad?!

  6. MrsBPitt says:

I think Gisele looks odd, singing and swaying in that tiny bikini…maybe if she had been singing a song about the beach, or summer or something…and MK sounds like a six year old…to both I just say “NO NO NO NO”…put your pretty clothes on and zip it!!!

  7. poppy says:

i refuse to feed either troll so i’ll take your word for it kaiser, neither can sing, as i expected.

  8. Maya Memsaab says:

Both utterly generic and manufactured but even then, they are both better than Avril Lavigne’s new single, ‘Hello Kitty’.

Lavigne manages to create an entirely new genre I will call ‘Culturally Appropriative Caterwauling’. When all the McDonalds outlets on the planet are revealed to be the portals to hell, this will be the song playing on loop.

What is H&M selling here? I’m confused…bathing suits? Although I don’t mind Giselle simply because I appreciate her and Tom Brady together I cannot help but eye-roll on compaigns like this…sometimes I don’t get advertisers….

  10. Shijel says:

Just because you can keep a tune doesn’t mean you can sing. You want a good fashion model powerhouse, look no further than Milla Jovovich – a runway model, an actress, and has a very lovely singing voice.

  11. Size Does Matter says:

I refuse to listen. These women cannot be allowed to have good singing voices on top of everything else.

  12. Heather says:

Ha ha ha….you guys are killing me…the singing toddler! Miranda does sound like a baby – pretty annoying, Gis sounds okay but let me tell ya, I tried to do Heart of Glass at karaoke one time and that is seriously hard to sing because it is in falsetto. So she did a pretty good job, although it sounds like they did a lot of work on it! Singing aside, I like that black bathing suit!

  13. Eileen says:

I actually think neither one was terrible! Miranda sounded really good to me,but I can’t sing worth a hoot do what do I know anyway?

  14. Original Lee says:

I know Miranda gets a lot of flack on this site, but I 100% have a girl crush on her.

  15. raindrop says:

Miranda, by far. But she *does* have a good speaking voice – with some careful recording and editing, and a bit of Autotune, I totally believe this is her singing voice. Never underestimate the power of a good audio engineer.

  16. lilly says:

I always try not to be unnecessary mean to people, but I’ve heard both ladies singing and choosing which of them sings better is like choosing which of my cats poop is prettier.

  17. Hissyfit says:

I think both songs were fun to listen to. It’s not as awful as Kim K’s zombie song or anything. So yeah, it was kinda cute.

I can’t help but look at how straight Giselle’s body is! That is sexy?

I thought she was AMAZING on this cover if The Kinks.

However, Heart of Glass sounded like crushed glass bleeding in my ear drums.

  19. Jay says:

unrelated observation: why does H&M feel the need to photoshop out gisele’s armpits?? SERIOUSLY?! It’s not enough they change skin tone/body shape, but they also have to remove basic anatomical features of the human body too?
