My mother is obsessed with America’s Next Top Model. I watched the first few seasons, but my intense dislike of Tyra Banks made me stop watching. Still, I recognize that if the power of Ty-Ty can take down someone like my mom, it’s pretty intense stuff.
ANTM is currently auditioning girls for the thirteenth cycle. They held the auditions in a New York hotel on Saturday, and a friggin’ riot broke out. It is unknown what caused the riot (a sketchy weave?), but six people were injured and three were arrested. Seriously? For ANTM? What do the wannabe models have to riot about? CNN has more info:
Three people were arrested Saturday after chaos broke out at an “America’s Next Top Model” audition at a New York hotel, police said.
Six people were injured, and two of them sought treatment at a hospital, authorities said.
Police said they didn’t know what provoked the bedlam, which resulted in three people being charged with disorderly conduct and inciting a riot in connection to the incident at the Park Central New York hotel in Manhattan.
The audition was shut down after the incident, authorities said.
Calls to Park Central management were not immediately returned on Saturday.
The “Top Model” competition, hosted and produced by supermodel Tyra Banks and aired by the CW network, is in its 12th cycle.

The audition was shut down after the riot. That’s got to suck for all of those girls who were willing to drop out of college and rearrange their lives all to be told off by Tyra in the second episode.
I would love to know what started the riot. Is it bad that my first thoughts went to the kind of silly, asinine catfights that are catnip to ANTM viewers? That would be depressing, the thought of a New York riot breaking out over a Cup o’ Soup or extensions.
Note by Celebitchy: The “riot” may have been over a suspected car bomb when a smoking car pulled up near the crowd, causing panic. Here’s a video of the stampede that resulted. It looks incredibly dangerous and hopefully no one was seriously injured. The Telegraph has more on this story.

I would hate to be anywhere near Tyra. She looks like a timebomb just waiting to lash at someone.
Too much of a Diva
I’m not surprised the crowd overreacted. Ever since 9/11, as soon as something looks out of place in NYC, terrorism is suspected. When a steam pipe exploded a year or two ago near my mom’s office causing a huge cloud of team to project several hundred feet into the air (some of you may remember, it was on the news), everybody first thought it was a bomb. When my mom called the house before we knew the details of the accident, she told us rumors were going around there was an explosion at Grand Central which is where she commutes into every day. It can be very scary and people just jump to conclusions before waiting around to find out what is really going on.

Anyway, the show has taken a massive downturn in recent years, its a big joke-Tyra’s too into themes, like last season she dressed up as like Snow White’s magic mirror or something to announce the girls makeovers? Yeah thats real high fashion
Her talk show sucks too, it has to be all about her, all the time. I’m sick of seeing her berate people on that show.

I watched this clip and started laughing, laughing, laughing…if that’s wrong then I don’t want to be right. It was just too funny. Don’t they realize enough of them will bomb anyway as to make a deliberate bombing redundant?

Sure looks like a scared heard of sheep to me.
This should appear on her show and also the taping of the reality show as well. But she’ll make it about her in some fashion.

I was there, and here’s what happened…. The gridlock started when a car rolled down the street, we heard a loud noise as the car began to smoke.Foolish people thought the car would blow up, and began pushing. they all yelled “that car’s gonna blow”. People went crazy! I honestly feared for my life. The fight was a seperate incident that happened moments after. I know now why it’s a crime to yell fire in a crowd.People really thought the car would blow up, and started pushing oneanother.
If they’d all just stood there and it HAD exploded people would be going on about how stupid they were, so.. meh

If you dilute the human condition/experience amongst so many people, those individuals eventually behave little better than cattle.
We arent over populated we are just crazy to have this top modle crap. That Tara Banks looks uhly in the photo and to tell ya the truth I think that is what she really is on the insdie..ugly.
It’s tragic to think that the amount of people who called in sick that day and wasted precious time to stand around waiting for someone like Tyra Banks to validate their physical attributes! People, there are more important things to do with your life! This should teach you that!
