Princess Charlene & Albert baptize 6-month-old Gabrielle & Jacques: adorable?

I’m enjoying the fact that Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco are really giving us some great photo-ops with their babies. Charlene gave birth to twins Gabriella and Jacques on December 10th, 2014. Soon after the birth, Charlene and Albert did a nice at-home photoshoot with Hello Magazine and Paris Match, and then in January, they did the big baby presentation to the people of Monaco.

Now Gabriella and Jacques are all of six months old and to celebrate their six months’ birthday, they got baptized in a big, splashy event in Monaco. Much of the royal family came out to celebrate. Even Princess Caroline looked happy. Jacques and Gabriella seem to be developing and eating very well, although it’s worth noting that these are two of the baldest babies I’ve ever seen in my life. Maybe they’re just super blonde and they only look bald in photos? No, I’m really looking… these babies are pretty bald. I’m pretty sure Albert is holding Jacques and Charlene is holding Gabriella. Jacques is The One. So grumpy.

Charlene wore ivory Dior for the event, with matching gloves and a pillbox hat. She actually looked radiant. I hope she’s happy. She seems to be, quite genuinely. I think motherhood suits her and now that she’s got her babies, her marriage drama seems to have taken a backseat. Oh, and the babies wore Dior gowns too!

SO CUTE. Love the tiny bald, big-eyed bundles of joy and Charlene looks very pretty.

  2. Shambles says:

Gabriella is giving me FACE. Yes, honey. Baby Tongue. Grumpy eyebrows. I’m living for all of it.

  3. Birdie says:

I think Charlene is carrying Jacques and Albert Gabriella.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Yes, I read elsewhere that Albert is holding Gabriella and Charlene is holding Jacques, and I do really think that is correct when I study the babies’ faces. If perchance that isn’t so and Jacques is the baby in the arms of Albert, then the boy is far prettier than the girl. Which can happen (and did in my husband’s family – he is WAY prettier than his sister.) But I do think Charlene is holding Jacques and Albert is holding Gabriella.

    • Olenna says:

Agree, Albert’s holding the little girl. IMO, she resembles him more, and her brother favors Charlene. But, honestly, I think, Albert and Charlene are starting to resemble each other, LOL!

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

Omg Olenna, I hope Charlene doesn’t read your post – she’ll fall back into depression when she hears that you think she’s starting to resemble him!

      • Olenna says:

@Lah, I would feel so bad if that happened! Ha! I’ve never seen Charlene look as happy as she does here. I take it back!

      • holly hobby says:

If the girl favors Albert then there’s a chance she will inherit the Kelly genes. Albert as the only kid that favored Grace’s side.

        Beautiful babies!

  4. CharlotteS says:

I think Albert is holding Gabriella, their initials are embroidered on the gowns.

  5. Loopy says:

She looks genuinely happy for once, not searching for an escape route.

    • Jenns says:

Seriously. I thought the same thing when I saw her. It’s nice to see her looking so happy.

    • MrsBPitt says:

Of course she is happy! She has fulfilled her royal duty, and, thus, does not have to partake of shagging his royal douchebag, ever again! I know I’d be doing cartwheels!!!!!!!

    • Samtha says:

This is the first time I’ve ever seen her look happy.

    • GingerCrunch says:

2 babies that age must have her dopamine levels off the charts! So fun.

    • Kiki04 says:

Agreed! One of the best things is how happy she looks.

    • FLORC says:

She looks so happy. I’m in the crowd that never thought this would happen. Wonderful it did.

  6. Judyk says:

Babies are adorable, and she is just lovely.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Yes, it’s great to see Charlene looking so blissful! She’d looked sad most of the time for so long.

  7. zimmer says:

Everything was lovely. Charlene looks like she has purpose now that she has two little ones to focus on.

Only complaint, I feel the babies head’s should have been covered for sun protection (they are so fair) and just because imo their attire would have been more complete.

  8. EEV says:

    Aren’t they only five months?

  9. The Original Mia says:

    5 months old.

They are cute. Jacques was trying to entertain Gabriella at the ceremony, but she was having none of it. Charlene looked great and seems so happy with the twins. I’m happy for her and Albert.

  10. INeedANap says:

I wonder how his illegitimate children feel about all this pomp for the babies (though they are very cute roly-poly babies).

    • bammer says:

Exactly what I was thinking. All of his million other kids were kept in the dark like he was ashamed. Gross.

    • notasugarhere says:

I suspect they were raised as wealthy private citizens and appreciated not having all of us yaking about them constantly. They are not public figures. The relationship with Costa appears strained which probably affects his relationship with his son. He and Charlene attended a Princess Grace Foundation event (last year?) with his elder daughter.

    • m says:

Well he has a good relationship with hisdaughter who was apparently hoping to attend but she is finishing her last week of college.

    • MelissaManifesto says:

There is no need for resentment. Illegitimate children don’t inherit the throne, it is sad, but that is the reality. I’m sure his other children will be well taken care of. In my opinion, they have the best of both worlds, the money and the privacy.

  11. dr mantis toboggan says:

She’s looking more botoxy than radiant, in my opinion.
I wonder if Jacques and Gabriella’s big brother and sister were at the ceremony?

  12. Bea says:

    Ugh those babies are CUTE.

  13. Mrs Darcy says:

Albert is holding Gabriella and Charlene is holding Jacques..because the babies’ initials are monogrammed on their baby dresses…G for the princess and J for the baby in Charlene’s hands.
The babies are adorable and Albert and Charlene seem to look like those couples who end up resembling each other’s features :\

    • Olenna says:

Agree! I mentioned the same observation on Albert and Charlene upthread, but I just saw your comment. Glad I’m not the only one seeing it!

      • Mrs Darcy says:

haha! I’m glad too that I’m not the only one. And I found it easier to observe the adult faces..I can’t for the life of me be able to tell which was the baby girl and which the baby boy from just 4-5 stationary pictures. Thank goodness for monogrammed baby dresses 😀

  14. AmyL says:

It seems to me that the other royal families (British, Swedish, Dutch, etc.) are not social with the royals from Monaco. Is this a misperception on my part? If not, is there a reason? (Forgive me if this is an obvious question)

    Anyone have any insight?

    • Krishan says:

More likely they were not invited. Royal Catholic baptisms are usually small affairs with only family and godparents invited. There will be photos and sometimes videos, but not much fanfare. Same with Belgium, Spain, and Luxembourg royal families.

But I think they’re all pretty close. They’ve all attended events in the past and Charles is close to Albert as are the Spanish royals. There aren’t many opportunities for them to see each other since many have busy schedules and not much royal weddings going on.

      • notasugarhere says:

The traditional raft of royals attended their wedding. Albert’s role is different, as I think he has more authority in government than many European monarchs.

      • COSquared says:

With all that you’re saying you can scratch the Windsors. Those folks are notoriously distant to the other fams. It’s quite obvious in a) No European royal godchildren(aside from HM,The Princess Royal w/ Bill Middy having Alexios(?) of Greece). Even w/ the aforementioned royals(aside from Alexios who was born in 98) they’re from decades past. b) Cold but polite exchanges during events they DO attend. In a sense the Windsors are outsiders in this circle.

    • Dirty Martini says:

It is my understanding that the Grinaldis are to European royalty what the Kardasians are to A-List Hollywood. One simply doesn’t deign……

      • MelissaManifesto says:

Nope. I’ve lived in Monaco, they are more scandalous and live more freely than most, but they don’t compare to the Kardashians.

  15. Jessica says:

Charlene was holding Jacques and Albert was holding Gabriella.

  16. India says:

Beautiful babies that look like their beautiful mother. Their parents are showing so much love and adoration to them.

  17. Sandra says:

Did no one think to iron the Dior christening gowns?

    • The Original Mia says:

Even if they did iron them, the babies have been held all day. They are going to wrinkle.

    • Joy says:

I was just wondering if Monaco has steamers for that very reason.

  18. betsyh says:

Here is additional information about the godparents:

“Hereditary Prince Jacques Godparents are Diane Veronica Therese de Polignac de Barros Nigra (grand daughter of Therese de Polignac, niece of Pierre de Polignac, cousin of Rainier III) and Christopher Lee Vine Jr. (son of Prince Albert’s cousin), both cousins of Prince Albert II. Princess Gabriella has two South Africans as Godparents: Nerine Pienaar (married to the former South African rugby player Francoi Pienaar) and Gareth Wittstock, his uncle and older brother of Princess Charlene.”

  19. AtlLady says:

Jacques looks like he wants a nap and may doze off right now. Such darling babies and both parents look very happy with their young ones.

  20. Bread and Circuses says:

She looks happy! Princess Charlene actually looks happy! That’s so awesome — her brink-of-sobbing face always leaves me feeling anxious for her.

For the record, my mom jokes that we kids were all bald until we were three — not because we had no hair, but because it was invisible. We all had this spiderweb-fine, platinum blonde hair that none of us managed to keep; we’re all brunettes now.

  21. Dawn says:

Oh they finally look like a happy couple and their children are going to be cuties. Their grandmother after all was once thought to be the most beautiful woman in the world. I love Grace Kelly in Rear Window.

  22. Sister Carrie says:

I was a bald baby for about 1.5 years but I was rewarded with a massive bunch of thick hair later on. So unless these two start with their dad’s receded hairline, I think they will be just fine.

  23. Jyne says:

    Charlene outfit was just perfection

  24. taxi says:

In my family, all babies start out with lots of hair, which is gone by the time they’re 3 months old.
Bald state lasts until about age 2, when full mops grow in.

  25. aurelia says:

If only kate middleton would use charlene’s stylist.

  26. Jyne says:

Charlene and albert are doing it the right way, involving family, citizens with their twins, why soo much isolation by kate and wiliam, and their kids??
