Johnny Depp, 45, was photographed on the set of his film The Rum Diaries in San Juan, Puerto Rico yesterday. He looked happy and healthy and has gained a little weight. He definitely looks hotter to me with a little meat on his bones and I’m looking forward to seeing this movie.
Depp plays “a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean,” according to IMDB.
Depp is busy lately, and has gangster film Public Enemies coming out in July, Heath Ledger’s last movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus out later this year or sometime next year, and has finished shooting Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, out in 2010. He is also working on an animated film and is rumored to be considering a role in Sin City 3.
I want to add how much I love Puerto Rico. I’ve been on vacation there a few times and the weather is beautiful and the people are so friendly and nice. Depp must fit right in there.

I’m always amazed at what a chameleon he is. Do you see Jack Sparrow here? Maybe a trace in his grin. He has an amazing way of morphing into each character and leaving previous characters behind.

It’s a movie about another Hunter S. Thompson novel.
Love it that Johnny commits to his late friend Hunter (he commited suicide in 2005).
Benicio del Toro, who also was in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas AND comes from Puerto Rico, also was about to play a role in Rum Diaries. But it didn’t work out…
I think it will be a great movie! And Johnny looks very healthy and happy.

I love these comments about extra weight. At the most he’s gained maybe 10lbs. He was VERY thin playing Jack Sparrow. I think it makes him look more like he did in 21 Jump Street. (although at 1st glance he DID remind me of clay aiken) Either way I LOVE LOVE LOVE him and he’s still awesome!

He has gained more then 10 lbs Prissa. He looks better then i could ever dream of looking though and he put the weight on for roles. He plays “Babyface” Dillinger in his new movie Public Enemies and he was even bigger in real life. But notice the “babyface” in the title, He had a chubby face. This is one of the things i love most about Johnny, he can contort his body to fit his roles (him and Christian Bale are the best in the biz at doing that) and trust me he could lose this weight just as easy as he put it on.
